Repair photo image from newspaper microfilm

I have an image of a family member that was part of a newspaper article that was microfilmed years ago. The paper itself is no longer available. I suspect that the microfilm was done to maximise readability of text. It appears to be a very dirty image with large areas of either white or black. Can someone recommend a way of improving this image?

I have made a inversion layer and increased the opacity with some good results. But I wonder if there is something else I can do.

Thanks for you reply. When I paint, I bring up the photo as you suggested. I begin painting. After about 10 minutes or so, the photo goes blank. And, I have to start the process over again to get that same photo. It interrupts the painting process. I think it goes blank due to a sleep function. I have gone into the Apple TV settings and turned off the sleep function. But, this does not seem to work. What can I do to keep the image on the TV screen permanently?

Photo images from dig. cam [one is error and other won't open] questions

My wife inserted the sd card in the card reader and copied about 70 photo image files to the Mac. The camera that took all the 70 photos was a Panasonic DMC-LZ5 but I don't think the camera model matters much here.
For the first time, 2 of the many images seem to be corrupt. Mac X reports one photo image has an error while trying to open and reports the second image won't open.
My main concern is whether or not to just delete the two error/corrupt jpg images. My other main concern is that I don't want to keep the two images if it could affect or corrupt my hd or Mac system in some way.
I normally just trash corrupted files; however, in this case I went ahead and attempted to open both of the 2 troubled files myself later and they both opened up in Preview and didn't report any error or corruption. However, one of the jpg images defintely is corrupt when viewing it as the bottom of the image is definitely messed up. However, the other image now opens perfectly and looks fine to the eye as if nothing is wrong with it.

Further very relevant information: The SanDisk sd card that all the 70 images were on is a 1 gig card and the sd card seems to be a total loss. The sd card can't be initialized/formatted by disk utility and furthermore the sd card is no longer recognized by the Panasonic camera - the Panasonic camera won't even preview the images off the card or allow me to format the card even from the camera.

I see what you are talking about. I just discovered this same exact problem on a friends G5 after he uploaded pics from his Leica.
This is what I did: I ran Disk Utility from the system restore disc to verify and repair the drive. DU reported Volume Bitmap problems. DU was able to repair the disc. Next, I created a new user account and tried uploading the images from the camera to the G5 and it worked just fine. The images loaded like they should.
I also reinstalled the drivers that came with the camera.
Delete any files that your Mac reports as a problem. It's just not worth leaving them on the drive.
So...... run Disk Utility from your system restore disc. If it reports errors, hopefully DU can repair them. If not, one option is to get DiskWarrior here:

One other idea is how old is the card?
Next idea is to create a new user acccount: System Prefs/Accounts. Try using that account to upload the same images. See if they upload as they should. If they do, then the issue isn't system wide, it's just in the other user account.
Remember to always back up your images/audio/data often as you never know when you might need to do either an Archive or Erase and Reinstall.

Okay,
So i have removed all photos from camera roll one by one......... Now for the photo library, i want remove all pics from that,some are photos i took, some are shots i saved off facebook etcc.... while on the iphone safari browser.
but i have no idea what to do as there is no delete option on the phone for that folder....there is for camera roll, why they didnt have that function in photo library is beyond me...............
So basically could anyone tell me how to solve this problem, im desperate at this stage.

CS3 - create a 3 part photo image from 1 photo

i want to create one photo in 3 parts for a verical visual effect on a wall.
using 3 separarate 8x10 frames, placed slightly apart to create the one image.
example: a waterfall in 3 parts, spaced accordingly on a wall.
any ideas? i tried the rectanglular marquee to select and print part of the image,
but the "print selected area" box is grayed out.

Make three new blank files of the required size and resolution and paste the appropriate portions of the original into each file.
That way you'll have more control over the output.

Photo Images from my DVD movies???

I need HELP!!! I want to take my home DVD movies and capture still images off of them to use as photos so I can print them for my scrapbooks. Is this possible with the existing software on my G5 or do I need to purchase something more?....or is this even possible?

I tried pausing the movie and then using capture, but capture won't work with the DVD player running. My movies are actually on the small VHS tapes and I am converting them to DVD. I figured the quality wouldn't be the best, but I would sure like to try it and see.

Transfer photo images from laptop

Hi, I have just bought a 15-inch Powerbook and was wondering what is the easiest way to transfer photos taken on a shoot (and loaded/edited on the Powerbook) onto my G5 iMac. As a keen photographer, I will need to do this regularly. I want to be able to retain my edits without unnecessary duplication.

Well, the easiest way to do this, and have no duplication at all is to get a portable hard drive and store all your photos there, using the Option key start up for iPhoto.
You hold down the option key when you start iPhoto, and make/select the library on the portable drive, load all your photos on it, and then unmount it, bring it to your iMac plug it in, press option and start iPhoto on that machine, and select the library on the portable drive. This way it's the same library on both computers, and no duplication at all.
It also makes it easier to back up all your photos, you just back up the entire photos hard drive.
Or you could just send the photos over via a network, and erase them from the laptop after they are sent over.

How to delete lock screen photo image from camera while retaining the default images?

have two separate accounts; one of the accounts is not a Microsoft account. If i were to reset my computer system, some of the applications might not be there as the laptop had a custom setting when I bought it.

How to store photo images in a database table?

Hello Y'all,
How do I store about 695 signs inventory photo images from a PDF file to an Oracle database table? We are using Oracle 10.2.0.2. What data type should I use for these images? How about the table space? What table space should I allocate to ensure there is no space issue?

Hello... I have a table in my database of employees of the company. This table has their name, address and photo plus other information. I am having trouble trying to display the photo image from the database. The photo in the database is saved as BLOB. How could you display this image in a jsp?

Non photo images into photo book

Can I drop a non photo image from the internet into a photo book (a cartoon picture for example)? I have tried saving the image to iPhoto but then can not seem to drag it into the frame in the book.

It depends on the format of that the image is saved in. Jpegs no problem, other formats there may or may not be.
That said, Apple may baulk at printing images that you do not have copyright on.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the link to the original file.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Photos not deleting images from mac

Hi All,
OK, so the issue is that I have taken some photos on my iPhone and these have synced to my Mac and iPad using iCloud Photo Library as expected. However I then deleted these photos from iCloud Photo Library using my iPhone and they can no longer been seen in the iCloud Photo Library, or in Recently Deleted (as this has been emptied). However they are still on my Mac's local hard drive. If I try to import them on my Mac I get a message asking if I would like to import the duplicate photo(s), but I cannot find them anywhere in the library.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get rid of these images from my Mac?

They may be filed away in a Moment with an incorrect date - have you tried the search field to search for a part of the filename?
You already tried to repair the Photos Library, right?
Then it may be a problem of corrupted preferences files:
The Photos.app stores the preference settings in a file in your hidden User Library. If this file has become corrupted, you can see all kinds of problems with the graphical user interface - missing menu items, invisible photos, etc.
To remove this file, do the following.
Quit Photos, if it is running.
Reveal your user library and delete this folder: ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos/
To reveal the hidden User Library:
Bring the Finder forward by clicking on the Desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock.
Select your user/home folder (with the house icon in the Finder sidebar)
With that Finder window as the front window, press the key combination ⌘J to bring up the View options.
In the View options panel enable ’Show Library Folder’. That will make your user library folder visible in your Home folder.
Open your Home folder, then the Library folder, then Containers.
Move the complete folder com.apple.Photos to your desktop. Move the entire folder, not just the contents.
