Repeated Program Crashes

I recently installed Mac OS X Tiger on my powerbook G4 12" after having had my hardrive crash. Recently, most of my applications have been "unexpectedly quitting" on me as soon as I try to open them. For instance, I can no longer run iTunes or Mail and Safari and Firefox also quite after about two minutes. I have tried running less programs at once, but it doesn't seem to matter what else is running when I try to open iTunes or Mail, the program will begin to open (in the case of iTunes it starts to load my library) but it always crashes before even fully loading.
Any ideas?

I am not sure what you mean by having your hard drive crash but the place to start is to check the disk directory. Have you run Disk Utility to check the drive? That is the first thing to do. Then I would repair the disk permissions. If I were you I would start by doing steps 1 and 2 from the following FAQ.
http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html
I would doubt that you would need to do step 3 at this point but if you feel the need it probably won't hurt.

  • Programs crashing after security update 2014-002

I installed the latest security update for Mavericks today and since then I've had two programs crash repeatedly.
In iTunes, when I click on "Add to Library," iTunes shuts down.
In Photoshop Elements 12, when I try to save a photo, the program shuts down.
Has anyone else had similar problems? I can't think of anything else that would be causing this, as it hasn't happened before.
Note: I have a late 2013 Macbook Pro with Retina.

Bump. I'm having a similar issue.
Since installing the latest Mavericks security update, my Retina MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2013) has crashed and restarted a minimum of once per day for no apparent reason.

  • Program crashes upon Opening

Hi, My OS is Windows 7 and I am using the DW CS5 program. For two days now whenever I try to open DW it crashes immediately. I have gone to the forum and tried the remedy the problem trying the three options listed for DW CS4 program crashes, but none helped. I wasn't able to locate a current FAQ regarding this problem in DWCS5. Can someone help me please.

Here's the remedies that I tried. The first one doesn't apply that I know of...the link to this forum is:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/417116. There are no error messages. Just the standard "Dreamweaver has experienced a problem and will shut down. Microsoft will look for a solution...blah-blah." Then the program closes out. In conjunction with these recommended remedies I have re-booted several times too. I am also running Microsoft Expression Web 4 on the same computer. Of course I haven’t tried to run both at the same time but separately. I have not had any issues up until now.

    Dreamweaver crashes on start up
There are three common causes of Dreamweaver crashing on start up:
Conflict with security program on Acer computers
    A corrupt Dreamweaver file cache
    The 8KB bug
The following information describes how to handle each one.
    Acer incomaptibility
There’s a known conflict between Dreamweaver and Acer eDataSecurity Management v3.0. If you’re on an Acer, and Dreamweaver won’t start, download the patch from http://www.egistec.com/oem-acer001/program-update.html. This should fix the problem.
    Corrupted file cache
Dreamweaver creates a cache file called WinFileCache-*******.dat or MacFileCache-*******.dat inside your personal Dreamweaver configuration folder (the asterisks represent a series of letters and numbers that might differ from computer to computer). This occasionally gets corrupted causing instability, unpredictable error messages, and even crashes.
To solve the problem, close Dreamweaver and delete WinFileCache-*******.dat or MacFileCache-*******.dat. Sometimes, deleting this file is not sufficient, and you need to delete your personal configuration folder in its entirety.
WARNING: Do not confuse your personal configuration folder with the main configuration folder in Program Files in Windows or Applications on a Mac. You should never touch the main configuration folder unless you really know what you're doing.
    Locating your personal configuration folder
The location of the personal configuration folder depends on your operating system and version of Dreamweaver. For Dreamweaver CS4, it’s as follows:
Vista: C:\Users\ View. In Advanced settings, choose Show hidden files and folders.
Once you turn on this option, hidden folders are displayed as dimmed icons to remind you to treat them with care.
    The 8KB bug
This is a very rare bug that causes Dreamweaver to crash during operation, and then crash repeatedly each time you try to restart the program. It normally affects only Dreamweaver CS3 on Windows, and is caused by the presence of a file that's exactly 8,192 bytes (8KB) or a multiple thereof.
The solution is to open the file in a text editor and add a few extra characters (new lines or a comment will do). Save the file, and restart Dreamweaver.
If the file causing the problem is an image or other type of media file, edit it so that it's no longer an exact multiple of 8KB.

  • TS3276 Mail Program Crashed?

On starting up yesterday, instead of opening mail, received window labeled Mail Import telling me I had to import all my mail messages to use the "new" Mail. There was no new mail program! It is trying to import 40,000+ messages - apparently every sent, received, deleted, etc folder since the beginning. It stops at the same place every time. Cannot use mail at all. I can receive my mail on my iPad and iPod so it is just the MacBook Pro. Has the program crashed or been corrupted. What can I do to fix. I have been looking everywhere. I do not have that amount of messages. I empty my inbox and trash and sent and deleted folders regularly. HELP! Sharon486

    Welcome to the discussions, gjclimer.
    This sometimes helps:
    Quit Address Book.
In folder ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook drag file AddressBook.data to the desktop. Rename AddressBook.data.previous to AddressBook.data and restart AB. If your contacts are not back quit AB again and repeat the drag/rename process, this time with AddressBook.data.beforesave.
If you get your contacts back, now is probably a good time to use the AB menu item File/Back up Address Book.

  • Program Crashes on Windows 2000 Computer

This post is a little long, but I tried to provide as much information as possible.
Due to increased production volumes we added an additional test station. We have been having problems with a LabVIEW program crashing when I run the program on new test station I just installed. The program works fine on the older station but doesn’t on the new test station. The main difference I see is that the new station runs on Windows 2000 professional and the old station runs on Windows NT 4.0. The other difference is that new computer is faster. The program usually crashes after testing 12 devices (4 devices are tested simultaneously), so after the 3rd time through the test routine the program crashes. We can reload the program and test another 12 devices until the computer crashes again. It appears like program is crashing in the “Write 1 point to digital line.vi” because one of the digital lines is stuck high after it crashes. I have attached the library “Press Key.llb” for reference. The main vi is named “Press Key.vi” which controls the action/duration of digital lines for each test ( 0 through 32).
    Hardware/Software overview:
The Test Station consists of Pentium IV computer with four (4) National Instruments PCI MIO16E-1 DAQ cards and 1 PCI – GPIB card that communicates to a power supply.
The program is “written” in LabVIEW version 6.0. The program is built into an executable and runs with LabVIEW runtime engine. The program is rather large (2.5 MB)
The program uses the 4 DAQ boards to simultaneous acquire data from four devices under test. Two of the DAQ boards are also used to control relays that activate air cylinders. The air cylinder presses on specific keys on the devices under test. Once the devices are set, the 4 DAQ boards each take the another set of measurements. This process is repeated (Approximately 30 times) until the devices are complete.
Note: The program typically uses 184 MB of Ram
Computer 1: Old Station (In use for 2-3 years) Working fine
    Computer Pentium IV computer
    Processor Pentium IV 1 Ghz
    RAM 256 MB
Operating System Windows NT version 4.0
    NI DAQ Version 6.6
Computer 2: New Station Problems crashing
    Computer Pentium IV computer
    Processor Pentium IV 3.00 Ghz
    RAM 256 MB
    Operating System Windows 200 Professional
    NI DAQ Version 7.2
    Any Help would be appreciated!
    Thanks Jayme

Regarding the releasing of memory. Yes the "problem" computer memory starts at 184 MB and climbs to 197 MB right before it crashes. The "good" computer memory starts at 184 MB and stays there. They are both running the same exe file only different OS.
Yes I do use a DLL called LVDAQ.DLL. I this DLL is probably being called when the software crashes
When I generate the exe using LabVIEW application builder (on a Windows NT station) the lvdaq.DLL is created automatically. Is there a setting to define which library is created? or can I get this file from NI?

  • Program crashes when I try to load EPUB/ASCM ebook file or transfer the file to Nook ereader.

I recently checked out an ebook from my library's OverDrive and downloaded the EPub file to my Mac OS 10.10.1 computer. File downloaded to computer without incident, showing up as a acsm file in my Downloads folder. But when I attempt to open the file in Adobe Digital Editions 4.0.2 in order to transfer it to my Nook ereader, a message comes up saying it is fulfilling (similar to normal) but then the program crashes.
    I get this error message:
    (Adobe Digital Editions quit unexpectedly.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more
detailed information and send a report to Apple.
With buttons that say: Ignore    Report     Reopen)
Then when I reopen Adobe Digital Editions, it appears as thought the file is in the Adobe Digital Editions browser, but if I click on it to open it or try and transfer it to my Nook ereader device the program crashes again. (Same error message)
I've tried erasing the file and redownloading the ebook from Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox and the same thing happens. I've also tried restarting my computer and looking for updates to resolve the issue (there were none). I've used this program before with no issues, so this problem is new. I've also tried opening other files since, they most of those seem to open as well.I've used this program before with no issues, so this problem is new.
Running out of ideas. Please help!

Mike, that worked -- I think! I couldn't change the printer without a document open, but while I was in the File menu, I noticed the "Browse in Bridge" command, and it occurred to me that I hadn't tried opening a file from Bridge. It opened first to the templates, and I realized I had not tried opening a template. So I did, that worked, and I changed the printer from where it was set (Adobe pdf) to my regular printer. Now I can create new files, and all files seem to open without a problem. Thanks!

Does anyone know how to display (in LabVIEW) the memory use during execution of an image and data acquisition VI to predict when it is time to cease the acquisition to prevent the program crashing?
I am acquiring images and data to a buffer on the edge of the while loop, and am finding that the crashing of the program is unpredictable, but almost always due to a memory saturation when the buffers gets too big.
    I have attached the VI.

  • When I open Pages, it opens all previous documents. But I cannot close them:if I try, the program crashes

    Hello everyone.
Since middle february, Pages has not been working properly.
When I start the program, it opens by default a blank page. That was fine until recently. I would simply close it and open my desired document. But now I cannot close the blank document: if I do it, the program crashes.
I have bypassed the problem by simply minimizing the blank one and going along with my own documents... Unfortunately now the problem has increased, as it will not close any document.
Therefore when I start the program, it will re-open all the documents and it will crash all the time I try to close them.
Also, It will not let me save them or turn themm to PDF.
    What can I do ?
I have also removed the previous software and I bought (again) Pages on the App Store last week... results: NONE!! it still won't work.
    HEEEELLLPPPPP
    thank you
    jack

    Hello
I was warned of your problem by Jerrold.
As I'm really besy this evening, I didn't read carefully the available message.
What you get is a Lion's feature named "Resume".
If you dislike me (as I do but I don't feel useful to rant against it) there are several ways to get rid of it.
    (1) In theory, it's sufficient to uncheck a box in the General System PrefPane.
I wrote « in theory » because, at least in the French version this feature is broken.
    (2) Some third party tools are delivered to rule the feature's behavior for each application.
Here are two free ones :
    Lion Tweaks ( http://ifredrik.com/applications/ )
    TinkerTool ( http://www.bresink.com/osx/TinkerTool.html )
    (3) As none of them apply on my French System, I designed a home made brute force tool.
    --{code}
    --[SCRIPT don't resume]
    if my parle_Anglais() then
display dialog "What to do ?" buttons {"Cancel", "Restart", "Shutdown"} default button 3 cancel button 1
set |éteindre| to (button returned of result) is "Shutdown"
    else
display dialog "Que faire ?" buttons {"Annuler", "Redémarrer", "Éteindre"} default button 3 cancel button 1
set |éteindre| to (button returned of result) is "Éteindre"
    end if
(path to library folder from user domain as text)
    tell application "System Events"
delete every folder of folder (result & "Saved Application State")
              if |éteindre| then
      shut down
              else
      restart
              end if
    end tell
    --=====
    on parle_Anglais()
return (do shell script "defaults read 'Apple Global Domain' AppleLocale") does not start with "fr_"
    end parle_Anglais
    --=====
    --[/SCRIPT]
    --{code}
Save this script as as Script and store it in the folder :
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Scripts:
On my machine, thanks to FastScripts, I attached a shortcut to this script.
    So, when I press cmd +option + ctrl + Q I get this dialog :
On an English System, the buttons are :
    Cancel, Restart, Shutdown.
When we trigger the last two, the folder storing the dats required by the system to apply « Resume » is emptied so when we restart the machine no extraneous window is opened.
I didn't described the way to reach the folder named Scripts.
I'm sur that Jerrold will do that with a better English.

  • Programs Crashing when Closing without Saving

Everytime I cose a document (no matter what Program I am using), when the Save/Don't Save/Cancel dialog box pops up the Program crashes. It also happens when I try to Log Out and the countdown timer pops up.
I mostly use Photoshop, but ths happens with other apps like Textedit.
    Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Aouto recovery is not really the same as an auto-save, either. You don't necessarily get the last state before the program closed (a force quit would do an auto-recovery, too, on restart) because the the recovery data is not updated in real time.

  • Program Crashing at sqlite_prepare3 help!!!!

    Hi guys,
I am trying to make a program which inserts values into a sqlite database. For some reason my program crashes every time I press the button to insert the value. I have been trying to fix this for a long time but have not been able to fix it. Can you please have a look at my code and tell me what's wrong. Im going to put the code of my .m files on here.
    BpValue.m

    - firefox crashes every time i try to browse for a file (fileupload form).
    - nautilus --no-desktop crashes also before the gui is loaded with the same error output.
    - same to brasero
    - same to gnomebaker
    - evince crashes on open/file (again when browser should be opened)
thunar works, seems there is a problem with nautilus or any gnome's lib
on my another pc also running arch, there are no such problems.. would be great if anyone would help.
every hint is welcome, since i'm pretty frustrated.. google and irc didn't help.
    thank you in advance

    Hi
I experience a very similar problem.
Whenever I insert a blank CDrom or a blank dvd some applications crash that somehow access the dvd drive. these are brasero or listen, that I'm aware of, for the moment.
