Repeated & unwanted sleep before warm up

Every time I turn on or start my powerbook from a long rest it goes to sleep one time after another until it warms up. Then it runs fine. Can any one help?

First, see Replace Your Preferences and do it for the original account.
If that fails to solve the problem, rename the two Adobe folders that contain the prefs in the user profile for that account and copy the folders from the new account where it works. You want to be sure you copy the folders, rather than merge the contents, so you must rename the old folders first.

  • Screensaver password puts mb back to sleep before enter pass appears

I have my macbook setup with a screensaver password that must be entered when the screensaver activates or when the computer wakes from sleep. If you wake the computer from sleep and do not enter a password within about a minute, the computer will go right back to sleep. This morning I had a cd in my macbook and woke the machine from sleep. The cd spinning up put the computer in spinning pinwheel mode for several seconds. By the time the cd stopped spinning, the computer had put itself back to sleep before I even saw the dialog box to enter my password. After three tries, I finally shut the computer completely down and restarted. Anyone else noticed this issue? Any solutions?

    Resolved through system updates.

  • Why does my mac sleep before I can put in the password?

why does my mac sleep before I can put in the password?

So you press the Power button to start up the machine, it goes through the startup process, the login window appears, and the machine sleeps before you can enter your password? Do I understand the problem correctly?
Is the battery fully charged? Is the LED on the MagSafe plug lit, and if so, is it green or orange?
If the adapter plug is not lit, rest the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If it still doesn't light after that, troubleshoot the AC adapter:

  • MacBook no longer sleeps before battery run out

I have had my MacBook for a few years now, recently it started just completely losing power instead of entering sleep mode when the battery was low (the computer does not shut down it just completely dies causing me to lose documents I have been working on!), I assumed this was probably just the battery getting old so I purchased a brand new one (at great expense!) but this has not solved the problem - if anything it has got worse - it used to only occasionally do this but now it does it every time the battery runs down.
I have tried calibrating the battery but this has not helped, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions that could explain what is causing this or even solve the issue?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Hmmm...seems like everything -should- be okay.
I am guessing that you've run permissions repair by now. (That shouldn't effect your battery, but sometimes, obvious things are just that...obvious.)
This leads me to firmware checks and upgrades. Here's the how to: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1557?viewlocale=en_US
But before just blindly downloading stuff and running it, check as follows: Utilities>MacBook SMC Firmware Update (and/or MacBook EFI Update). Make sure those are up to date. (They should be, but...) If they are, stop. +Do not download anything!+
If they are not, I recommend backing up important files before attempting anything with firmware, just to be safe.
    Best of luck--

  • Playing shared music - plays 2 songs then repeats second song before next

I'm running iTunes 7.0.1 on a mac mini (core duo) and am attempting to play albums from a shared library I have on a windows machine. iTunes plays 2 or 3 songs from the selected album, then repeats the second (or third) of the 2 (or 3) songs before moving on to the next one...after another 2 songs, the same thing happens. I don't have this issue playing the same shared library from my iBook. I've noticed that prior to moving to the next song a window pops up on the mini saying "opening URL"; this doesn't happen (at least that I've noticed) on the iBook.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Mac: iBookG4, Mini; Windows: homebrew   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

OK, I figured out the answer to my question: I switched the drive with my iTunes library on it to an old box running Windows 2000...everything's fine now, and both the mini and iBook are happy. Doesn't make sense, but nothing ever does with Windows.

  • TWAINbridge message repeats = no sleep

periodically, my computer will not sleep properly.
in the console I see a message repeat about every 10 seconds or so...

If I disconnect and reconnect the USB to the printer/scanner, it goes away.
    any way to prevent this?

the TWAIN driver comes from the Kodak printer software...likely the one listed below
    /library/image capture/TWAIN Data Sources/KODAK AiO Printer.ds
I should also mention that clearing the CUPS cache seems to restore sleep when I get this issue
I suspect that your printer is being polled by the software, waking up the computer or preventing it from sleeping.
Is your printer/scanner on when these sleep episodes occur?

  • Black screen, repeated wake/sleep cycling - logs included

I just experienced one of the sleep/wake cycling problems. I was able to ssh in and collect some system logs while this occurred and have some crashlog data. They look slightly different than those in similar threads here. I have a 15" C2D MacBook Pro, 10.4.8 with 11/13/06 firmware. Gaps are where I tried to wake by pressing the space bar or a few keys.
    Any ideas?

  • IMac sleeping before set time

I've been noticing that my 20" Intel iMac is falling asleep before the time I set it to go to sleep. For example, I have my iMac set to sleep after 3 hours of being idle, however, there are times where at around 45 mins, it will be sleeping. It's kind of annoying so does any one have any fixes or ideas?
    Thanks!!!!

  • External HD goes to *deep* sleep before my iMac could get to login

    Hi,
    I recently bought a Lacie external drive ( http://www.lacie.com/it/products/product.htm?pid=11107 , the drive is a Hitachi HDT721075SLA380 ) to replace a dead one.
The problem with the drive is that it goes in stop as soon as I plug in the electricity socket... so, when I startup the iMac, the drive is invisible to the system, it doesn't even show up in Disk Utility; to make it appear I have to reach the back of the hd enclosure and unplug/replug its cable.
    Any hint about the situation?
    thanks in advance
    ciao
    Andrea

I think you're not the first one with problems with LaCie drives. Have you checked if it has the latest firmware?
    http://www.lacie.com/support/drivers/index.htm?id=10007
Another thing I read somewhere - which could be relevant - is that in order for the deselection of the "Put hard disk(s) to sleep whenever possible" (Sys Prefs-Energy) to work, one may have to set "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for" to Never. Worth a shot to try at least.

  • Unwanted Sleep

I'll keep this short. My Powerbook 17' is sleeping without request or reason at seemingly random times, and then it won't wake back up. The LED pulses dimly, and it won't wake back up no matter what I press or do, and it won't shut down by holding the powerbutton. When I close the lid, the LED sleep light pulses a lot brighter, like normal sleep, but when I open it again same thing. LED dims but still pulses, and it won't wake up. The only way I can get my computer back is to unplug it, remove the battery and hit the kill key. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

A number of sleep-related issues can appear after incremental Mac OSX updates, including the inability to properly go to sleep, problems waking from sleep, and having your display go to sleep without your Mac going to sleep. The most common culprit is Bluetooth. Try these tips to fix your sleep problems.
    WAKE UP
In System Preferences>Bluetooth, uncheck Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer. If you are using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you'll have to wake your Mac by pressing the power button.
    FILE CORRUPTION
Your Bluetooth preference file may be corrupt-you'll need to delete it. Turn Bluetooth off, then go to the /Users/user name/Library/Preferences folder. Look for a file called com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and trash it.The OS will create a new preference file when you enable Bluetooth again.
    ENERGY SAVER
If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
-/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--(username is your name or System Administrators name).
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
Some, in these forums, have had luck fixing sleep issues downloading the Combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
Yours would be the 10.4.6 Intel Combo update. Others reading, download the combo update that applies to you!
    Cheers!

  • Repeated self sleep?????

hi all, am hoping there's any easy answer, but this is drivin me up the wall.
Problem is my imac seems to run hot despite the fan running almost constantly even when using one app. at a time. Whether am on or off line doesn't seem to make a difference.
I've updated and repaired perms till am blue in the face and am starting to think of jumping ship it's that frustrating i'm quite surprised i've got this written without a sleep mode being forced on me.
The rub is it seems to be worse with apple apps. than 3rd party (am using Firefox as safari lasts less than 3mins)so basically fan on 90% of time followed by sleep - straight to black screen-
    any ideas gratefully received.
