Replace a clip preserving filters

In FCP 7.03 , how to replace a clip preserving filters already applied?
I know how to do it if I didn't import the files yet ( using reconnect media). But how to do it from clip what I already have
in my project?

"Or you can select the new clip and hit command-c (copy) and then select the clip in the timeline and hit option-v and choose content."
Perfect!! Thx very much!!

  • How to delete the transparent frames that Pluraleyes adds to replaced audio clips in an event ?

    Hi there,
I have a workflow issue working with Pluraleyes 3 and FCPX.
    MY CONTEXT
So I imported all my clips into FCPX (about 300 from camera 1, about 300 from camera 2 and separate audio which ran almost with only very few interruptions on set).
I synced everything with PE which gives me back the following :
    1. a new Event with replaced audio clips.
    2. a new Event with one giant multicam clip.
    3. a new project completely synced BUT with the non-replaced audio clips
    MY PROBLEMS
    1. Problem is that the clips have additional transparent frames before and after their actual video (i.e. PE makes new clips from video and longer bits of audio that do not begin/end at the same time).
    2. The giant multicam clip has plenty of chunks where audio was recorded but where no video was.
    MY QUESTIONS
PE has created plenty of useless clip lengths. How can I get rid of them with some batch process ?
OR if I say that another way
How can I create an EVENT that contains clips with the exact same length as the originals, only with the corresponding audio replaced ? (Please remind that I have LOTS of clips)
Moreover, the clips within the new events created by PE have (not surprisingly) lost all keywords I gave to the clips before syncing with PE. Is there any way to fix this ?
Thank you so much because it feels like PE's job is kinda useless  :-/

It's the Shift key. It's not a button. It's shifts from lower case to upper case when typing. It's been called the Shift key since the 19th century.

  • After "Replace with clip" the original clip can not be deleted from the project - why?

After using "replace with clip" to replace clip A in the timeline with a new clip B , clip A can not be deleted from the project anymore.
If you try to delete clip A, you get a warning, that it still has references in one or more sequences.
If you continue and delete clip A, it seems to be deleted - at first!
Unfortunately if you save and reopen the project, clip A is restored to folder "Recovered clips".
It's not possible to really delete it.
I also did not find a way to unlink clip B from A .
The only thing you can do, is to revert the change by "Restore Unrendered" in the clip context menu. But that's obviously not helping
I dont know if this is a bug or a feature. I understand, that it can be useful to undo the "replace clip" function, but why would anyone not want to be able to delete the original clip at all?
help how to fix this problem is greatly appreciated!
    I use Premiere Pro CC 2014.2 (Win7 64bit)

I'm sure it has nothing to to with other sequences.
You can easily reproduce this behaviour:
    1. create a new project
    2. import 2 clips and name them "A" and "B"
    3. put "A" in the timeline
    4. ALT-drag "B" over "A" in the timeline (or right-click "A" in the timeline while selecting "B" in the project files and select "replace with clip ... from bin")
    5. delete "A" from the project files
    6. save and close project
    7. reopen project
=> "A" reappears in "Recovered clips" and can not be deleted.

  • Aspect Ratio issue when replacing a clip in Premiere CS6 with an After Effects CS6 Composition

Please assist! When I attempt to right click on a clip in my Premiere timeline and replace it with an After Effects composition, I can do so, but problems ensue.
After Effects will start up, but the composition will be in 4:3, even though the Premiere project and clip that I'm altering were both 16:9.
I was able to change the aspect ratio to 16:9 in After Effects and then edit what I wanted, but an hour later when I had finsihed, saved, and gone back to Premiere, it had smushed the replaced clip into 4:3 within Premiere.
    So to reitterate:
When I replace a clip in Premiere with an AE comp, AE opens in 4:3.
I can change the AE comp to 16:9, but when I save and go back to Premiere, it has smushed the AE comp down to 4:3.
What can I do to stop this?

If you right click on the clip in the Project panel, then select Modify / Interpret Footage you will see a Pixel Aspect Ratio.
    What does it say?
If it says 0.9091 then change it to 1.2121
If it says something else, come back and let me know. I will then have a different answer for you.
Also, what is the frame size of the video.

  • How I can to replace a clip in the timeline?

Is there a command for to replace a clip in the timeline? In a recent project I have replaced some clips to hand, deleting the previous and draging the one new in the gap, but this method is dangerous because it is possible moving the edit also.

You could drag the new clip to a track above the one you want to replace. This gives you a bit more security before deleting the old one.

  • Replacing video clip causes project to become corrupted.

I'm not sure if this would be considered a bug or not, but I'll explain what happened.  I'm using CS4 with all Adobe software mentioned below.
I'm working on an animation project that has foreground characters created using Anime Studio Pro software and backgrounds created in 3d Studio Max.  I then use After Effects to composite the two and add effects.  Out of After Effects I'm rendering uncompressed AVI files.  I then bring those into Premiere Pro to edit the whole thing and add the dialogue, music and sound effects.  I sometimes go ahead and include the dialogue audio in the individual clips for reference, but I only end up using the video in Premiere.
Sometimes after I get a shot completely finished we notice a problem, or the client wants a change, etc.  I have to go back and redo the composite in After Effects.  I usually just export over the clip that was already done (and already loaded into Premiere Pro) and the only time this seems to be a problem is if I do it while Premiere is still open (usually causes it to freeze).
But I ran into a big problem the other day where one of the original clips I replaced had some audio in it, and I accidently forgot to include the audio in the one I replaced it with.  At first there didn't seem to be any problem, but when I shut down Premiere and tried to open the project back up, it wouldn't finish loading.  It took me a while to figure out what the problem was.  I ended up going back to an autosave, but if I opened it up and then saved it, the saved project woudn't finish loading any more.  Even if I then moved the file that was causing the problem to a different directory, the project still wouldn't open.
I guess I'm wondering if anyone else has had this or a similar problem, or am I the only one who ever replaces clips on the hard drive that are already loaded into a Premiere project?  I'm used to After Effects which has no problem with you doing this, you just have right-click on the file you've replaced and select "Reload".  I guess I was just expecting Premiere to not have a problem with this as well.

Never overwrite a clip that is used in Pr.  Give the
modified/corrected/updated clip a new name and import that into your Pr
project.  Then Alt+Drag the new clip on top of the old clip in the
timeline to replace the clip instance.
If import-then-drag isn't your style, then right-clicking the original
clip in the Project panel and selecting Replace Footage will accomplish
    the same thing.
This important rule applies in Encore as well.

  • The 'Replace with clip from Bin' command doesnt work... or freezes and crashes Premiere

I'm not exactly sure where I should begin on this issue... re-install?
    Thx,
    David

Yes, of course.    And even if I hadn't, that wouldn't explain Premiere freezing
or crashing.    Let me ask this.    Is there a maximum amount of clips or some kind of RAM use tipping point where Premiere just can't handle anymore references?    That is the only thing I can think of that would possibly cause this sudden glitch or some kind of coding error, like the 'replace with clip from bin' command can only handle 'x' file references somehow...  I have about 300 AVCHD clips and 200 HD .mov files in the project panel.    What do you think?

  • Replacing multiple clips but keeping attributes

    Hello,
I have a lot of clips in multiple sequences that I would like to replace because I have changed the background but I would like to keep the attributes (cropping) of the original clips. At the moment I feel that I have to copy each clip and paste its attributes to its replacement but I'm wondering if there's a way to replace the clips without changing the attributes.
Any thoughts or am I just going to have to paste attributes 67 times?
    Thanks,
    Stef

There MUST be an easier way to do this, I just can't think of it at the moment.
I can only suggest you review your sequences carefully and see if there aren't some shortcuts you can use. Maybe the cropping or motion settings from one clip are used again on others? That would at least eliminate several copy operations. You can do multiple selects and apply a single paste.
Wish I could be more help other than to just kvetch along with you.

  • Replace a clip or frame with other picture or clip and keep the soundtrack

How do you replace a clip or part of a clip by another clip or still and keep the sound from the original clip in iMovie '08?

How do you replace a clip or part of a clip by another clip or still and keep the sound from the original clip in iMovie '08?
Replace the first clip with the second and then extract the audio from the first clip (Cpmmand-Shift drag) and pin it to the second clip.

  • Replace Edit while preserving transition

    Hi all,
I am trying to figure out how to replace a clip on the timeline with another clip.
The first clip already in the sequence has a transition on it.
Is there any way - besides copying the new clip and pasting attributes (content) to the old clip - to overwrite the new with the old while keeping the trasition?
    Thanks
    Doug_

well you could use the the replace edit function (F11)
position the playhead in the timeline over the clip you want to replace.
load the replacement clip in the viewer
    press F11
note that neither the clip in the timeline nor the clip in the viewer need or will reference and in or out markers. clip placement is dictated solely by the playhead position whereby the clip in the viewer will replace the clip in the timeline such that the playhead position is maintained

  • How do I simply replace a clip in this situation...

I have a video clip in my timeline that has been trimed at head and tail. It has a couple of pieces of audio attached to it. I want to replace it with a newer version of the clip witout disrupting my timeline. None of the Replace options put it in the same place, at the same length, with the same in and out points:
    • Replace - Starts new clip at 0:00 and makes it longer, pushing down the timeline.
    • Replace from Start - Starts new clip at 0:00 rather than the inpoint of the clip being replaced
    • Replace from End - Lines up last frame of new clip with the edit rather than the last frame of the clip being replaced.
    • Replace and add to Audition does a combination of the above.
So I wrote down the in point, used Replace From Start, then tried to shift the clip to the right place with the Trim tool. But this now shifts the audio clips along with it, so they must be shifted back.
What am I missing? There must be a better way to do this.

Thanks for your patience Tom. It is confusing to explain in words.
I dare to say, I understand what you try to accomplish, and where your problem is:
you have a clip in your Project.
in the Project, it is not the whole 'raw' clip from the Event, just a selection.
the selection is 60sec ahead of the beginning in the Event.
you now have a 2nd clip, which has the same length in the Event lib as clip#1
what you want is, that FCPX does the same selection in the Event as in clip#1 and replace the content of #1 by #2.
    savy?
all YOU have to do, is simply select manually an IN-point in the Event/clip#2 and then follow advice given before (drag onto #1/replace)
the OUT-point will be calculated by FCPX (3point edit)

  • How to replace a clip that is part of a multicam clip in FCPX 10.0.9

I am having an issue with a project drifting out of sync in FCPX 10.0.9.  In the time line everything is in sync, however when I export a master .mov file the video drifts out of sync.  I believe this is because my main audio is an mp3 file.
MY plan is to convert my mp3 audio to an AIFF file and replace it with the mp3 in my project.  The only problem is that this audio file was imported as part of an hour long musical performance and I took the part I needed  and made it a sub clip.  I then took the sub clip and made that part of a multicam clip.
Is there anyway to replace this MP3 sub clip with my new AIFF file in the multicam clip?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

never good practice to 'bundle' clips, sticking compounds into compounds... and in very rare cases needed/could be done 'better' using the tools 'n features FCPX offer....
Why not simply adding the new audio to your project timeline and synch it?

  • Replacing a clip with a copied clip from the storyline?

I am making a music video.  The chorus repeats itself 3 times.  I worked on a clip in the storyline at the first time the chorus appeared ("desired first clip")  and used placeholders in the storyline for the chorus for the next 2 times.  I then used Command+C to copy the desired first clip but am having trouble using the desired first clip to replace the placeholders for the subsequent placeholder clips. When I place the desired first clip over the placeholder clip it just squeezes in, keeping the placeholder clip.  I guess, if necessary, I can redrag the clip used from the project folder and replace the placeholder clip and then use the attributes of the desired first clip to modify it, but that seems like a lot of trouble for simply replacing the placeholder clip with the desired first clip.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Is the desired clip in the primary or connected? If the primary, copy it and paste as connected. Then use Opt-Cmd-down arrow to collapse into the primary.

  • Replace with after effects composition is replacing one clip with old project

    PP CC 2014
    AE CC 2014
    Windows 7
    Hello,
when I "replace with after effects composition" in PP - After Effects is replacing one *mov clip (only one of hundreds) with an old aep comp, that I was working on yesterday. And say that this aep is missing...
I allready purge all data, deleted all cache (PP&AE) restart Computer...
What can I do...Its really stopping me from reaching my deadline tonight....
    Thanks!

    Ok guys...I got it...
Its not a *mov that it missplaced, its another dynamic link to AE...so dynamic link to dynamic link seems not to work? I accidently linked that clip and worked on it in AE in the old aep from yesterday..but still wondern why AE get confused loading it...the "old aep comp" is full with others comp...could that be the reason...?

  • Issues with replacing a clip in premiere with After Effects composition

So basically, i want to track a title to a piece of footage, so i've made my ins and outs and my footage is placed on my timeline in premiere with my title over top. Now I select the two pieces in premiere (the title and the clip) and I hit replace with after effects composition, and it ADOBE does it's thing etc.
but now in my AE project window I have two copies of my title file and two copies of my mp4 clip.
two of them are pre loaded into my timeline and the appropriate ins/outs which is perfect but I can't seem to do anything like tracking to them,
in my project window AE is referring to the ones that show up in the timeline as "compositions" while the extra files that aren't in the timeline are "mp4" and "psd" (the actual file types)
now. if i just delete the two "compositions" that are masquerading as files in my timeline and drag down my mp4 / psd then my tracking becomes available and all is wonderful
    EXCEPT
my in's and out's from premiere aren't there and I have to go about all of that all over again and it's very annoying
    any ideas?

    Mat,
I'm sure you've figured it out.
I don't know how you got two separate source clips - you should have a sequence (comp) and the footage in the project window (bin window) for each  In your comp, the tracking can be done by selecting the layer in that comp.
And - you've probably already figured it out that you needed those comps so they could dynamically link back to PremierePro easily.
If you have any Ae/Pr questions - I'm going to try to be in this forum more.  I love this stuff.
