Repair library stalls at same place

created my first vault .... ran all night.... no progress after about 70%.....forced quit.... restarted....library repair necessary....stalls at 60% every time...what now?  Half a vault on external and library won't repair.  Thanks.  PS. Aperture has worked well for me for about 3 years.

what is the shortcut keys to rebuild?
Select the library and hold down the key combination ⌥⌘ firmly, while double clicking the library to launch Aperture. From the panel select "Rebuild Database". You could also do a "Repair permissions", while you are at it.
i ran upgrades on my Adobe Creative Cloud programs - CS, Bridge, and LR.
Are these upgrades compatible with Mt. Lion?
Deleted a bunch of images to clear up some hard drive room.
Can it be that this delete accidentally deleted image files that are part of your Aperture library? Referenced originals, or a search, that included the Aperture Library?
Sometimes "Repair" does not succeed, when the library contains incompatible videos or corrupted images.
The vault I designated was on a relatively free partition but on the same drive as my library.
Is your drive formatted MacOS X Extended (Journaled)? How is your drive connected?
If you are worried, if your drive might be failing, open it in Disk Utility and use the First Aid panel to check the drive.

  • My Itunes library is skipping some songs which is also affecting my ipod, it is always the same songs that skip at the same place, it is not all songs.

Since moving my Itunes to a Vista, it found songs that I downloaded a long time ago and added them to my library but now some songs (not just the ones that were lost in apple land) are skipping after playing a few seconds then it moves onto another song.  The same songs are skipping at the same place when played on a computer and also my ipod.

i noticed this as a bug in iTunes. make sure the correct file is selected in the preferences menus. It does not have to be the default location directiory as Vazandrew stated. your iTunes music library can be anywhere you want it. i have mine on an external cuz i'm a dj and have over 80,000 songs.
once you select/verify the location of your music library, simply drag the folder into the left panel in iTunes from a finder window. iTunes does not automatically add the items like it use to for some reason.

some audiobooks skip to the next book in the same place when played on headphones. However when hooked to the computer it plays normally.

As suggested try different media (Memorex is not very popular around here, Verbatim more for +R, Taiyo Yuden are recommened, -R usually) and test on a few players. Cheap players can drive you nuts. Good for testing but you will get some that start going bad quickly. Of course when you can get a DVD to run on bad players it is a good sign...but...

  • Hi All, I have question about the iMac operating system. I have the last updated. The problem when I manage the place of the folder windows they are all mixing up. I mean they not on the place where I left them. how to set they stay on the same place. Tks

Hi All, I have question about the iMac operating system. I have the last updated. The problem when I manage the place of the folder windows they are all mixing up. I mean they not on the place where I left them. how to set they stay on the same place? I know there are different possibilities to set.
I tried but it not helped for me. What I can do? How and where can set this they stay on their place?
    Thanks.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • How to share the i-Photo Library on the same i-Mac with 2 Accounts?

I am using a iMac running OSX 10.8.4. there are 2 accounts, mine and my wife's. we wish to be able to share the i-Photo Library on the same computer. So I copied the i-Photo library from my Library folder to the Users Shared folder and then deleted the original i-Photo library in my Library Folder.
Now when I or my wife go to open i-Photo in either Account we get a message saying that the i-Photo Library is being exaimed and then tthen tells us there is a problem reading or accessing some files within the Library. It then asks us if we wish to Repair the Permissions. If we tell it to repair the permissions it does so and opens up and we can use i-Photo. If I swap  to my wife's  account I get the same problem. I repair the permissions and I can then use i-Photo within her Account.
But when I swap back to my Account and try open i-Photo again I get the same problem. And the same happens if I go back to my wife's Account again.
What can I do to remedy this problem?? Thanks

Hi Neil, I have carried out the process you described, so I have a new mounted Image on my hard drive called Storage. I have moved the i-Photo library to this Storage Image and ticked the box which says ignore permissions and ownership. But now when I go to open i-Photo in my account or in my wife's account it says it cannot access the library because the volume is locked. But I can't see it being locked??
    Please help???

  • How to keep desktop folders in the same place?

I use an iMac (with Mac OS X V.10.6.6) and I have some folders and files on my desktop. However, lately after I shutdown my iMac and start it again, all the folders and files on my desktop move and scatter. I want to keep them in the same order that I originally arranged. How do I keep them in the same place? Is it normal for them to move around after shutdown?
It´s a new iMac (with about 6 monts old) and it only appens sometimes...
PS. I don't want to sort them out by name or date modified or anything like that. I just want to keep them in the same order that I put them.

As this oddity strikes also on my machine, I wrote this script.
    --[SCRIPT récupérerrestaurer_positionicônes]
    --=====
Save the script as an Application Bundle (Application under 10.6.x) : récupérerrestaurer_positionicônes.app
Install it in the Dock for easy access.
Select Desktop's icons whose location must be reset when needed.
    Run the script.
Click the button "Get there position".
A text file containing the datas linked to these icons will be created in the folder defined according to the property 'dest'.
Default location is : "<startupVolume>:Users:<userAccount>:Library:Application Support:".
Run the script and click the button "Reset there position" to move the icons back to their original location.

  • Iphoto 11 repair library stuck at 94%

I've been having trouble with iphoto 11 hanging and not quiting without force quit. So I decide to try to repair library database (alt command) and I let it run all night and never got past 94%. Tried again and stalled at 94%. I created a new library and imported 2 photos but could not quit that one either. latest iphoto 11.
    -Erich

Are you able to run the library normally? Is it only the rebuilding that's giving you problems. Instead of rebuilding with all options selected backup the library and try the three fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.
    Fix #3
Rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • AP3 - Repairing Library - 0% Complete

After a week and a half of trial and error, I finally have my AP3 libraries up and running for the most part. However with the larger of my libraries (50GB library file size, library located on internal hard drive, all masters are referenced to an external drive) I do have an image that displays the correct thumbnail, but the image that shows in the browser (both at full screen and browser view) is the incorrect image. I am trying to repair my library via the command+option command when starting up aperture, however when I select Repair Database, the Repairing Library Database status bar comes up, but does not move from 0% complete. I am going on about 15 minutes at 0% complete right now. Activity monitor shows nothing abnormal, and shows most of my memory free with aperture using very little (147.1mb).
Has anyone had any luck with the Repair Database option? I have had luck in the past with rebuilding library, at least as far as getting it to actually go through the whole process..but it appears the Repair Database option just will not work for me. Anyone else?
also curious if maybe this is just because it is a huge library that it may take a while. when i run the Repair Datbase option on a sub-library that I exported out of AP3 from my iMac and moved to my MBP it runs without fail.

im having the same problem, i leave the repairing library database open for a whole weekend and... 0%
but I can't access my library at all, it fails to open.
i have 6 libraries most of them are pretty large.
4/6 of them wont open and wont repair ( 0%)
I am storing my libraries on a 6TB Drobo over 800
I upgraded to aperture 3.0 and converted my libraries and they worked... (slowly) for a while, and then this happened.

  • String objects with the same string pointing to the same place but?

    Hi,
    Here is a simple sample
    String str1 = "a";
String str2 = "a";I understand that in Java str1 and str2 pointing to the same place in memory and Java compiler wouldn't save the string "a" in two different places in memory. Am I right?
If so, if the value of str1 changes to something else as following:
    String str1 = "a";
    String str2 = "a";
str1 = "b";why str2 which has been pointing to the same place as str1 before is still containing ?a? and not ?b????
    Thanks!

Before the recent updates to Firefox, when I would go to another page in the same window and then clickon the back button, Firefox used to bring me back to the same place on the page where I had been, but now it brings me to the top of the page, meaning that I have to laboriously scroll down to the old place. How do I restore the previous feature?

That change was made in Firefox 4, 6 months ago.
    Click-hold the unified Back / Forward button <br />
    or <br />
right-click it to get the Back / Forward history for that tab.
Or install this extension to get the old "drop-marker" button restored. <br />

  • Aperture repaired library, now it says there's an error in the library and doesn't open it

I'm running Aperture 3.2.3, and the following happened:
I'm keeping my library on an external harddrive. As I had the library open in Aperture, the external hardrive got accidentally disconnected. I quit Aperture, reinserted the external harddrive, and reopened the library. Aperture told me that it detected inconsistencies in the library and that it would repair it. After finishing the repair process on the library, I tried to open it and got the following message: Warning, there is an error in the database of the library, and only gives me the option to quit the program.
    What can I do?

Hold down the option and command keys while you start Aperture this will open the library repair window. Select Repair Library, see if that clears the problem.
BTW what format of the external disk that the library is on?

my aperture won't open and says "repairing library database"  even when it gets up to 100% complete it just suts there frozen and won't open to the aperture screen

How many Images?  How much storage space does the Library occupy?  Do you have plenty of free space on your system drive?
Ignore the progress bar — it's often stuck, and therefore unreliable.
Ignore Activity Monitor reporting Aperture "Not Responding".  This is, imho, a bug Apple should have squashed years ago.
Repairing (or doing any operations an entire Library) a large Library can take hours or days.  You did not report what you did to get past 79% — I'm going to guess you Force-quit Aperture.  Force-quitting any database is always a bad idea and should only be done as a last resort.  Each time you force quit, you are likely adding to your problem.
Restart the rebuild, and let it run, unmolested, for at least 40 hours.  IME, at some point the progress bar with jump to 99%, then 100%, and then stay there for perhaps a few more hours, and then it finishes.
I have _never_ had a repair or a rebuild (I have not had to do many rebuilds) _not_ finish.  One took about 82 hours, but it finished.
If your Library is small — say, fewer than 100,000 Images _and_ smaller than 100 GB — and you're seeing these very long rebuild times, you likely have an actual problem — but the only way I know to find out is to let the rebuild continue.  (I don't store any but small video in Aperture, and very few of them, so my numbers may not correspond to Libraries that store videos.)
Did you notice any other problems before Aperture itself recommended rebuilding?
In short: let it run unmolested.
