Repairing an HP 2175xi cartridge holder

While installing a new cartridge in our old HP 2175xi, my wife snapped off the plastic spring-loaded cover piece that keeps the cartridge in place.  Can that be fixed?  Is it a matter of replacing the cover?  Is it worthwhile to spend money to replace it.  I can't remember how old it is.

Hi @Monsieurleprof
Personally, I would suggest replacing the printer. I am sure it has been good to you over the years, but it may be time to consider a newer model. HP does not have any certified/authorized repair facilities, but you might be able to find a mom and pop shop that does printer repairs.
If you decide you would like to get a newer printer, I would call HP, explain the situation and see if they can offer you a discount on a newer model. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.

  • How to get cartridge holder to go far right.

Followed video on resetting printer.  Had paper jam message with no jam.  Now the cartridge holder will not go to the far right.  It moves freely to the left.

You may have been able to do this with the Property List Editor but is no longer a separate application for editing .plist files from XCode 4.

  • Cartridge holder makes a sound like a machine gun when it moves to the right just before printing

Product is HP Deskjet 4440 all in one.  OS is Windows XP.
When the cartridge holder goes clear to the right just before printing it makes a loud noise like a machine gun just before it starts printing.  It prints fine.  But sounds like the cartridge holder is sticking and makes this machine gun like sound.

    Hi @gramdeb,
I see by your post that the carriage makes a loud noise when it moves to the right, but you can still print. I can help you with this.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Remove and reinsert the cartridges, to make sure that they are correctly installed in the unit.
I have provided this document for different areas of the printer to check for any obstructions or broken parts in the carriage path. 'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Computer. Disregard the title.
Did you just change out any of the cartridges?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • Ink cartridge holder not moving to allow me to install cartridges

I just unpacked my new printer and got through everything until it told me to insert ink.  The cartridge holder will not move to the center.  It appears to have a white plastic object in it that is keeping it from moving.  I have used this same brand in the past and never had this problem.  I don't know how to remove the object or get cartridge holder to move

Hi Katyj1,take a look at the video included in this document.  It shows how to change cartridges.  Take a look at the inside of the print in the video and it may help you remove the extra piece that should not be there.http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Photosmart-6520-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5169038/model/5169040/document/c03355180/ If you cannot get the white plastic object out - I would recommend you return to the store where you purchased the printer.  They may be able to remove it - or exchange your unit for one where the packaging can be more easily removed. Thanks for posting - I hope this can be resolved for you!Jean

  • New (2011) 13" Air in for repairs for 2 weeks - "on hold, part on order"

Not sure if anyone can offer advice, but my typical fanboy attitude toward Apple is losing some of its enthusiasm.
I got one of the just released 13" MacBook Airs which I was loving until it started developing problems with the keyboard  (either bluetooth or the built-in one) becoming randomly unresponsive, necessitating a reboot.  As the problem persisted I took it in to an Apple store where they determined it probably needed a new logic board.  It was sent to their repair facility.
Two weeks later, the status of my repair remains "on hold -- part on order."  I've contacted Apple Care a couple of times and after checking with the "repair dispatcher" for additional details, I'm told the part's on order and should be in any day now...for two weeks.
How can a part, for a new computer that's in full production be so difficult to get?
At what point should I start demanding a new computer?

Not a defective Air..well defective in that it had the sound fluctuation and the photoshop brush problem. Then I got a 2nd Air and same thing. The retina does certain things like opening folders, especially shared ones on a network faster than the Haswell Airs. I've had two of the Air's now and it was the same behavior. I've also now had the 13" rMBP and a 15" rMBP (which I'm typing on now). Do you have any sources showing the Air to be faster than the rMBP? A quick search shows this -
    http://www.primatelabs.com/blog/2012/10/13-inch-retina-macbook-pro-benchmarks/
showing the Air's slower than the retinas.
We are not talking about a huge difference in any case but it's noticeable. I still have a cpl of days on the 2nd Air to return it. BTW, the update from Apple this week fixed the Photoshop and Sound fluctuation problems that many of the Air's have.

I cleared a paper jam and now the print cartridges are stuck way over to the left and it is impossible to even remove one of the 2 cartridges. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi!
Please try these steps: 1. switch on the printer.
    2. open the cartridge door- if the carriage still not moving---unplug the power cord from the printer- leave the cartridge door open then manually move the carriage to the far right side of the printer...
    Hoping this will help you..

  • Deskjet 9800 doesn't recognize new color cartridge

When my Deskjet 9800 printer reported that the color cartrridge was out of ink and I replaced it several months ago, I put in a replacement cartridge (#97) from a new package that I had in reserve.  The printer failed to recognize it, continuing to report that there was a problem (left print cartridge light blinks, power light on).   I figured the replacement might have been faulty, and tried another new cartridge.  Same result.  I put one of these cartridges that it rejected in another printer I have (a Deskjet 6840) and except for not being willing or able to tell me the ink level in that (because it was moved from one printer to another?) it worked fine in that printer.  I have tried at least three new HP ink cartridges, including a freshly purchased one with an expiration date two years in the future, and I get the same result from the 9800 printer.
Unfortunately, the "top open" sensor in the 6840 broke so now it thinks the top is open all the time and I can't print with it, either.
The tape on the cartridge has always been removed before installation, I have tried "hard resets" several times, and I have tried cleaning the contacts in the cartridge holder and on the cartridges (which don't look like they have any stuff on them, and which I never handle)
    Questions:
    1) is there anything else that might explain this behavior that might be fixed, either by me or by some repair service?
    2) is it possible to get repair parts or repair service for the 6840 printer, or is this now junk?

I am sorry, but to get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since this is a commercial product. You can do this at http://h30499.www3.hp.com/hpeb/ .

  • Need to repair HD before installing mavericks HELP !!

    Dear all,
I have a perfectly working MacBook Air, built 2012 with 256 GB.
Mountain Lion does a great job, but I want to progress to Mavericks.
As advised, I ran disk Utility system check and this came up at veryfying disk:
Volume bitmap needs minor repair for orphaned blocks
    Invalid Volume free block count
The Volme MA_HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired
As advised I restart holding the command-R combo after which my computer starts to connect to the Internet searching for the boot-tool. then after about 30 seconds, I get a warining sign with apple.com/support - 1007F.
When I am on another network, the Internet logo keeps spinning for 20 minutes and then I get a -2007F failure.
I can not repair my disk it seems, although all is working fien.
Quickly made a Time Machine backup, but what can i do next ?
    thanks for your help !!

Same thing: Internet logo spinning for 10 seconds, then apple.com/support -100F.
In the meantime the computer works perfect under Mountain Lion.

  • When verfying my HD, it tells me the disk needs repaired. HELP! Can I just put a fresh version of Mavericks on? I've backed up most of what I need.

Any tips on what I need?  Do I need to fix my HD problem first, then do a clean install of Mavericks?  I'm currently running 10.8.5
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Try to repair the hard drive. Hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting, open Disk Utility, choose Macintosh HD in the sidebar and repair the drive. If it can't be repaired, erase it and reinstall OS X, and if you can't erase the hard drive, it's damaged.
In case it's damaged, you have to replace the hard drive. Any 2'5" SATA hard drive should work.
You have to repair the hard drive first before installing OS X Mavericks, as it would make the hard drive unusable if you upgrade first

  • Setup cartridge yield 970

Hi! I've just bought an Officejet Prox X476dw. I've been an HP printer user for many years now.
Should I expect the page yield for the setup cartridges to be significantly less than for a normal cartridge (about 3,000 pages), or just a little less? My business typically prints less than 500 pages per month, and I want to spread the costs of this investment, so if the yield is just a little less, then I can put off buying more ink for a little while.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi C3PONOR,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see you are interested in the approx page yield for the setup cartridges, well the setup cartridges and regular cartridges hold the same amount of ink, however remember when setting up the Officejet Prox X476dw it will require more ink as it will have to prime the tubes and use the ink for servicing tasks. I always recommend the XL cartridges as you get up to 3x the prints.
Take a look at some great resources regarding HP ink and the Uses:
How HP measures inkjet page yields

I hope this helps! If you have more questions regarding the page yields, I suggest contacting our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/hpsupport/index.pl

  • Return key not recognized on Mac mini during disk repair

Our Mac mii needs to run a disk repair so we restart and hold cmd & r, then it gives options but using keyboard it doesn't recognize double tap or return key so we can't select disk repair - so in limbo - can anyone save us? Please???

Boot off your *original* Install Disk , then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.
The Memory test can really only be trusted if it finds a problem, not if it doesn't find a problem.

  • Ink Cartridge problems

Hello, I have an HP Deskjet 4180 All-in-one printer. I use winindows 7. It does not print. When I try to print the printer and computer do all the things that it would normally do when printing but the page comes out blank or very faint with streaking or with a bright red colour only apparent. I have already put in new ink cartridges and nothing changed. I went through the process of cleaning the ink cartridges but nothing changed. I have done a self test with the printer and the page came out with only the red part visible. I don't know what to do now.
    Paul

    Hi there,
Thanks for posting in the HP forums.
I'd like to clarify what you've done so far... when you mentioned cleaning the inks, did you do both software and manual cleanings?
Step one: Run the clean print cartridges utility
Make sure that there is plain white paper in the input tray.
    Open the Printer Toolbox .
    Open HP Solution Center .
    Click Settings .
    Click Print Settings .
Click Printer Toolbox . The Printer Toolbox dialog box displays.
NOTE:You can also open the Printer Toolbox from the Print Properties dialog box. In the Print Properties dialog box, click the Services tab and then click Service this device .
    Click the Device Services tab.
Click Clean the Print Cartridges .
Follow the instructions that display on the screen.
Examine the test page that prints. If the print quality of the page is good, click Done and stop here. If the print quality is bad, proceed to the next step.
Or this manual method shown below?
Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.  (Manual Cleaning)
Press lightly on the top of the cartridge that you are replacing to release it from its slot. Then slide the cartridge out of the carriage.
Figure 56: Remove the cartridge by pressing down to release it
1 - The color cartridge belongs in the slot on the left
2 - The black cartridge belongs in the slot on the right
CAUTION:Do not remove both cartridges at the same time. Remove and clean each cartridge one at a time. Do not leave a cartridge outside the product for more than 30 minutes.
Hold the cartridge by its sides.
Dip a clean foam rubber swab or lint-free cloth into distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from it.
    Clean the copper-colored electrical contacts.
Figure 57: Clean the copper-colored electrical contacts
    1 - Clean the copper-colored electrical contacts
2 - Do not clean the ink nozzles
Allow the contacts to dry for about 10 minutes.
Use a second moistened foam rubber swab or lint-free cloth to clean the gold-colored electrical contacts in the carriage, inside the product.
Figure 58: The location of the carriage contacts
Figure 59: The gold-colored electrical contacts inside the carriage
Wait about 10 minutes to allow the electrical contacts to dry, or use a new swab or dry, clean cloth to dry them.
To reinsert the cartridge, hold it by its sides, and then slide it forward into its slot at a slightly upward angle.
    Figure 60: Insert the cartridge
Firmly push the cartridge in until it snaps into place.
Figure 61: Snap the cartridge into place
Repeat these steps to clean the contacts on the other cartridge and in the other side of the carriage.
    Close the cartridge access door.
