Renting movie: unable to download, status "waiting".

When trying to rent a movie on iPad, the download does not start, it has status "waiting", and nothing happens.

I got the exact same problem.

  • Rented movies on IPad remain in "waiting" state

    I rented the movie (actually 2)directly on IPad and was hoping to watch it immediately but the only thing I can see is that the movies are in the download tab and are having status "waiting".  Did this happen to anyone else? How did you solve it?
    Thanks in advance..

    Yes - I have seen this happen with movies &  apps. It happened to me once. But other users have reported this as well. I have no clue if this will work, but try it - restart the iPad and see if the download will resume.
    Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

    Hi Dangler19,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If you are unable to watch your rented movie, you can report this to the iTunes Store by following this article:

  • HT201272 rented movie won't download - download starts but stops immediately

    I rented a movie several weeks ago on our desktop computer.  I haven't watched it yet and want to watch it on my laptop (same Apple id and account).  My account in iTunes says I have an item to download and gives me a button to click to download, but when I do that the loading "ribbon" starts the working/scrolling thing briefly, but then pops back to the account window with the download prompt, with nothing having happened.  How can I get my movie to download?

  • HT1657 Rented movie does not download on Apple tv

    Dear apple. You've done it again. You ruined our movie night. Rented movie, got all ready to start watching. Now the movie does not download. Wrong on your Sid as Internet works (100Mbps) and other content/trailers download swiftly.
    I am extremely ****** of that this happened again. I have lost the past hour trying various things and now finding a way to get my money back.
    Please up your game.

    Thanks King_Penguin,
    The fact that I logged into an apple.com site fooled me to believe that this was a 'report a problem' site.
    I since found the 'report a problem' link.
    Wasn't easy to find (could not find it on my apple TV or iPad) had to:
    log into iTunes via laptop, and then
    click on iTunes Store (right top);
    click on account (quick link or at bottom);
    select "see all' next to purchase history;
    click on small arrow next to 'problem' purchase (movie rental for me);
    click on 'report a problem' (at bottom);
    click on 'report a problem again (now inside the purchase details)  - redirect to browse
    fill in details, and
    submit.
    As you can see quite a long process.
    The long process and my missed movie night were the frustrating parts.
    The reponse from Apple Customer Support was swift and extremely good - makes up for the frustration.

  • Rented movie will not download

    Just rented a movie at iTunes, But it will not download.
    The download icon just disappers. I have an ipad with the newest update.
    Please help! Thanks :)

    First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
    Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • Rented movie doesn't download

    I had some friends over last night and tried to rent a movie on Apple TV2, connected via wifi to home network, Comcast is ISP. I went through the rental screens, added my CC security code, clicked "OK' and nothing happened. Isn't there a prompt that should appear and say how long the movie will take to download? (I've only purchased shows in the past, with no issues at all, but this was my first rental). So, I thought maybe it just needed time to download, but we ended up watching something already in My computer queue. When I checked for rentals, nothing was there, also there was no charge made to my account. Did I do something wrong?
    Also, I had plenty of money in my iTunes account, why did it ask for a security code on my CC?

    I've checked all my settings on both my Apple TV and in iTunes. I can purchase and download movies, songs, etc in iTunes with no issues. I am also able to download free shows on my Apple TV (so far, I've only tried free shows except for the one rental) and I can also access my previously purchased movies and TV shows.
    I seem to recall a setting when I first set up my Apple TV that asked for a pin or a password when downloading rentals & purchases but I can't find the setting anywhere.
    What am I missing?
