REPACHK2 phase in prepare
Dear Pals,
I am upgrading my 4.7 box to ECC 6.0 with EHP4. During the upgrade in the phase REPACHK2 it asked me to to lock the system.
I have given lock system . But now when i am checking in the system i have few requests those are note released. Now i just want to release these request. Please suggest me how to unlock the system. Its a development system.
Thanks,
Chaitanya.
HI
For Locking entire system :
1. tp locksys <SID> pf=<transport profile>
For unlocking :
2. tp unlocksys <SID> pf=<transport profile>
In your case , refer : Upgrade stops at REPACHK2 - locked SAP objects, but how to remove?
Re: Problem during phase : REPACHK2
It may be helpful.

Problem with ECC 5.0 Upgrade in JOB_RASUVAR1 phase of PREPARE
I am upgrading 4.6B system (copy of production to build QA system) on Tru64 with 3TB Oracle DB. The JOB_RASUVAR1 phase of PREPARE in running for about 115 hours. This phase saves existing variants for future conversion. There is a job running at the SAP level which using a lot of CPU, but no active Oracle session for this job. The same job took less than an hour on development system (200GB DB). So far the response from SAP has been like "Unfortunatly there is no possibility to improve the performance of the reports RASUVAR1 and RASUVAR2 during the upgrade" because this phase does not happen during production downtime.
Did anyone else face similar problem?Hi Kausik,
we recently upgrade our client systems from 4.6c to ECC 5.0, on unix environment. we too faced similar kind of problem, our job_rasuvar1 in prepare phase took almost 70hrs. after raising a msg with SAP, we were asked some correction in function module.."FASU_RS_VARIANT_CONTENTS"..check whether the following changes are already available..or not
<b>the necessary change:</b>
replace the line
PERFORM fill_tables_ps TABLES objects
with the line
PERFORM fill_tables_ps(saplsvar) TABLES objects "CHANGE
in function module FASU_RS_VARIANT_CONTENTS
2) To fix this issue I would recomment, that you stop the JOB_RASUVAR1.
Then please implement the corrections of note 712297. After this please
clear out all the entries in DB tables TASUVCAT, TASUVSVO and TASUVSVD.
You can do thie for example via transaction SE14.
Then implement the following modification to ABAP RASUVAR1:
FORM return_content USING taskname.
RECEIVE RESULTS FROM FUNCTION 'FASU_V_VARIANT_CONTENTS'
TABLES
valutab = gt_params
OBJECTS = gt_objects
EXCEPTIONS
syst_except = 1
communication_failure = 2
system_failure = 3
variant_non_existent = 4
variant_obsolete = 5
error = 6.
g_error = sy-subrc.
g_returned = 'X'.
data: l_count type i. "INSERT MOD
describe table gt_params lines l_count. "INSERT MOD
if l_count gt 20000. "INSERT MOD
g_error = 7. "INSERT MOD
endif. "INSERT MOD
ENDFORM. " return_content
After this you can restart the JOB_RASUVAR1 by just call report
please try with this & let me know. and 1 more thing, this phase again depends on database size (in our case, for 1.8TB it took 6hrs).
with regards,
Raj -
SCM2007 upgrade error in SHDINST_CPY phase of PREPARE in MSCS
Dear all,
we're trying an experimental upgrade from SCM5.0 to SCM2007 on an MSCS cluster (sql server rdbms on a separate cluster).
Currently the SCM5.0 is installed on a multi-SID cluster, with ASCS only in HA, 2 standalone enqueue replicators on the 2 nodes, CI and DIA on the 2 nodes, exacttly as of the manual, and it worked great so far.
Now we're trying to upgrade this clustered SCM instance to SCM2007, and
the upgrade is stuck in SHDINST_CPY phase of PREPARE, with the error:
SEVERE ERROR: copy of O:\usr\sap\put\bin\NTINSTASCS.PFL failed
In fact, the file above (ASCS profile template) doesn't exist in the put folder.
Tried the PREPARE twice, by using a new empty put folder and fresh upgrade media, same result.
So far very little or no support from SAP.
Any hints will be sincerely appreciated.
Franco.Hmm, thanks for the suggestion but that doesn't apply to our case.
Here you see out UpgDialog file with all the events registered. Apart of the error: ERROR: RFC of "subst_get_uvers" failed. (DDIC was locked before), to me it seems pretty clean.

During this module programs, structures, and table entries
required by PREPARE are imported (the socalled "tool import").
Note: This can cause a loss of performance in R/3
In rare cases, a concurrent transport via the transport directory
may disturb the tool import. Please avoid any concurrent import

Error in prepare phase SHDINST_DB_PREP on SQL 20005.
Dear All,
We are currently in the Prepare phase of the upgrade of our SAP systems and have come up against the following security issue.
We are running upgrades to ERP2005. The current database version is SQL Server 2005 with Windows 2003 SP1 where the CHECK_POLICY option is activated by default.
During the SHDINST_DB_PREP phase of prepare the system was unable to create the shadow user because the password was not complex enough.
Apparently the CHECK_POLICY option of SQL Server 2005 is not explicitly deactivated in the upgrade script.
We do not want to disable our Windows password policies but would like to know how to include the CHECK_POLICY option in the scripts for this phases so that we can create the user.
Has anyone experienced this problem and know of a solution??
I have already posted a message to SAP about this issue and am still awaiting a response
Owen.This issue has been resolved:
For those of you who might be confronted with this issue: this is how its done:
Open the file for msstemps.mss in the directory put\bin.
Replac the lines in this file
if (not exists(select name from syslogins where name = '<shadow>'))
exec sp_addlogin '<shadow>', '<password>', '<db>'
through following lines
if ((@@microsoftversion / 65536) / 256 = 9)
begin
if not exists (select * from master.dbo.syslogins where name =
'<shadow>')
create login <shadow> with
password = '<password>',
default_database = <db>,
check_expiration = off,
check_policy = off
end
else begin
if (not exists(select name from syslogins where name = '<shadow>'))
exec sp_addlogin '<shadow>', '<password>', '<db>'
save the file and repeat the phase.
SAP is aware of this issue and wille be releasing a fix for this shortly. -
4.0B to ECC 6.0; SPDD in PREPARE or UPGRADE phase?
Hi Gurus,
I am working on an upgrade from R/3 4.0 to ECC 6.0. I worked on pgrades before but am alien 4.0B. BTW, from a Developer perspective:
1) SPDD adjustments are done in which phase? PREPARE or UPGRADE?
2) Are here special cases where the adjustments need to be done before running the UPGRADE phase?
Helpful Answers will be rewardedHi Karthik
>
> 1) SPDD adjustments are done in which phase? PREPARE or UPGRADE?
>
SPDD is done in Upgrade ->Phase ACT_700
> 2) Are here special cases where the adjustments need to be done before running the UPGRADE phase?
>
At ACT_700 phase stop the upgrade and take a backup of the DB and the PUT<DIR> before starting the SPDD activity.
Make sure there are no pending tp request. Either release them or delete them.
All phase need to be completed successfully in PREPARE, before starting UPGRADE

Hi Gurus,
I have recently installed ECC6 EHP4 ready on AIX environment. We decided to upgrade its ECC 6 components to ECC 6.04/EHP4. I am now in the phase REPACHK2. It show the message
PREPROCESSING - Shadow System Installation
Lock Development
The development has to be locked now!
After locking the development, no one can change any development object until the end of the process.
The problem is the GUI seems freezed/Hang, I could not press back or next. On my research the next phase is LOCKEU_PRE to lock the system.
Other details:
1. I executed topas from the command line and it shows the running application JAVA CPU 90% usage Disk 80% usage. Now I could not tell whether the system is running the phase REPACHK2 or does it still wait for my input.
2. I select high resource during the phase.
3. SAPehpi LOG shows that im currently in REPACHK2 phase.
Please advise what to do?
Thanks in advance,
NewbieHi,
Let me know yr hardward configurations.....!!
Restart the EHPI process again. Again it stops, stop the installtion, restart the entire server again, and restart the installation.

Error in IS_SELECT Phase ERP 6.0 Upgrade
Hello,
I am in process of upgrading SAP R/3 4.7X200 to ERP 6.0 SR3.
During IS_SELECT phase of PREPARE, I am facing following error.
Cannot set current directory to "
SAPTRANSHOST\sapmnt\trans\EPS"
Logon failure : unknow user name or bad password.
The upgrade was started as SAPADM user.
Host file contains the entry " IP Address Hostname SAPTRANSHOST"
DIR_TRANS =
dbsapsdv\sapmnt\trans
Please suggest how to resolve this error. Any help will be highly appreciated.
Thansk,
KathyHello Kathy,
the problem is that the <sid>adm user does not have access rights to
dbsapsdv\sapmnt\trans.
Please check its permissions on this remote server and repeat the phase, it'll work without problems.
Best regards,

Once the prepare is done can we RE-RUN the prepare?
Regards,
Asim Khan.Hi,
Although you can run prepare multiple times but there is some procedure to be followed when doing this,
when running prepare multiple times you cannot run some phases and skip some, there is some dependency between the phases of prepare
you have to run either all the phases again or a set of dependent phases
like
Import & Integrataion etc ...............
for more info on this refer to the upgrade guide and Help.sap.com
Thanks and Regards

Scope of one phase commit optimization?
Hello,
I am unclear about the scope across which Tuxedo XA can optimize the commit to a one phase commit when there is only a single resource involved.
Is it just the process?
Or is it the group (same TM)?
Based on the XA specification, it is the connection that matters. The one phase commit is only possible if a single connection is involved.
However, in the Tuxedo case, the Transaction Manager is shared amongst all the processes in a group. Therefore, the Transaction Manager could be aware that only one Resource Manager is involved, even when the transaction spans multiple processes (within the group). Thus from the TM perspective, a one phase commit would be possible. But then again the Resource Manager would have to support that too.
The context for this is Tuxedo 11, ATMI, XA and Oracle 11g. Some transactions use /Q and DB (requiring XA and two phase commit), other transactions only affect the DB.
Thanks...
RogerHi Roger,
I'm not sure where the idea that one-phase commit is "only possible if a single connection is involved."? Here is the description of the one phase commit optimization from the XA specification:
"One-phase Commit
A TM can use one-phase commit if it knows that there is only one RM anywhere in
the DTP system that is making changes to shared resources. In this optimisation,
the TM makes its Phase 2 commit request without having made a Phase 1 prepare
request. Since the RM decides the outcome of the transaction branch and forgets
about the transaction branch before returning to the TM, there is no need for the TM
to record stably these global transactions and, in some failure cases, the TM may not
know the outcome."
The TM can also get back read-only from an RM on prepare and use that to decide to perform a one-phase commit if there had only been one other RM involved.
IIRC Tuxedo decides to do a one-phase commit if there is only one group involved in the transaction. So if you have two groups accessing the database, I don't believe Tuxedo will perform a one-phase commit, even if the two groups are connected to the same RM.

Todd Little

Please can anyone help me. Spinning wheel on any operation after Mavericks Install.
I would really appreciate anybody's help as I am desperate. Thank you in advance.
After 3 days I have finally got a system running again on my macbook pro mid 2012 but not a without major problem.
I am constantly getting the spinning colour wheel and i can hardly do anything. Booting up in safe mode is fine and I get no spinning wheel.
Briefly what has happened -
4 days ago I decided to make a clean install of mavericks as I wanted to clear the clutter from my hard drive and the fact i was getting a spinning colour wheel very ten minutes for around 10 seconds thus interrupting my work. The download and install kept failing toward the end of installation process. Through recovery mode and disk utility i wiped my hard rive to put on a fresh copy but that left me with no recovery, no OS and it has taken 3 days for me and some help from a guy in the apple community to finally get a system running.
Unfortunately my only internet connection (which i sci-fi) is at a cafe in the small village I live in and I have no access to another mac or internet connection and there is no genius bar or mac tech of any sort near by. So I went through the steps of 'internet recovery mode' which kept failing but after 2 days and hours in the cafe I managed to install mountain lion onto a usb stick. With this I was able to put mountain lion on my system. It seemed fine and I then went onto download mavericks. Every time the installation failed. It takes nearly four hours for it to even download. Last night through endless attempts using the createinstallmedia method i was able to wipe my usb that had mountain lion on and put mavericks installer onto it. So i was left with a usb stick with mavericks installer on it and mountain lion on my macbook pro.
Last night I kept trying to install mavericks via Disk Utility in recovery mode because trying to install it from the usb just wasn't working. after attempts here and there and no luck - In disk utility i saw on the left My apple hard drive and underneath the name of my personally named HD. Below that was a horizontal line and below was a yellow/orange hd with disk02 labelled next to it and one called base system. Below that my usb with install os x mavericks.
This morning, in the cafe I managed to get mavericks working via disk utility in recovery mode. The problem is when i click on finder in the dock, when i try open an app, click on the menu bar - I get the coloured spinning wheel which keeps going for at least two minutes. I fixed disk permissions, run verify disk and everything was fine, started in safe mode and everything is fine. I reset my pram, smc and still i have this spinning wheel when i try do anything . I have my phone with me and its been the only way i can go online to try solve any problem what so ever but as of this moment i have typed and no spinning wheel but if open another tab it will start. I managed to download ETRECHECK and have my results, I also looked at my console which I don't understand but obviously something is wrong. I will post below my results from etrecheck and console, if someone could advice me I would be very grateful.

Steps to Prepare and Sequence the Application:
Phase 1: Prepare vSphere install to be used in your sequence (to be performed prior to sequencing)
Clear %TEMP% directory on machine you are using to prepare the install
Create a folder that will be referred to as "vSphereInstDir"
that install files are copied to
Download the vSphere 5.5 client from your vSphere management server
Run the installer for the vSphere Client
Once at the Language Selection portion of the installer,
using windows explorer browse to the %temp% directory and copy the files that were just created when the vSphere installer extracted to a directory (name it vSphereInstDir)
Kill the installer
Find VMware-viclient.exe in the files you just copied
and run it
Once at the "Welcome to the installation
wizard" stage of the installer, using windows explorer browse to the %temp% directory and copy the files that were just created into the vSphereInstDir
Kill the installer
Find the VMware vSphere Client 5.5.msi in the vSphereInstDir,
in the second set of files you copied over
Using Orca, open the VMware vSphere Client 5.5.msi
Drop the following rows from the msi (some of the rows may have additional text at the end of the names) (InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallHcmon,
InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallHcmon_SetData,
InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSB,
InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSB_SetData,
InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSBArbritrator,
InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSBArbritratorSetData,
InstallExecuteSequence/VM_StartUSBArbSvc)
Save the VMware vSphere 5.5.msi in place
Copy the vSphereInstDir to a network location that
can be used during sequencing on your Sequencer
Phase 2: Sequence the vSphere Client
Pre-requisites: All of the latest available VC++ redist (x64 and x86) are installed on the Sequencer VM
Copy vSphereInstDir to your temporary install directory on your Sequencer (mine is C:\temp)
Start up the Sequencer
Click Create a New Virtual Application Package
Click Next with Create Package (default) selected
Click Next on the Prepare Computer screen, taking
note of any findings
Click Next with Standard Application (default) selected
Choose Perform a custom installation, then click Next
Input the Virtual Application name (vSphere Client
5.5 for example)
Enter the Primary Virtual Application Directory (C:\vSphere55
for example) and click Next
Using Windows Explorer find the Visual J# install (vjredist64.exe) in the vSphereInstDir you copied over. Install using defaults
Using Windows Explorer, find and install the vSphere client using the VMware vSphere Client 5.0.msi located in the vSphereInstDir you copied over.
Change the installation directory to use the Primary Virtual Application Directory you configured above (C:\vSphere55 for example). Install using
defaults
While the sequencer is still monitoring changes connect to the 4.1 environment to get the files needed. To do this, launch the vSphere client and connect
to your 4.1 environment. When prompted, choose RUN to install the files needed for the 4.1 environment.
While the sequencer is still monitoring changes connect to the 5.0 environment to get the files needed. To do this, launch the vSphere client and
connect to your 5.0 environment. When prompted, choose RUN to install the files needed for the 5.0 environment.
With the sequencer still monitoring changes, after the additional environments have been installed, delete all of the language folders from the install locations
that are not required. You will find that there are language folders in each of the different modules that are installed. Make sure look in every folder. This will free up approximately 300mb from the package.
When done, check the box to finish the sequence and continue cleaning up the sequenced application.
Known Issues/Limitations:
Functions that require the USB Arbritration Service will not work
Approximate Sequencing Time:
20 minutes

Can't delete files from external hard drive
So here's an interesting problem that I've never run across. I have a Western Digital hard drive plugged in and I was deleting some files off it today when suddenly it started saying that there were some files in use and it couldn't delete those. I hit "Continue" which usually does the trick but it just deleted everything else and left a bunch of folders with these weird empty files in them. So I quit all programs and tried again. Same thing, "Cannot delete, file in use." Tried rebooting both my computer and the external, again "Files in use." Did a google search, followed numerous suggestions, terminal sudo rm -r +file name, a force delete app, secure delete, holding down the option button while deleting... No dice. When I try the sudo rm thing in terminal it tells me that the folder doesn't exist AND that it isn't empty and won't delete it. (I love computers) When I do a right click->Get info on it, it says that I have read-write permissions but that the files are locked but won't let me unlock them (I'm the system administrator). When I look at the files in finder, it says they're actually aliases. What's really weird is that the file names are all messed up and have asian characters and stuff in them. I didn't create these aliases or have files with those characters in them. Soooo... Any suggestions? Cause I've read the threads and tried just about everything. I'm concerned this drive is headed for a crash or maybe just needs to be wiped and then put my stuff back on cause it's gotten errors over time. I don't know, I've never had this happen before and I'm pretty good with computers. If it was a windows computer I'd be doing a scan disk and defrag on it but I don't know how to do that on a mac to an external hard drive. I honestly don't know if this is a hardware or software problem. Any help would be appreciated.
Oh... well this is interesting... disk utility is say that it IS formatted MS-DOS (FAT32). Is that what's causing these errors? This thing has been running with my mac beautifully for years. So do I pull my stuff off, wipe it and reformat it for a mac? Or since it is FAT 32 can I hook it up to a windows computer and fix the problem? Since I had the wrong format, I can delete the files but if I don't fix the format this will keep happening?

Warning codes generated in UCCHECK - Technical Upgrade - 4.0b to ECC 6.0
Hi SDN'ers ,
I am currently working on Technical Upgrade project from 4.0 b system to ECC 6.0 system . I am facing a
problem relating to the analysis of the warnings displayed whehn we run the UCCHECK for the client inventory by
checking the "Display lines that cannot be analyzed statically" option under the Selection-screen block
"Statements that cannot be analyzed statically" .Based on the warning codes generated during UCCHECK, they can
be classified into 12 different categories given below in the list ( Viz. ABB,MESSAGEG!C,MESSAGEG!D......MESSAGEG!P).The same are given below in the end
I want to know
- Which are the warning codes which need resolution so that the program does not encounter any runtime
errors or during Integration testing ?
- Do all the offset related errors (For example ;variable A = B+offset(length)
or variable A+offset(length) = B ) need resolution so that the program gives no runtime error.
- Also, do all statements where length is calculated using STRLEN also need changes ? I have seen offset length related warnings come under MESSAGEG!M warning code.
The objective of this is to make sure that the upgraded system ECC 6.0 in Australia ,when rolled out to
non-English speaking geographies in APAc such as Malaysia,Japan or China would only need translations and no ABAP Coding effort even when using languages such as Japanese which have double byte characters.

At ACT_700 phase stop the upgrade and take a backup of the DB and the PUT<DIR> before starting the SPDD activity.
Make sure there are no pending tp request. Either release them or delete them.
All phase need to be completed successfully in PREPARE, before starting UPGRADE

Beachballing and "disk0s10: I/O errors" after upgrading to Snow Leopard
Here's my situation: I recently upgraded my iMac (2.93 Ghz Intel Core Duo, 4GB of ram, model id is 9.1) from Leopard to Snow Leopard. I did a basic install (not a clean install), the installation went smoothly, no errors were reported and in less than 40 minutes I was up running Snow Leopard.
But... immediately, on the first launch, after a couple of minutes my Mac started beachballing, leaving it completely unresponsive for like 5 minutes. Afterwards, the spinning pinwheel disappears, my Mac continues running normally, and I don't experience much issues. At first I thought it was a one time thing, probably saving some settings up after the first launch, but... it has been happening every time I start my computer! Every time, it starts up, all my startup programs launch, the desktop icons appear, and then suddenly after a couple of minutes it starts beachballing again.
I now start to suspect there's something wrong. I launch the Console and take a look at the logs. There at the exact same time the beachballing occurs, i find like 3 or 4 subsequent "disk0s10: I/O errors". Now I'm starting to think it's a hard disk issue, so I bring up Disk Utility and check the S.M.A.R.T., it says everything is OK. I verify the disk, and it says everything is OK. Now I don't know what to suspect.
Something tells me it's not the hard disk failing (maybe it's denial), because the problem started happening immediately after installing Snow Leopard. With Leopard I didn't have any problems at all. Also, once the beachballing stops, my computer runs smooth and fast, much faster than with Leopard; and it seems the beachballing and the errors don't happen again until the next restart (though I haven't yet used it for a long period of time since this problem happened like three days ago). Another thing is that I recently transfered like 30GBs worth of files and I didn't receive a single error. Everything seems (as for now) to run perfectly well after the initial beachballing occurs.
So, I'm now facing two options: (1) Make a clean install and see if the problem persists, or (2) Replace the hard disk.
As all of you know, both options are pretty time consuming and annoying, so I really want to troubleshoot everything I can to see if the problem has a simpler solution. What other things can I check? Have any of you had this problem before?
Sorry to make my post so long but I believe the more information you get first hand the better, right? Please, I will really appreciate any advice.OK. Here's what I found out.
When I boot in Safe Mode the problem does not occur (and I discovered why, I'll explain further along). Also, Disk Utility didn't report any errors in either the "Macintosh HD" volume nor the "WINDOWS" volume.
Looking closer at the console errors I noticed a couple of things. Here are the console errors:
6/19/11 4:03:02 AM kernel disk0s1: I/O error.

2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 605.5 GB disk0s2
3: Microsoft Basic Data WINDOWS 34.3 GB disk0s3
As you can see, disk0s1 is the EFI System Partition (ESP) in my Mac. After a little research I found out that this partition is used as a stage for handling firmware updates. I also found out that this partition is not really needed to run Mac OS X. This explains the subsequent appearance of the firmwaresyncd command which, according to the Apple's developer manuals, runs at boot time to synchronize the firmware files from the root filesystem to the EFI System Partition (ESP). Also, it does not run when the system is performing a Safe Boot.
Now this explains why the problem only happens after I boot and never happens again until I reboot. It also explains why it doesn't happen when I run in Safe Mode.
Therefore, the problem I'm experiencing is basically the following:
At boot time the firmwaresyncd command tries to access the EFI partition to synchronize the firmware files from the root filesystem to the EFI System Partition.
It seems that the EFI partition at disk0s1 is either corrupted or inaccesible so the firmwaresyncd command can't access the partition and after a couple of tries throws the input / output error.
Now the next thing I did was to run Single User Mode and run fsck_msdos /dev/disk0s1 to see if I could repair this partition. Unfortunately, I got the following error:
:/ root# fsck_msdos /dev/disk0s1
** /dev/disk0s1
** Phase 1 - Preparing FAT
** Phase 2 - Checking Directories
** Phase 3 - Checking for Orphan Clusters

So that's what I've found out for now.
What do you think I should do now? Should I try to erase and re-partition the disk to see if it solves the issue? Could these errors suggest the disk is about to fail?
I could technically keep using the Mac like this since the EFI partition isn't strictly needed to run Mac OS X and this problem only happens once at boot time (and I do keep a Time Machine backup). But should I?
Any thoughts?
