Rented or Purchased, Movies & TV Shows Keep Disappearing

I'm using an AppleTV 3 and in the last couple of weeks whenever I purchased a movie or TV show, after it has been watched, it disappears.  It's not on my AppleTV, my iMac, my iPads or iPhone, it's gone like I never made the purchase.  The only place the purchased shows up is in my iTunes Store account under recent purchases.  The same thing happens with rentals.  Once I've watched the show it's gone, not in 24 hours but immediately, without a trace.  Also, if I stop (not pause) the rental it will disappear.  Apple has been good enough to credit me for these purchases or rentals but this is ridiculous.  When I asked iTunes for support they said it was an AppleTV problem, not there's.  I don't think so because it affects all my devices.  Nevertheless, I figured I'd post here for advice.
Thanks
BTW, I'm using the latest iMac with Mavericks, the latest update on my ATV, 4S w/iOS 7, and an iPad 3 with the same.

yes.
check this post by Zevoneer:
If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from (as you are advised to do) then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
*You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download*. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service
If you have an iPod that still has the purchases on it the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer

  • What will happen to my purchased movies/TV shows if iTunes removed them from the store?

I'm honestly sorry to bother you. I tried to google this and cloudn't find a good answer.
What will happen to my purchased movies/TV shows (that I haven't downloaded on my devices) if iTunes removed them from the store? Will I still be able to watch/download them from iCloud?
I'm trying to buy all my favourite movies and TV shows without downloading them, to keep them in iCloud that I can access from all my devices whenever I want, but I'm scared that iTunes will remove them from my iCloud if something happens to the contract between them and the production company. Should I worry about that?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate it.
    Best,
    Faisal

Thank you for taking the time to explain this.
But the thing is, I don't want to download ANYTHING because I don't have storage. That's why I want to buy them and watch them through iCloud (on my Mac iTunes) without downloading.
I know that it's safer to download them. But does "safer" mean that iTunes might not let me access my purchases through iCloud?

  • Downloading purchased movie stopped downloading and disappeared, why?

Downloading purchased movie stopped downloading and disappeared, why?

Look for a folder called "Downloads" in your iTunes Music folder. If there is such a folder, look for files that would be the partial download and delete those, so that the download starts over from the beginning. Then try again using the "Check for Purchases" command under the iTunes Store menu.
If that doesn't work and the problem persists, contact the iTunes Store customer support department through the form at the bottom of their web page and explain the problem to them.
    Good luck.

Welcome to the Apple Community Tarskforce.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and help.  Ended up logging out of my apple ID account.  Of note, when I did I did a quick test and checked out both the movies and tv show options, and it all worked perfectly.  I then logged back in, and now all my purchased and rentals are available which makes sense.  I guess with the update there was some weird bit of trons that required one to log out then back in.  Probably doing a rest in between may not hurt for some.  Thanks again for all the assistance. Cheers.
It looks like there is a Apple doc for this problem here -> Apple TV: Unable to access Movies, TV Shows, or other iTunes features after updating

Hey Steve, I took it to the icore south africa and they tried that but it didn't work, then they did a complete reset but unfortunately they cannot restore the machine since it keeps restarting every 2 minutes while doing the restore.
They said to me that the machine needs to be replace but they cannot replace it as it was not bought in South Africa. Is there some way or place I can contact in the US that I can ship the item back to and get it fixed or replaced ?

  • Rented, then purchased, movie on iPad

I rented a movie and my iPad and then later purchased it, but it is still showing in "Rental" rather than "Movies".  How do I move it?

    Hello there, sp67.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up the steps on how to delete a movie rental:
How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5772
    Movie rentals
    iPad
If you delete a movie rental, you'll have to pay to rent it again—unless, of course, you rented the movie on your Mac or PC using iTunes and synced it over to your iPad. To delete a movie rental:
    Tap the Videos app.
    Tap Edit.
Tap the "x" on the movie rental you want to delete.
Once you've deleted it you can download the purchase by following this article:
    Download past purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Movies, TV shows, or music videos
Tap Settings > Videos and make sure Show All Videos is on.
    Tap the Videos app.
Tap Movies, Music Videos, or TV Shows at the bottom of the page.
Find the item that you want to download.
    Tap the Download icon.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • HT202157 Can't see rented or purchased movies after the AppleTV update. Help?Hi

    Hi
We updated our AppleTV a couple of days ago and we tried to rent a movie last night but failed. I am able to go into the Movies section, find the movie I want, even see the preview in perfect condition. The problem arises when I want to rent. I get a window that asks me to: rent and see now, rent and see later or cancel. I select "Rent and See Now", it moves to a "Loading" page and then pops back to the movie page without having rented it. I tried it with several movies and it didn't work. I also tried it with my purchased movies and I get the same exact error when I try to play them.
All other features on my AppleTV seem to work fine, YouTube, iTunes Festival, for example. I have tried disconnecting my iTunes account and connecting it again but that didn't work. Tried rebooting the AppleTV as well but that didn't help.
How can I get it back to working?

I have been having the exact same problem, and I am outside of the United States but my iTunes account is from the United States.
I have never had problems streaming purchased movies, shows, or music before.
Now I can see all that has been purchased and even select them.  However, when a movie or show is played, it shows the spinning wheel for a couple seconds and reverts back to the movie/show details screen.  When music is attempted to be played, a "content not found" error occurs when a song is selected.
Interestingly, movie previews can still be watched just fine.
Also, if I restore or reset the Apple TV I can immediately watch one move or show video, but the second time this is attempted it reverts back to the original error.
This means that I have to spend 4 minutes resetting the Apple TV just to watch something.
Apple support was not able to resolve this.
Netflix and other apps work just fine.
This also just happened a couple days ago after I updatet my Apple TV

  • How do you change the media type for purchased movies & TV shows?

I have purchased many movies from iTunes, and would like to organize them a bit better. For example...I would like to classify all of the standup comedy videos I've purchased as TV Shows, with the season title of "Standup" so I can go to one place in iTunes (under TV shows) to find all of my standup comedy.
    I do the following:
    - Get Info on the movie.
    - Navigate to the Options Tab.
    - The Media Kind drop down (where you would change the media kind from Movie to TV Show) is grayed out.
This is true for all media I've purchased from iTunes.
If I have ripped a DVD myself, I can freely edit the media type.
    Things I have tried:
    - Checked the permissions for my iTunes folder (all levels). It is set to read/write.
    - I have tried fiddling with the command line "chmod" command for a movie file. I believe I changed the permissions to "700" which (as near as I can tell) should change the permissions so that I can edit things.
    Neither of these things worked.
Any other things I should try? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.
    -Carl

  • Germany: Can't redownload purchased movies/TV shows from the cloud

iTunes in the cloud for movies and TV shows launched yesterday in Germany. Everything purchased appears online in the purchased items section of the iTunes Store, but when I want to redownload somehting I get the error "This item is temporarily unavailable."(Mac OS) or "The item you tried to buy is no longer available."(iOS). This happens with all previously purchased movies and TV shows. I checked that they are really available in the iTunes Store, rebooted, deleted the iTunes Store cache, logged out and back in in the iTunes Store and this issue still exists for me (and other people I talked to). Has someboy an idea how to solve this problem?

After over 24 hours this issue seems now to have been resolved But not exactly the smooth feature rollout you would expect from Apple...

  • Purchased movie not showing up

Hello, recently I've purchased the Matrix Trilogy. It's on my purchase history yet I cannot see it in my list of purchased movies nor does anything show up when I press check for available download. Anybody got any ideas?

    I am in the US.
I should also mention that all my previous TV show, music and Movie purchases are available, except this one.

  • Movies tv shows netflix disappearing

My kids were watching Netflix on our Apple TV yesterday and the Movies, TV Shows and Netflix kept disapperaing from the main menu.  We had to unplugg the Apple TV to get the menus back.  My son said that play back would freeze then dump him on the main menu with onlu 3 menu choices.  Anyone have this problem?  Any suggestions on how to fix/keep it from happing again?  It happened about 4 times yesterday.

I had that happen yesterday but it was only a moment before the regular menu was restored. I suspect it has something to do with network speed suddenly dropping or similar but it hasn't happened enough for me to establish a pattern. I'm hoping when iOS 5 is released and the Apple TV firmware is updated that this will be resolved.
Incidentally I've only noticed this when using Netflix. When doing home sharing from iTunes I've never seen this behavior.

  • HT1657 Are rented or purchased movies available in 3D?

I've been meaning to rent or purchase the movie "the hobbit". I've heard that it's out and available on 3-D. I was wondering if this is possible on Apple TV. All it it says on iTunes is that you can get it on 1080p resolution. It says nothing about 3-D capability.

The iTunes Store does not offer 3D movies.
    Regards.

If you are located anywhere but the US, you will not be able to purchase movie/TV content from the store. This content is only available in the US at this time.
