Rented movies won't sync

Hi, I have a 80gb ipod that has always transfered purchased movies & podcasts well. I just bought 2 movie rentals in which downloaded well into my library in the Rented Movies folder, however, I can't get the to sync to the ipod. When I connect the ipod to my PC (vista), they do not show up in the list of movies to be sync'ed. If I try drag & drop from "manually manage music & videos" I get a message that says "was not copied to the ipod "My ipod" because it cannot play this ipod". I think I have searched most FAQ's and read topics and have not found the solution? PLEASE HELP, my rental will expire soon & have not watched the rented movies yet!
Thanks, Floyd

What sort of iPod do you have? Rental Movies will only play on the iPod Classic (not the 5th Generation iPod), the iPod Touch, the iPod Nano with video and the iPhone:

  • Rented movie won't sync to iPad

I rented a movie from iTunes using my laptop and then decided to watch it on my iPad. It won't sync. I followed the instructions to move it, but I keep getting a message saying that it can't be moved because it has already been transferred to another device or conmputer. I thought it was supposed to move from the laptop to the iPad and that I could do this as many times as I want during the rental period as long as I haven't watched it yet. Tried using Express help but that was worthless.

In the USA you can move rental movies. This is from Apples FAQ on rentals:
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch (4th generation), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your first generation Apple TV can't be updated to version 6, I'm not sure what you have done that makes you think it has.

  • Rented Movie won't sync. "cant read or write to disk"

I rented a movie, tried to movie it to my touch, and about 1/3 of the way thru, it says it cannot copy to the iPod, the disk could not be read from or written to" What. The. Heck. Why would it do that? anyone?

  • HT1498 My rented movie won't play, even though it shows "rented".  What gives?

My rented movie won't play, even though it shows "rented".  What gives?

I have a similar issue.  My Dell Latitude is running Windows Pro 8.1 and iTunes 11.1.3.8.  It looks like it's playing, but it isn't.
Things seemed to work fine before the 8.1 update.  I fear I will have to rollback to 8.0 because the sound no longer works on the computer unless you use the headphone jack.
Podcasts and music behave the same way, they appear to be playing, but the timer is not progressing for them either.
This may be the combination of 8.1 and 11.1.3.8

  • After upgrade to ios 5 my movie won't sync

  • Movies won't sync to iPhone

I have an iPhone 4S running the latest software. I am using the latest iTunes on Mac OS X Lion. I like to have iTunes pull old movies off of my phone and add new ones. However, lately my movies won't sync. iTunes goes through the full sync process with no errors, but when I open Videos on the iPhone, nothing has changed. Sometimes the new movies will appear but be all grayed out with no way to watch them. Clicking on the iPhone icon in iTunes shows that the movies are on the phone, but if I go into the Usage section on the phone, they won't be there. No matter how many times I sync, the movies never update. I have tried restarting the phone before a sync, but that doesn't work either. It doesn't matter if the sync is wifi or USB. I have also tried unclicking the sync movies box in iTunes to have it start from scratch, but the grayed out movies stay there. The only thing that works is to turn off iTunes Match on the phone, turn off syncing all media in iTunes, sync, turn off syncing all media in iTunes again, sync again, reselect the media for syncing in iTunes again, sync one more time, and then turn iTunes Match back on. And I'm not even sure that works every time.

How did a bug solve the problem?
I experience the same problem with covers - the problem is ages old and nothing gets done to fix or at least explain it - :-(
iOS8.1 does not fix this awful awful bug :-(

    Hi Quigglejake,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your rented movie.
The following information should help you with this:

  • ITunes rented movies won't play on my PC.  "This movie required QuickTime which this version of iTunes doesn't include.  So I downloaded QT but movies still won't play.  HELP

iTunes rented movies won't play on my PC.  "This movie required QuickTime which this version of iTunes doesn't include."  So I downloaded QT 7 but movies still won't play.  HELP  Very frustrating.

Ok nw the rented film is on the iPad which won't play and when I looked at the Mac I was greeted with an error message saying that the film could nt be transferred because the file had already been transferred somewhere else!  Thing is I can see it on theioad and the Mac still!
Obviously the film Kees checking where it as you can't watch it in two places at the same time. I can understand that but I knw it's not anywhere else.
The only thing I can think of is if when time machine backs it up it thinks it's being watched!
    Any ideas anyone?

  • Movie won't sync to ipod nano because it "cannot be played on this ipod"

I got a movie via digital copy and it is HD, I kept it in the cloud since I didn't have time to download it, later I uncheked the box that says download in HD when available and downloaded the movie, but it is still in HD and won't sync because it is not playble on this device, said device is a 3rd gen (2008) iPod nano. Is there a way to downscale or resize the movie to fit on my ipod?

iTunes: May be unable to transfer videos to iPhone, iPad, or iPod - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1497 - incompatible format for devices.
I don't know if this applies to digital downloads too:
iTunes: Purchasing and viewing HD videos - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3209 - "When you purchase an HD video on a supported device or computer, only HD video will be downloaded. To download the SD version, you need to download the video again from your Purchased page."  Other details about which formats are downloaded and when.  To download as SD uncheck "Download HD when available"

  • HT1657 Rented movies won't play on IOS 7.0.4!

I have been trying to rent movies on my newly updated iPads 4 Gen and it won't download fully and won't play back.  I have tried everything from doing a force start up to restarting my router and nothing helps.  I have to check my memory and I have about 7 G  and still I cannot download and play back.  The sole reason why I bought this iPad was for HD movies.  I don't have a computer to open iTunes up and transfer from there.  Before these updates I was able to rent and buy movies without a problem!

If it has the cloud symbol then that indicates that it's in the cloud and not on your phone, but is available for redownloading - if you go into Settings > iTunes & App Store and turn Videos 'off' (under the 'Show All' heading) it should stop it showing in the Videos app. What you can redownload will still show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app.
