  • Damaged Zip File...

I am sure this question does not belong here, but I am full of hope someone will be able to help... I backed up an external firewire wire drive to another one, on that drive was about 90GB of music. I zipped it using stuffit and ran the verification process afterwards... all seemed to go well and also the indication was that the file was ok... After installing Leopard, I went back to my backup and tried to unzip it to a different drive and I get an error... I have searched for a zip repair program for OSX and cannot find one. I transferred the file to my windows machine and I am using a program called Zip Repair Pro... It seems to be working just fine, however at this rate it may get it done by 2009... Does anyone know of a program that can repair a large zip file in osx? Also for future reference is there a size limit on backups I should be aware of? Thanks for all and any help....

Be careful so that your back isn't against some brick wall, such as is there enough HD room to unzip the file, and it doesn't come against some other restrictions. Like a FireWire box that chokes on lets say 240GB. (90 GB file + an expected 150GB expanded file. Numbers here are just an example, your mileage may vary)
Problem is I have no clue if your FW box is compliant above 200, 250, 300 or even 350GB. Maybe even the manufacturer doesn't know, but they should.
Unfortunately limits are likely your issue more than a corrupt file. Another likely possibility, Leopard is waiting for Stuffit to be updated. Changing of the Mac OS Guards can do this sort of thing

iMovie projects do not like being zipped. Unless you have the unzipped original you will have to create the project again.
Furthermore there's probably no point in trying to zip it.  Many media formats such as mp3, AAC, mp4, jpeg are already compressed and compressing again just adds overhead (making them bigger) as well as placing them in a format that is hard to recover anything from should something go wrong.

  • Zip files broken - Can't open, getting error

I am no longer able to unzip my zip files.  It was working one day and broken the next.  The zip file icons no longer have a zipper, they simply show as a blank sheet.  When I double click to open/extract, I receive this message:
The document “mydocument.zip” could not be opened. The file isn’t in the correct format.  The document “AmazonS3HowToFull.zip” could not be opened. The file isn’t in the correct format.
This is happening with all my zip files.  New and old.  I have tried reinstalling UnRarX with no luck.
It would seem that zip files are no longer associated with the appropriate app.  I don't know if there was a default unzip app on the Macbook.
There is nothing I can put my finger on that I have done recently or differently that would have caused this change.
    I'm running OSx Lion 10.7.4.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Thank you for trying to help. But I have tried to download the Program MPEG Streamclip as you said but unfortunately it need Quicktime too, the Readme said that there were another program I could use too called Quicktime Alternative. So I tried to uninstall the real Quicktime and install the alternative instead. But either the program MPEG Streamclip can't see that I have removed Quicktime or that I have removed the old one.
Every time I put an .avi file into the program it can only convert about 1:30min of the movie and that is only with the sound no movie, and if I put one of the .MPG (that Itunes can't convert) in an error box pops up and says:
*The Apple QuickTime 6 MPEG-2 Playback Component is not installed...*
Please uninstall QuickTime completely. Then install QuickTime Alternative (1.61 or later), making sure the "Extra QuickTime plugins checkbox is enable.
Alternatively, if you have Apple QuicktTime and you don't want to uninstall it, you can buy MPEG-2 Playback Component from Apple Computer.
I think this is a bit sad cause I just bought the new Ipod Touch and I can't put the movies I like the most.
    Hope someone can help me...
But thanks for the time you used to try to help me QuickTimeKirk

  • Broken: PS script to recursively zips files into one zip file

    Hi
I'd like a script which zips all files and subfolders older than a specified date.
I've have spent a fair bit of time hacking with no luck.
    I'd greatly appreciate any help.
    AJ
PS. This script seems to do the trick -
     $folder = "C:\temp2\"
     $zipFileName = "C:\temp\test3.zip"
     $zip_date = Get-Date "6/5/2014"
     set-content $zipFileName ("PK" + [char]5 + [char]6 + ("$([char]0)" * 18))
     $ZipFile = (new-object -com shell.application).NameSpace($zipFileName)
     Get-ChildItem $folder | foreach {$zipFile.CopyHere($_.fullname)}
However, when I enter where clause  only the top folder is zipped?
    Get-ChildItem $folder| Where-Object { $_.LastWriteTime -lt $zip_date }  | foreach {$zipFile.CopyHere($_.fullname)}

Ps. I'm using script from http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5641162/compress-files-in-folder-to-zip-file-by-using-ps

    Thanks for your sharing =)

  • Unable to unarchive ZIP file Error - 1

Every time I try to archive a ZIP file, i get the message "Unable to archive (Error - 1)" How can I fix this?

I have to agree, the most likely scenario is a bad file. As I mentioned earlier, I don't think there are any Mac utilities for attempting a repair. "Repair" is somewhat vague. If a file is bad it is missing data, and likely this data is critical to the running of the file. If you could repair this file (say, on a PC) you still might end up with a corrupt movie file which might refuse to play. Even if the movie plays it might end early or something.
Could this possibly be part of a multi-part archive set? The file extension is totally wrong for that but the "05" suggest more than one of something.
I have also read there are some obscure utilities that do flavors of zip that can't be opened on Macs.

  • Error reading zip file containing an excel file

    Hi all,
Using servlets I am able to zip an excel file using java.util.zip package. The excel file is created using POI API.
While I save and extract the zip file on my machine and then open the file in MS Excel. Excel pops a message saying "MS Office Excel has encountered a problem and need to close" and it gives me an option to "Recover my work and restart MS Office Excel". I select the option and then MS Excel does a document recovery and I am able to view my data. I get an excel repair log file saying as follows
"Microsoft Office Excel File Repair Log

    Jdcunha,
I am new to the field but encountered the same problem and recently found a solution. Hope this helps.
For my project I wanted to create individual Excel 2003 workbooks for each file I created. Excel would give me the same error it gave you when I used the same HSSFWorkbook object. I tried creating a new Workbook object each time, but ran into the same issue.
I ended up fixing the error by creating a new instance of my write-to-excel class each time I wanted to create a new workbook, instead of just recreating a new HSSFWorkbook object. It works perfectly and the Excel errors don't show. It may also be important to note I used OutputStream, I did not try it with printwriter.

  • Firefox won't download a zip file

There is a chat board that I belong to and they posted a zip file. It looks like a white piece of paper with a folded over corner and says zip on it. When I put my cursor over it, it kind of blows up and then says at the bottom the file name then file.Zip 260K, but I can't click on it to get it to download, save, open, reject, nothing.
I believe I have downloaded zip files in past but for some reason can't download this one.
    Can someone help please.

Are there other similar downloads on the site that do work, such as images, Word documents, etc., or are they all broken the same way?
I wasn't familiar with the ModPlugin extension. Does it operate on the site that has the problem? If so, could you test with the extension disabled? You can do that by restarting in Firefox's Safe Mode, or manually on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
If that extension is not relevant to the site that has the problem, or if the problem continues after disabling it, can you provide a link to the site so someone could check it out?

  • Error while posting .ZIP file

    Hi All,
I am working on file to file scenario.. I want to post .zip file from source to target. I am not using any mapping for this... I m using the Integrated configuration for theis scenario.. We are using sFTP advantco adapter for both sender and receiver.
I am able to post the .zip file with size 50KB only.
If i send .zip file with more than 50KB size, sender channel picked the file but i am getting the below error in the receiver communication channel.
Error: Cannot write content to remote file XXXX: Possible causes: SFTP connection is broken or remote file/directory is in use: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException:  (Software version: 3.0.17)
How to transfer .zip files with more than 50KB size.
    Thanks,
    Soumya.

    Hi Soumya,
I see no reason to use sFTP or  advantco for this.
you can config this scenario using PI regular File adapter, and PI regular File to File scenario.
in your case you just create an empty DT without fields in Repository, you need to create interfaces (OB,IB) for the Configuration
this works for me in many scenarios.

  • Excel 2013 (office 365) crashes every time I opened a excel file directly from Browser or zip file.

    Hi guys,
I got a problem with my Office 365 that every time I open an office file from IE/chrome browser (i.e. click the document link and save the file to local, open it in the browser after download completed) or under a zip file, no matter it is an excel file
or word document, the Excel/Word crashes. The Excel/Word will ask me to repair the file if I open the file again. The file will be closed automatically after the repair, when I open the file again it will told me the excel/word itself has just successfully
registered and ask me to close and re-open the excel again in order to enable editing the file. This is extremely inconvenience, I have to open this file 4 times to edit my file.
Could anyone here can help me to resolve the problem?
    Many thanks.

    Hi,
According to your description, Excel seems not crash when you opened a local Excel/Word file directly. Where do you store these file? OneDrive, SharePoint or other?
If possible, please let me see the screenshot of the error dialog.
Moreover, please open Event Viewer to check whether there's any error about the Excel/Word crash issue.
Press Win + R, type "eventvwr" in the blank box, press Enter. In the Event Viewer, browse to Windows Logs -> Application, there may be some errors after the crash.
To protect your privacy, you may send the error logs to
[email protected], we will try to find the cause.

  • Zip files won't unzip

I have downloaded a couple of zip files, and am trying to use the default Archive utility to unzip them. Instead of opening the files within the zipped folder I'm getting a .cpgz folder with the exact same name... then when I try to open that file it makes a duplicate .zip folder and I just go in circles.
Any idea what the **** is going on?

Go to http://www.stuffit.com/mac-expander.html and download the free Stuffit Expander. Once it's on your machine, drop a zip file onto it, and see if it expands. That will eliminate some possible broken items.

  • Zip files and Adobe Acrobat files

    Hello all,
I have a couple of kinda distinct questions that I wanted to ask. I hope I've chosen the right sub-forum to post them in. My questions are
    1) when I try to unzip a .zip file in my Documents folder I get the following error message
"Archive Utility - unable to unarchive "CdnEnergy.zip" into "Documents". (Error 1 - Operation not permitted.)"
ditto if I move it to the Desktop and try there. This doesn't seem to be a 'space' problem as my computer is very new and I haven't loaded it up with lots of stuff. I have unzipped this file before (admittedly not on a Mac).
    2) How can I set Adobe Acrobat to be the default application for .pdf files so that when I click on a pdf file it's opened by Adobe Reader rather than the Mac Viewer? I know I can select Adobe with a Ctrl+click, but can I set it so that it's always the default?
Thanks very much for your help,
    Eoghan

    Welcome to the Discussions!
The first problem is not obvious, but I would suggest using Disk Utility to repair permissions. Also, you could download the free Stuffit Expander to have an alternate unzip program.
The second problem is easy. In the Finder, select a pdf file and then select File->Get Info. In the window that appears, select the Acrobat as the Open With application and select the option to always use this application.
