Repeated Apple ID & Password on Startup

I have just recently upgraded my iMac from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Transferred the user accounts with migration assistant and all went well. If I sign into the main user account no problems but if I sign into any of the other 3 accounts it keeps asking me for the Apple ID & Password to finish setup. I have done this with valid apple id accounts but when I log out or restart the machine and then log back into one of the accounts, it again asks me to enter the apple account id & password. I have even created a new user account entering apple id account details but with the same results. I'm assuming that the issue is with iTunes but don't have a clue how to resolve the problem. I did reinstall Mountain Lion a second time but to have the same issue?

Thank you for your reply and for the links.
I'm not using any other services other than iTunes & iCloud on the iMac.
As I mentioned my account as the main administrator is fine, just the other accounts. My son has his own apple account which I entered his details on his account. It went through the motions, didn't come up with any errors, said it was complete, restarted the iMac and back to square one again.
What I have since noticed is that the agreement for itunes on the other accounts also repeats itself even though accepted each time. I don't know if it would help removing iTunes and installing it again? My account is not affected?

Are you positive you're using the exact Apple ID to update these apps that was used to originally ontain them? You can verify such by right-clicking one the apps, in your iTunes library, & selecting "Get Info". This will show you the Apple ID used to originally obtain the app...does it match on your phone?

  • HT201232 Why is iCloud repeatedly refusing my apple id password and repeatedly forcing me to change it

I am having problems with my apple id password, mainly in relation to iCloud which has been refusing to accept it. I then find myself being forced to change it. Sometimes I have also received this error message in relation to the iCloud password entry "There is no application set to open the URL mme.setupservice.SetupServiceJS.LearnMoreURL." I have had my apple id refused and had to change it 5 times in the last 24 hours. Any idea why this is happening?  Quite frankly, I would happily manage without iCloud!

    Hi,
This seems to have fixed itself now. I have no idea how or why it started or got sorted! Part of the problem could have been my inability in the past to remember my apple id password and then having to change it so often as a result that the confusion simply escalated! I have now managed to set up a password that is both secure and easy to remember. I hope that keeps things ticking over! Even now however, the apple id and password is still the only one of the hundreds that I use that ever caused me repeated problems. Until recently my Password Manager couldn't handle the apple id. Fortunately that has been sorted out now. Good luck with your problem.

  • HT1338 can't seem to download apps keep getting unknown error eventhough I have reset my apple id password repeatedly  itunes have no problem

I can't seem to download apps from the app store. I keep getting unknown error eventhough I have reset my apple id password repeatedly. With itunes I have no problem.  This is VERY frustrating to say the least.

Because too much time has passed I can't edit this into the prior comment, but here is the info regarding reverting to iTunes 11.0.2 (assuming you do have a time machine backup) from https://discussions.apple.com/message/22057703#22057703

    Repairing permissions doesn't fix it.
I reverted to the previous version, 11.0.2.
    1. Quit the new crash-prone iTunes.
    2. Delete the app.
    3. Restore v. 11.0.2 with Time Machine.
    4. In your iTunes folder look for a folder called "Previous iTunes Libraries", find the latest one.
    5. In the iTunes folder itself you'll see "iTunes Library.itl", delete it (or compress it and save a copy for later just in case.
    6. Copy the newest .itl file in Previous iTunes Libraries to the iTunes folder and rename it "iTunes Library.itl".
    7. Launch the older version of iTunes.
My crashing has seemed to have ceased with a revert to an older version. I noticed today that the newer crashing iTunes had been launched for hours but not playing anything, when I played internet radio it crashed within 5mins, fed up I reverted to an older version.
Btw, a simpler way to do this is to revert to older iTunes app, then hold Option when it launches and choose an older library.

  • Why does iOS prompt repeatedly ask for Apple ID password?

    Dear Apple Support Community,
    Device: iPad 4th Generation (64GB WiFi + Cell/LTE)
iOS Version: Latest version at time of publish - 6.1.3 (6.1.4 is iPhone specific)
SITUATION: I am prompted for Apple ID password every time I access App Store or iTunes. Typically, this should only be required to confirm purchase(s) or if password has "timed out" between purchases.
Additional Information: I suspect this is associated with Pre-ordered Movies and Music. This was experienced only after Pre-orders on all versions of iOS 5 and 6.
Thanks in advance for your help, guidance, and coaching a "Technoid."

    Michael,
Thank you for proposing a solution. However, it appears my restrictions are "Off". Your thoughts appreciated.

  • I am having a problem with my iphone 4s "To finish setting up iCloud, iMessage, and FaceTime enter the apple ID password..."

I was using my iphone just like any normal day and out of blue it went off because I let the battery die
it was 1% and I didn't put on charger, I forgot
so I put it on charger just like any normal day and it charged for sometime then it started to turn on
suddenly I got a weird screen on it a pic "iOS 6" and slide button saying "slide to set up" with all languages
    I pulled that slide button
    I found a screen of
    Apple ID Sign In:
To finish setting up iCloud, iMessage, and FaceTime enter Apple ID password for ********@icloud.com
    password:
so I wrote my password then clicked next
it got me to another screen saying "Updating iCloud settings...."
then it kept loading and loading so I restarted my mobile then I did all the above steps again
the next time it loaded fast and got me a new screen saying :
Your iPhone is now set up.
You're ready to start using the most advanced iOS ever
    Start using iphone
and when I click on start using iphone, the iphone restarts itself and repeats the steps again !!!!!
I've tried everything, restarting my iphone, doing the steps, respring, clicking on home and off button, EVERYTHING !!!!
but it keeps redoing that stupid steps without any end
please HELP ME!! I need my iphone back!!!

weird, i would try to restore through iTunes and set up as new as a test.

  • I changed my apple ID password and now facetime cannot verify my e-mail address.  I have tried changing my password back but still recieve the same pop up window telling me that the email could not be verified and to check my network but have wifi working

Please help.  I changed my apple id password and now cannot use facetime and my icloud continues to prompt me for my password and I continue to give it but, I repeatedly am prompted for the password unless I cancel the icloud.  I have tried changing my password back to the password I had before and this did not work.  I have tried to use another e-mail address for facetime and had verified that e-mail address and this did not work.  I do not know how to fix this problem.  I have thought about changing my apple id but am not sure how I would be able to carry over the same credit card number to the new apple ID.  I loved my Mac book Pro because I could facetime my boyfriend while I am working away and now I cannot.  I am starting to hate Mac.

The idea to jumpstart by change was not the smartest one, but gives you an opportunity to use that "temporary" account as permanent. You do not have a choice cause obviously despite you thinking that old account is no more -it does exist on Apple servers. And if you are unwilling to share your [email protected] with friend, just create one extra [email protected] for your friend. One suggestion - do not use gmail.

  • Why is iTunes (10.6.1) requesting my password at startup?

iTunes has suddenly begun asking for my password at startup of my Mac (running OS 10.6.8). And if my iPad2 is in its dock, the password is requested a second time. I have refrained from entering the password because I suspected a possible security breach. iTunes never behaved this way until a couple of days ago. Today when I tried to install the latest iTunes update (10.6.3), the process stopped after about 98% of the download and reported an error. I have tried Software Update three more times, with the same result. Anyone know what is going on with the password requests, or with the persistent update error?

Regarding your questions about the password requests: I have never used Match. I have an active account with iTunes which I've used for several years to purchase many $$$ of music, video, iOS apps and OS X apps and movies on my Apple TV 2. I have an iPad 2 which I usually keep docked when I'm at my desktop Mac. Just a couple of days ago iTunes began requesting my password twice every time I started the app. (I assume the second request has something to do with the iPad, because when it was not docked I only saw one password request.) I had no pending purchases that I was aware of. Last night I surrendered and provided the password to both dialogs, and today there have been no requests. I'm wondering if I just gave my password to an online criminal, or was this episode something Apple initiated as a security check, or was it a glitch? Whatever, the nagging has now stopped.

Call Apple with the Serial and they will send you the ones that came with the Mac. Or search the Net.

  • Iphone 4s constantly asks me for my Apple ID Password for no reason since upgrading to ios6

Since upgrading my iphone 4s to ios6 the phone constantly asks me for my Apple ID Password for  no reason. I've gone into the Settings page and entered my password multiple time and this has not solved the problem.

Since switching from iPhone 4 to 5 I am having the same problem.  I thought it only happened when I launched the app Line by Naver, but it's happening at other times now too. I have
    1. reset my iPhone at least 4 or 5 times
    2. erased and restored my iPhone twice
    3. tried installing Line from a different Apple ID/Apple Store (ie. US vs. Japan) at least 4 or 5 times
    4. turned off iCloud (in Settings)
Still no luck.  The repeated password prompts are super frustrating.
EDIT: I was running IOS 6 on my iPhone 4 for a few days before switching iPhones, and I did not notice the problem then.  Also, I thought somehow it might be related to an in-app purchase in Line, but also not sure about that.

  • HT204053 My iphone keeps asking me for my ex wifes apple ID password Why?

When trying to download updates for my apps my iPhone askes me for my ex-wifes apple ID password. She does not and has never used my phone and has her own apple ID associated with a different email adress. my iPhone is asking for password associated with her email address. Why?

    Hi, jvbay.
The usual cause of this would be Apps or media was purchased by that Apple ID and synced with your computer at some point.  You can verify this by following the section labeled Authorize using the correct account name in the article below.  Use the Apps requiring update on your phone for reference with Apps in your iTunes library.  Once located, the best option would be to delete the Apps purchased under her Apple ID and download them with yours.

  • Forgot my apple laptop password

    forgot my apple laptop password

Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

  • Strange Apple Logo Behavior During Startup

I've got a 15" Powerbook with 10.3 installed on it that is exhibiting some strange startup behavior.
When the apple logo appears during startup, it briefly shakes and then becomes pixelated.
Startup continues after this, and the computer is not exhibiting any other problems.
However, I'm concerned that it might be a sign of a more serious problem that I need to address sooner rather than later.
I've scoured the discussion boards, but haven't come up with any other similar reports.
    Any one have any ideas?

That means that the computor is having a problem with your password... It is having problems recognizing your password, which it finally accepts....

  • Apple firmware password

I'm using Orbicule Undercover a theft recovery application. They say
+To make sure Undercover cannot be uninstalled or deleted by erasing your HD, you can install the Apple firmware password utility. This Apple-made tool prevents anyone from booting your Mac from another disk than the current startup disk, unless they know the firmware password. To summarize: you will still be able to boot from another startup disk (to erase your HD, or to do a clean install of OS X) but a thief won't because he does not know your firmware password.+ *You can find the firmware password utility on the Mac OS X DVD that came with your Mac (in /Applications/Utilities/ on the DVD). For more information, please refer to this article on our weblog.*
The problem is when I check my Mac OS X install disks (1 and 2) there is no /Applications/Utilities/ on the DVD & you can't get the utility from the Apple site (they say the same thing "go to the /Applications/Utilities/ on the DVD)
    Any suggestions
BTW if you want to check out this anti-theft software go here http://www.orbicule.com/undercover/mac/, I don't work for them, and my Mac has never been stolen... but better safe than sorry

you have to boot from the install DVD first. then the firmware password utility is available from the Utilities menu at the top. However, you should know that
given unrestricted physical access to a computer it's fairly easy to circumvent and reset the firmware password. just a little googling will tell you how to do it.
this makes any antitheft software of the kind you mention quite worthless, definitely not worth paying any money for. remember - physical access trumps everything. if you are worried about securing your data in case of theft the only sure way to do that is encryption.
    Any suggestions
