Repeater to strengthen signal?

I have a DSL connection using a Belkin G+ router. The router, modem, computer and phone jack are all on one end of the house so the signal gets weak at the opposite end of the house. I cannot add a high gain antenna to this router as the antennas do not come off. Is there some kind of repeater that I can install on the other end of the house to strengthen the signal? I've seen wifi repeaters that you just plug into an AC outlet but not sure if they will work with a Mac/Belkin wireless network.

Your best bet is to get a base station that supports Wireless Distribution System (WDS). Then you can position a base station mid-way between your main base station and where you're trying to get to and it acts as a kind of repeater (client talks to WDS base station which then relays the packet back to the main base station).
I know all current Apple AirPort Base Stations support WDS, but you'll need to check for WDS support in other makes/models.

  • Why does Repeater weaken my signal?

I have a new Airport Extreme 6th generation router, located on the basement. With just that router, my thermostat for my furnace reads 4 bars (strong signal). After adding an "airport express" on the far side of the main floor, it seemed to weaken the signal at times. Then I added my old 4th generation Airport Extreme on the far side of my house on the second floor. It all looked good on the Airport Utility, but in practise, the signal strength on my thermostat dropped down to a paltry 2 bars, and it seemed unexplainable. How is it that those repeaters WEAKENED the signal? I had always thought that they amplified and re-broadcast the signal. Now I discover that with the Airport Extreme 6th generation router, something else seems to be going on with the repeaters.

Wireless is a shared media.. if she is using your wireless for internet and the express is on the same network.. then only one thing can work at a time.
Is your express the dual band model. ie latest gen2.. if so you can set a different name for 5ghz.. and force one of you to use 5ghz and one to use 2.4ghz.

  • Repeat loss of signal

I have a WRT54G ver.6 and i am able to connect to the internet but loss the signal randomly every few hours. Upgraded Firmware with no luck. Somebody please help

I had this same problem - lots of us apparently do. I read numerous threads, tried numerous changes to settings, upgrading the firmware, etc. I even tried a newer version of the router (WRT54G to WRT54GS). Nothing worked. I then tried changing to the DD-WRT firmware, and since then, I've had zero problems: no dropped connection, no rebooting the router.
Visit http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page for info on the firmware and instructions on how to download and install.

  • Is there an airport signal booster to strengthen signal?

Is there a signal booster for the Airport?

Any of the Apple routers.....an AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, or Time Capsule can be used to wirelessly "extend" the wireless network to provide more wireless signal coverage......assuming that the "extender" is located where it can receive a strong wireless signal to be able to extend it.
A much better way to "extend", would be to connect the Apple AirPort routers together using a wired Ethernet connection. There is much less loss of signal this way....and the extending AirPort can be located exactly where more wireless coverage is needed.

  • How do I connect my airport extreme to wifi as a repeater

how do I connect my airport extreme to wifi as a repeater?

    Thanks for the info.
Unfortunately, Apple has designed their routers to only extend or repeat the wireless signal from other Apple routers.
It would be extremely unlikely that the AirPort Extreme would be able to extend or repeat a wireless signal from another manufacturer's router.
I suppose that it could not hurt to try, but if the Extreme is still unopened, it might be a better idea to return the Extreme, get the information about the router at the neighbor's and then use a product from the same manufacurer that would be compatible to repeat or extend the wireless.

  • Can I add a second airport as a wireless repeater?

CAn I use a second airport extreme as a wifi repeater using the main router wifi?

I am hoping an airport express can work as a wireless repeater WITHOUT having to be connected into the LAN via Ethernet cabling. Is this possible? In the manual online it seems that it only works as an extender (i.e. it must be plugged into the network router/switch) and can't repeat a wifi signal from one wifi device to an apple extreme base station. Can someone confirm this?

  • Several segment of one signal output as a undivid signal

    Hi nice friends,
I'm working on some signal simulation with LabVIEW, all run well and just run into one signal problem.
It's a sinus signal, its frequency changes from 15Hz---30KHz smoothly. In the beginning, I thought it would be easy to construct a whole signal and output with the DAQmx Timing.vi (Use Waveform), but things seems not so simple, because of the big frequency(30KHz), I need make the sample rate of the waveform at least 300KHz, which still don't make the waveform smooth enough.
So I'm wondering, if it is possible to output the waveform as several segments and output them continuously. Still I'm wondering if it is possbile to make it with that big frequency(30KHz)?
    Thank you all for andvance.
    best regards

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Exactly, NI PCI 6251 is what I'm using now.
I know the hardware sampling rate is fast enough, it's just because of the huge samples of the whole sinus signals which last 60seconds with frequency 30KHz(its sinus frequency, to make the signal clear, 10 times is already ), the computer cannot just construct it with low memory, so I want to separate it as several segments, but when I output them with DAQmx APIs, there must be some loop to repeat the "segment signals", and the loop is not fast enough, so there must be short DC values between sinus segments.
Or if there's some other better way to solve the problem.
I hope I made it clear, and thanks for your patient.

  • Indoor repeater for cisco 1300

    Hello,
We have an outdoor wireless network working with two cisco 1300. One acts as a access point and the other one as a bridge.
We would like to extend the coverage of the bridge... Is that possible? There's one spot inside where signal quality is 80% good and where we could put an indoor signal repeater.
What cisco product could we purchase to do that ? (if possible...)
    Thanks,
    lachapelle

Anyone have an idea if this is possible and what hardware i need to buy?
    Question :
I have one outdoor accesspoint 1300, one outdoor repeater (1300) and I'd like to repeat the repeaters signal with an inside component. Is it possible and what hardware should i take?
    Thanks,

  • Can WRG54G be a wireless repeater for WRG54GC or vice versa?

I have a WRG54GC on second floor off cable modem and works wirelessly to 2 PCs. However, I do not have signal on the first floor opposite side of house. I cannot move the access point as that's where the cable modem comes in. Can the other router I have be programmed to act as a wireless repeater? Or vice versa?. If not, does the WRG54G have a longer range than the WRG54GC?

well..the router only works as an access point..it cannot work as a wireless bridge or wireless repeater ...
in order to repeat the wireless signal , you can get a wireless range expander ...

  • Airport express repeater limitation

    Good day,
I have an Airport Express (AE) configured as base station with two airport express units acting as repeaters. All AE's are first generation with latest software updates installed. Configuration:
Airport Express 1 creating wireless network 2.4 GHz
                   |
                   |
AE repeater 2 configured as "extend wireless network" connects to AE 1
                   |
                   |
AE repeater 3 configured as "extend wireless network" connects to AE 2
All AE's display green light. AE number 2 does repeat and transmit the wifi signal, but it does in fact not repeat the wifi signal. If I take any mobile device near AE number 3, it does not connect to this AE.
Any ideas what could be wrong here?
    Thank you,
    Bart

... I suspected this limitation but Apple does not make mention of this in their documentation.
This is explained here: Wi-Fi base stations: Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations
    Important Note
If another extended Wi-Fi base station ➋ is placed between the primary Wi-Fi base station ➊ and the extended Wi-Fi base station ➌, the extended Wi-Fi base station ➌ will not allow clients to join it. All extended Wi-Fi base stations must be in direct range of the primary Wi-Fi base station
It is also untrue that "everytime you repeat a signal in my configuration, the throughput speed is cut in half. " This was true for WDS but not with an 802.11n "extended" network. The throughput is reduced but the effect is much less than 50%.
The fact that you have a lot of range to conver including concrete walls means that you will have challenges with "extending" a network wirelessly. Wireless signals will be attenuated by such structures. If you can find a way to create a "roaming network" your troubles will be over.

  • Can the Westell A90-750015-07 modem/router be used as an wireless repeater?

I am currently using a Netgear router and would like the Westell to act as a repeater to boost the signal.  Is this possible to do and how?

The Netgear WNR834B can work as a repeater. The Westell 7500 must be the primary router to do this though. Ideally, what you should do instead of repeating a Wireless signal is to use Ethernet to the second router, either through a direct cable run or a MoCa/Powerline Link and set up the Netgear as an Access Point only. You'll maintain Wireless speed and you won't have to deal with WDS.

  • Can Airport extreme be used as a repeater from the BT home hub

can Airport extreme be used as a repeater from the BT home hub because my laptop will be very far away and i currently get a rubbish signal on my Windows pc so when i upgrade to the mac pro i am wonderimg if i could use the airport extreme as a repeater to strenthen my already rubbish signal??

You might want to check with BT to see if they have a device to do what you want.
Using wireless only, the AirPort Extreme will only "extend" or "repeat" the wireless signal if it has been produced by another Apple router. It is not compatible with routers from other suppliers for this purpose.

  • Unable to connect to network through repeater

    Hi
I Cannot join network through the wireless repeater.  My Iphone 4 works fine next to the router but when I walk downstairs it disconnects.  It can 'see' the repeater as the signal goes to full before disconnecting.  I have tried resetting networks ect but this does not help.  Everytime I put the password in it says 'unable to join network' but works fine if I go near the main router or switch the repeater off.
It used to work fine untill I got sky on demand. when I connected this through the repeater it seems to have kicked my phone out??  i have since removed the on demand but still cant get my iphone to work.  My girlfriends Galaxy also doesn't get signal through the repeater either.  Any help please

  • New repeater kills wife's pc

I have a Linksys Wireless G router and my PC is wired directly, and my wife's PC 40' away has a pci wireless card and it works great. I install another PC in our guess house with a wireless pci card and the signal fromthe router is so weak it falls off connection. I installed a repeater in the bedroom 70' away from the router to extend the signal to the guess house pc and it works great, but it kills the wireless connection on my wife's PC. Her pC is inbetween the repeater and the router, closer to the router, but the signal is lost on her pc when the repeater is on. I can turn the repeater off and within moments her PC is working again. Turn the repeater on her signal is dead. What's wrong?
Help, seems like only one will work at a time

What is the model no of the Router...?
What is the model no of the Range Expander ?
Try changing the channel on the Router and the Range Expander...

  • Range and Repeater

Just come over from SKY fibre to BT Infinity 2 ...... not exactly bowled over tbh with ping and speeds but something thats a real pain just now is the TV's up stairs arent picking up the wifi connection particuarly well.  They seemed to work ok with the SKY router so I can only assume that the BT hub is weak.  Not sure if anything can be done to improve it.  I have a repeater i bought some time ago:
    Huawei Wi-Fi Repeater
But it doesnt seem to do a great job and appears to affect general wifi on all my other devices.  For example if using  my laptop and it goes to sleep when i start it again it refuses to work on the internet, its connected with good signal strength but it just refuses to work.  If i switch off the repeater its fine again.
    So my questions:
1 - Is there a way to significantly improve  the signal strength on the Hub itself.
2 - Am i doing something wrong with the repeater or is this just something that happens with repeaters
3 - Should i be looking at a different repeater
    Thanks all

The BT Infinity 2 is an ISP service that has a start and an end, start = exchange and the end = devices
It is a connection all the way along the line from start to end so if at any part of this chain there is a connection problem then it is clearly an issue with BT Infinity 2.
I am not going to get into an argument with you about this but it has nothing whatsoever to do with the Infinity connection coming from the exchange to the cabinet then to your house. It is purely and simply a wireless connection problem from your router or wireless repeater to your devices. It would be the same regardless of whether you were on FTTC or ADSL broadband. ISP only guarantee a wired connection because there are so many variables with wireless connections.
    1) Regarding changing channels the pros are it might give you a stronger signal the cons are it might not.
2 & 3) The repeater does not appear to be dual band ie 2.4Ghz and 5GHz therefore it will only repeat the 2.4GHZ wireless signal.
A wireless repeater is only as good as the signal it gets in. If it is at the limit of the wireless signal from the router it will only repeat that poor signal. You would probably be better with a powerline wireless repeater which gets its broadband signal from a wired connection and then broadcasts that or if possible you should try and move the location of the Homehub to be nearer where you want the wireless signal.
