Repeatedly asked for encrypted drive password

Hi - I've just partitioned an external drive into two and encrypted each seperately by right clicking on them and choosing encrypt drive - all went well. One partition is for time machine and the other for random files. Then the first time I reattached the drive I was asked to put the encryption password in again, so I did and asked for it to be added to keychain - now everytime I plug the drive in it asks for the password again even though it is in keychain. I've deleted them from keychain and started again but I still end up with the same problem. Also, if you click cancel when it asks you for the password it goes ahead and mounts the drive using the keychain password anyway! What gives? Is there something wrong with the encryption or keychain? What am I missing?
Thanks!

Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the icon grid.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid
If the box marked Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • Why does iOS prompt repeatedly ask for Apple ID password?

    Dear Apple Support Community,
    Device: iPad 4th Generation (64GB WiFi + Cell/LTE)
iOS Version: Latest version at time of publish - 6.1.3 (6.1.4 is iPhone specific)
SITUATION: I am prompted for Apple ID password every time I access App Store or iTunes. Typically, this should only be required to confirm purchase(s) or if password has "timed out" between purchases.
Additional Information: I suspect this is associated with Pre-ordered Movies and Music. This was experienced only after Pre-orders on all versions of iOS 5 and 6.
Thanks in advance for your help, guidance, and coaching a "Technoid."

    Michael,
Thank you for proposing a solution. However, it appears my restrictions are "Off". Your thoughts appreciated.

  • I get repeatedly asked for my Keychain password.

By Chrome, iTunes, practically any app I open. And no matter how many times I enter it in, another 20 minutes later it asks again.
The dialogue box is "(Application) wants to use the "login" keychain. Please enter the keychain password."

    Hello Ben,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the keychain issue you are experiencing.  I recommend running the Keychain First Aid for the issue you are experiencing:
To check keychains for problems using Keychain First Aid:
Open Keychain Access, located in the Utilites folder in the Applications folder.
Choose Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid.
Enter your user name and password.
Select Verify and click Start. Any problems found will be displayed.
If there are problems, select Repair, and then click Start.

  • Repeatedly asking for Apple ID Password with every app update iOS7

Since I updated to iOS7, I have to type in my password for every app update. I don't want to auto-update all the apps; I like an older FB app. How can I get my phone to remember my password like before in the app store?

I encountered this on my son's iPod Touch. I tried an 'Update All', but since he has one or two apps from his sister's Apple ID and she wasn't here to enter her password (which stopped the whole process!) I wanted to just update the other apps (purchased on my Apple ID). However, since there wasn't an option to skip an app, it seemed the only way to update the others (around 50 apps) was to click on all the update buttons individually. That would have been annoying enough, but fancy being asked to type in my password for every… single… app!
Absolute madness. Does Apple not think through these things anymore? They used to pay such careful attention to little details of the user experience. Very frustrating.

  • Not able to open mail from my mac, gmail repeatedly asking for password. but using same password able to open gmail on safari

not able to open mail from my mac, gmail repeatedly asking for password. but using same password able to open gmail on safari

okay well they got me to take out some .plist files to see if that would help it didn't. I'm not sure what ones that they deleted for my self maybe someone here would be abel to tell you what ones to take out but didn't work the one that came close to working was this going into keychain and deleting the account(s) then reading them again.
if you are to do this please back up first with Time Machine. You can do this with a usb drive.
Okay so go back to where you had internet accounts and make sure mail is shut. click the - on the account your having problems with then quit system preferences.
Okay so then press cmd and space bar at the same time then type 'keychain access' into the search then click on 'keychain access'
once it is open go to the top of the window and put your email address that you are having problems with.
once you have put in your full email, have a look at what comes up i deleted things in the kind colome with 'internet password' and anything with under name that had smtp.gmail.com or imap.gmail.com so it would look like this, map.gmail.com - internet password.
right click and delete them. make sure not to touch any other files that dont say them things on them.
Once you have done this quit keychain access and then restart the computer, once the computer is restarted go back to system preferences and internet accounts and re-add the account.
Hope this helps. if something is not clear just ask.

  • Why is my iPhone asking for my iTunes password randomly and repeatedly?

I have seen this question in several discussions, but all are archived. None had an answer.   I have 3 iPhone 4S's and 3 iPod Touch 4g's.  All, radomly but frequently enough to be annoying, display a pop up screen when first using the iPhone/Pod Touch (normally from sleep mode) asking for your iTunes password.  It gives you the option to select "cancel" or "enter"and sometimes I just hit cancel b/c I am so fed up with this.  I notice no problems if I do not enter my password and hit "cancel."  But, who knows if something is compromised by not giving the device what it "wants."   So, most of the time  I enter my password hoping that will satisfy the "beast" and it will not ask for it anymore.  No luck.
I hope someone knows the answer to this before the "Gods of Archive" close this question/discussion.  I have to believe something is going on that is not right.
One iPhone 4S and iPod Touch 4g is running off a MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.3
Two iPhone 4s's and two iPod Touch 4g's are running off MacBook Pros running Snow Leopard 10.6.8
All devices are sharing the SAME iTunes password for apps, music, etc.
    Best, Mr. Luigi

For those who might be experiencing this same problem, I'll pass on the things I try and whether it meets with any success or not.
    Here is my latest idea:
As I mentioned earlier, our family of 3 shares 1 itunes account for apps, music...This way, one song, one app, whatever purchased by one of us can be used on the other's iDevices.  Up until recently we had 8 devices sharing this one account:
    3 MacBook Pros
    3 iPhone 4S's
    1 iPad Original + 3g
    1 iPad 2 +3g
Then we were given 3 iPod Touch 4th generation devices.  I set them up and things seemed ok. Seemed...
Then I noticed in the iCloud "Account Info" for this 1 account the 1 iPad Original + 3g was not listed as included with this Apple account.  Hm...
In iTunes, I had 'Automatically Sync New Apps" turned ON for the iPad Original + 3g.  However, I noticed in the actual iPad Original + 3g that when I went to Settings --> Store,  Automatic Downloads for Music, Apps, and Books was set to OFF.  So, I naturally turned those to ON to coordinate with the "Automatically Sync New Apps" setting for this device in iTunes.  Next time I turned on that iPad a warning pop-up appeared that said only TEN devices could be associated with 1 iTunes account for automatic downloads.  Hm...
I thought that perhaps having all our iDevices (8 of them) set to "Automatically Sync New Apps" was confusing iTunes because that meant I was asking it to Sync New App to 11 total devices (including my 3 computers).
So, I am going to watch and see if anything happens by taking our original iPad out of the "loop."  Maybe this sorta random having to enter my password is because iTunes can't "handle" having 11 devices asking for app syncing when Apple has told it to only allow 10 devices.  (BTW, I think that Apple needs to change this rule now that it has Computers, iPhones, iPod Touches, AND iPads competing for those precious 10 spots.  It's easy to use them up even for a small family of 3 like ours.)
If this has confused you, welcome to the club.  There is another discussion focused on families and their use of the new iCloud service.  It's a gargantuan discussion, so I'm not the only one perplexed as to the best way to manage a house of Apple Products sharing an iTunes account.
All I can hope is that I am now confused at a higher level, and about more appropriate things so that eventually I may figure this out. Bye.

  • HT1311 im borrowing a friends ipod touch and want to add apps to it. i signed into my apple account but when i go to the app store it still asks for my friends password even though my apple ID account is signed in. any help?

I'm borrowing a friend's iPod touch until I get another phone and I want to add some apps. I deleted all the apps that weren't needed and then I tried to add some of the apps that I need. I switched the Apple ID account on the iPod and the iCloud account to my own along with all the other apps (Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Instagram, Skype, mail, YouTube, etc.) When i go to the Apple app store and try and update or download a new app it still asks for the old password. How do I get it so when I try and download new stuff it asks for MY password?

It is showing updates because your machine is tied to the original purchase and will remain so until you wipe the drive.
As you purchased it used and the seller obviously did not do what he was supposed to do and that is erase the hard drive and reinstall the original system, you will run in to far more difficult problems when you need to reinstall for whatever reason. The new licensing requirements are that any mac is sold with the original OS - any OS or app obtained at the app store is NOT transferable and the buyer needs to purchase their own license. That means you will not be able to reinstall the OS.
At some point, you will need to try to get either the original install disks (from the seller or Apple) and wipe your drive and reinstall. Then you can download your own licensed copy of Mavericks and any apps you want.

  • Purchased a new ipad set up a password of 4 digits, screen has locked and now asking for a long password?! please help

why is my new ipad asking for a long password when I set up a 4 digit code??

You will most probably have to force your iPad into Recovery Mode to remove passcode.
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.
    3. Repeat the process if necessary.

  • Can't create a folder without being asked for a login password.

I'm running 10.9.5 on an iMac. When I try to create a folder I'm asked for my login password. When I try to move a file into the folder I'm asked again for my login password. This is very annoying. My other Mac running 10.4.8 doesn't do this.

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • [Maybe solved] Repeated prompts for username and password on HTTP(S)

I'm new to IOS but I'm taking ICND 1 and ICND 2 to catch up. I've gone as far as configuring a 3560 switch from "scratch" in a test environment, and am in part one of ICND 2.
Setting this switch up for HTTP administration, I've been prompted repeatedly for my username and password both when using a browser directly and when using Cisco Network Assistant (currently 5.5). This is different from the production switches I'm working with, that will prompt me once only and let me work. At first I suspected this was because I'm trying to use SSL and an in-house certitficate authority to sign the switch's certificate, but this is happening in plain HTTP as well.  If I'm persistent enough, I eventually get the pages or configuration screens I want.
The difference between the production 3560s and my testing one, is the test one uses IOS 12.2(53), the current version.  The production ones use 12.2(25)SEE3 through 12.2(35)SE5 and probably everything in between.  I'm also experimenting with the releases that includes the web-based device manager on my test switch, but the behaviour is similar whether the image has the web-based manager or not.

In an update to this problem, I've reverted the switch I've been testing back to 12.2(35)SE5, which is what the majority of my production 3560s use. It appears to behave in the same fashion: Repeatedly asking for credentials over HTTP(S).
While my non-production switch has a local user database set up, my production switches use two ACS servers.  The relevant bits of the running config are:
    aaa new-model
    aaa group server tacacs+ mcbhtacacs
    server 10.1.2.221
    server 10.1.2.222
    aaa group server radius mcbhradius
    server 10.1.2.221 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646
    server 10.1.2.222 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646
aaa authentication login default group mcbhtacacs local
    aaa authentication login LOCALAUTH local
aaa authorization exec default group mcbhtacacs
aaa accounting send stop-record authentication failure
aaa accounting exec default start-stop group mcbhtacacs
aaa accounting commands 1 default start-stop group mcbhtacacs
aaa accounting commands 15 default start-stop group mcbhtacacs
aaa accounting system default start-stop group mcbhtacacs
    aaa session-id common
    tacacs-server host 10.1.2.221 key 7 [censored]
    tacacs-server host 10.1.2.222 key 7 [censored]
    tacacs-server directed-request
    radius-server host 10.1.2.221 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646 key 7 [censored]
    radius-server host 10.1.2.222 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646 key 7 [censored]
    radius-server source-ports 1645-1646
Another switch that does work without repeated prompting has these relevant bits:
    aaa new-model
    aaa group server tacacs+ mcbhtacacs
    server 10.1.2.221
    server 10.1.2.222
    aaa group server radius mcbhradius
    server 10.1.2.221 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646
    server 10.1.2.222 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646
aaa authentication login default group mcbhtacacs local
    aaa authentication login LOCALAUTH local
aaa authorization exec default group mcbhtacacs local
aaa accounting send stop-record authentication failure
aaa accounting exec default start-stop group mcbhtacacs
aaa accounting commands 1 default start-stop group mcbhtacacs
aaa accounting commands 15 default start-stop group mcbhtacacs
aaa accounting system default start-stop group mcbhtacacs
    aaa session-id common
    tacacs-server host 10.1.2.221 key 7 [censored]
    tacacs-server host 10.1.2.222 key 7 [censored[
    tacacs-server directed-request
    radius-server host 10.1.2.221 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646 key 7 [censored]
    radius-server host 10.1.2.222 auth-port 1645 acct-port 1646 key 7 [censored]
    radius-server source-ports 1645-1646
10.1.2.221 and 10.1.2.222 are the ACS servers, running ACS 4.1 and are linked to a pair of Active Directory domain controllers.
Aside from host names, these two switches appear to have an identical AAA configuration.  So why would the first switch repeatedly ask for credentials over HTTP when the second switch with the same software does not?

    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
