then it shutdown the error is

i think the problem is env set so I add below to reports.sh

Could it be as simple as a problem with the uname command in the /db0/oracle/product/10g/orabi/bin/rwengine.sh shell script? If you are unfamiliar with unix, the rwengine.sh is a shell script containing commands to the operating system. Of these, one is uname. The job of uname is to learn the 'name' of the computer, i.e. the uname of the web server for Oracle Technology Network would 'forums.oracle.com'.
The uname command is often used construct parts of another command which is run later in the script. For example:
ping uname
would issue the ping command on itself.

I am also facing this problem - I've deployed the reports on the Portal and authenticated users can access the reports.
The problem is that when any authenticated user tries to access the report, on his very first access this error is shown.
REP-56071: Security check failed with error message: Error code30009 - Generic access check failed..
But after the user click on the Personalize link of the portlet and specify the parameters values(which are empty initially) then report runs fine.
Plz let me know the solution as no user will like to see this error message for the first time he opens the report.

We have an Oracle 9iAS R2 v9.0.2.2 installation on Linux (Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1). We have installed PatchSet 2703110, 2581587 and 2842923.
Oracle9i Reports version is: 9.0.2.2.0
iAS and Infrastructure are on separate hosts.
Trying to run Reports demo test.jsp or test.rdf we get the following message:

Found on Metalink the following Note: 216847.1
This recommends to comment out the security and destination tags in ORACLE_MIDDLETIER_HOME/report/conf/<repserver>.conf file
After commenting them out reports works fine.
BUT
at the end of the note there is a note which states that "Commenting out the security tag removes the integration of the reports server and portal."
We need reports integration with Portal. We need SSO as well.
Could you give any workaround for this problem?
PS.: I have red Note:213171.1, Note:216118.1, http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/getstart/whitepapers/securing9i.pdf and BUG:2645629
None of them gave any solution for the problem

REP-56106 when starting Reports with VBScript

I currently use a VBScript to start-up Reports and other Oracle services. Here is an example of how I do it:

While Reports is starting-up, I receive the following error in a pop-up window: "REP-56106: Engine rwEng-0 died with error:"
The odd thing about this is that I was previously using the VBScript SendKeys method to start-up Reports. This worked well except it required using the Sleep method in order to wait for commands to finish rather than detecting when a call had terminated and then moving on to the next call (this is what my new script does with Run method). Here is an example of the old way I was doing it:
' START THE REPORTS SERVER
ws.SendKeys "cd " & AS_DIR & "\bin\{ENTER}"
ws.SendKeys REPSERVER & "{ENTER}"
WScript.Sleep 2000
I also tried starting up the other Oracle services using my new script, then manually starting Reports server. This causes the same error.
So, it seems like using my new script causes some problem while starting up the other services which subsequently causes Reports to crash. However, checking the status of the mid-tier and infrastructure show that the appropriate services are started.
Any ideas on how I can use the VBScript Run method to start-up services and Reports?
Or does anyone else have ideas on how to script the start-up of the mid-tier, infrastructure and Reports that actually waits for one call to finish before starting the next?

I have managed to resolove this problem by updating the installed JDK. I installed jdk-6u6-linux-i586-rpm.bin (downloaded from http://java.sun.com/)
I then updated the LD_LIBRARY_PATH in $ORACLE_HOME/bin/reports.sh to agree with the installed JDK locations.

Stock variance report Crashes with error code REP-56048

Problem Statement : When the user is trying to generate report for Stock variance report from Oracle Retail Merchandising System the report crashes with error code REP-56048.
The steps to reproduce are specific to Oracle Retail Merchandising system application and hence I have not mentioned here.
The REP-56048 error seems to be generic. Could you please advise me on this issue.

XML Report completes with error due to REP-271504897: Unable to retrieve a string from the Report Builder message file.

We are in the middle of testing our R12 Upgrade. I am getting this error from the invoice XML-based report that we are using in R12. (based on log). Only for a specific invoice number that this error is appearing. The trace is not showing me anything. I don't know how to proceed on how to debug where the error is coming from and how to fix this. I found a patch 8339196 that shows exactly the same error number but however, I have to reproduce the error in another test instance before we apply the patch. I created exactly the same order and interface to AR and it doesnt generate an error. I even copied the order and interface to AR and it doesn't complete with error. It is only for this particular invoice that is having an issue and I need to get the root cause as to why. Please help. I appreciate what you all can contribute to identify and fix our issue. We have not faced this issue in R11i that we are maintaining right now for the same program which has been running for sometime. However, after the upgrade for this particular data that the user has created, it is throwing this error REP-271504897.

If you cant reproduce the issue on other instance, apply the patch on the test instance and verify all the funcionality related to the patch works OK. Then move the patch to production. Or you can clone the prod environment to test the patch.

ORACLE_HOME is on mount point u03, checked config.properties but no mention of mount point /u01.
Dont know from where /u01 came. Could you please help me re configuring the env pointing to /u03.
Reports server is up though without any issues.

Ensure that the report name is correct. Also ensure that the report exist in REPORTS_PATH environment variable. Otherwise run the report including the reports path.
E.g.
report=<reports directory>/test2.rdf

We have OAS 10g on solaris.
When trying to generate a report we get the error : Terminated with error: REP-300: ORACLE error occurred
The report has been running fine until yesterday and today we are getting the error. I did not find anything relvant in metalink.
And no changes have been to the report.
Can anybody suggest me what to look yet or any possible things that might cause the error. The tracing is not enabled.

Since the last couple of days we are having a problem with Oracle Reports.
Whenever we run these reports, it behaves erratic.
The report comes normal for the first few reports, then suddenly the server gets hanged and no reports can be generated.
OS on Application server is Windows Server 2003.Os on client machine is XP and Vista

I m unable to trace what is wrong currently i m using report application server 10.1.2.3.0 and delimited as desformat.
I have already used jvmoption and delimiteddata.
but both failed to solve the problem as jvmoption does not work in my case and delimiteddata has expected format problem.I want to use delimited option so what is the problem with engine that it crashes on the few reports.

Do the following:
1. It is necessary to modify the engine definition to include :
jvmOptions="-Xmx512M -Xms128M -Xss512k"
How to do it, depends on the version of Report Server in use :
a. For version 10gR2 (10.1.2.x) :
Backup your Reports server .conf file and Modify the rwEng parameters and add :
jvmOptions="-Xmx512M -Xms128M -Xss512k"
b. For version 11g (11.X), this has to be done through Enterprise Manager. In Enterprise Manager, locate your Report Server and go to "Basic Configuration" page then insert :
-Xmx512M -Xms128M -Xss512k
into the field "JVM Options" and "Apply" your changes.
* The important option is "Xss" that sets the maximum stack size that can be used by C code in a thread.
3. Restart your reports server and try to run again with DESFORMAT=SPREADSHEET

frequently getting the error The report terminated with error: REP-501: The specified database cannot be connected..
Can anyboby help me to solve this problem

REP-501 typically means that Oracle Reports are unable to locate any available Oracle Databases. By default, Oracle Reports (similar to Oracle Forms) will only look for available databases in tnsnames.ora. Not only that, but the Reports environment by default will always look for the tnsnames.ora file in %ORACLE_INSTANCE%\config ($ORACLE_INSTANCE/config in Unix). I have seen these scenarios happen before especially if the TNS_ADMIN variable for your Forms environment variables is a directory different from %ORACLE_INSTANCE%\config. This would be the first place I would look.
If tnsnames.ora is located in %ORACLE_INSTANCE%\config, do all generated reports fail with this message or a select amount of them? If only a select amount of them, are there any similarities with these reports (e.g, size, parameters, etc.)?

My report server can function nicely, always I can retrieve my report but I am also constantly facing the error when running report after a few minutes having my report servers on function.
Terminated with error: <br>REP-501: Unable to connect to the specified database.
I have 2 oracle home in my server, 1 is 9i (used for ODBC to connect to my database) and 1 more is 10g where my application server is.
My both my TNS files have all the entries of the database server. In fact, we gets reports perfectly OK without problem until a certain time when the error pops up.
Pls help

I did not check the timeout because all reports were generated within seconds.
