  • I am thinking of replacing my laptop with an IPad 2?

I am wanting to replace my laptop with an IPad 2 but I am trying to figure out if its an good idea. I am done with college so the only kind of paper I need to type is a resume. Is this a good idea?

I wouldn't. An iPad is a good toy and a good 'comsumer of data' device, but not so great for data creation. I'd go for the laptop and keep an iPad as a graduation gift idea.

  • Can I replace my laptop with an iPad, and use it as my only computer?

I know this sounds silly, but my husband, who lives in another state right now, would really like to have an iPad rather than his laptop. I know you're supposed to sync the iPad to a computer, but, realistically, how often would that have to be done? Could we get away with doing it every couple of months? Every 6 mos?

The backup is an issue, but you can always mail your work to your self… but the mail server has to be configured the way that mails are not deleted.
The more elegant way is "MobileMe", you can use it as a storage and save your work there.
Keep in mind, the iPad is limited to what you can do with the Apps, so check first if there are some Apps for the work you need to do…
    enjoy your magic machine

  • I want replace my desktop with a iPad to do emails and Microsoft office work. Can this be effectively done? What's the downside if any?

I want replace my desktop with a iPad to do emails and Microsoft office work. Can this be effectively done? What's the downside if any?

I'll go down your list one by one.
    1. Access mail - which I know that the iPad can do.
    Enough said.
    2. Save an excel or word or ppt of PDF attachment for review.
You can view these types of documents natively on the iPad as Tgara has mentioned.
    3. Open an review and maybe change a excel or word file.
There are many apps that allow this.  I personally prefer Apples iWork programs, Pages, Numbers, Keynote.  They tightly integrate with iCloud.
    4. Resave such above files.
With Pages, Number, Keynote you can save/resave files in iCloud and locally.  Also you could use dropbox to save your files on dropbox and provide a way for you to share a folder with coworkers/family and they can add/view/review files from there and you can see the changes on your device.
    5. Reply to a mail attaching a file.
This is possible in many ways.  From dropbox, or another app you can email files with the share button.
    6. Be able to rename files and store them in specific folders.
This goes back to dropbox/iCloud.  iOS doesn't really have a traditional file system.  If you save a PDF it isn't saved anywhere you can just open it.  You would have to open an app that supports view PDFs and select the PDF you wish to view.  The same goes for documents, spreadsheets and etc.
Hopefully this helps answer your questions.

I want to replace my PC with an iPad Air.  Can I sync my iPhone solely with the iPad, not using a computer?

I love my iPad Air. However, you may want to give the idea of using it to replace a full-fledged PC some thought. If your primary uses are websurfing, email. writing, reading, light photo editing, it will be fine. Other things may not work so well on an iPad.

  • Thinking of replacing my macbook with an ipad for travel overseas, can I plug my iphone4 into the ipad for charging?

thinking of replacing my macbook with an ipad for travel overseas, can I plug my iphone4 into the ipad for charging?

    no
the USB does not out out enough power to charge anything.
And if you want to share chargers it's best to share your iPad charger with your iPhone. the iPad charger is a 10W charger, the iPod ones are 5W. So it'll charge, just not as fast as 'normal'

  • I have an ipad, and want into replace my laptop with it. Is there a way of running iTunes from my ipad to allow me to put music onto my old ipad classic without the need for a computer.

Please help me on this issue. I have the latest full size ipad with retina display and want to replace my old hp laptop with it. I currently run an iPod classic and nano from the iTunes on it, but i want to run them off my ipad. Is this possible.

The iPad is not a computer, it cannot replace one, and it cannot sync music or media to other devices.
You need to keep a computer around if you want  to sync ther Classic and Nano. It may also be useful if you ever need to backup the iPad in case a restore is necessarry.

  • Ipod won't sync on laptop with "new" ipad

My ipod with 5,000 music tracks has always been used to sync on my laptop.  I have just plugged into the same laptop my "new" ipad, this has synced.  On inserting my ipod; it asks if I'm sure I want to remove all data and sync with the itune library - what?

Something happened and now the iPod things you are connecting to a different library/computer. See the following for making this "new" computer your syncing computer.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
If all the synced media like apps and music are in the iTunes library it is very easy.

  • Replacing a laptop with Mac mini

I am looking into replacing an aging TOSHIBA Windows PC, and I need to get out of Windows World.  I have been considering switching to the Mac mini.  I was wondering if anyone had any insight into how good of an idea this is, given my situation.
The main reason I don't think I will be negatively affected by portability factor is that my current laptop rarely leaves my desk anyway (literally non-existent battery life, weight, and heat make it unbearable to use in any other place.  I also have several other devices that are much more portable (Chromebook, iPad, phone).
I have also recently gotten into photo and video editing, and my experience using a mac for these tasks has been stellar.
Can anyone foresee any problems this might cause me other than the typical inconviniences that come up when upgrading computers or switching daily OSes?  I like to think I've thought a decision like this through...

I recently did what you want to do but I replaced my HDD with a 512GB SSD and added 16GB RAM.  I also have Paralles 8 with Win7 so I have the best of both worlds and the unit is runs great.

  • Can you replace a laptop with the ipad2? Several related questions.

    Hi
I want to buy an ipad2 to replace my laptop (I pretty much only use it for email, reading website, online gaming, Facebook etc, and don't really feel the need to have one for anything else. Rarely write documents etc.)
    Questions:
Can I use the itunes on the ipad to update and sync my iphone instead of with the laptop or do I still need some kind of pc to maintain this?
Are banking websites compatible with the ipad? I know apple doesn't support flash so am a little concerned about some webistes not working on the ipad. Wondering what kind of problems other might have had with this kind of thing.
Does the ipad work with Microsoft documents and spreadsheets (the few that I do use I would like to be able to do on there?
Are there any other areas that I might have trouble with?
    Thanks in advance

    1) ios5 devices no longer need to be synced with a computer, though they can be. You can't sync your iphone to your iPad, but you can treat each independently.
    2) I've never had a problem with my bank's site. Adobe themselves have abandoned Flash for mobile devices, so in time this issue will become less and less significant. In fact even now it's rarely an issue.
    3) MS office doesn't run on iPad, but Apples iworks suite does. You can open MS office files and even export them back into MS Office formats. In truth it's so simple and straightforward that you quickly forget that they're entirely separate formats. There is also the option of 3rd party Apps, Freeware, that can handle MS Office files.
    4) I found the key is not to expect the iPad to be a laptop with a few differences. It's an entirely separate product needing entirely different inputs. If your use is as you describe, mostly web-based, email etc, then iPad suits perfectly. Where it doesn't suit so well is where lots of keyboard input is required. Good though the ios software keyboards are, they are not the same thing as a physical keyboard. Fedback is entirely different etc.  For that reason, iPad would not be ideally suited if there is lots of that type of input required.
Go for it. I'm sure you'll love it.
    Good luck

  • How to share one laptop with two iPad for iTunes acc

One laptop with two iTunes acc...

It's possible. You just have to be very diligent about signing out of one account to use the other.

  • I cannot sync my laptop with the iPad after update.

After updating my iPad I can no longer sync it with my computer. Before the update I could sync music pictures etc. my computer says the iPad has an invalid signature. Any suggestions on how I can fix this.

I want to add that when I connect ipad with my laptop and launch iTunes my ipad doesn't appear in devices it's greyed out...again all this worked before update.

  • HT204089 I can't sync my laptop with my iPad via WiFi.

I can't sync my iPad Air with my laptop. It's the same laptop, but since my HD had a meltdown, I renamed it. So now, when I put in iTunes that I want to sync via Wifi, it says I can't because the iPad is able to sync with only one computer. It's the same computer! How do I 'delete' the 'old' computer (same computer, but different name) and add my 'new' computer.
Can somebody help? Thank you in advance.

Might be easier to post numbers so other people with exact same settings can compare directly.  Also helps to post screenshots before and after getting the error.

  • I had to replace my laptop but my iPad Wifi sync is still connected

How can I change this. Message in sync says"Sync will resume when "computer name" is available. This computer no longer exists and I would like to unsync it.
    Thanks for any help.
