Rented movies, HD or standard definition for iPad viewing?

Does the difference matter when viewed on the iPad?
Thanks,
Ken

Yes, there is a difference. But your question was does that difference matter. In my opinion, the difference on a small screen is not enough to justify the additional expense and download time. I suspect that this may be a matter of personal preference. You might want to try an HD movie and see if it wows you enough to be worth it.
Best of luck.

Do you really mean the latest, as in 11.0.1?  That was supposed to include a fix for Airplay.

  • HT1657 How many rented movies can be stored on an IPad?

How many rented movies can be stored on an IPad? I've rented 3 but can only sync 2.

I have an iPad 2 64GB - the three movies would total approx 7.8GB's. I made sure I have plenty of free space 26.8GB's. After the iPad sync's and backs up - I move the movie from rented to "iPad" then click on apply. The third movie never moves over, just back to rented.
    Is there a limit?

  • Transcription definition for ipad built-in dictionary in iBooks

Could you please give me information where i can find Pronunciation Symbols (transcription definition) for ipad built-in dictionary in iBooks?

Take a look at the ios4 upgrade for the iPad coming in November, keyboard and dictionary.
    http://www.apple.com/ipad/software-update/
I don't know if this means a separate dictionary for the iPad. If so, I dough third party apps will have access to the dictionary. Third party app developers would probably need to build a dictionary function into their app. Who knows...? We won't untill ios4 comes out.
You can give Apple feedback for the ipad about you idea:

  • HT5731 Help! Can I watch a rented movie from my computer on my iPad?

I rented a movie on iTunes to watch on my Computer. I did not have a chance to watch it, but am getting ready to travel. I have just 18 days to watch it. Can I transfer it over to my iPad to watch it before it lapses? It doesn't show in iTunes on my iPad.

    Hello Joyman77,
Indeed, the movie can be transferred to your iPad.
Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.

Can get the movie to move over to my ipad.  Never watched it and time is running out.

If you downloaded it directly on your phone then you can't. From the page that you posted from :

  • Why are so many movies available in high def for ipad, but not for imac?

ok. another question, why are so many itunes rentals and movies unavailable in high def for rent or buy on an imac?   i have a 27 inch imac.   and an ipad, and it's funny, it will let me rent a high def video on the ipad, but not on the imac.   it's wierd, i don't get it, because there are movies i would rent or buy on my imac, that i'm not going to buy now because of this.

It depends on the contract w/the distribution company. Lionsgate for example has licensed their movies for resale on iTunes, not rental. Paramount allows some movies to be sold(not sure which ones and why) and others for rental, but the standard rental agreement between Apple and the movie studios is that rents will not be available for 30 days after the DVD is released.
Edit: Well, looking at the AppleTV site it looks like Lionsgate allows rentals also now, but there may be terms in the contract which say which movies can be bought/rented.

  • Renting Movie Expired Before Watching it on iPad

I Rented two movies on my iPad and both are "expired" before watching them.  How can I get a refund?

    Hey BL4571,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like you want a refund for a purchase. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
Report an problem with an item you bought from the iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBooks Store
FAQs about renting movies from the iTunes Store
You have 30 days to start watching a movie after you rent it. When you start watching the movie, you have 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) to finish it.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Rented movie but can´t oppened on ipad mini

    Hello there,
I dowloaded a movie on my ipad mini, i rented it on SD format. The film seems to be successfully downloaded. After a day when i decided to watch it, went to videos, appears as rented movie, but when i click on play, after a few seconds, the movie dissapered; doesnt oppened at all!!!  I´ve tried with the wifi connected and also doesnt work.
I made a sync with the itunes recenlty updated. On itunes apperas the rented movie on the ipad. I believed the movie didn´t dowloaded properly. I know i cannot transfer to my Desktop. I´ve tried to download again but system displays if I want to rented again, thus paying twice.
So my question is: Does anybody knows how to request a refund in order to rented threw my itunes desktop? or any suggestions are more than welcome.
    Regards,
    Ricardo.
PS. I rented it in Costa Rica Central America. Went to website and seems it is allowed to rented in my region.

iPod 5th generation + Mac.  view on iPAD???  Which device did you order it through please?

  • I syched my rented movie from my pc to my iPad,but the movie is not showing on my ipad

How do I get a rented movie to play on my iPad after it has been syched from pc?

I had the same problem.... you have to go to the originally installed app called Videos...it looks like a film clapboard.  Your movies will be there.

  • Itunes rented movie "video format not supported" by ipad?

I just rented 3 movies in the iTunes Store.  They all downloaded to iTunes successfully.  They are all SD, not HD.  When I try to move them to the iPad and sync, I get a message saying that the movies cannot be played on this iPad because the video format is not supported.
I have rented movies before and played them successfully.  What do I do now?
iPad is about 6 months old, 32 GB Wi-Fi, running iOS 6.1.3.

I'm not sure why they don't play ...
But I wonder why you wouldn't simply update your iPad to iOS 7.0.4 and see if that solves the issue.

  • HT1657 If I rent move and download it to my iPad 3 can I watch it later in a tunnel were there is no connection to the Internet?

Can I watch a rented movie without an Internet connection?

As long as the film has been fully downloaded then you shouldn't need to be online in order to then watch it

  • My Mac will not "move" my rented movie to Apple TV so I can view it on my TV.  It always moves it back to my Mac.

My Mac will not "move" my rented movie to my 1st generation Apple TV so I can view it on my TV.  It always moves it back to my Mac when I click to "apply" the changes.  This has never happened before.  Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure all those files that were on that drive are still on that drive. Any time you format a drive, especially when you change the format, everything is erased from the drive.
to answer your question, No there isn't a way to remove the Mac fomatting and retain files on the drive. you would need to copy all of them to some other drive first then reformat the drive.
