Captivate corrupt file

I made a few small edits this morning to a large file I have
been working on for two weeks now and after I saved, restarted my
computer and tried to reopen the file it is now promting me to
overwrite the file or save as before it opens. Doesn't matter what
option i choose it tells me the file is corrupt. I'm really upset
about this. I have done some forum searching and I have tried to
import my main file into a new blank project and i get the same
error. I have reinstalled captivate (btw i'm using version 2) and i
still get the error. Does anyone have any other sugestions to help
me solve my problem or am I just SOL? Thank you in advance for any
solution right or wrong!

Did you originally create the movie in Captivate 1? If so, I
would try to open it in there. The only time I get the
Overwrite\Save As prompt is when I try to open a file I created in
Captivate 1 in Captivate 2. Another thing I would try is opening it
on another machine. I've seen instances where the file would simply
not open on my machine, but did on another colleague's. If this is
the case get them to copy the project into another captivate file,
save it and give it back to you. Like I said, I have seen that work
before, but I can't explain why it happens

Disk Volume Needs to be repaired... corrupt files..

I am using a macbook pro with the latest version of os x 10.6.2
I went on utilities, Disk utilities to verify the disk. After It has been verified..it generated those two message indicating
" The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired."
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
If you could provide me with the procedures to how to boot up from the disk, and get it fix.

Mac 101:
Insert your OS installer disk. Re boot while holding down the 'c' key until you see the cog wheel then release. Select your language. From the Utilities menu select Disk Utility and select your hard drive from the left side column. Then click on Repair Disk. If DU cannot repair the disk you will need a stronger disk repair utility like DiskWarrior.

Captivate 2 files corrupt in Captivate 3

A client is reporting that opening Captivate 2 files in
Captivate 3 corrupts them. They are reporting they become unusable.
Has enyone else seen this?

This is due to a bug in the parameters attached to the bullet settings - if you look on the Text Inspector, Bullet tab - you'll likely see the Text Indent value at the bottom is showing up as "NaN" (not a number). If you set that to zero (or any numeric value), it should revert to a more familiar state. At this stage it looks like this effects any theme/presentation that's Keynote 1.x compatible.
Might not hurt to send a bug report via the feedback page so there's more than just a few of us pointing it out.

Captivate 8 corrupting files

Is anyone else having issues with Captivate 8 corrupting files? This is absolutely ridiculous! Come on Adobe get your act together. Version 8 of the software and we are still having to deal with file corruptions!! Instead of worrying so much about the user interface why don't you ensure that the product actually works correctly?

Lianeng - I was wondering if your company/organization was using Shared Actions?
RodWard, Could Shared Actions be the cause/root of this problem. I ask because we have two teams developing in Captivate 8. The one team is experiencing the growing and worsening Run Time Errors; however, I have a demo file that I've used Advanced Actions, but no Shared Actions and have yet to experience this Run Time Error with that file. It is the only difference I can think of at this time, so am just wondering if this could be the cause and if not using Shared Actions could eliminate this "bug" until Adobe could resolve the issue?? Then again, maybe this has already been considered and ruled out. Just wondering if Adobe can provide any additional data about the Run Time Error - knowns and unknowns that would perhaps allow others to assist with diagnosing and not developing the problem to begin with when creating course materials. Thanks!

Corrupt Captivate 2 File

Is there any way to recover a corrupt Captivate 2 file? Could
renaming the file via file manager have caused the corruption?
Luckily the file was a test demo so it is not a huge loss,
but I would like to avoid this in the future if possible.

Hi chiasurf and welcome to our community
Where is this project? Is it on a LAN? If so, this is likely
the cause of the issue. You should always work with projects on
your local C drive, never on a LAN. Place them there for backup but
always work locally.

Last week I ran my Intego virus barrier scan. It detected a corruted file. If Intego can't repair the corrupted file, what options do I have to repair it?

Basically you want to delete it and if possible replace it with an earlier saved version.

Captivate 5 files keep getting corrupted

Our entire office all got Windows 7 (64 bit) and a lot of coworkers' Captivate 5 files are getting the same error message: the file is unable to open, the file is damage, hard disk not having space, etc.
Are we doing something wrong? If so, how we do correct that?
Or is there some compatibility issue between CP5 and Windows 7??

The Captivate version number is shown at Help > About Adobe Captivate. But you have to be quick because it's right at the top and the list of credits start's scrolling immediately. Annoys the heck out of me.
Having Admin rights to your PC is not the same as Run As Administrator on an app. It's one of the (many) changes to the Vista and Win7 OSs intended to prevent malicious software from gainin a foothold.
If you're in a corporate IT environment chances are you don't have admin rights to your PC because that prevents people from willy nilly installing apps on their own workstations. However, a good IT Support dude (who usually all DO have admin rights to everyone's computer) can usually configure the security privileges for a particular application to give you admin rights to it.
In the case of Captivate 5x and Win7, the app MUST be set up to Run As Administrator. Otherwise some things just don't work.

Computer shuts on and off some corrupted files - no virues now

Listed below are some of the errors I found on event log in the laptop:
I have a Qosimo 8 megs of memory, windows 7 64 bit. Running AVAST 7.0 antivirus and Malwarebytes - both paid subscriptions. I think the model number is 830 530 I bought in 2009.
The shutdown problem has
been happening on and off for the last six months. I had two major instances of trojans taking over my machine and it caused constant shutdowns. AVAST worked with me on one and they had me use malwarebytes and spybot and hijack this. They took over my computer to get it up and running properly, but this new round of errors a trojan was found in the registry key and the startuptoolbar. Two nights ago I had another shut down several times and after running malwarebytes and antivirus I could find no errors so I’m leaning toward corrupted files? Is there anyway to fix these files without having to reformat the hard drive?
I did run a computer repair and a computer memory repair tonight using F8 and no problems were found by the computer. I’m not sure what to do with these errors in event viewer.. I get the toshiba error
quite often and it madely stops me from going online with my internet connection, and I had downloaded a newer version but same problem – I use windows repair in network and the error is always resetting the toshiba network IP. I just put a note into toshiba on that problem.
I also use microsoft silverlight for my fenderfuse application which needs that software operate properly. I’m not sure exactly what to do with that Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. It states to check libraries – but what am I checking for? I do not have a lot of programs on the laptop but not sure what to look for in library?

Sometimes my computer shuts down often on its own and I find a Trojan - other times it shuts down often during a start up and I find no viruses as was the case yesterday. Today I did not get on the internet and the computer worked fine.
I guess I need to know if there is a way to reinstall the corrupted files without having to go back to the default settings when I got the computer. Does toshiba have a windows repair disc that works better then what I did with using F8 and having a system repair and memory check done that found no errors? I also installed the latest Toshiba service station and it did not fix the error problems in events log. Malwarebytes said that by looking at these event viewer logs that it does not appear that I have a virus now but I do have corrupted files and can toshiba help me in getting them fixed. I really hate to do a complete reformat.

I noticed that software protection stopped and then it showed software protection working. I did not get any critical stop errors like I did before but that is because I don’t have any Trojans or viruses. I ran a full scan with both Avast and Malwarebytes yesterday and no problems.

10 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\(this section covered several registry problems I sent the note online and this is what they state: Cause this behavior occurs because the windows operating system automatically closes any registry handle to a user profie that is left open in an application. User Action – this is a warning event the application that is listed in the event detail is leaving the registry hand open, and it should be investigated.
I don't know how serious this probems are - I didn't like seeing the software security being stopped. But then it started up. I have copied everything personal on this laptop so I am ready to reformat if needed.
I still have the problem about IE not opening links unless I right button click to open it. I also had to make a separate ID to run Fender Fuse software as this computer was not recognizing the USB slot where I connect the amp to the laptop. Fender had me set up another id with minimum items and then I was able to connect to the amp and make changes.

External hard drive, error -36, corrupt files and slow transfer speeds

This is a long post but stay with me.
I've got an external 250GB Lacie drive connected to my 24" Intel iMac via Firewire 800. I have approximately 80GB worth of files (including my iPhoto library) on the Lacie that I'm trying to move over to my iMac but have run into some frustrating problems.
Overall, transfer speeds are erratic – fine at times and SUPER SLOW (5 minutes to transfer a 3MB file) at other times. At first I was transferring entire folders, but after always getting errors (error -36 to be exact), I was having to transfer individual files. This works fine as long as the files aren't too big (which makes the transfer speeds SUPER SLOW) and not corrupt (which gets me an error -36). Is my Lacie crashing on me? Is there any hope?
Here's what I've done to try and salvage my sanity with no resolve to my problems (not exactly in this order):
1) Ran Disk Utility to repair Lacie. Everything came back OK
2) Ran Disk Warrior on Lacie. Found a handful of bad items that Disk Warrior was able to repair. Had Disk Warrior replace the old directory of the Lacie with the new directory.
3) Ran Drive Genius: Raired and Rebuilt the directory, did an Integrity Check (came back OK), attempted to Defrag but could not because of errors to the drive, did a Scan for bad blocks (which after running for 3 days! it was only 20% complete and had found over 150 bad blocks, at which point I quit to try something else)
4) Checked that my Firewire cable was properly connected and replaced the older one I was using with a brand new one.
5) Disconnected all peripherals except for keyboard, mouse and Lacie.
6) And at times, even viewing a file on the Lacie has caused my Finder to crash, requiring a restart of my iMac.
I'm sure I've left something off I've tried but you get the idea.
I've read that maybe I can transfer my files using Terminal. Yes/No? Does this bypass any corruption the files may have?
What about creating a second partition on the Lacie and moving files over to the second partition? Does this solve anything? I don't know anything about partitioning so maybe I'm talking crazy.
I've also read that iPhoto tends to corrupt files which makes me hate iPhoto, and myself for not backing up.
And I've read a lot about error -36's and none of it sounds good so I'm just hoping that someone might have other suggestions for me to try and save my files (especially my iPhoto files which include baby pictures that if I lose, my wife will kill me).
So if anyone has any ideas, let me know. Please. I'll try anything.

I am fairly certain you have a bad power supply brick to the LaCie drive. This is a hard problem to troubleshoot as generally when the bricks go bad they do so slowly and the drive appears to power up and stuff but it just doesn't work.
If the drive is under warranty LaCie will replace the brick at no charge. Otherwise they sell them for around $20US on their website.

Interesting. This sort of thing is more common on Windows systems. Taken at face value, one of the iTunes program files (one of the Japanese language resources) is damaged.
I'd try running your Disk Utility over your startup disk. Does it find/repair any damage? If so can you empty your trash and reinstall your iTunes successfully now?

How do I find a corrupt file on my iPod Classic?

I had an iPod Classic which started rebooting itself as I would navigate the menu. At the suggestion of a friend I mailed it to a non-Apple repair shop in Kansas City. I paid $160 for them to install a new hard drive and it was returned to me, but the problem was still happening. The repair shop claimed that I must have a corrupt file on my device causing the issue. My 2nd course of action was to bring it to an Apple store. They replaced the iPod Classic with a new one for $130. (I should have gone to them in the first place.) Brought the new device home yesterday and resynched it. Tested it out for the first time and immediately it rebooted as I was navigating the menu system. This is depressing. Now I am thinking the first repair shop may have been right. But on a 160 GB hard drive that is almost full, how do I find the file(s) that are causing the problem?

In doing some research on the internet I found someone suggest that complicated playlists may be the culprit. The person said he removed his complicated playlists and the problem went away. I am going to try removing all my playlists and see what happens.

Automator (or anything) to mass transfer one file at a time, or skip over corrupted files?

I'm currently recovering files (using Disk Warrior) from a failing hard drive, but when OS X hits a corrupted file ("Error -36"), it cancels the entire transfer, rather than skipping over it. Basically, I have to transfer one file at a time, which, on a 2TB hard drive, is going to be insanely tedious, so I was wondering if there's an automation that can transfer one file at a time, or some other way to transfer files that won't stop mid-process?

in my experience, people who know enough unix to understand what you suggested rarely ask questions about automator. Auto-mechanics don't generally need advice on choosing an auto repair shop.
Applescript is probably the easiest way to go with this. I don't know what the file structure of the recovered documents is, but in general you'd run something like this:

Corrupt file problems installing latest Flash on Windows Vista - help please?!

When trying to install the latest Flash on my Windows Vista (I'm not great with computers so more than the internet system I use I'm not sure what other details are necessary), I keep getting the message "install_flashplayer11x32_mssd_aih.exe - Corrupt File. File or directory C:\$Secure is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility." As I have no idea what the Chkdsk utility is, or how to run it, can someone please tell me how to fix this problem? Apparently I have Flash Player installed on my computer, but not the plug-in necessary to play media files on the internet. What do I need to do to fix this?
