Repeat, over time, a shape across multiple rows, colums
Master Collection CS4.
Let's say I want to repeat a shape (say, a square) across x columns through y rows. So, if I had 12 columns and 8 rows, I'd end up with 96 squares.
Now, I don't want them all displayed at once; rather, I'd like to display one at a time, starting at the upper left, and filling each row successively, at about a rate of six squares per second (the rate is not significant to my question).
I'm sure I could draw each square individually and place it on the timeline at appropriate intervals to achieve the desired effect, but that seems like a lot of work. I'd rather draw or define one square, and then be able to repeat it programmatically somehow. Is there an After Effect function or perhaps an expression through which I could accomplish this?
Yes, Card Dance is certainly an option, too, but for simple squares or any item that can be created with them, I'd settle for shape layers. renders faster and allows infinite scaling and zooming, if need be.

Concatenate a column value across multiple rows - PDW
We are using PDW based on SQL2014. We require an efficient logic on how to concatenate a column value across multiple rows. We have the following table
T1
(CompanyID, StateCD)
Having following rows:
1 NY
1 NJ
1 CT
2 MA
2 NJ
2 VA
3 FL
3 CA
We need a code snippet which will return following result set:
1
CT,NJ,NY
2
MA,NJ,VA
3
CA,FL
We have tried built-in function STUFF with FOR XML PATH clause and it is not supported in PDW. So, we need a fast alternative.Hi Try this:

Time Machine Backup across multiple external drives
Hello all-
I have about 1.5 TB of data in my computer (video editing- fills things up fast)... I was wondering if it were possible to tell Time Machine to recognize multiple external drives as the backup volume? I'm not talking about creating cloned backups of my data on different drives, I'm talking about plugging in three 1TB external drives and having Time Machine use them as targets for the backup image.
ThanksYes, you can use Disk Utility to create a +Concatenated Raid Set,+ also known as a JBOD (Just a bunch of disks). See the Help for Disk Utility (in your Applications/Utilities folder).
This is kind of the opposite of partitioning: it combines 2 or more disks into a single volume. The three disks won't appear on your desktop or Finder sidebar individually, just the one volume.
I'm not sure that's necessarily the best solution, though. Is all that data on a single internal HD, or do you have, say, OSX, applications, and most of your data on one drive, and media on a second? If so, it might be better to use TM on your main OSX drive, and something else, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper! on the media.
That would greatly reduce the time needed for a restore, as you'd only have to restore the drive that failed.
It could also reduce the amount of storage needed, as you might not need (or want) TM's hourly backups of the media files, and keeping all the previous versions. Using another app would allow you to back that data up somewhat less frequently, such as once or twice a day.
But, of course, it all depends on your situation and preferences. As usual, there are many options. -
Finding the minimum value across multiple rows (not in a single column)
Hello,
I am running some ad-hoc SQL to test a website implementation of a spec. The ad-hoc sql gives me a set of date values for a specific widget (called a Task). I need to find the Minimum of either (Task.EndDate + 1 year) or the MAX date from the list
of other dates. I can easily get all of these dates, and compare them visually, but I'm not sure how to make SQL give me just the single value that I want. In the image below, you can see the results. The blue cell is the value I should get if I were to retrieve
a single value.
select
[EndDate+12Mo] = DATEADD(year,1,t.EndDate)
, [TaskEdit] = t.EditTS
, [ResearchEdit] = (select x.editts from Research x where t.researchid = x.researchid)
, [DeliverableEdit] = (select max(x.EditTS) from Deliverable x where t.taskid = x.taskid)
, [RTPEdit] = (select max(x.EditTS) from ResTaskParticipant x where (t.taskid = x.taskid and t.researchid = x.researchid) or (t.researchid = x.researchid and x.TaskID is null) )

, [CrosscutEdit] = (select max(x.EditTS) from Task_Crosscut x where t.taskid = x.taskid)

I need to have a calculation done across multiple rows. For example, my rows look something like this:
IDNUM RESULT RANGE1 RANGE2
1 2
1 1-3 1 3
RANGE1 and RANGE2 are computed fields(substrings) of RESULT. I need to get a count of the rows where RESULT (being a single number, 2) falls between RANGE1 and RANGE2 for that same IDNUM.
Any ideas? This would be much easier - or atleast straightforward - if you used a database view or a custom folder. Reason is that it need to check for each record having one value in the result - oh and probably will take a while to run.
ie:
select count(a.id) from the_view.a
where a.id = (select b.id from the_view b where a.id = b.id and
a.result between b.range1 and b.range2)
Don't take the code as correct as I'm just spewing it out as an example, but you should get the idea.

Cartesian time data across multiple hourly rows
Looking for a solution for exploding time rows into multiple rows by hour. For example, take a row like this:
EventTime EventLengthSeconds
2014-04-25 13:31:16.857 6657
What I need is multiple rows to allocate the time by hour like this:
EventTime EventLengthSeconds
2014-04-25 13:31:16 1724
2014-04-25 14:00:00 3600
2014-04-25 15:00:00 1333
I've crafted a solution using a derived table that I cross join to then use case statements, etc. but it's super ugly and I'm embarrassed to post it.
I'm thinking in SQL 2012 there must be a elegant and efficient way to do this with the new windowing functions that are available.
Thanks for any insights and suggestions. You need a table of hours for this problem. The more general concept is a table of numbers. That is, a table that spans the dimension you are working and provides a row for each discrete value.
Below is an example how you can fill the table and then a query which uses this table:
CREATE TABLE Hours (Hour smalldatetime NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY);
WITH digits (d) AS (
SELECT 1 UNION SELECT 2 UNION SELECT 3 UNION
SELECT 4 UNION SELECT 5 UNION SELECT 6 UNION
SELECT 7 UNION SELECT 8 UNION SELECT 9 UNION
SELECT 0)
INSERT Hours (Hour)
SELECT dateadd(Hour, Number, '20000101')
FROM (SELECT i.d + ii.d * 10 + iii.d * 100 + iv.d * 1000 +
v.d * 10000 + vi.d * 100000 AS Number
FROM digits i
CROSS JOIN digits ii
CROSS JOIN digits iii
CROSS JOIN digits iv
CROSS JOIN digits v
CROSS JOIN digits vi) AS Numbers
WHERE Number > 0
AND dateadd(Hour, Number, '20000101') < '20500101'
DECLARE @eventtime datetime2(3) = '2014-04-25 13:31:16.857',
@eventspan int = 6657
SELECT @eventtime AS EventTime,
3600 - (60*datepart(minute, @eventtime) +
datepart(second, @eventtime)) AS EventSeconds
UNION ALL
SELECT Hour,
CASE WHEN dateadd(second, @eventspan, @eventtime) >
dateadd(HOUR, 1, Hour)
THEN 3600
ELSE datediff(SECOND, Hour, dateadd(second, @eventspan, @eventtime))
END
FROM Hours
WHERE Hour > @eventtime
AND Hour < dateadd(SECOND, @eventspan, @eventtime)

Forecast Roll-Over Script across multiple years
Hello Experts,
I currently have the below Script and Prompt but it only works for one Fiscal year and I need help changing it so that it can be used across multiple years, my issue is below:
If I have project TEST and it started in 2013.011 and ends in 2014.004, I have forecast values for all periods so when I run the script I'm prompted to "select forecast year" and "select forecast version based on previous period"
So when I run from 2013.11 (forecast version P11) to 2013.12 (forecast version P12) that works fine but it's not working to roll-over from 2013.012 to 2014.001
Any help is much appreciated.
Thx,
Shane

Cats ESS view - into multiple rows when we release times or refresh them
Dear ALL,
We are using the record working times and when we enter the data for the week for 5 days each with 8 hours a day in one row in portal. Once we refresh or review that page it is resulting into multiple rows, like for 5 days five rows each row containing an entry for each day. how can we avoid this, we want all entries maintained into one row only.
Help is appreciated.
Thanks and Regs,

Time Machine to back up across multiple disks?
I've run out of space on my Time Machine disk because I have a lot of video stored on my system. (It's a 2TB drive and it's maxed out)
Is there a way to set up to share the Time Machine back up across multiple drives? If not, any recommendations for how to address this issue?
Thanks for any assistance! No, Time Machine backups cannot span multiple volumes.
If you're doing a lot of video editing, and a lot of the backup space is taken up by intermediate versions, there are ways to minimize that.
If you just have too much video, your best bet may be to get an additional external HD, and use a different app to back up the video files to it, and exclude them from being backed-up by Time Machine.
Tell us a bit more about your setup -- how many drives/partitions, and how large, is Time Machine backing-up, and how much of that is video? -
OCI8 OCIBindDynamic failure to callback on random columns over multiple rows
I am developing a set of bindings to Oracle for Python; see http://www.zope.org/Members/matt/dco2
When attempting to implement Python's executemany() method of the Python DB API, the code sets up a set of columns which are marked as DATA_AT_EXEC when bound, and a subsequent OCIBindDynamic is issued to set up the input callback.
This works, and I can have multiple rows retrieved in this fashion, EXECEPT that sometimes, Oracle does NOT call back a column, and will attempt to insert NULL for this column instead. The row/column for which this happens is apparently random, and the incidence of this is timing related (reducing the batch size also helps).
Has anyone got any idea if this is a legitimate bug in the transport interface? I have trace tables in my bindings which clearly demonstrate that a callback does NOT occur on random columns.I've seen this problem with 8.0.5, 8.1.6, 8.1.7 on Linux (I test on 4 different machines, with various distributions), and 8.1.7 on Solaris.
I am interested in trying to keep things bound DATA_AT_EXEC to keep the code paths simplified, so I'd like to figure it out and fix it. -
Updating multiple rows at a time
Dear buddies,
I am trying to update a couple of columns for multiple rows.
This is my SQL:
update department b
set (b.departmentid, b.departmentmaster2) =
(select a.departmentid, a.status
from departmentmaster a
where trim(a.description) in (select trim(dep_name)
from department b
where a.description = b.dep_name)
and b.dep_name = a.description)and this is the error message:
ORA-01427: single-row subquery returns more than one rowManaged to fix it myself.

Split single row into multiple rows containing time periods
Hi,
I have a table with rows like this:
id, intime, outtime
1, 2010-01-01 00:10, 2010-01-3 20:00
I would like to split this row into multiple rows, 1 for each 24hr period in the record.
i.e. The above should translate into:
id, starttime, endtime, period
1, 2010-01-01 00:10, 2010-01-02 00:10, 1
1, 2010-01-02 00:10, 2010-01-03 00:10, 2
1, 2010-01-03 00:10, 2010-01-03 20:00, 3
The first starttime should be the intime and the last endtime should be the outtime.
Is there a way to do this without hard-coding the 24hr periods?
Thanks,
Dan Scott
http://danieljamesscott.orgThanks for all the feedback, Dan.
It appears that the respective solutions provided will give you: a) different resultsets and b) different performance.
Regarding your 'truly desired resultset' you haven't answered all questions from my previous post (there are differences in the provided examples), but anyway:
I found that using CEIL or ROUND makes quite a difference, using my 'simple 3 record testset' (30 records vs. 66 records got initially returned, that's less than half of the original). That's quite a difference. However, I must call it a day (since it's almost midnight) for now, so there's room for more optimizement and I haven't thoroughly tested.
But this might hopefully make a difference performancewise when compared to my previous 'dreaded example':
SQL> drop table t;
Table dropped.
SQL> create table t as
2 select 1 id, to_date('2010-01-01 00:10', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') intime, to_date('2010-01-03 20:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') outtime from dual union all
3 select 2 id, to_date('2010-02-01 00:10', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') intime, to_date('2010-02-05 20:00', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') outtime from dual union all
4 select 3 id, to_date('2010-03-01 00:10', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') intime, to_date('2010-03-03 00:10', 'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi') outtime from dual;

Filter on keyword across multiple "folders"
It is clear that I can filter for specified keyword within a "folder."
This does not provide much convenience, it seems to me. I want to locate images with a given keyword across a large number of "folders" including even my entire C: drive. I must be missing something, because there is little advantage if filtering for a specified keyword is limited to what you might see in the thumbnails on the Bridge screen.
I nearly always store my images by date, with the "folder" name being the date taken. I plan to use Bridge to assign multiple keywords to all my images stored on my computer, a tedious chore, but one that I can do a bit at one time; say one day's shooting per day until I eventually catch up with several years of shooting.
There must be some functionality that I am ignorant of which allows the user to filter on all, repeat all, images tagged, for example, "Sarah." I have tried searching the FAQs and have failed to find the answer. I have tried highlighting a couple of "folders" but the "filter" functionality is not available as far as I can tell. Please tell me what I must do to exploit the Filter functionality across multiple "folders."I much appreciate the very useful information from Sergei Urlof, and I am using it. But I could use even more information, to speed up what I am trying to do. I want to know some efficient work flow procedures for using the keyword functionality.
I want to tag every appropriate image file that I have in storage with the name of the persons pictured. I see that when I open a folder in Bridge, and follow the File/File Info route, I can assign a keyword to the file, or more keywords if I use a comma. I see that the keywords I assign are shown on the bottom right side of screen. I see that if I open a different folder, the keywords are carried over, and I can locate/highlight other files with a particular person pictured, and can assign a keyword by clicking in the box by the keyword. This saves me the steps involved in File/File Info and typing in a keyword that is already in the list shown bottom right.
HOWEVER, as soon as I close that particular Bridge session, I lose that list, or at least so it seems to me. How do I recover the list of all keywords that I have assigned previously and make them available for clicking, for use with a folder newly opened? I can imagine using variations of names for a given person as keywords, and that would lead to poor filtering. That is, I do not see a keyword-name for an image of a certain person, so I type in a name in the File/File Info Keyword box. But it is a slight variant of one I have used before; e.g., Victoria instead of Vicki. I would not use a variant if the list of previously assigned keywords were displayed.
So, how do I bring up the previously assigned keywords, for use in a new Bridge session?
