Reopening Project missing text for lower thirds

Good Day all,
I'm new to FCP X but i'm wondering if any others are having this issue. When ever I reopen a project I'm working on all my text are either gone or mis-aligned.
this is the 3rd time I have had to redo these edits...

Here's a
Community Help search that brings up a few different answers.
I think that the best solution is the one on the AE Enhancers site linked to from the last line of

  • Capital Project Settlement Rule for lower WBS

    Hello,
At my present client, for Investment projects the client want to settle top level WBS to AUC and capitalise it. So ideally the cost from lower level WBS should flow to top WBS. I am using substitution to remove investment profile from lower WBS.My concern is how do I auto populate the settlement rule for lower WBS to top WBS. I am aware about settlement strategy and OSS note 211324 (however dont want to implement this note)
The appraoch I am looking for is using "WBS_SETTLEMENT_RULE' BAdI . However this BADI calls for strategy and I could not maintain the required strategy (settlement to top WBS). Is there some BADI/Function module available which can be called for updating the settlement rules on lower WBS while saving or Release ? Can I make use of exits in Substitution?
Please let me know your opinions.
    Thanks
    Sarang

Thanks Virendra. I agrree the only approach is development. But I need to give inputs to my developer.
We tried with BADI "WBS_SETTLEMENT_RULE" but it didnt work as it calls strategy in configuration.
So I am checking for some other options for e.g "WORKBREAKDOWN_UPDATE" which is called during save or Fn modules K_SETTLEMENT_RULE_FILL or K_SETTLEMENT_RULE_SAVE which I can use. This is a client requirement to create AUC only at top level n all cost to be rolled up to superior WBS n then settle to AUC.
The other option I was thinking is of using exits thru substitution.
What will be the best approach?
    Thanks

  • Default font for lower thirds

When I create a lower thirds display in FCP, the font always defaults to Lucida Grande. Is there a way to set the default to another font?

    Hi,
the best way to do that (and keep your default font even if preferences are trashed) is to change the default font from within the generator script (and even give your distinctive own name to the generator). To answer your question more constructively YES you can AND is not difficult...I wish I could upload screenshots and helpful info as extra aid but I can't right now but [this few posts of mine|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8780016] provide you with pretty much everything you need to know in order to create your own "Teknia's Text Generator".
Might be able to provide more help later,

  • Proper codec to retain Alpha for lower thirds etc..??

From Motion, I've been trying to create a QT version of my motion graphics with Alpha to retain transperancy. But it always merges with black background. I verify by trying to lay it back over a still, and of course it goes black. I've tried Export using Batch Compressor, with Animation ...Graphics etc.
I've tried Export using Quicktime Conversions, I've tried everything... Help!!! thanks

Either bring the Motion project directly into FCP and use it like a quicktime, or use Animation codec with Millions+ as the color setting ("+" is the alpha channel).

  • How can I apply text position attributes (e.g. lower third) to more than one title at a time?

How can I apply text position attributes (e.g. lower third) to more than one title at a time?

    jhb3243
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
In the case of this theoretical lower third to be applied to more than one title at a time
    a. Is there text in the lower third besides a graphic of some kind?
    b. Are all the titles to which this lower third is to be applied all together on the Timeline or scattered?
If no text in lower third and titles all together, then, with text titles on Video 1 and lower third on Video 2, drag out the lower third to cover the length of the text titles on Video 1.
I do not find "lower third" title files to be in the same category as certain effects where the Copy and "Paste Attributes" or "Paste Effects and Adjustments" lend themselves so well.
Let us see what others have to say about all this. I will continue to experiment with what you seek and how you would prefer to get there. I am not optimistic but I will try.
    Thanks.

  • Quick way to create Lower thirds from Spreadsheet

Maybe everyone knows this already since it came out when I was away from the forums, but I searched the Premiere Pro forums for the word "spreadsheet" and got no related results, so here goes....
There is a way to type all of your information for lower thirds, or titles of any kind for that matter, including the kind of sub titles that are actually on the video itself, into a spreadsheet and using variables, create as many Photoshop PSD files to be imported into Premiere Pro as you wish.
    It is brilliant. Simply brilliant.
Download the sample project and the PDF of the instructions. They ask for your name and e-mail address so that they can lock the PDF to one person (another good trick) to avoid people sharing. They want you to see the info about the book. But this chapter if free. And brilliant. Simply brilliant. But I guess I said that already.
    http://premierepro.net/editing/spreadsheets-to-lower-thirds/

Well, I know what I would do if I needed to do such a thing.
The programming language in Microsoft Excel is extremely powerful. It is a version of Visual Basic and can easily manipulate text files. So I would open a PRTL file, change the text and save it as the next title. Then I would repeat for every line in the spreadsheet.
To make this easy, after formatting your first title, change the text to something simple, and export it to a PRTL file - and always use the same text and same title name to make writing the macro easier. Then just cycle through the rows of the spreadsheet. I haven't done this in ages, but I suppose I could give it a go if I had the proper motivation.
But why? Why not use Photoshop?

  • Professional Animated Lower Thirds, Transitions, and effect presets.

I shoot and edit a lot of video and would like to know of some professional template HD animations I could get to spice these projects up a bit. Some are business projects, some personal like weddings and parties, some are live bands or music videos.
Is there a company/site out there that has a great selection of these sorts of templates and/or even presets for fast/great effects? mostly I need animated templates for lower thirds, transitions, and intros...
Also, if anyone would like to share what they do in premiere for professional effects that would be sweet. Like what effects you use that I should consider to make the videos more interesting while staying professional...

I make graphic sequences from scratch for lwer 3rds in Premiere. Main tool being the title maker.
I start with HD sequence I'll call Lwr_3rdBking. On this I'll compose motion and layering of solid graphic clips created with Premiere's title maker, photoshop, AE, In camera FX shots, whatever works. I use the Blend option in the opacity controls to create some neat looks.
Then I'll nest the Lwr_3rdBking sequence, and use a 4 point garbage matt to draw a shape the size of a lower 3rd bar. Basically cropping the nested  Lwr_3rdBking sequence.
Then I'll use the title maker to draw a lwer 3rd box over the cropped and matted Lwr_3rdBking. I take care to match the size neatly. I turn off the fill color of the box I just  made, the turn on inner stroke, set it to bevel and adjust the bevel gradient. Shadow could also be added.
When I'm happy with the lower 3rd frame that I created with Title maker, I will lay it on top of the nested & cropped  Lwr_3rdBking sequence, The gives me a lower 3rd graphic that has motion within and is framed nicely.
If I use it repeatedly, I just duplicated the original Lwr_3rdBking sequence in the project window, rename it for it's purpose. Then add whatever text to the each new Lwr_3rd sequence.
It may seem laborious, but really once you settle on an initial design, the creation of subsequent title sequences is very speedy.
    Hope that helps.

  • Lower third super "bug"?

Don't know if there's a solution or if it's "just one of those things"...
But I started a project in PPro CS2, with lower third graphics created in AE with an alpha channel so they're self-keying. I had them fade in at the same time a directional blur effect was fading out.
I recently updated to PPro CS4. When I opened this project in CS4, the lower third fades in okay, but at the point the blur reaches 0, the entire graphic jumps down a few lines.
I tried using a different type of blur, but it still jumps.
I tried reinserting the lower third and adding the fade in and blur fresh - but it still happens. To make sure it wasn't just the monitoring, I exported the section and the jump is definitely there.
It works okay without the blur, so I may have to settle for that.
Any suggestions? I just thought - I'll try reimporting the graphic, and also double check the alpha channels settings are correct...

There are a few bugs crawling around some of the filters in CS4 under certain conditions.  Try adding an opacity keyframe to the clips set to 100%.  it wont affect the effect, but this sometimes makes other filters behave.

  • Problem with lower third template & modifying the text...

I'm doing a top 10 type video, & I downloaded this lower third template & I had never used AE before; I figured out how to duplicate it multiple times through the video where appropriate... but when I modify the text on one template it does the same thing to all of them. How do I make them all separate?

Ok, think about what you have done to change the text for moment. You drilled down to a pre-comp or nested comp that contains a text layer. This makes perfect sense. Unfortunately that text pre-comp is also nested in a pre-comp. This means you need to find each of these pre-comps in your project panel and duplicate them there, open the duplicates and then change the text in the duplicates, then replace the original nested comps in the main comp.
I have another observation on your workflow. You've put a bunch of shots and transitions in a single comp which, in effect, tells me that you are using AE as a NLE (editing app). What I would have done is to put every one of your shots that you want to add titles to in a separate comp to simplify each comp. I'd then edit them in a NLE....
The other way I would do this project is to make a comp that is just the needed titles, one comp for each tltle overlay, render the titles with alpha channels, then bring the titles and the original footage into a NLE to edit and add titles.
Building extremely complex compositions with multiple shots in a single comp is usually not a very good idea, even for folks like me that have been doing AE for 20 years. AE is perfect at making shots, lousy at editing sequences so always, and I mean always, try to figure out how you can simplify your project to it's basic elements and build a comp on that. I've had 5 second animations with over a hundred layers, but I've never put 10 or 20 video clips in AE in a single comp and tried to create a sequence.

  • When I select a title or lower thirds and try to enter text by double clicking on it I cannot enter any text at all. Also the text area box does not show up at all where you can enter text also.

When I select a title or lower thirds and try to enter text by double clicking on it I cannot enter any text at all. Also the text area box does not show up at all where you can enter text also.

It's a bit hit and miss, Walter. Sometimes the box to enter text shows up straight away in the inspector under "text". Other times, although you click "text" in the inspector, there's nowhere to actually write anything.... then what you have to do is move the trackbar over the Title Box until you see the text boxes in the main Viewer. In the Viewer, double click a text box.... you can enter text there, but it's a bit flaky, but when you've clicked in it, you'll find that under "Text" in the inspector, the box for inputting text has magically appeared!
I'm not sure if anyone else has this trouble, but it is a bit of a pain!

  • New Best Practice for Titles and Lower Thirds?

    Hi everyone,
In the days of overscanned CRT television broadcasts, the classic Title Safe restrictions and the use of larger, thicker fonts made a lot of sense. These practices are described in numerous references and forum posts.
Nowadays, much video content will never be broadcast, CRTs are disappearing, and it's easy to post HD video on places like YouTube and Vimeo. As a result, we often see lower thirds and other text really close to the edge of the frame, as well as widespread use of thin (not bold) fonts. Even major broadcast networks are going in this direction.
So my question is, what are the new standards? How would you define contemporary best practice?
    Thanks for your thoughtful replies!

  • How can I add text to a Lower Third mov

I have downloaded a few lower thirds from a website and they download as .mov files.
I am trying to add text to them and lay them over some product spotlight videos for my work.
I was thinking that they were going to be in template form but they are not.
What is the best way to add text to these .mov lower third files?
I just have to create my own animation for the text to follow along the lower third?

    > I just have to create my own animation for the text to follow along the lower third?
Yes, that seems to be the case.

  • Scrolling text - lower third -across

I need some suggestions on creating lower third text that scrolls across the screen.
I have FCX ( including Livetype ) and of course iMovie.
Everything there scrolls up and down. ( I think...lol...at least I can't find the answer )
I have searched for applications that would duplicate what I did on my title maker direct
to video and have been unable to find any answers.
Going back to square on and recording direct to film and then capturing and editing is of course possible but that would a long route for what seems to be doable on my computer.
    Any suggestions??

What you are talking about is called a 'crawl' you can do this in FCP, It's under text>Title Crawl. you can just create it in the viewer and BAM, there you go.

Try this. At the lower right of the viewer window there's an "A" in what looks like a film frame. Click than, the choose "text" -> crawl. Then click the "control" tab at the top of the viewer window to enter your text. Use the other controls to specify, the size, spacing, crawl direction, and location of your text.
