Repeating event sync

I, and a couple other folks I know, have encountered a problem where changes to repeating events made on an iDevice running ios 6.x do not sync properly with iCloud and thus other devices or Macs.
If I edit a single instance of a repeating event on my iPhone 4S or iPad Mini to, say, change the time by an hour for that instance only, it show up properly on the iDevice on which I made the change, but the change never appears in iCloud and thus other devices.
If I edit all future instances of a repeating event on my phone or iPad to change the time by an hour for all future instances, it creates future instances at the new time, but never deletes the originals, so I end up with duplicated events in iCloud and thus on other devices.
If I enter or edit repeating events in iCloud or on my Mac, everything syncs properly across all devices.
I have tried cycling Calendar sync off/on on ios 6 settings and I have tried completely deleting and then signing back into my icloud account on the ios devices with no change in behavior.
I'm certain this problem did not arise until ios 6. I have found several forum references to this problem with respect to Google Calendar syncing, but haven't found references to iCloud syncing.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? I'm wondering if it is related to the Exchange sync bug that was introduced in ios 6. Regardless, it's making a mess of my workflow to not be able to make changes to repeating events on my iPhone or iPad. Changes to all non-repeating events sync fine.

@Soonsay,
Is the repeating event by any chance an all-day event? If so, how did you specify when it ends? I've noticed this problem with all-day events, but it doesn't occur for all repeating all-day events. I once opened an all-day event in iCal and specified that it should repeat ending on a certain day. This displayed properly on the Mac, but included the day after the ending-on day on the iPhone.

  • ICal and Calendar sync one week apart for Repeating events

    Hi,
First Post here. Look forward to sticking around. I have been reading the forum avidly since I received my iphone 3g on July 11th.
So here is the issue: It is in regards to events that I created on my iphone that are scheduled to repeat each week, but then end on a certain day. This works perfectly fine in the iphone so far, but when it syncs with iCal it always ends one week earlier than on the iphone. The iphone will remain the proper date, whereas iCal ends one week early.
I won't go on longer, but has anyone else had this issue? Maybe you should double check your dates if you have any repeated events scheduled in your phone, and compare them with iCal to double check they are right.
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Cam

I guess I should have added that with Outlook, I am connect to Exchange.

  • Problem when sync repeat events with ical

    Hi all,
I've a strange problem that happen when I sync repeated events on my mac versus iphone...
With iCal I can see correctly an events repeated for example for two days... (using the option repeat every day with an end date). After syncing, on imac it will be correct but on iphone (3.1.2) the same event are repeated with one more day added, three instead of two:(
    Any idea about that?
    Kind regards,
    Stefano

    Hi guys, any idea?

  • My iCalendar is not syncing repeating events when I make an alteration, it disappears on the next minute

My iCalendar is not syncing repeating events properly, when I make an alteration, it disappears on the next minute

This is incredibly frustrating for me too!
I have a repeated monthly event for a discount at a store that is offered on the first Tuesday of every month. So I have a repeated event taking place on the 1st of every month. In the previous month I reset next month's date from the 1st to whatever date falls on the first Tuesday.
But ever since upgrading to Yosemite, I am experiencing the same problem as the original person who posted. The date saves on my calendar but does not sync to my iCloud. When I reboot the computer, the date reverts back to the 1st.
I'm thankful I don't have any events that needed to be tracked because ALL of my previous changes in the past have reverted back to the 1st of the month. I would have been in the same terrible situation as yaz999 in having to manually change every event in previous months.
Why hasn't this bug been fixed yet???!!!

  • Deleting a single instance of a repeating event deletes the series

Has anyone noticed that deleting a single instance of a repeating event (e.g. deleting tomorrow's occurrence of a regular, weekly meeting) deletes the entire series? This is when using the calendar via the iCloud.com website. I've had this happen at least 3 times.
    Configuration:
         Ubuntu Linux 10.10
         Google Chrome 12.0.742.91
    Andrew

This happens without iCloud when you sync your calendar to MS Outlook/Exchange - it always deletes the whole series and makes it so I can never delete items from iPhone or iPad.  IOS calendar is pretty lousy - won't let you edit things like the reminder time or location of the meeting, etc.  when it comes through sync with Outlook/Exchange.
Wish Apple would actually make their calendar app useful or let a third party release a better one.  Same goes for managing Tasks. E-mail is pretty good, but Calendar and Task management is lousy.  And we don't even get to rate these apps like we do 3rd party apps.

  • Problems with Repeating Events on Palm and iCal

    Hi,
I'm having a problem with daily-repeating events entered into either my Palm or iCal. When I put events in my palm and sync them to iCal, the iCal calendars look right, but then the Palm events become truncated,i.e. only the first day of daily event will be visible. If I do nothing but just sync again, the events in iCal become weirdly duplicated, i.e. if an event had two repeats, the "original" occurrance will be there, along with a second, starting on next day of the series, lasting for the same number of repeats. Is there any way to make one calendar the overwriting calendar while using iSync? Or do you know of some other fix? This problem doesn't seem to affect other repeating events, either monthly or yearly.
    Thanks
20" iMac with Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   500 GB HD, 2GB RAM 60GB Video iPod

As I just posted in another thread, there are a whole series of 'representation disconnects' between the Palm calendaring application and iCal.
While this article— iSync: About Syncing Recurrent Events Between iCal and Palm OS Based Devices—would lead to you believe that iSync is primarily the issue, it's not: this behavior occurs primarily because of the differences between the calendaring programs in each environment, and only secondarily because of the manner in which records are pushed and pulled by the synchronization framework.
iSync itself is simply another compliant sync client, and there is unfortunately no workaround for the issues delineated in the article.

  • Repeated events duplicate in iCal if modified on iOS

I'm posting a more generalized version of this question (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2603361&tstart=0); encountering the same issue on an iPod Touch syncing over USB would seem to indicate that neither MobileMe nor anything specific to an iPhone is at fault. My apologies if this is in violation of this forum's rules of etiquette.
Here's how I phrased it on the Feedback page, where I submitted a bug report regarding this issue:
If a repeating event is created in Calendar on iPod Touch (4.2.1), then synced to iCal using iTunes (USB cable sync, rather than MobileMe), then edited on the iPod Touch (i.e. the date or time is changed for all future events), then the iPod Touch is synced again, this will result in two repeating events in iCal on the Mac: one that reflects the changed version of the event, and one that is the original version of the event, each following their own repeating schedule. Please advise as to possible solutions.
Any help anyone can give would be much appreciated. She's got an iMac mid-2008 running 10.5.8, iCal 3.0.8, iTunes 10.1.1, and her iPod Touch is a fourth-gen running 4.2.1. She's quite angry about this issue, and I fear she's about to give up on Apple entirely as a result.

Am facing the same issue with an iPad; but this is not the first time I've seen this happen. It has also happened when syncing from iCal to a Blackberry Curve via Blackberry Desktop Manager. Any repeated events - and not just from the iOS side of things - ANY repeated events cause this to happen.
iCal has the correct number of events and times, but as soon as you sync to another device, it becomes unusable. My wife runs a cleaning business where she constantly has to rearrange schedules for repeating customers. As soon as she does it once, she's got 2 copies of the same. Change the event twice, and suddenly she has 4 copies.
    Please help.

  • In repeating events , in the calendar app of Iphone or Ipad,

In repeating events , in the calendar app of Iphone or Ipad, How can I stipulate for egsample: "every second tuesday of the month " or even every last monday of every second month..
These selections work in the Google Calendar. but I cannot find the way to do it in the standard ipad or iphone calendar
all I can find to select are "Monthly , weekly , . I want to be able to select "day of the week " or "day of the month" Thanks ,
    Victor

The iPhone/iPad version of iCal doesn't have this option, but the Mac desktop version does (assuming you use a Mac). Follow the directions below and then sync your device with your Mac and the repeating event will appear in your mobile device.
Open iCal on the desktop. Make a new event. Double click on the event and then click "edit." Change the repeat option to "Custom..." Select frequency as "monthly." Click the bottom radio button that says "on the" to enable you to set which day to repeat on. Close the event info window and then sync your device.
I hope they enable this option in the mobile software soon. It is a glaring omission for a calendar program.
P.S., sorry, I just noticed you didn't include a Mac in your hardware list. I don't know how you'd accomplish this with Windows. Maybe this post will help someone else, though.

  • Can I add non regular repeating events in the default Calendar?

    Hello,
I've recently been using the Calendar app to try to keep track of my increasingly hectic work schedule. One of my jobs is easy to add as it's on the same day each week, so I can just use the repeating events menu. The other two can be any day of the week, but always the same hours, so if I'm cleaning it's always 8.30 to 14.30, but it can Monday, Wednesday and Thursday this week, Tuesday and Thursday the next, just Monday the next, you get the idea.
What I'd like to do is to be able to add an event called 'cleaning' or 'bar work' to a specific day and have the calendar know that means it needs to block off 8.30 to 14.30 or 20.00 to midnight. It can take me 15 minutes some weeks to enter my work schedule into my phone as it is, and if I'm interrupted while I'm doing it then I have no idea which days I haven't entered yet.
Is this something I can do in the Calendar app? If not, is there another app I can do this in, or at least cut the process down in some way? I've tried looking at other calendar apps, but it doesn't seem to a feature they advertise if they do have it.
    Thanks in advance

  • Repeating event doesn't show

Hello, I am having trouble with one peculiar event type in iCal.
I sync a Palm with iCal via Mark/Space. Fairly trouble-free. However, I have noticed one small bug.
My work schedule repeats over two consecutive days and has different start times every second day. For example, on Monday I work 7:00am -3:00pm, same on Tuesday. But Wednesday and Thursday it's 3:00pm-11:00pm, etc. The third rotation is 11:00 pm and ends at 7:00am. I notice that iCal understands the first two sets (I enter one and make it a "repeating event, end on <the following day>), but for the overnight shift, it only displays the first of the two. That second overnight shift does not show up in any view: day, week, or month. My Palm does display it perfectly. Is this iCal not playing nice with events that span midnight?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Interesting... I've reset my Mark/Space and effectively had the handheld overwrite the iCal and restored all of my calandars. One problem solved. My first problem, the one about the second overnight event, persisted.
I opened iCal, clicked on the first overnight event, then clicked on the day (xx) of the "end on date" 3/xx/06. Just clicking on this one thing made the second overnight event suddenly appear. I hadn't even changed the day, I just highlighted it. I repeated this for each of the buggy overnight events and it fixed each one.

  • Repeat events as every week, every 2 weeks, (what about every 3 weeks)

How can I get the Calendar app to let me repeat events every 3 or 4 weeks? I could do this on my "Palm One Tungsten T5 years ago!
Does anyone have a calendar program that would let me do it on a Window 7 PC?
Prefer it on the iPad or iPod touch
    Thanks for any help.

This is very frustrating to me also. I have a Palm Pilot with DateBk which could do this 5 years ago. It is difficult to step back when then technology is stepping forward in so many aspects. I can custom repeat appointment through my Exchange account or Hotmail calendars and they will show up just fine on the iPad, but I would like to push the appointment back the other way. I am trying to do less with computer.
I do have Pocket Informant HD but then you have to sync it manually with Outlook and not Exchange and I still can't sync it OTA with Hotmail calendars. The default calendar is great if it could just catch up on some other fronts like the repeat function.

  • Ending date in repeated events bad

In Spanish iCal, at least, when you build a repeating event and try to write the ending date, iCal only shows you one digit for the month day. Then you need to place your selection there and use up/down arrows to reach the desired final date. Since the first digit of that day is not seen you need to imagine it based on the changing month under the arrows up/down scrolling of days!

Am facing the same issue with an iPad; but this is not the first time I've seen this happen. It has also happened when syncing from iCal to a Blackberry Curve via Blackberry Desktop Manager. Any repeated events - and not just from the iOS side of things - ANY repeated events cause this to happen.

  • ICal repeating events become invisible if using Exchange 2010

I recently upgraded from Exchange 2007 server to Exchange 2010.
I had PREVIOUSLY been impressed by well iCal under Snow Leopard worked with Exchange Server. Everything was great. But, after upgrading to Exch 2010, many of my repeating calendar items became invisible in iCal.
I did some searching on the Internet, and found I am not alone. My service provider support desk was also able to reproduce on their end.
    Steps:
Connect to an Exchange 2010 account using Snow Leopard iCal.
RESULT: All repeating calendar with end dates will be missing.
Workaround: Remove the end date, or use a fixed number of repetitions rather than and end date.
Another Workaround: Get Entourage to sync to Exchange, then get Entourage to sync with iCal. OK, but there seems to be some bugs there too where things don't always sync right.
Since most people use repeating events, Mac users should avoid upgrading to Exchange 2010 for now.

  • Fix for repeating events broken by OCS/Palm?

When I sync my Treo using Oracle Calendar Sync (to my Mac), repeating events are broken into individual items
... and then the events on the Palm are broken into individual events, too!
Has anyone found a workaround for this problem?
Does the same thing occur when syncing on a Windows machine? How about when using Mobile Sync?
Is there any way to sync one-way, so at least the repeating events on my Treo are not screwed up?
    Thanks!

  • Exceptions for repeating Events aren't handled correctly on iPod!?

I have a few repeating all day events set up in my calendar in iCal. If I sync them to my iPod they are transfered correctly.
However, if I move one of them in iCal from say wednesday to tuesday as an exception for this event (for just one week), the event isn't moved on the ipod as well. Instead, after syncing, it shows up on tuesday *as well as* wednesday. In iCal everything is displayed correctly...but on the ipod it is doubled.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Best regards,
    Markus.

    Scott,
thanks for your hint. unfortunately this didn't change anything at all.
I still got my repeating events correct on the mac but doubled on the ipod.
    Any other ideas?
    Best regards,
    Markus.
