Repair permissions error.  SUID file has changed and will not be repaired?

I repaired permissions tonight and I get the error message quoted below.
I don't understand the warning around the SUID file. I don't know if I should be concerned about this or what this file does. Any information or advice?
Thanks.
Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
Reading permissions database.
Reading the permissions database can take several minutes.
Permissions differ on "System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.usbmuxd.plist", should be -rw-r--r-- , they are -rwxr-xr-x .
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/OwnerGroupTool" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Group differs on "private/etc/cups", should be 0, group is 26.
Permissions differ on "private/var/spool/cups/cache/rss", should be drwxr-xr-x , they are drwxrwxr-x .
Permissions repair complete

Im just glad to see others have the exact same permission changes, which as the other replied stated, makes me not worry about it.
I just don't like Apple changing permissions so they can "read" anything on my computer they want - when Im on iTunes for instance.

so ..... how can i fixe this problem?

That permission problem was caused by an Apple Remote Desktop update because it modified a file indicated in the permission problem.
However, it won't harm your computer, so you can ignore it because it's normal. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1448

  • Warning: SUID file....will not be repaired

I'm getting this error whenever I try to repair permissions. This is a brand new, clean install or 10.5. I've never seen this before. I know there have been some issues with repairing permissions in 10.5 but I've not see this particular error. Any one have any ideas? I'm just not sure what it's saying or if I should be worried.

Did you by chance use the 10.5.1 update that was available through system update. If so, try downloading the full package (110 mb) from the apple web site.
This will elimiate all the SUID warnings except for Remote desktop agent. Just so you know, these warnings can be safely ignored...
    Hope this helps...

  • The Dimension for a video podcast has changed and will not load into Ipod

I usually subscribe to a specific vid podcast but lately i have noticed that my ipod will not sync the new vid podcasts. it's very frustrating! i have had a closer look and realised that the vids that don't sync into my iPod have a larger dimension 852x480 compared to the old 480x270. This is an MPEG-4 file. What is the problem? What should i do? Can i adjust the dimension? if yes how? I'm not sure if this is the problem but if there are any suggestions i'd appreciate them.

Right, but if I can't get beyond the startup apple logo, I can't restore with this process:
You can restore an Apple TV (1st generation)'s software from the main menu by selecting Settings > General >Reset Settings > Factory Restore.

  • "The file is damaged and could not be repaired" error when trying to open a PDF in Reader

A few of our employess (only 3 out of over 100 so far) have been getting the error, "The file is damaged and could not be repaired" when trying to open some PDFs. Other people are able to open the same PDF files with no error. It's happening on about 10% of the time. I've read a bunch of threads here with this isue and tried some suggested fixes and nothing has resolved the issue. Here is what I have found works and does not work and the info on their computers:
    Computers:
1 Dell Vostro desktop running WIndows 7
    1 Toshiba Satellite C55 runnign Windows 8
1 Samsung ATIV Book 4 running Windows 8
All using Adobe Reader XI but we did uninstall that version and tried previous versions and still got the error.
    Did Not Work:
As suggested by the company that we use online for claims adjustments where this error is occuring, we tried using a different PDF creator since the files were created using a free PDF creator by the employees. PDF995 and PDFcreator (pdfforge) did not resolve the issue. I then created the PDFs with my Adobe Acrobat, uploaded from my computer to the online program, and that did not resolve the issue.
Saving the file to hard drive and then opening in Adobe did not work.
Turning off Protected Mode and Enhanced Security did not work.
Compatibility View settings enabled in Internet Explorer 10 did not resolve the issue. The previously mentioned claims adjustment software company we use online was code for IE so is not fully compatible with other browsers.
That being said I did try to open the PDF files in Chrome and it also did not work. Same error message.
    Does work:
I download the file they cannot open onto my hard drive, open in Adobe Acrobat, Save as a pdf, then email it to them and they can open it via email attachment.
If they close the error and continue trying to open the file over and over sometimes it will eventually open.
Is there a setting in Windows that is preventing them from opening a small % of files some of the time? Thanks in advance for any help!
    James

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:

  • After updating to Mavericks, get this during Permissions Repair: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired"?

Repaired permissions once, got rid of the the previous iTunes errors. Cleared history and repaired again, still get:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Any ideas?

I have just started seeing this message and, almost simultaneously, have started to have problems with various different apps crashing for no real reason. Just a coincidence?
For interest, SketchUp crashed with the message
    "Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000000f7f7fff9"
    and QuarkXpress with the message
    "Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000"
Am I just punching at shadows or could these be linked?
Hope someone can put my mind at rest.
    Cheers....Scotty

Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Reinstall Mountain Lion or Mavericks
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet

I have a mid 2007 iMac running OS Mavericks and the hard drive is failing.
