Repair Permissions and they don't repair

Everytime I repair permissions using the disk utility it says that the permissions are repaired, but then I click to verify permissions and it is all as it was before... What can I do?

yes, the problem is that the file permissions are very odd. It all started when I migrated the files from one mac to another, the permissions shown are like this:
That first everyone is a broken permissions and the disk utility never fix it. I have to authenticate to delete this files and it is boring me a lot.
If i change that first everyone to whatever privilege it is, the file is "fixed" but it would involve changing like five thousand times, and it will not be pleasant.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:

Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

I see that I have a particulier abonnee of my ISP , which has closed all the ports for security reason and they don't want to open any of it 80,443 ect.
suppose If I want to use Essential server 2012 how I can solve this problem , essential wants domain name whith A record.
I asked DDNS service provider if I lease from them a domain name whith A record would that help to open or manipulate the port 80,443 they said that I have to solve this problem myself . they lease only domain names with dynamic dns records.
so what can be a solution the ISP provider won't open this ports , how I can solve this problem . domain name with ip adres is not helping so what it's go to help?

The domain name in this instance is only used for remote access, and is seperate from the active directory domain name.
If your ISP blocks port 80 and 443, and you dont intend to use remote access anyway, the wizard will likely not complete successfully whether you have a valid domain name or not.

There are no robots here. Everyone here is a "real person", a user just like you. How about telling us what the problem is that you are experiencing when you try to buy a song? If you mean that you have forgotten your security questions, go to:

If you've forgotten your answers, there should be a link just under the security questions fields where you can have a reset email sent to your Rescue email address. I bought two audiobooks and they don't list under audiobooks in FrontRow

Hello, I bought two audiobooks and they don't list under audiobooks in FrontRow. They list in the iTunes, but when you go to itunes you just see one of them under audiobooks, but you don't see the other under audiobooks, you just see it under artists as a normal song.
Does anybody knows how to solve this? Can I touch any properties of the files to make it list under Audiobooks properly?

You might just have to "get info" on the audiobook. By right clicking on the audiobook title you then click on "get info" then entering all the appropriate information it should list it where you want it.

It sounds like you are trying to send emails but for some reason, thousands show activity. I would start by re indexing the mailbox to help troubleshoot the issue:
1.Quit Mail if it’s open.
2.In ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData, delete any file that begins with “Envelope Index,” such as Envelope Index or Envelope Index-shm.To show your home Library folder, hold down the Option key, then in the Finder choose Go > Library.
3.Open Mail.Mail creates new Envelope Index files. This process may take a few minutes, depending on how many messages Mail is reindexing.

If the issue persists, I would next remove the account, restart the computer, and re add the account:
1.Choose Mail > Preferences, then click Accounts.
2.Select an account, then click Remove.

Removing an Exchange or IMAP account doesn’t permanently delete the account’s mailboxes and messages because they’re stored on the mail server. To retrieve the account’s mailboxes and messages from the server, add the account again in Mail.
To add the account again, click the rather than the as described above and retest the issue.

I would recommend that you either get a PCMCIA card that provides a serial port, a USB-to-Serial converter or just "lent" a system with a serial port. Usually current notebooks aren't equipped with a serial port.
The TIP connection works only if the network is configured (after the operating system is loaded).

What happens when you rent movies and they don't play and you tried getting credit for it? I rented two movies which they were very very old movies in black & white and they both don't play. I never had this problem before even when downloading videos. Now how can I get credit for it? I contact itunes a number of times and no one has done nothing as of yet. Itunes also asked me for my order number which I sent them but still no credit.

ITunes 6... and they don't get it!

10 minutes ago I installed iTunes 6
because I hoped that it has better functions regarding the Musiclibrary.
(I have a lot of mp3's and they need to be organzed.)
What I am missing:
1. if I click "import folder into library" (using german version so the real name is another maybe)
iTunes just looks for new songs but there is no way that all changed songs (ID3-Tag, etc) gets updated automatically
I think this is a function which MUST be included if I design a database and I think it is not to hard to look on every music file when it was changed the last time and if it was changed to import it again.
Btw. EVERY other Musicplayer is able to do that (example Winamp and even MS Windows Media Player)
2. There must be a way to define some folders which should be scanned every XX minutes if there are new or updated songs.
This is also not so hard to do (if 1 is done and the Apple people are not stupid) but they dont integrate such a feature
3. a way to remove all dead songs.
yes I know there is a Script to do that but
this is also a default feature which MUST be integrated
(btw. I need an option which disables the automatical deletion and allows me to start this function by myself: as you can see it in winamp; because of external Harddisc with music)
4. I do have the iPod nano - but more than 4GB of Music on my PC. I do use a dynamic playlist to organize the music which should be on my iPod (btw every song marked with two stars) but this list is also bigger then the space on the iPod.
I get a warning that the iPod can't get synced and then nothing happens.
-> The iPod should now be filled till there is no space more available (randomly)

the user should make more then one dynamic lists and is able to organize the individual importance of every list.
then the most important list gets copied now the second most [and so on..] now we have around 3.9GB on the iPod the last list is synced with random songs till the 4GB are full.

This is known as "Watch Folders" and general consensus seems to be that they refuse to add it because they think it "promotes piracy".

I don't see why it needs to be integrated. The scripts work well enough. If you use the thing right, you never get dead tracks anyway.

So you can't fit 10 gallons in a 5 gallon hat? Well, I would prefer that it not try to do something stupid and waste my time doing that, but instead let me decide what to do in such a situation. Much like it does now.

This is by design. All Playlist editors ever made allow this. Preventing it would quite annoying, actually.
introduce a new feature: TAGS

now the user is able to list every tagfolder and what do you see: every file is just once a time in the list
Use the Grouping field for this. Or the comments field. Then make a smart playlist that says "Grouping contains party" or what have you. Works great.

This is a FoxyTunes bug. They need to implement the iTunes "About to Close" callback and have it disconnect from iTunes correctly when they receive it. This would prevent this message from appearing. Complain to FoxyTunes.

That's the feedback page. At the bottom, see how it says "Send Feedback"?

That's because you put the video window into the background. Click the window in the taskbar to bring it back up.
