Just an FYI Laura - you can press any of the hard buttons on your Palm and it will turn on.   Many of try to avoid using the fragile power button, choosing instead to use a hard button to turn on, and the normal timeout to turn off.

I received an email with a link to check on the status of the repair. The link is BROKEN and I cannot get any information. I have looked "around" for some answers but this seems to be where I need to go.
How do I go about getting an update on the out-of-warranty repair? Thanks for any help. Gary Underhill [email protected]

Gary, Palm recently underwent some upgrades to their servers that has caused some glitches.
I will escalate your complaint to a Palm CSR...

  • My palm tungsten 2 is frozen on the tap the centre of the target page what can I do to restart it

I also have another tungsten 2 that has the same problem

Hi and welcome to the HP Support Community.
I assume you have the target screens because you Hard Reset the device?
If it will not respond to any taps after a Hard Reset, it sounds like the digitizer is faulty.  Yes, even tho you have two devices it could be the same hardware issue on both of them.  There is a long "stickied" thread near the top of this board which discusses digitizer (touchscreen) problems and their possible resolution.
If none of the solutions there help you out, you can check out Chris Short who can perhaps install a new glass digitizer on your device.  He has a good rep and is pretty much the only Palm OS repair solution I know of these days.
Good luck, let us know how it works out for you.

    Post relates to: Tungsten T5

I would suggest that you back up as much as you can on to an SD card and Hard reset the device, and yes that will cause all remaining data on the T5 to be removed. After that point you should have no further issues performing a hotsync or moving any data that you may have backed up back to the internal memory.

  • Tungsten T syncs but doesn't transfer information from Desktop

I had a Tungsten E2 that died 180 days after purchase (warranty only 90 days) and rather than spend big bucks to repair (figuring that buying the extended warranty, claiming that nothing is wrong with unit, and then sending it in immediately would be a bit bogus!) I purchased a Tungsten T on eBay.  Didn't come with software, but since I already had software loaded onto computer (Windows XP Home), I tried to sync -- games, etc. transfer, but not calendar or addresses.
Any ideas how to make sync process work properly, to get my crapola from Palm Desktop to the T?
    Thanks so much!
    Post relates to: Tungsten T

The E2 uses Palm's modern Extended PIMs (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Memos) while the T|T uses legacy PIMs (Date Book, Address Book, To Do List and Memo Pad) and the associated conduits.
Nothing will sync when you are using the wrong conduits for the device.
Because there are some other fundamental differences in the devices, I recommend you perform Palm's upgrade procedure (found by typing upgrade in the search box in kb.palm.com or on the support page for any current model such as the E2). You do not want system and preferences files from the E2 (which has non-volatile memory) installed on the legacy T|T. Once you do this check to make sure the Conduit names match what is on your device in Hotsync Manager.
Further, because the T|T has volatile memory and all data will be lost when the battery drains, I strongly suggest you invest in a third-party backup application (such as BackupMan) and an SD card, believe the T|T limit is 1 (one) GB.

    Post relates to: Tungsten T2

    Hi Wond,
Thanks for your response.  Do you mean that setup table in R3 only contain the transaction data not the master data?
The problem I met is I have deleted the delta request from PSA by mistake, so that the delta request which has 15 new records are losted and can't be load to the data target. this issue can't be resolved by rerun the delta infopackage due to the delta queue in R3 had been cleared automatically since the last delta request which has been deleted is successful in BW, so the new delta request load 0 record from R3.
So I want do to a repair full request to restore the 15 records from R3 to BW, should I restrict the selection condition so that only the losted data will be loaded from R3 to BW? But I remenber that repair full request only load the missing data from source system to BW, so is it necessary to restrict the selection condition in the infopackage maintenance screen? I had done the repair full request in the past, and after that I can do delta directly without redo init request. But sometimes should rerun an init request first, after that we can run delta request for that infopackage.
For attritbute change run you have mentioned above, I think it is used for activate the master data and the related changes in the infoobject. It isn't function as restore the missing data.
Could you please give me your further suggestion? Thanks in advance.

  • Tungsten T3/Windows 7 Synching in 2014

I've seen a number of posts regarding Synching a Palm Tungsten T3 under Windows 7 Professional, but they are incomplete or outdated, or do not fit my situation. I have Palm OS on my Windows 7 Computer, but had to repair my T3, which now has no data on it. My Windows 7 Palm application is loaded with hundreds of contacts which I don't want to lose, but want to load onto my Tungsten T3. Any and all suggestions will be gratefully appreciated.  And, by the way, is this the correct board to post this question?

If you were successfully Hotsyncing the T3 with this same computer, and no changes other than a repaired handheld, it should offer you to sync with your existing Hotsync ID the first time you connect.
But also wise to be cautious.  Set the Hotsync conduits to Desktop Overwrites Handheld before you sync.  Also make a copy of your Palm folders structure and contents and place the copy in a ditterent location.  Then if something goes wonky when you sync, you will have a copy.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.

If the old Macbook(?) has Snow Leopard 10.6 installed, and you have that retail install disc or the system disc of the current (base level) system on it, you could use the installer disc as a boot volume and use the utilities on the booted install disc to reset the password. It should be a menu option in the booted Install disc, way short of any effort to re-install anything. And if your computer can do this, the same DVD has Disk Utility, to check/repair the Mac HDD.
What OS X version do you have, & what MacBook, etc is that?
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • What exactly did Apple Repair accomplish?

    Hi,
I sent in my MacBook for repair last week because of a high pitched chirping that occured on playback when I used the built-in mic and built-in iSight simultaneously. I just got it back about half an hour ago, and the problem still exists.
They did change out a few parts, one being the heatsink assembly (HEATSINK ASSY, K36), but I have no clue what "PCBA, MLB, BEST" is, or what either of them have to do with a faulty microphone.
The problem description on the work order read:
"Issue: When recording audio with the built-in microphone, you get a loud, annoying high-pitched noise when activating the built-in iSight camera. The sound goes away when recording audio only."
At the moment, I am nowhere near an Apple Store, and my complimentary phone support is expired. If I call Apple Support about the repair in particular, will they try to charge me?
I may just end up driving out somewhere just to have it sent for repair again...

Alright, so I was digging through my Trash in hopes of finding some evidence (QuickTime recording-- or something) that Apple tested the hardware before shipping it back to me.
Thankfully, I did... and playing it back, I noticed two things about the video:
    1. The high-pitched "chirping" interference was gone
    2. The location of the recording was in a warehouse-like environment -- which means lots of background noise and very bright lighting conditions -- (i.e. tungsten-based light sources)
You may be wondering why I even bothered to mention the lighting conditions... but let me try to explain.
All the tests that I've run were under "normal indoor lighting conditions", meaning 75- watt light bulbs. Further testing proved that when reducing the amount light, the interference would get progressively worse, maybe because the iSight is working harder to pick up whatever ambient light is available.
Right now, it's raining outside, very cloudy.. House lights are off, and the window blinds are open. I start recording (both video and audio), and the interference is very loud. When I turn on some lights in the house, the interference is still there and still very noticeable, but nowhere near the level when lights in the house were off. When I point the camera to the ceiling at the light source, the interference (which is nearly "chirp-like") smooths into a steady tone and greatly reduces in volume.
Hmmm...Another thing I've noticed about the video left behind by Apple:
    3. The iSight camera was pointing toward the ceiling and the bright warehouse lights when the test was conducted.
    Any takers?

  • New battery for Tungsten E2

    Hi,
I have a Tungsten E2 which now does not hold its charge, so I need a new battery. My questions are simple, is a new battery easy to install? Looking at the back of the E2 there are 4 tiny nuts which look like they need a special tool, are they easy to remove? The best price I have found is £12 for a new battery from Elite electronics. Does that seem a good deal, for those who have changed their battery already. With thanks.

Have you tried adjusting the Contrast on the screen?  Page 14 of the Zire User Guide explains how.
Since the Zire is an "entry-level" device, most repair websites do not offer repairs or parts for it, though a search for "Zire Battery" might produce results.

  • Tungsten t5 hard reset w/ out power button?

My tungsten t5 palm was purchased used a few days ago. There was no problems when I purchased it, but somehow my elite-super-uber computer recognized it as a "threat" and destroyed some very important programs/files that I know absoluty NOTHING about. Anyways, now using my touch screen is a chore, and it takes a very forceful tap to access the menus, which is followed by a very very long lag. Is there ANY way to reset this to factory defaults without using the power button? my power button was broken when i bought it

Welcome to the Palm Support Community, fonzzz!
Do NOT apply too much pressure on the touch screen...
    It may damage the digitizer!!!
To hard reset your Palm without your Power Button,
download and run this PRC :
    http://www.palmpowerups.com/file/HardReset.prc
It even has a 10 second delay in case you accidentally
    activate it...
And to reset your Palm T5 to it's factory defaults, read on:
    Zero Out Reset
    Tungsten T5
    Treo 650 only
A zero out reset will return a device to its factory-fresh state. When done correctly, it completely rewrites your device's internal memory with zeros and ones, ensuring that any data is expunged. It should be used only if you want all information completely obliterated (example: you're selling your handheld, or you're sending it in for repair, and want to protect your privacy).
Tungsten E2 note: a hard reset (above) produces the same results as a zero out reset - completely rewrites data on internal memory. No need to perform the steps below.
Warning: A zero out reset will erase everything on your device. All your data will be removed, and formats, preferences and other settings are restored to their factory default settings. Don't perform a zero out reset unless you want to eradicate everyting.
HotSync note: Some third-party applications change the way your device backs up data. Other third-party applications do not back up data. If you have third-party software on your device, please contact the developer to learn what components are backed up during a HotSync operation, and if HotSync conduits are altered. Any data not backed up will be lost.
    Method One (Tungsten T5 only)
This method works only with a Tungsten T5. It does not work with a Treo 650; for Treo 650, use Method Two, below.
If you've set a password on your device, any hard reset will automatically become a zero out reset. With this method, you'll enter a password and then perform a hard reset.
On your handheld, launch the Prefs application. Under General, select Security.
If the Password box says "Unassigned," tap the box and create a password for your handheld.
With the password set, perform a hard reset.
You may see a screen that says "Reformatting in progress. This may take several minutes." This screen will remain for several minutes (up to 10 minutes). Don't do anything while this is happening.
If you did this reset correctly, the screen go blank after several minutes, and you will not be able to turn on your handheld. The charging LED will not light up. Any other activity — such as the Palm OS logo and then the Applications launcher appearing — means the reset was performed incorrectly; try again.
Your device will appear "dead." To wake up your handheld, perform a soft reset.
If you want your device to remain in factory state, stop here. If you want to restore data to your device, follow the steps for recovering your data after a hard reset (a zero out reset is a special type of hard reset).
Method Two (Tungsten T5; Treo 650)
Read through these instructions before attempting the reset. We made this method of zero out reset extremely awkward to perform, so that it would not happen by accident. You may need the help of a dextrous friend if you find it too difficult to do by yourself.
Connect your device to its HotSync cable or cradle. The HotSync cable does not need to be connected to your PC, and it does not need to be connected to power.
Press and hold the Power button and UP on the 5-way navigator.
While continuing to hold Power and UP, press and hold the HotSync button on the HotSync cable or cradle. As you press HotSync, make sure your other finger doesn't slide to LEFT or RIGHT on the 5-way navigator; it needs to be exactly on UP during the entire process. Although you are pressing the HotSync button, a HotSync operation should not begin.
While continuing to hold Power, UP and HotSync, press and release the RESET button on the back panel of your device (where's the reset hole?). This is very difficult to do with only one person; you may wish to hold the stylus in your mouth and use your hands to press Power, UP and HotSync.
    Release Power, UP and HotSync.
If you did this reset correctly, the screen of your device will go blank, and you will not be able to turn it on. The charging LED will not light up, even if it's connected to power. It will appear to be "dead." Aany other activity — such as the Palm OS logo or a rainbow-colored Boot Log screen appearing — means the reset was performed incorrectly; try again.
Your device will appear "dead" for several minutes (up to 10 minutes). During this time, your device's internal memory is being reformatted. If your device doesn't appear "dead" for several minutes with the screen completely blank, the zero out reset was performed incorrectly; try again.
After several minutes, your device will "wake up" and the Palm and Palm Powered logos will appear as if you had performed a hard reset. Eventually, you'll be taken to a series of screens to calibrate the touchscreen and set date & time.
If you want your handheld to remain in factory state, stop here. If you want to restore data to your device, follow the steps for recovering your data after a hard reset (a zero out reset is a special type of hard reset).
Good luck for your reset, and enjoy you Palm!

  • Desktop Address/Calendar empty; Tungsten E2 OK; Sync hangs on Address; dbScan fails

I have Tungsten E2 Palm OS Garnet v. 5.4.7 Palm Desktop v. 6.2.2 Windows XP Home 5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600 When I run the Palm ACCESS Desktop, the calendar and address book are blank. When I try to sync, everything starts up fine, but when it gets to step 4 (the Address Book), it freezes and goes no further. I tried resetting both the computer and the Palm to no avail. I then set the conduits involved to go from the handheld to the desktop: no change. I thought I might have a problem with the E2 Address Book database, so I ran cbScan v.2.0b (downloaded when I had a problem a few months ago) and it fails by locking up the E2 with a Fatal Alert windowlet that says: DataMgr.r, Line:8872, DmWrite: DmWriteCheck failed (Reset) and the Reset doesn't work/do anything. I have to do a soft reset from the rear of the unit with the stylus. Once everything is reset, all the calendar and Address Book entries appear to be there. I have zillions, so I haven't looked in all the nooks and crannies. I've had a Palm since 1998, so things have accumulated. I do have some backups on the SD card with BackupMan v.2.3. This is all I can think of to submit. Any help?
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

I had stated that the free version only detects and does not repair errors. See the statement in RED below.
There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.
I am not aware that it deletes the record. If that is what it states then you don't want to delete them.
Did you scan for calendar blobs?
I don't have any corruption in my DB on my T5 so I have never actually used the program to fix any records. I am not sure if it deletes the entire record or fixes the issue with the record.
Did you look at the reported error dates and look on the calendar?
Did you see anything wrong with the entry for those dates?
You could try restoring the DB on your card but if it is not current, you will lose the data on your E2 that is not backed up to the card. Like you stated, it may have the corruption in the backup also.
Sorry, I am not aware of any other programs that may help resolve your issue with the corruption.
Did you once have data in Palm Desktop on your PC? Did you lose it after a sync?
You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. You can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=26674
    Here is another link regarding data loss;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=39503
The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.
    Here is a link for other options for backing up your data;
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28751

Sounds like the device is damaged.  Repair options can be found at usedpdaparts.com and pdaparts.com.  They can repair it (possibly), but your data will be gone if there is any actually on the device.
Sounds like you'd better find that password!
