Repeating preview photo in iPhoto?

All of my i Photo photos (~11 000) have the same photo showing in the main index. When I double click on any of them, the actual jpg photo is still there embedded under this repeated cover photo. What can I do to allow real photos to be seen in main page?

Back up your iPhoto library, depress the option and command keys, launch iPhoto and rebuild your library

    Hello all,

many thanks for any possible suggestions.

    Salve a tutti,
dopo aver importato le foto nel Mac tramite Iphoto l'anteprima mostra una foto diversa da quella che appare aprendo il file.
    Grazie per possibili suggerimenti.

Are you doing this totally in iPhoto? If so Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window  rebuild thumbnails and if needed repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database

  • Can't view photos in iphoto but I still can in Preview

Recently I changed some of the folder names of my photos in the iphoto library, but now when I want to view them in iphoto they are blank. I can still view them through Preview mode if I go through Finder, but that's a hassle. Also, the photos that I didn't change the folder name I can still view in iPhoto. I use iPhoto 5.
What should I do in order to get things back to normal and be able to view my photos in iphoto??

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
1 - this is the iPhoto '08 forum - your question would be better placed in the iPhoto 5 forum - http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=850 - some things work differently and here people will assume that you have iPhoto '08 and the answers may not work on iPhoto 5
What should I do in order to get things back to normal and be able to view my photos in iphoto??
2 - You should NEVER modify the iPhoto library (or any other database structure for that matter) - you should ONLY use iPhoto to change things. At this time your two choices are to put things back exactly like they were or recreate your library which will lose your edits, albums, etc

  • Printing photos from iPhoto 9.5.1 on my printer yeilds garish two color prints. Exporting the photo from iPhoto to desktop then printing from Preview works fine. How can I get good prints from iPhoto?

When printing photos in iPhoto 9.5.1 with my HP inkjet printer the multitude of colors in the photos are reduced to two, Magenta and Yellow. If the photos are exported to my desktop (MacPro) and printed from Preview, the colors in the prints are fine. How do I get iPhoto to print the colors correctly?

    Brad
What settings did you use in the Export Dialogue?
When you go File -> Export you get a tabbed box with various options. In the File Export tab you can choose to scale the pics, or keep them the same size, change or retain the format.

  • When I try to print a photo from iphoto, I select the photo, click print and the preview shows there is a lot of the photo cut off.  It also prints this way.  How can I print the whole picture?

When I try to print a photo from iphoto, I click print and the preview shows a lot of the photo cut off.  It also prints this way.  How can I print the whole photo?

After selecting File > Print, a pop-up window should appear. Select "Customize" and this should take you back into a panel within iPhoto. Towards the bottom, you should see an option for "Layout". Select this option and choose the correct photo orientation.
    Hope this helps!

  • How do I shrink a photo in Iphoto to fit a standard 8X10 page? I read that I should right-click in the Customize Preview page, but nothing happens

How do I shrink a photo in Iphoto to fit a standard 8X10 page?  I tried to follow Old Toad's advice to right-click the image on the Customize screen, but absolutely nothing happened.

You must think I'm an idiot, Larry, because you have been incredibly precise about your instructions.  However, as I keep saying, when I get to the "customize" screen, and I right-click the preview image, absolutely nothing happens.  I don't know what is wrong, but I can understand why you would give up on me. I simply CANNOT get the option "fit to frame."  Thank you so much for trying.  I think I had better give up.

How can I copy a photo from iphoto to PReview to make it smaller for uploading to a site that requires a smaller image?

I don't think you need Preview.
Select the image and use File->export and you have full control over the size and compression.

  • I make annotations to my photos in iphoto using preview. But once I have made the annotation I do not get the photo back in iphoto into the event from which I took the photo. What am I doing wrong?

I make annotations to my photos in iphoto using preview. But once I have made the annotation I do not get the photo back into the event in iphoto from which I took the photo. What am I doing wrong? I am not using aperture

For the annotations to display on the photo in iPhoto you must setup Preview as the external editor in iPhoto via iPhoto's Advanced preference pane.
After adding the annotations just do a Save.  iPhoto will then recognize the change via a new modified version.  You can revert to the original at any time if you want to get rid of the text.

  • Show device and media in Photo-loader, Iphoto, Preview

    Hello,
I'm new to the " mac World" and I can say I'm very excited about my new imac with snow leopard on it !
Have however one small problem (??)
Fact is that, if I connect either a digital Camera, a Camcorder or just a SD card using the external card reader, it takes a long time (approx. a minute and a half) before Iphoto, or photo-loader or preview show the connected device. (In photo-loader it takes another minute before the media is shown)
The device shows on the desktop instantly after connection, problem is only in photo-loader, Preview and/or iphoto.
Resolution etc doesn't effect the time, tried it already with lower picture resolution. It seems to be the recognition of the devices thats very slow.
Is this normal behavior or is there something wrong ?
    Anyone experience the same ??
    Thanks !
    Gr. Franz

Hi Franz & welcome to the forums.
It seems to be the recognition of the devices thats very slow.
All I can tell you is that the common denominator with those sources is apparently USB, which is typically the slowest bus on your computer.
Not sure what you can do except to try to use at least USB2 devices. All it takes is one older USB 1 type device on the bus to slow things down. How old is your digital camera? Card reader? Camcorder? USB camcorders are usually quite slow for file transfers, in my experience.
For me, the delay seems minimal. I can however, imagine it taking as long as you quote if the number of images is considerable, in which case your example would seem typical.

  • How can i transfer iPhone 3G photo to iPhoto without repeating the same photo to iPhoto?

How can i transfer iPhone 3G photo to iPhoto without repeating the same photo to iPhoto?

Sorry, you question doesn't make sense. If you're trying to import photos, in your camera roll, to iPhoto, iPhoto doesn't import them twice.

  • A number of imported photos from iphoto in imovie project all show the same image whilst the preview before dragging them in is correct. What could be the problem?

A number of photos from iphoto used in imovie project all show the same image when playing back. The previw when clicking and dragging them and also the pictures in the storyline. Yet when playing the clip a previous immage keeps on appearing. What could be the problem?

You created a mess and there is no solution - with the actions you have taken those photos are gone unless you have access to them from some other source - they existed in two place - in your iPhoto library and on your backup drive - you have traded the backup drive and restore an earlier iPhoto library so all you have is what you have

  • Unable to open and view photos in iphoto

I am unable to view my photos in iphoto, or from anywhere else on my computer.  iphoto looks normal but is running very slow.  My thumbnails are all there.  I will click on a thumbnail, but the border turns from yellow to light blue, but the photo does not open for viewing, editing, or slideshow.  I have a MacBookPro, MAC OS X 10.6.8. iphoto version 8.1.2
I have tried to open photos from my external hard drive without success.  Also, I can't attach a photo to an email.  When I attempt any of these things, this type of error message pops up:

Not in iPhoto - you can in preview or many other third party editors

    5. Quickly Mask Part of Your Image
Sometimes you have a picture of a person or an object that’s in front of a confusing background, and you’d really like to see that person without the clutter. Preview has two nifty features that let you do this—Instant Alpha and Extract Shape. To use the first, open a picture and then click and hold the Select button in Preview’s toolbar. From the menu that appears, choose Instant Alpha. Next, click and drag to remove background areas of the image. Start by dragging small areas to see how Preview expands the selection. You don’t have to get everything in one pass—just click and drag again to add to your selection. If you make a mistake, press the escape key to remove the selection altogether or option-drag to deselect particular areas. When you’ve highlighted everything you want to remove, press return to crop the background from your picture.
Using Extract Shape is even easier. Choose it from the Select button menu, and then start drawing a line around the item you want to retain in your picture. As you do this, a thick red line follows your cursor. Make sure to draw entirely around the item you want to keep; continue until you’ve joined the beginning and end of your line. You’ll then see a number of handles on the line. Move any of these if you need to improve part of your outline. Don’t worry about drawing perfectly. The magic starts when you press return—Preview calculates what to keep, and removes your picture’s background. In many cases, you’ll be able to crop out all the dreck the first time, though with some pictures you may need to repeat the process a couple of times.

  • When i double click a photo in iphoto to edit, the screen goes black

when i double click a photo in iphoto to edit, the screen goes black.  I'm using 10.7.5 with iPhoto 9.4.2.  Can anyone help?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
