Repair corrupt catalogue in new Lightroom CC?

Can I get some help/instructions on how to repair a corrupt catalogue in the new Lightroom CC please?

Try repairing the catalog. The catalog can be repaired by going to File->Manage Catalogs. Select the current catalog and then repair/optimize the catalog.

i'm running the current version of lightroom. it is giving me a dialog box that says:
temporarily unable to repair corrupt catalog
lightroom encountered problems reading or writing from disk when attempting to repair catalog
the operation may succeed in future attemps
if you wish to try again, please first check available disk space and close all other applications
each time i try, the same dialog box appears.
the corrupt catalog is located on a 1tb drive, 554gb used / 357gb free
what can i do to fix this?

    I presume you don't have a recent-enough catalog backup (?)
I bet you won't let that happen again..
Anyway, depending on what's wrong with the catalog, you may be able to recover develop settings (only) via a plugin called WreckHover (free, by me).
In addition to catalog, settings may be stored in:
    * xmp if you've saved metadata (if not, I bet you won't let that happen again either) - recovered when importing new photos, or reading metadata (Library menu) of already-imported photos.
    * exported versions (if exported with all metadata) - you can recover settings from those via the same plugin: WreckHover.
Note: you'll need to restore a backup catalog first, or start a new one if no backups (really?).
    Good luck,

  • Corrupt catalogue

I am using Lightroom-4 with my photos stored on a network drive.  My number of photos is quite large (perhaps 40,000).  Everything was working well. I decided to add several previous years of photos from backup CDs and was able to download all of these successfully into my Lightroom catalogue (perhaps now totally 80,000 pictures with a file storage of 100GB.  I closed the catalogue to backup the catalogue containg all files, and the backup failed, and a popup told me to close and open the catalogue to repair it. I tried closing and opening LR and ran the repair routime several times and it failed saying that in the download of files from a CD the catalogue was corrupted.  What do I do to repair this catalogue.

I went back to my most recent backup with the intent to parse my large database into component catalogs and add from there so instead of one very large catalog (or about 80K pictures), I would have two catalogs of 40K each.  However, when I went back to my most recent backup (having 55K images) as my starting point, I found the following:  This version ran well; but when I tried to back it up, the optimization routine ran continuously for over 7-hours.  The Windows Task Master showed that LR4 was still running, even after 7-hours. I suspect something is wrong with this backup version and I could go back to the previous backup version (since this one obviously backed up properly, it might be a better starting point to parse build up my database.  Would upgrading to LR5 help?  Presumably LR5 has better repair functions than LR4 (one might hope).   Maybe I need to get paid help from Adobe to proceed in my repairs so I don't inadvertently make matters worse.

  • Cannot repair corrupted catalog.

My Mac crashed in the middle of editing images in Lightroom 5.  It just completely froze (no keyboard lights, no cursor moving, etc.) and had to have a hard shut down.  I didn't get the option to submit a crash report.  When I reopened at first it said it couldn't write to the catalog because it was on an external drive, but the second time I opened the catalog it simply said that it cannot open due to an unexpected error.  I looked online for solutions and I do not have a .lock file in the folder (so it's not that) and when I try to open it while checking for catalog integrity it says to repair it, but then says it is temporarily unable to repair corrupt catalog.  I've tried copying the catalog to a new location to see if that would do the trick, but no dice.  Does anyone have any suggestions!?  I just lost a week's worth of work from my friends' wedding!  Argh!

  • Cannot install new Lightroom.  Keep getting error code 58

Cannot install new lightroom CC.  Keep getting message of error code 58.

It's usually a better bet with a 2330, but I think we'd better check for disk/file damage on your C drive.
The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Yes, you have to find the catalog file from the CC trial (use your operating system to search for it, the file name ends with .LRCAT), and then once you find it, open the LR5 trial and open the catalog you just found using File->Open Catalog

I believe it's the same as most GPS devices. It's accurate within 50 feet.
When I'm home. My devices show up scattered around my property even though they are all near each other

  • Corrupt RAW files in Lightroom 5.

I'm having an issue with corrupt RAW files in Lightroom 5. I have all of my RAW files stored on an external NAS system. Typically, I mainly work on my files on my PC's hard drive. The NAS is for storage only. However, in the past I have looked through the external files with Adobe Camera RAW and have called up files from there to work on, if it's a photo I want to rework. Recently I have started using Lightroom 5. So the other day, I added a folder from the NAS external to Lightroom 5 to look at some of the RAW files. A LOT of the files looked corrupt with white blocks and pink or yellow lines running across the photo. I closed lightroom and pulled up those same files in Adobe RAW and get the same issue. I copied them to my PC's hard drive and still have the issue. This has never happened until using Lightroom. I know Lightroom is not supposed to actually do anything to the files, however, this is very coincidental. Did Lightroom do something to these images, or was it coincidence that the files became corrupt at the same time I started using Lightroom? Any solutions?

I am wondering about the drive. I know that it is not the CF card and it wasn't a reader for the following reasons. I download directly from the camera to the PC without a reader. I downloaded these last July and worked on them on and off for several weeks without issue. I have also pulled up the occasional file from this same batch a couple times this winter without issue. It was only when I pulled them up yesterday in Lightroom that this problem occurred.

I had the same problem earlier today. Sign out of your account for CC in the Preferences panel, close the CC toolbar app. Then sign back in, and the download process might begin in earnest for you. Took me SIX HOURS to download this pig, and now it crashes continually. This software is not ready for release based on today's experience. Hopefully you will at least be able to get to the level of frustration I have arrived at, beyond the level of frustration you are currently stuck at trying to get it to work.I am on the same OS. Too bad Apple abandoned a pro level competitor to LR. Hopefully in the near future they will update Photos so that it competes well with LR.

    Hi 99jon,
Many thanks for that. Had been going through this list yesterday and now again today:
Ref  Solution 1: Lightroom is at its latest update
Ref  Solution 2: It's interesting how I cannot find the Preferences file anywhere on my mac. (new mac pro, OS 10/9.2) . . .
Ref  Solution 3: Lightroom doesn't allow me to do anything after the error message appears
Ref  Solution 4: don't have any Nik Software plug-ins
Ref  Solution 5: checked permissions and changed all to "Read & Write" - makes no difference
Ref  Solution 6: I don't have a different user account on my mac.
Not sure what else to do.

  • How to repair corrupt MS Excel 2003 (XLS) File?

I have important MS Excel file data and unfortunately got corrupt due to virus attacks, so my crucial Excel sheet got lost, how to repair corrupt MS Excel 2003 (XLS) File? If have any solution please assist me.

A corrupt excel spreadsheet can be repaired by using Open and Repair technique. It is a built-in repair function that opens a corrupt excel file forcefully.
*Open MS Excel > press Ctrl+O > locate corrupt excel spreadsheet and select it.
*Click on the arrow shown beside Open button > select Open and Repair.
It will take just a few seconds to be completed and selected file will be opened, if possible.
Or if this doesn't work, one may take help of a third-party Excel Recovery software. I would recommend
Excel Repair Kit software to recover data from corrupt excel spreadsheet. The software is available with free demo version. To read more about this software and to download its free demo version, visit: http://www.excel.repair/
