Reording songs in my Playlists

I've been able to do this before; but for whatever reason, I don't seem to be able to do so now.
In my list of songs for in a playlist, I was able to click and drag a song up or down to where I wanted it; like if I wanted one song to be the 5th song and another one to be the 3rd, etc..
That's not working for me now. I've already tried going to Controls >> Shuffle >> Turn Shuffle Off (as well as On) etc..
Any suggestions anyone??
I was able to do this just last week too.. so I don't get what's changed since then or whatever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank you!!

Hmm, okay, this worked.. I deslected all of the things that were selected in this dropdown menu from right-clicking at the column area there..
Then I tried clicking and dragging a song to be a different # and that worked.. strange.. I know I had more columns selected/showing before in my playlists, and I was able to drag and move songs to order how I wanted..
Oh well, at least I'm able to do now what I wanted LOL
Thank you both for your help! (:
@ tt2: In case you remember me from before - I ended up having to manually put my music back in iTunes (luckily I had almost all of my music files saved onto thumb drives etc.).. I finally have everything synced now; except for Outlook sort of. My Calendar is synced between Outlook and my iPod touch, but before I had the iCloud thing showing as a button thing in my main/Home ribbon in Outlook.. now I no longer have that.. I guess that's not all that important though, just so long as my Calendar in Outlook and my iPod are the same/synced.. although it doesn't sync automatically.. I guess maybe that's what the iCloud thing up at the top in Outlook had to do with?
I want my Calendars to always be in sync with each other, like without having to manually connect my iPod to my computer/iTunes to sync my iPod etc.. any suggestions for that ??

    Vera,
Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

  • How to reorder songs in a playlist?

itunes v7.3.2.6, running under windows 2000 on a dual p3-450. (Rock solid computer--uptime generally measured in months.)
ARGH! This is so incredibly frustrating!
I've got a few playlists that contain more than 100 songs. I'd like to reorder and move a song from near the end (say, #96) to the front of the list. And I'd like to accomplish this task within a few seconds. With the keyboard, if possible. I can select a song and drag it to the top of the "Name" column, and the playlist will (ever so slowly) scroll up. I'd estimate it at about 2-4 songs/second. At this rate, it's going to take quite some time (25 seconds or more in this example) before I'll reach the top of the playlist, where I can drop the song. Needless to say, this is far to slow to be acceptable.
In the world I live in (embedded software development), something like this can be done in about 1 second: I'd highlight the line in my editor, ctrl+c to copy it, ctrl+home to scroll to the top of the list, ctrl+v to paste it at the top, and be done. I don't think is too much of a stretch to expect to edit a playlist as I would edit text.
Am I missing some super-obvious and Apple-approved way to reorder the playlist?
Surely they don't expect me to spend a minute every time I want to move a song through the playlist, do they?
Is this problem all my own fault, simply because I have more than one screen worth of songs in a playlist? (Seriously, my mini playlist has 504 songs in it.)
I'll stop now, before I get into my other rant about how I'd like to reorder multiple songs (think, album) at one time.

As closely as I recall, go to 'Settings' to set up Shuffle, then go to your playlist and the tracks will then play in random order.

  • How do I reorder songs in a playlist in iTunes 12? I can't just click and drag.

I am working on a playlist in iTunes 12, I need the songs to be burned to a CD in a specific order.
I cannot figure out how to manually re-order my songs in this playlist.
I know how to order the songs by artist, album, genre etc but I need to be able to do it manually however I want the songs to play.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Can't reorder songs in some playlists

I want to reorder the songs in one of my playlists. When I try to drag a song to a new location a blue line appears around the whole playlist and the black bar that usually tells you where the song will drop does not appear. This only happens in some of my playlists. In others I can drag and drop songs to reorder them just fine. What am I doing wrong?

Make sure that shuffle (the crossing arrows at the lower left) is turned off and that the little triangle is above the first column (the column of numbers). If the triangle is above any other column, the list will stay sorted by that column, and you will not be able to move tracks.

If you go to the Now Playing screen, the Repeat control is the the arrowed racetrack icon on the left side right below the scrubber bar. Tap the icon to change. It is white when Repeat is off.

  • ITunes won't let me add new songs to established playlists - what's wrong?

I'm more than frustrated. Yesterday, everything worked fine! I created 3 playlists and did the drag/drop of songs into the playlists. Today, I bought more music. Those songs show up in my library. But ... when I try to drag/drop the new songs into the established playlists, the playlists don't update. No new songs.

I'm really a novice at this ... I just found the added songs. I thought they would be put in alphabetically just like the first round. They weren't ... they were added on the bottom.
Sorry for my stupid question. ::sigh::

You wouldn't know how to get iCal to update on a iMac that doesn't have Lion installed, would you?
Unfortunately, you need a Mac running Lion v10.7.2

  • With iTunes match, order of the songs in my playlist of mobile devices is not the same as on my computer

In my iTunes on computer, I have several smart play lists. Within each playlist, songs are set to a certain order. Some playlist songs order are organized by name, some playlists are organized by Album, some playlists are organized by artist etc.
When I was syncing my iPhone and iPad directly with my computer, the playlists on my mobile device had same order of songs as on my itunes in computer.
Now, I signed up for iTunes match. With iCloud sync, order of the songs in my playlist of mobile devices is not the same as on my computer. In fact, order of songs within a playlist appears to be completely random. Moreover, order of songs are different in my iPhone 4s and iPad 2
How can I change the order of songs on my mobile devices or how do I make iTunes match to sync my songs such that within a playlist, my songs are in the same order as that of iTunes on my computer.

Thanks mracole. I assume this means order of songs will work with regular play lists I iTunes match. Will try it this afternoon and report.
Please let me know if my understanding is not correct.
Best regards and thanks once again.

    Hi Dennis!
I have a couple of steps for you to try in order to get those songs transferred to your iPod touch. First, make sure all of your software is updated with the latest versions. If the songs were downloaded from iTunes, you will also want to delete the songs from your library and then download them again from the list of past purchases on your iTunes account. An article about doing that can be found here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If you try a sync after those two steps and are still seeing the issue, then I would like you to try syncing the iPod by setting it to manually manage. An article outlining more information on manually managing your iPod sync can be found here:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
If you are still having issues after that, I have another article that can outline some other reasons why your songs may not transfer to your iPod, and it can be found here:
Some songs in iTunes won't copy to iPod

  • How do you delete a song from a playlist in iTunes?

I feel stupid asking this question but how do you delete a song from a playlist? right clicking doesn't give a menu option to do it, and neither does the file menu. The highlight/delete option doesn't work either.
Also, I've ended up with several copies of the same songs in my library . Can i delete the excess tracks in one go without highlighting them?
    Thanks,
    Dom

Option-delete will remove a selected track from a playlist AND the library. Delete will just remove the track from a regular playlist.
Yes, you need to highlight all the songs you want to delete. Sort your library by song title. This should put all the dups together for easy highlighting and deleting.

  • ITunes Match doesn't work at times-  in the same room (on Wifi) I will add a song to my playlist on the iMac- instantly it appears on my iPad but not on my iPhone 6plus

ITunes Match is extremely unpredictable-  in the same room of my house on the same WiFi- all my devices are up to date (software wise). I will add a song on my iMac 27". To a playlist I created-  Instantly the song shows in the playlist on my IPad Air2. But it does NOT show in my playlist on my iPhone 6plus-  I reboot everything- even do a hard-wired sync- it just won't appear-  sometimes- frustrated with the time I am wasting I just email (from my iMac) the song to myself so that I can play it on my iPhone 6Plus-   I create a lot of music on my iMac using Logic Pro- and there are times I want to have the process (songs in the marking) available on my iPhone so I can play them while driving, etc.,  extremely frustrating as this issue is very new -  had no problems for months and months but now I do- I rebooted everything (phone, etc.,) created a new play list-and then it appeared on the iPhone in the new playlist-  BUT if I want to add a song to the new playlist- same situation- never appears on the iPhone but does appear on my iPad IMac and MacBook Pro-  ITunes Match is turned on- I am on the same WiFi FAST network at my house-  Any ideas ?

Hi Rob- I'm guessing it has something to do with all the update stuff Apple keeps doing (with Yosemite, etc.,) extremely frustrating - also whenever I load up iTunes on any of my devices- I am asked to enter my passcode- which I will do- then I am asked to do it 2 or 3 more times - right after the other- crazy how annoying something like that can be- I have looked online for solutions- i.e. close out of the account, reset the passcode- all of it- nothing seems to fix that situation either-  what I have discovered (playing around) is on my iPhone 6+ if I go to settings and turn OFF iTunes match- then turn it back ON- suddenly all the music that wasn't loaded shows up magically- but I had to do that each time I'd update songs in my playlist on the iMac- then go to the iPhone and turn off the match- then turn it back on- almost like it is resetting things-

  • Songs "missing" from playlist still in library

I've seen similar threads but my issue is slightly different. I do apologize if this is a duplicate post.
In many of my playlists, a song will now be marked as missing by an exclamation point.  However, the song is still in the library and I can manually locate it.  This is happening to too many songs (70 at last count) so it is a PIA to fix.  Any ideas how to automate this? Suggestions on how to stop this from happening (this isn't the first time)?
I haven't moved any songs or made changes to song names or libraries. The songs are in the same place and when I click locate for the first missing song in the list, iTunes goes directly to the right folder.  For each subsequent song, I've got to point iTunes.
    Thanks!

Not a Sony Vaio. I have one of the first iPods. It was a gift. It's not that songs disappear from the playlist in the iPod, but from playlists on the computer. They are in the music library and I have to copy and paste them back into the playlist I want them in. I haven't lost any from the music library, fortunately.
The playlists (I have a bunch of them) are blue with a music note. The songs in the playlists have checkmarks next to them, and are all checked. They just drop out of a playlist every now and again and I have to copy it back in. I can go for a while and think "hey, I haven't heard X in a long time". And sure enough it's dropped from the playlist in the computer, and I have to copy it back in from the library, then resynch the iPod. Really weird and mildly annoying.

  • Songs disappear from playlist once in a while but are still in library

Every now and again I notice that a song has disappeared from a playlist. I can copy it back to the playlist from the music library. But what makes the song drop from the playlist? It's either a song I purchased from iTunes or one I imported from cd. Doesn't matter.
