Repeating Error in Console Log
Hello All,
I Have a 733 G4 with 1 gig of ram, 60 gb harddrive, running Os 10.3.9 that for some reason is running very slow.
I checked the Console Log and found the following two errors repeated somewhere between 50 and 100 times with different time stamps:
Jan 30 15:57:50 Cindy-McNeills-Computer /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/ATS.framewo rk/Support/ATSServer: ATSServer got a fatal exception!! Please check /var/tmp/ATSServer_184.
Jan 30 15:58:01 Cindy-McNeills-Computer /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/ATS.framewo rk/Support/ATSServer: FOExceptionMainHandler caught a fatal exception at 0x00089b90
Does this mean anything to anybody?
Thanks in advance,
David
David --
You might want to do some font investigation on that computer.
See this thread in OSXHints
http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-36580.html
You can run FontFinagler (from here)
http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/
Hope this helps.

Errors in Console.log when using OfficeJet 6210
Just ended a long, frustrating attempt to get support from HP regarding errors that appear in the console.log when scanning to PDF. They claim it's not their software -- The tech actually claimed that their software was thoroughly tested, ships bug-free and that it's 100% an Apple issue.
Here's what gets spewed into console.log:

Should I worry about these errors found in the console log?

The "volumes" was a camera card I had inserted and I was able to view the information on it fine...The only problem I've been having is the battery not charging, but haven't determined if it's the adapter or battery or computer...or all the above (lol, if possible). The computer also used to go to "sleep" a few times randomly while in use...but it hasn't done it again yet...so far...? But I have no idea if any of these errors have to do with that.

We are seeing hundreds of these errors in our console log file:
mediaserver automount[4510]: Can't mount servername.domain.ooo.oo:/username on /private/Network/Servers/servername.domain.ooo.oo/username: Invalid argument (22)
Historically, users have had their home areas mount normally in the dock (as specified in our MCX settings for the group they are in), but of late we have been seeing only some of them getting mounted; and more than this the server is suffering random kernel panics throughout the week.
Any idea?
PaulHi Paul
That would be the one. Stuff also gets logged in /var/log/system.log.
After a kernel panic you could go into single user command line and just see what got logged perhaps?
tail -30 /var/log/system.log
Shows the last 30 entries. I think this is better than doing the whole log because it would take ages to scroll through it all. You could expand this to the last 50-60 entries. You never know it might log something? For example you may see a shutdown cause error followed by a number -93 or -122. You could review the energy saver settings just to make sure nothing is enabled that should be. Possibly the UPS may want looking at?
Hope this helps, Tony -
I have been using Lion provided Screen Sharing for months without incident. Suddenly (I do not believe there was an intervening o/s update), it will not connect. I get a "Connection Error" dialog after a minute or two. The console log shows the same thing w/o any useful info. I can share files with the target mac fine and run time machine without error. Any ideas on what's up?
ThanksCheck the host property configured in KM URL generator service.
Navigate to
System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management -> Global Services -> (switch to advanced mode) ->URL generator Service -> Host
You should use the fully qualified host name and port.

Bonjour printing error in console.log and cups error_log
Hi everyone,
I have a client who has been successfully printing to an HP LaserJet 4000 over his home LAN for some time now. However, this evening he was no longer able to print, with the print queue stopping immediately when he would try.
iMac (Intel) Core Duo, Mac OS X 10.4.8, connected through a D-Link DI-524 wired/wireless router. There is a D-Link DP300U print server connected to one of the LAN ports on the router, to facilitate printing to a printer that has not been connected to the LAN recently.
After using Printer Setup Utility to reset everything, repair permissions, etc., the system still would not print. No updates have been installed since the last week of January 2007, and printing has been fine since then.
The only clue I was originally able to come across was found in console.log:
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
No log handling enabled - turning on stderr logging
snmpInk: Unknown host (SMB-Maui\0321.local.)
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Then, I looked under /var/log, under the cups disclosure triangle, at error_log:
E [14/Feb/2007:20:50:44 -0800] [Job 2] Unable to locate printer 'SMB-Maui\0321.local.' - Unknown host
E [14/Feb/2007:20:50:44 -0800] PID 282 stopped with status 1!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
There is only the one Mac on the LAN, which is not named "SMB-Maui"-anything. I was able to get printing to function via AppleTalk once it was enabled, but the client has been printing successfully via Bonjour for some time and so there seemed no reason why this should simply "happen". No new software has been installed, as he's really quite good about leaving the system alone to do its thing.
Disk Utility repaired multiple print-related permissions errors before I began using Printer Setup Repair.
I'm looking for troubleshooting steps to take beyond this point. While the client is satisfied that he can now print via AppleTalk, I am not and would very much like to resolve the lower-level problem. Please advise?
Thanks much for your time,
MBJHi Phil,
Thanks much! I think you might be on the right track, as I got some unexpected results from Bonjour Browser.
First of all, there's no Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) entry at all—in fact, several others I have present on my own, local system are not to be found on the remote iMac. What the iMac does show is the following:
local - 3
Apple Remote Desktop (net-assistant.udp.) - 1
iMac
(IP address):3283
[(IPv6 MAC address)]:3283
Remote Frame Buffer (rfb.tcp.) - 1
iMac
(IP address):5900
[(IPv6 MAC address)]:5900
Workgroup Manager (workstation.tcp.) - 1
iMac [MAC address]
[(IPv6 MAC address)]:9
(IP address):9
I have reapplied the 10.4.8 Combo Update, with no effect to the problem itself, nor to what is showing in Bonjour Browser.
One other possible clue: A visitor on the home LAN did attempt to print from Virtual PC 7 on a portable they had brought with them. They were unable to do so from Windows XP, but could print properly from Mac OS X. There is no known, causal relation to the problem at hand here - I mention it to be thorough, no more or less.
I'll standby for your further thoughts!
Thanks much for the assist,
MBJ
Hi Mike,
Bonjour is a service discovery system. It doesn't
print. For
that you use ipp or lpr, etc. The reason why
Appletalk works
is that it has its own discovery system. It's older
and
apparently more reliable. Bonjour uses muticast ip
but
unless muticast requests are forwarded can't get
outside
a local subnet.
Once on your net was a machine - probably a samba
server -
named "maul". Must have been, it's in a mib
somewhere. Oh
wait - maybe it's cached in the dlink from its old
days on
the dark side!
Judging from the direction of the slash it was a
Windows
machine (I don't think that's an octal 321). CUPS
thinks
that's where the printer is. Normally cups discovers
the
printers via bonjour, and bonjour must be coming
back
with the wrong info!
But bonjour isn't that smart, something must be
tricking it.
There's a wonderful free utility called "Bonjour
Browser"
which will show you which services are being
announced.
Give it a try:

Let me know what it shows under ipp.

MDNSResponder error in console log.
Hi,
In looking at the console log using appSwitcher I saw the following error many times in a row.
What does it mean? Is this something to be wary of regarding battery life?
mDNSResponder[47]
mDNSPlatformSendUDP: Invalid interface
index 00000006
Thanks and I look forward to your reply.
...BruceI'm going to add a me to this morning, and it took a significant toll on my battery life. The battery dropped 39% over a few hours before I noticed the out of control process. I have reset my phone (top and home until I saw the Apple logo) and that seems to have stopped the process.

2 identical systemkeychains and keychain error in console.log
I hope someone can help me out here. Posted this already under a solved item, by mistake.
I do see 2 identical systemkeychains in Keychain . But in/library/keychains there's only one file. The systemkeychains content is 1: the password for my wireless modem, 2: a Dashboard Certificate.
The same situation in the 2 other (user) accounts on my Mac.
Also I noticed for some time now (every time I log in) this message in the systemlog:(:SecKeychainFindGenericPasswordError= -25308 (secErrStr= User interaction is not allowed.) (Current is : name of my wireless modem. Lately this message shows up now also in the console log.
Thanks in advance...while using Spotlight searching; keychains Ifound something else: Spotlight marks under the folder /Users/my admin.usersname/library 2 items, but at opening the folder it shows only 1 item: login.keychain.
Under Keychains/library it shows 1 item and if opening the folder I find one system.keychain file ?? -
Repeated error in Console - Help needed
Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with a particular error message that is repeating constantly in the console messages list - I'm suspecting that this may be yet another reason for my macbook pro slowing down. The message is listed below and repeats constantly, for instance at 10:13 I had it list in different variations 71 times in the one minute time period.
I've tried my best to research it, and get to the bottom of the issue however I'm now at a dead end and hoping you guys may have some idea's?

****** is the user name of the computer being displayed.
That's just 2 of the message variations however it has multiple formats and changes literally by the second. However it always starts the same and always relates to the .MobileBackups/ path
I suspect it's related to my MS Office for Mac software which is the 2011 version.
I also use a standalone portable hard drive for time machine backups.
However when I turn off the backups and disconnect, the messages keep coming.
Any help/advice appreciated,

Spotlight indexing causing repeated error in console
Hi,
I just recently upgraded my mac to 10.6.8 from 10.5.8. Everything is working fine, except for Spotlight. I know that upon a new upgrade Spotlight will take a while to index the computer, but it has been hours and in console I am getting two repeated messages. The first one appears every minute or so:
Dec 5 15:45:58 marc-cutillos-macbook mds[43]: (/.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/164ED999-5DAD-430E-8FD9-79661D539F03)(Error) IndexSDB in si_writeBackDBO:Error 2 storing dbo(c973f5,430,75,4d02111cfd3ea,0,65089c,30)
Dec 5 15:46:22 marc-cutillos-macbook mds[43]: (/.Spotlight-V100/Store-V1/Stores/164ED999-5DAD-430E-8FD9-79661D539F03)(Error) IndexSDB in si_writeBackDBO:Error 2 storing dbo(c973f5,430,75,4d0211343a689,0,65089e,30)
I have literally hundreds of these messages with the only thing changing is the final numbers before the "30"
The other message I keep getting every half hour or so is the following. I am listing two of these such messages:
Dec 5 13:46:29 marc-cutillos-macbook Safari[283]: Periodic CFURLCache Insert stats (iters: 412) - Tx time:0.005208, # of Inserts: 1, # of bytes written: 11474, Did shrink: NO, Size of cache-file: 8409088, Num of Failures: 0

Lastly, I am getting this error a few times also:
Dec 5 15:18:21 marc-cutillos-macbook mdworker[750]: (Error) SyncInfo: Catalog changed during searchfs too many times -- falling back to fsw search /
I have very few 3rd party apps. I had McAfee but deleted it (although there seems to be some remnants as .plist files) Can anyone let me know of some advice? I would just force quit the indexng through terminal, but I'm very curious what these constant error messages are.BTW, I went off some terminal commands that I saw in another discussion thread by Linc Davis:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3185946?start=0&tstart=0
I typed in the commands and this was my result:

AFP dies 2-3 times daily, "I/O error" in console logs
Repair Disk checked out fine... Is it my network?
Hello Nathan,
Can you post the full log entry? If the error is something like "disk0 I/O error" then I would start looking at the HD disk0. It is possible for a failing disk to pass a DiskUtility repair disk or fsck since the utilities only verify/repair the file system and do not ensure the HD can read every sector on the disk. You may want to verify that you have complete, current and working backups of all the volumes hosted on any disks that are may be failing.
Hope this helps!
