Repair Disk on disk util doesn't work

Onyx maintenance indicates my startup disk requires repair.
When I reboot from my system DVD and attempt the repair I get the following dialogue
" Verify and Repair disk - eMac HD.
Checking HFS Plus volume
Checking Extents Overflow file
Checking Catalog file
Invalid extents entry
Volume check failed.
Error: the underlying task reported failure on exit.
1 HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error."
I've never encountered the term "extents entry" before.
Any idea what the problem could be? What fixes might be available?
So far all is working, but I'm waiting for the problem to leave me without the ability to continue working with this machine.
I am backed up.
Any help appreciated.

You must repair the HD, if Disk Utility or fsck should fail to repair it, your best bet is DiskWarrior from Alsoft, you'll need the CD to boot from if you don't have another boot drive...

  • Wrap utility doesn't work on Trigger

    Hello Experts,
I want to encrypt the code in trigger on database by using wrap tool. I type this one below:
    wrap iname=TRG_INSERT_BB_TEMP.trg oname=TRG_INSERT_BB_TEMP_wrap.trg
It doesn't work on my side. Or is it true, that such wrapping doesn't either on trigger?
Is there any other Oracle Utility?
    regards,

The wrap utility does not obfuscate the source code for triggers, but you can create a trigger who calls a wrapped procedure.

  • Satellite M40-307: Accessibility utility doesn't work with limited user account

    Hello everybody,
I have got a Satellite M40-307 (PSM44E), and I have got a problem with the "accessibility" utility, that displays an icon in the Windows XP notification bar, to let the user know whether the "Fn" key is active or not.
That this utility would not work for the administrator would not worry me a lot, as the administrator is supposed to know what he does. But the limited user does not have access to it, this more bothering.
In an administrator session, this utility works pretty fine. But in a limited user session, if I try to launch it by [runas /user:admin "C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Windows Utilities\TACSPROP.exe"],
I am answered that the file TCMSVR.DLL cannot be found. If I launch it normally, a message tells me that this utility requires I am connected as an administrator.
So, what can I do to use this utility normally, i.e. in a limited user session*?

    Hello Markus,
    Did you read ?
I executed TACSPROP with the admin rights, and it does not run.
So, to follow you, I had a look, on TACSPROP.EXE and TACSPROP.DLL, the users had "read/execute" and "read" rights. I provided "full rights", and it solved nothing.
Obviously another program must be launched before, that is by default launched only by the administrator, and I am searching what program it is.
    Thank you.

  • Erase button on Disk Utility doesn't work

II'm trying to erase my external HDD so I can use it to restore a backup of my HDD , since there's a problem with my HDD  and my MacBook Pro is stuck on startup, but the erase button (is not grey, it looks functional) doesn't respond. I press it and nothing happens. What can I do? I need to backup my files ASAP

Connect the external drive to another mac ( a friend maybe?) and re-format it using that.
I'm not 100% clear on what you're trying to achieve here, but it sounds like your MacBook HDD is corrupted. Make sure you've tried repairing the HDD using disk utility in the recovery partition. This will tell you if the disk is usable. It may repair it and return your system to normal operation.
If your HDD is corrupted or damaged you may have trouble backing it up to the external drive anyway.
Personally I would remove the HDD, replace it with a new one and re-install OS X onto it. While you're out getting a new HDD, pick up a SATA to USB drive caddy that will allow you to connect the old HDD to your new restored Mac via USB. If it's readable then you should be able to copy data off it.
Your ability to re-install to a new hard drive will tell you if the problem was with the old HDD or with the Macbook itself.
If the old HDD is not readable you may have lost your data, or you may need to go to a professional data recovery service. This is why backups are essential. I would recommend using your external drive for backups with Time Machine.

  • MAC- EOS Solution Disk 29.0A Installer Doesn't Work

Hi All-  I am running Mac OS X 10.9 and just downloaded the EOS Solution Disk 29.0A image from Canons website. The image verifies and extracts properly. When I launch the ksd290A_installer it appears to extracts files but then nothing else happens. No errors, no installer, nothing else happens, nothing.. Please advise?

Mike, bsorgI had verified and repaired the disk permissions but that didn't resolve my issue.  It is still something with the user account, I just don't know what it is. After installing the EOS Solution Disk 29.0A Installer on to a different account (with Admin rights), and logged back into my normal user account the software was all available for my use.  This may be a work around for bsorg also.  I would like to figure out why this didn't install under my normal user account.  I wonder if it has something to do with upgrading from 10.6.x to 10.9.x, perhaps that is where the corruption took place. Good Luck bsorg!!Thanks Mike for your response!!

  • 2008 Airport Express utility doesn't work all of a sudden, name reverted to ID, lost security, message not supported.

The Airport Express I purchased in 2008 worked fine this morning, but when I tried to use Wi-Fi with my cell phone and iMac the light was green on the AE but no signal.  I unplugged AE and unplugged my modem, plugged in my modem, plugged in my AE, it turned green but no signal - that is, the name I had given it did not appear on either my iMac of cell phone.  Then, out of the blue, the original ID for my AE shows up on the iMac and phone and when I selected it my Wi-Fi worked, and is working.  The problem is there now is no security.  I got a message that Airport Utility did not support or something like that.  So then I took the old CD that came with AE (in 2008) and loaded that on my iMac so I could re-establish WPA security.  It seemed to load okay but then the following message popped up, "AirPort can't be installed on this disk [my Macintosh HD]. The version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported."  Well, yes, since I'd purchased my AE I'd gone through all the cats and recently had upgraded to Mountain Lion, 10.8.5, several weeks ago.  But since this morning I had done nothing new.
So, it's 12:30am, Apple Care is not open - I'm not even sure I'm still covered - so maybe some night owl out there can tell me what I need to do.  I'm beginning to suspect it might have to do with my operating system upgrade, but don't understand why this problem should suddenly crop up after several weeks.  Any ideas out there?  Oh, and incidentally, my AE was cutting off a lot about a year ago and I took it into an Apple Store and they did something with the software in the device and the cutting off improved but still would occur at least twice a week - something I just lived with.

Then, out of the blue, the original ID for my AE shows up on the iMac and phone and when I selected it my Wi-Fi worked, and is working.
My first thought is that the AirPort Express is normally good for 4-5 years on average, so you may be getting some signals in that regard.
The AirPort Express reset itself back to factory default settings. The big question now is if you re-configure it again whether it will hold those settings.  Not likely....my opinion.
The other problem that you have is that Mountain Lion operating system no longer supports the older version of the AirPort Express that you have.
Oh, and incidentally, my AE was cutting off a lot about a year ago and I took it into an Apple Store and they did something with the software in the device and the cutting off improved but still would occur at least twice a week
It's really time for a new AirPort Express, which will offer much faster reliable performance....and it will be compatible with AirPort Utility on the Mountain Lion operating system.

  • Laser jet professional utility doesn't work (Mac OSX 10.7)

I've been having connection issues with my LaserJet P1102w lately so I decided to try to set it up for wireless connection (instead of USB). I found that the Ulitity (HP LaserJet Professional Utility), when launched, doesn't do anything.
The application has a generic application icon. It shows "HP LaserJet Professional Utility" in the menu bar, but no window opens up, and there are no options under the menu.
I have tried removing the utility and reinstalling. I have updated the firmware through an update. I have used Apple's Software Update to update the drivers. However, nothing happens when I launch the utility.
    I'm running Mac OS X 10.7.5.
    Ideas?

    Hi @bldxyz ,
I see that you having issues with the Utility not opening, to setup the wireless network on the printer. I can help you with this.
Make sure Safari is set as the default browser. (sometimes the EWS won't open if it isn't set as the default)
Open Safari, across the top select the Safari menu, select Preferences, General, set as default.
Reset the printer first to clear out any previous network settings.
Turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and cancel (x button) while turning the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise.
Print out a configuration report and make sure the SSID and IP address are cleared.
Printing a Configuration Page. Select Method two.
Leave the USB cable connected. Delete the printer from Printers and Scanners and add the printer back in again.
    Try accessing the Utility again.
If you are still having issues opening the Utility, please do the following.
    Close any applications.
On the Apple menu bar, click Go, Computer, MAC harddrive, Library, Printers, HP, LaserJet, click on folder for your printer, click on EWS browser or HTML config, it should open up the Embedded Web Server for the printer to configure the wireless, then click the Networking tab, click Wireless on the left and fill out your information. (make sure infrastructure is selected and alpha or numeric is chosen) Apply settings.
You should get a solid blue light on the printer in about 1 minute.
Then delete the USB driver and add the network printer:
    Click on the Apple.
    Click System Preferences.
Click the Print and Scan icon.
Highlight the printer and click on the - sign to delete the printer. (USB driver)
    Disconnect the USB cable.
Then click the + sign and select the printer from the list and click add. (P1102w Bonjour)
    Test the printer.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a wonderful day!
    Thank You.

  • Apple Loop Utility doesn't work

    Hi everyone,
I've been a GarageBand user for a while now and have been able to create custom loops with the Apple Loop Utility/Soundrack Loop Utility. The main problem is, that the version that I have (was using version 1.1, then downloaded version 1.3.1) won't work on my computer now, yet it did previously. When I try to launch the loop utility, a message pops up saying that 'Apple loop utility has quit unexpectedly. Click reopen to relaunch the application again.' So I did, and it still won't launch.
At that time I was using MacOS X 10.5.3, and now have recently upgraded to MacOS X 10.6.3. Is the program not compatible with Snow Leopard or intel Macs?
    Thanks
    Jamie

Well, I have never used version 1.3.1... (seems to be fairly old, regarding the number ?)
The download from the Apple Developer Website should be version 3.0.1...?
    (have you tried that one...?)
    http://connect.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MemberSite.woa/wa/downloads
As far as I know, only version 1.4 should work natively with Intel Macs...?

  • Why my DBMS_OUTPUT utility doesn't work

This is the first time I use DBMS_OUTPUT utility in AIX. I did not get anything printed on my screen. Do I miss anything before I use it? Please help!!

    1) This is the wrong forum. You want "General" or something.
    2) To use DBMS_OUTPUT, you can use DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Message.');
    3) To actually view the output, "SET SERVEROUTPUT ON". (It's OFF by default.)
In case you really don't get it, here's an example:
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON
    BEGIN DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Hi.'); END;
The output will be something (rougly) like this:
    Server output set to ON.
    Hi.
    PL/SQL Block Finished Execution Successfully
    Hope it works.

  • Lost password and password reset utility doesn't work.

Kind of embarassing, but a couple of days ago I decided that it would be a good idea to change my password at three in the morning. Gah!
I tried using the password reset utility, but it would simply crash upon selecting my drive. I ran it from the terminal and it says that it's getting a bus error. I tried using passwd from single user mode, but it seems as though Apple has decided that that is a bad thing. Same goes for trying to run it from the terminal on the install disc.
What do I do now? Getting my files back won't be a problem, but I won't have the equipment to do that until I go home, and there are still a couple of weeks left in the semester. Being stuck using my guest account really *****!
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

This will give you root access to your computer:
    1) Reboot into single usermode (Hold "Cmd" + "S")
    2) At the Console # type:
    fsck -fy
    - This should come up OK after a minute, if not run it again
    3) At the Console # type:
    mount -uw /
    4)At the Console # type:
    nicl -raw /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb -createprop /users/root authentication_authority ";basic;"
    - The above should be all on 1 line (this might format it to wrap a line)
    5) At the Console # type:
nicl -raw /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb -createprop /users/root passwd
    - This will reset the root password
    6) At the Console # type:
    reboot
    7) You can now login with the username root

  • UCCX 7.01, fresh install - SQL Reuse Utility doesn't work

I am installing a fresh copy on UCCX 7.0 on two 7845 servers. As per the uccx70ig, after installing UCCX, before reboot, you install SQL. I have an MS SQL 2K CD from 4.0(5a), I installed the SQL Reuse Utility (SQLUtilTool.exe, v2.0.3) in the appropriate directory. After the "disable CSA", etc messages, I quickly get a message that the SQL install failed, look at C:\WINNT\setup.log for messages.
There is nothing in there to indicate the problem.
Anyone had this issue before? Thanks.

Thanks, Anthony. The ZIP file, v2.0.3 was downloaded and expanded into a C:\SQL2K directory as per the instructions. The C:\WINNT\setup.log file that the failure message pointed me to shows the following:

    Version=v5.00.000
    File=Log File
    [Status]
    Completed=2
    [ResponseResult]

    Hello everyone,
My macbook pro 15" suddenly turned off. Now i tried several time to switch it on and seems it is working but the display doesn't function or there are many wired pictures coming up sometimes.
can anyone please help me with this issue?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Your Mac can't find any bootable partition.
    1. Insert the Mac OS X DVD that came with the Mac and press C key while your Mac is starting.
    2. Select Utilities > Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair the disk. If it doesn't work, take the Mac to an Apple Store.
Also, open  > Startup Disk, select Macintosh HD and restart. Maybe your Mac has forgotten the startup partition

    Can someone help me?
I was using my Ipod Video 30gb and it froze, so I reset it and it showed a sad Ipod icon with a "!" beside it.
After I went to the guide and tried to restore it but when I plug it in (to my windows XP laptop) it is not shown in itunes, my computer, Ipod updater or anything:(
I've tried to put it into disk mode, but that doesn't work either! I think I need to restore it but it won't show up.

i'm having the same problem. there are a couple other things u can try, which didn't work for me but worked for other people, maybe you too. one thing that seems to work A LOT is to drop it flat onto a hard surface, say onto the desk from 6 inches -- or to give it a smack on the side, not TOO hard but enough to let it know you mean business. It often just starts right up. If that doesn't work you can open it up and disconnect the hard drive for 5-10 minutes -- there is also a manual reset button on the hard drive on some models (not mine, maybe yours). The best posting I've seen on how to do all this is here:
