iTunes rented movies won't play on my PC.  "This movie required QuickTime which this version of iTunes doesn't include."  So I downloaded QT 7 but movies still won't play.  HELP  Very frustrating.

Ok nw the rented film is on the iPad which won't play and when I looked at the Mac I was greeted with an error message saying that the film could nt be transferred because the file had already been transferred somewhere else!  Thing is I can see it on theioad and the Mac still!
Obviously the film Kees checking where it as you can't watch it in two places at the same time. I can understand that but I knw it's not anywhere else.
The only thing I can think of is if when time machine backs it up it thinks it's being watched!
    Any ideas anyone?

I have a similar issue.  My Dell Latitude is running Windows Pro 8.1 and iTunes 11.1.3.8.  It looks like it's playing, but it isn't.
Things seemed to work fine before the 8.1 update.  I fear I will have to rollback to 8.0 because the sound no longer works on the computer unless you use the headphone jack.
Podcasts and music behave the same way, they appear to be playing, but the timer is not progressing for them either.
This may be the combination of 8.1 and 11.1.3.8

    Hi Quigglejake,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your rented movie.
The following information should help you with this:
How to report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBookstore purchase
Find the email receipt for your purchase.
Click Report a Problem under the app that is having the issue.
When prompted, enter the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the item, then click Report a Problem.
Click Report a Problem next to the item you are having an issue with.
From the Choose Problem dropdown menu, choose the appropriate issue.
Follow the onscreen instructions and—if prompted—type a description of the problem into the text field.
Click Submit to have your issue reviewed.
    Hope this helps ....

  • ITunes grey screen and no sound TV Show

I bought a Mad Men season pass on iTunes last night and let it download... this morning, I try to play it and all I get is a gray screen and no sound. I have the latest version of Quicktime and iTunes.

I had this very problem: itunes TV gray screen no sound. It seem to be an authorization glitch. After much support back and forth resolved it following these instrtuctions.
    1. Quit iTunes and any other open applications until only Finder is open.
2.Choose Go > Go to Folder.
3.Type /Users/Shared/SC Info and click Go.
    4. If Finder is not already set to column view, set it by choosing View > as Columns.
    5. Select the SC Info folder and move it to the Trash by choosing File > Move to Trash.
6.Restart the computer and open iTunes.
7.Authorize your computer to play your purchases. Note: If you have multiple accounts you will need to authorize your computer for each account. For more information on how to authorize your computer, see this article.

  • HT1657 Rented movies won't play on IOS 7.0.4!

I have been trying to rent movies on my newly updated iPads 4 Gen and it won't download fully and won't play back.  I have tried everything from doing a force start up to restarting my router and nothing helps.  I have to check my memory and I have about 7 G  and still I cannot download and play back.  The sole reason why I bought this iPad was for HD movies.  I don't have a computer to open iTunes up and transfer from there.  Before these updates I was able to rent and buy movies without a problem!

If it has the cloud symbol then that indicates that it's in the cloud and not on your phone, but is available for redownloading - if you go into Settings > iTunes & App Store and turn Videos 'off' (under the 'Show All' heading) it should stop it showing in the Videos app. What you can redownload will still show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app.

  • ITunes rented movie won't play on Apple TV

    Hi
I have rented two movies on iTunes on my Mac of which neither will play on my Apple TV. I can see the movies on Apple TV but when I navigate to watch I get an error message saying that the movie is being watched on another Apple TV or computer and I should stop this first to watch it on the Apple TV.
I know that it's not being played anywhere else. I tried using the iPad to play the film located on the Mac and I get an error saying Cannot Open!
I have only been able to play one movie direct on the Mac as I deleted the other by mistake but the one payed fine and has started the rental period timing.
I tried transferring the entire film to the iPad with syncing and it still won't play.
The only place it will play s on the Mac.
The two rentals are Orange Film To Go films if that makes a difference.
    Please help.

  • Rented movies won't play

I rented two movies, neither will play - I downloaded and installed the latest iTunes, I run a macBook pro System 10.5.8, I am registered, all is good.
I click on the rental movie to play, it asks me if I want to play and I click Play Then the screen turns grey - I can see the little top bar showing that the movie is playing but there is no sound and the screen is grey
I live in Canada. Is this the reason? And if so, why take my money?

Had a similar experience. Rented "The End of Time, Pt 1". Download failed part way through with an error code when I plugged in a ethernet cable to speed up the download. Resume appeared to work. Initially screen was gray, but time indicator advanced. Tried pause, fast forward, etc. Eventually managed to get it to play. A couple of times playback spontaneously froze. Had to start over a few times. Fast forward seemed to help.
It's stunning that iTunes is so buggy yet makes Apple such a fortune. It's an inspiration to mediocre programmers everywhere!

  • Certain movies won't play in itunes

Need help, got about 25 digital copies movie in my itunes and 3 of them won't play. The screen with the play button appear but the movie doesn't start. I tried to delete it from the library and re-download it with the cloud but still no response.

Here is what a -50 error means:
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

  • Rented movie won't play "not compatible with Apple TV"

Using my apple tv, i rented a movie from the iTMS. When I try to play it I get an error message saying it can't be played because it's incompatible with Apple TV.
Troubleshooting: I unplugged the ATV for more than 5 minutes and replugged it. I checked to see whether purchased music still plays (it does) and whether purchased tv shows still play (they do). I can also go to iTMS and view previews of movies.
So everything seems to be working, except this movie. (I have two other rented movies but they don't expire for a couple weeks; this one expires in 22 hours so it's sort of imperative i view it today or lose it, and i can't do the one final test -- see if the other rented movies play ok -- because then the 24-hour ticker on those would start, and i'd have only enough time to watch one of them, and not the one that's already set to expire in 24 hrs.
ironically, the only support thread i could find on this particular error message for apple TV-acquired media, involves this same movie, "An American Rhapsody". That question was posted more than a year ago and never was resolved. (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1492298)
It's a little frustrating that the only apple support i could find for this issue is email support, promising me an answer within 24 hrs. So it's unlikely an answer will come in time. Maybe they'll help arrange a credit to my account after the fact. But (and i'm a big fan generally of apple and apple support) it seems like there ought to be customer service to cover the situation where someone buys (in this case, rents) something and can't get the promised product.
I've spent 90 minutes trying to solve this and the friend who was going to watch it with me just left, but i'm still curious to see if anyone can propose a fix. thanks!

you should use the "report a problem" link that is on the email invoice you get.
this will take you to the itunes section to report an issue with a particular purchase.
or go to "view my account" in itunes and then choose "purchase history"
if it didn't work you'll most likely get a refund.

  • Rented movies do not play in iTunes.

Its just a black screen and the time counter wont move. The rented movies play fine on my iPad, also purchased movies/tv-shows plays fine. This all happened after installing Lion. Someone with similar experiences? Or with any sollutions?

You did try tapping on one of them in that list in the iPod app! This has happened to me and I was able to start the movie from there. You could try restarting the iPad, go into the iPod app and try again.
Now I'm stumped unless it is a corrupt download. You did download right onto the iPad - correct? If you downloaded in iTunes, there is a Move tab or function that you have to select to transfer the movies to the iPad when you sync. They just don't sync over without selecting move.

  • Rented movie won't play on apple tv

How do I get a refund for a rented movie that will not play properly?

I just experienced this for the first time (after many successful rentals) last night. I rented a movie on my Apple TV 3 and pressed Play when I was prompted. For the first time ever, the movie did not start properly. It only displayed a still image while the audio played normally. I was able to scan through chapters, but still the image was frozen and only the audio played. After searching through forums, I was forced to take matters into my own hands.
I had noticed the movie was rented at 1080p resolution. I knew that my HDTV was only capable of 720p. So I put 2-and-2 together and thought that maybe it was a resolution issue; that somehow, iTunes did not recognize my resolution and downsample properly so that I was able to view it. Sure enough, I went to my Apple TV and went to:
Settings / iTunes Store / Video Resolution
Then I selected 720p. It was currently selected at 1080p. Sure enough, I reloaded the rental movie and all worked as usual!
