Renting movies while out of the US/Canada

I am in Romania. I download music and podcasts.....no problem. I have rented 3 movies....from 2 different computers and can down load just fine. One of my computers must not have enough memory to playback movies. The other computer plays the movie but there is NO AUDIO.
2 months ago I bought a movie on I-tunes...no Problem. My kids watched it and then when they tried to watch it a few days later......NO AUDIO.To complicate the problem the local phone company came to fix the dsl and now I have NO AUDIO and no way of knowing if the phone company did something. I have audio on everything else, including i-tunes podcasts.
So finally to the question. Romania is known for credit card fraud and movie pirating. Is the lack of audio i-tunes way of protecting their product.....does i-tunes block rentals to specific locations.

No, Apple doesn't block rentals in any location! This is definitly a problem with your computer...

Did you rent the movie on your iPad?  Are you trying to watch it on your iPad?
Do you have WiFi connectivity when trying to start viewing the movie?
You should have answered "yes" to all the above.  If not, that is probably the source of your issue.

The photos are on the ipod.  Photo sync will erase them.  I need a way to extract them from the ipod, or to.extract them from the ipod backup that is who knows where on my PC.
I've been searching for an app to do that with no luck.  They all seem to want a newer OS than is on my ipod yet I have the most recent update installed.

  • HT1657 Can I watch a rented movie while I have no Internet connection ie. on a flight

If I download a rented movie can I play it if I have no Internet connection?

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
You may need to validate the rental prior to watching so it starts the rental period timer and for that you will need an internet connection. You can probably do that by starting the rented movie while on the Airport Wifi or right before leaving home. You'll have 24 hours to watch the movie after you start it.
For more information on movie rentals, you can visit:

Note: 24 hours time limit is for United States customer only, while 48 hours for other countries.

  • HT1657 What happens if my rented movie just stops in the middle?  Can I re download it free of charge?

2 of my rented movies just stopped in the middle of the movie.  Is it possible to redown load them free of charge?  If not what other recourse is there for movies that do not down load properly?

If it's not playing properly then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that film and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

  • HT1657 Can you watch rented movies while on an airplane?

Can rented movies be watched while on an airplane and to a different country?

As long as the films have been fully downloaded then you shouldn't need to be online in order to watch them.

  • Rented movie TV out volume

Hi, I am playing a rented movie on my TV through my iPod touch using the composite AV cable. For some reason every rented movie has very low volume. That is, even when the TV and iPod are turned up full, it is still very quiet.
Any other video I play (that I have converted myself) has a lot louder volume, so there is no problem.
Does anyone know how to increase the volume of my rented movies?
    Thanks very much

I ws having this issue as well.
Speaker solution...I guess that might work it would just require more hauling around stuff.
It should be noted that this doesn't work quite like people would think it would work when they purchase the cables. Yes there is a work around but well its a bummer. :O)
I had a 42 inch Sam sung Flat Screen TV that I hooked it up to and well had to have the volume turned WAY up and just about blasted my ears off because I unplugged the Iphone cables and the TV went to its regular channel and well...:O)

Yes, you can use a US Skype Number while you're out of the country.
Even if you're overseas your friends and relatives can call your US Skype Number at local rates. When they want to call you, simply sign in to Skype and answer the call when it rings – and you pay nothing to answer the call.

  • HT1491 Purchased or rented movies being physically on the device?

    Hi all,
I've just bought my first apple product and I want to buy or rent some movies on iTunes to watch on the plane.
Does the movie actually save in the physical memory of the device and can therefore be accessed from anywhere - plane, different country?
Also if I buy a season pass for a tv show, does that also physically save on my device?
    Appreciate any info on this,
    Thanks,
    Madla

Both films and TV shows will download to your iPad yes (they will go into its Videos app), and as long as they are fully downloaded then you should be able to watch them whilst offline. There are also some wifi-enabled drives that allow you to stream films and TV shows to an iPad, so you don't necessarily have to store them all on the actual iPad.
Also note that films and TV shows can't be re-downloaded in all countries (and even where they can be re-downloaded there is no guarantee that they will remain in the store for future re-downloading), so before you delete them from your iPad you may want to copy them to your computer's iTunes (File > Transfer Purchases, File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11) so that you can take a backup of them.

  • Days left for rented movies counts down by the hour

    Hi,
    is anyone experiencing this?
Recently I downloaded some movies, some where .99 offers other 2.99 offers.
After download the days left show 10 days and 1 hour. Maybe it is correlated with the offer fact, as I guess "normal rent" movies are 30 days until you start watching them.
What I experience is, that after one hour after download completed, the days left show 9 days and 1 hour. After another hour the days left show 8 days and 1 hour ...
    Anyone saw this?
    Thanks,
    Hank

  • How do I keep a rented movie locally stored for the authorised period?

Okay, so just bought an Apple TV for the first time, so this is all new to me! So far, most of it makes sense, but I'm wondering about how the unit manages downloaded content.
It seems to me that you rent a movie, Apple TV starts downloading it and makes it available to play. I live in Australia, so I have 30 days to start watching it, and once I've started, I have 48hrs to finish watching it.
So, I downloaded our first movie the other night. We watched half of it before sending the kids to bed (school night) and watching the rest of it ourselves. The next day we went to start watching it again, but from about halfway through so the kids could see the end of it. All was fine, except I noticed that Apple TV was downloading it again.
This puzzled me - that is, it didn't seem to make sense - I assumed the onboard 8GB would be used to store it for 48 hours from when we started playing it? So, is there some way to achieve this? For eg, if I set Apple TV to never sleep prior to renting a movie, then rent a movie, will it keep it stored for the authorised period because it hasn't gone to sleep?
If not, is there some way to achieve this outcome? I just don't see the point of using up a data allowance by downloading the exact same thing - even if I change my settings to standard definition it's still a waste of data.
I did do a few online searches of various FAQs, but couldn't find the answer to this question, so hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me or refer me to a good source of info.
    Thanks!

Thanks Brian. I realise the OS controls memory management, but was wondering what "rules" it used to manage it and whether any of the user settings (such as sleep) would affect it?
So, if there's nothing the user can do to impact this, would it make more "sense" to rent the movie on iTunes on your Mac and then watch it on the Apple TV? Would that negate the need to re-download the movie each time you watched it? And, if so, what are the disadvantages of this approach?
Or should I just forget the whole thing, increase my data allowance, and not worry about it?
Still, it'd be nice not to have to redownload it if that was inconvenient for some reason.
Simple things like watching a movie preview or playing content from local iTunes will flush the buffered rental from ATV 2/3 - they only have 8GB of solid state storage and if you rent more than 1 HD movie (4GB or so) they will be competing for download/buffering space.
The only disadvanatges of renting in iTunes are:
    - need for itunes to be running to play
    - some titles available in HD on ATV are only in SD via iTunes!
