Replace 'action' and 'cut'  audio with buzz track

I am editing some mxf 1080i footage, and I need to replace the director's calls to 'action' and 'cut' at the beginning and end of shots with some of the neutral atmosphere elsewhere in the shot. Is there a simple and speedy way of doing this within Premiere itself?
At the moment it seems easier to export the sound as an aiff file and then edit them in an eternal program that can copy atmosphere and do an overwrite paste on the intruding bits of sound and them import the file back into Premiere (exported wav files used like this seem to effect the original sound when I export the result into mxf). I have four mono tracks of sound btw. Perhaps there is a VST out there that does the trick?

Copy/Paste doesn't work within Premiere?

Does anyone of you use a HD-camcorder like Canon Legria HF G10 and cut films with Final Cut Express 4.0.1. I did not buy this product yet but ask before. Now I have 4GB RAM and i5 MacBooK Pro. Do any problems exist using FCE having made films with this camera?
I save the films als QuickTime films (mov) and create DVDs with iDVD.
Will the data be too many if I make films with such a camera (HD) so that 1 hour of film cannot be burned to one DVD (or if is not necessary to film with such a good quality because in iDVD the film looses its quality?).

I was able to find this info regarding the camera:
    AVCHD 1080/50i. 1080/25P (Maximum AVCHD 24Mbps)
    Recording Modes
    MXP 24Mbps / FXP 17Mbps / XP+ 12Mbps / SP 7Mbps / LP 5Mbps
The 1080/50i (interlaced) modes will work with FCE. PAL in this case. 60i is NTSC.

I had this same problem and started a thread, but for the most part nobody responded and those who did somehow didn't understand what the problem was.

I'm sure the problem is sweat getting into the apple supplied headphone "remote." Basically even the smallest drop can slide down the wire and get into the unit.
Unfortunately I haven't found a solution other than to get a Belkin remote adapter and some sport headphones. This doesn't give you voice over, but you can still control the volume, skip, etc.
I've been doing this for a couple weeks now and it hasn't had a freak out since.

  • Menu Actions and the Component with Focus

Can a menu selection (like cut, copy and paste) be sent to the component with focus without me having to track and store which component had focus last.
For instance: textfields support cut, copy and paste by themselves (Ctrl-C and so forth), but what is the easiest way to do the same with menus. Do i really have to track the focus at all times and mess around with Transferables and Clipboards and stuff?

Checkout this forum. It seems like there is an answer. You don't really need to create another class like this, just extend TextAction:

  • Existing Actions and Plugins Compatible with Photoshop CS5?

I have actions and plug-in products, and while I've done everything I can to make them future-proof, I'm wondering if any Photoshop CS5 beta testers can speak to whether existing actions and plugins are generally compatible with Photoshop CS5?
    Specifically:
Are existing 32 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing 64 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing actions (both platforms) proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
I'm anxiously awaiting the go-ahead to download my copy to verify everything, but I'm just trying to get a feel for whether I'll have work to do.  I'm hoping for the level of compatibility seen in CS3 and CS4 - all my software worked perfectly with no changes.
    Thanks.

I appreciate you all taking the time to answer, but none of you has actually said what DOES happen with your existing actions / plugins and CS5 beta.
I know that experience with one set of actions and plugins doesn't guarantee operation with another, but if, for example, someone actually stated, "all my old plugins failed to work with CS5" or "they all seemed to work okay" then I'd have a better idea of what to expect.
Please keep in mind I've been developing commercial actions since PS6 and plugins since CS2, and all my software works on all 32 bit versions and 64 bit CS4 on Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64, so I'm intimately familiar with what might happen and what should happen.  Plus I've programmed them to be quite resilient, and I don't expect any of the CS5 feature changes to break them.  What I don't know is whether Adobe has fundamentally altered the plugin interface this time around, or has deprecated any old filters, causing a plugin or action that used to work to fail now.  The word "rewrite" has been used to describe CS5, and that has me wondering.
In short, I'm really looking for actual experience with the CS5 beta here.
Wish I could get the CS5 SDK already.  I don't understdand why Adobe doesn't release that in advance.
    Thanks.

  • 120GB of music and other audio with nowhere to put it.

I have a ton of music and various audio but no hard drive space on my iBook. All my music is stored on external hard drives. I want to get a computer to use solely for iTunes. I don't expect much sympathy, but is there a cheap PC I could get or should I stick with a Mac.

Off the top of my head, two suggestions:
    1. Have you considered purchasing a used iBook/MacBook? Personally, I would rather have one of those than a new, budget-priced Windows PC; especially if I were purchasing the thing solely for use with iTunes. The Windows version does not integrate with the operating system as well as the Mac version does, for obvious reasons.
    2. What Meg said. A terabyte internal hard drive will give you plenty of space, and is a lot cheaper than a second computer.

  • Multi-camera audio with multiple tracks

In Premier Pro 2 I was somehow able to use the automation features to adjust levels throughout my videos on multiple tracks, and that mix would flow through to the multi-camera sequence.
It didn't work in Premier Pro 3.1.1 when I just tried it. I then noticed that the help file says "In order to retain audio from more than one track simultaneously, mix all the desired tracks to a single track in the source sequence, select the resulting audio track, and deselect the Audio Follows Video option."
I opened my old projects in 3.1.1 and the multiple tracks still play in the multi-camera sequence.
1: How was I able to do this before and can I still do it?
2: If I must mix all tracks to a single track in the source sequence, how do I do that? I can't figure that out.

You have two choices, either you can hear the audio for the selected camera, or just audio track 1. You can't hear all audio tracks simultaneously without a little tweaking.
Once you're done with the multicam cut, place another instance in the new sequence on tracks 2. Then delete the video from track 2, and move the audio from track 2 onto track 1. This will allow all audio tracks from the original sequence to be heard.

    Welcome to Discussions, DillonR333
    (1) I am not certain exactly what you are trying to do because hotmail is email. If you merely want to attach a video clip to an email, your iSight can do that without mercury.
    (2) If you are looking for a video chat app that is compatible with the Windows Live chat server, consider the following:
Because Microsoft has apparently changed its protocols, the old Mac alternatives
(Microsoft Messenger for Mac, Mercury, and aMSN) will no longer connect for video.
    For more info, see: http://tinyurl.com/ycxnbpr
    (3) Any video chat apps, including the above, can work with your built-in iSight. If you think you iSight may be faulty, troubleshoot as recommended here:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
    (4) If you have problems video chatting even though your iSight works with Apple apps like QuickTimeX and iMovie, your problem is likely software. You will need to determine whether you are using the correct client app for the chat servers that your contacts use. Ask your contacts to tell you what computer, OS, and application they are using for video chat. From that info, we can determine which software you need to run to connect to the same chat server they are using.
    (5) If your problem remains although you have compatible client software and your iSight works with Apple apps, you may have a bad download or install of the software. You can try downloading and reinstalling again.
    (6) We will watch for your status update. If you need more suggestions, give as much info as you can about what you are trying to do and what you have tried that does not work. We will offer more specific suggestions based on the details in your reply.

  • IPod and no audio with .m4v movies

OK I downloaded and installed iTunes 7.0.1.8 and synced my iPod was told I needed to update the software on my iPod to version 1.2. Now on some, not all of my .m4v files there is no audio on the iPod, the video plays fine on the iPod, and the .m4v file plays fine in iTunes, with audio. But on the iPod there is no audio. Other .m4v files play with audio on the iPod. Things I've tried:
    1. I've reconverted the files, and re-synced them to the iPod, no change.
    2. I've tried other files, some have audio, and some don't so it's more than one file, and more than one source.
    3. I've tried to restore my firmware on the iPod, you can't by the way anymore. All I can do is reload the 1.2 version! Bad apple.
    4. There is no indication on the iPod that there is a problem, just no audio. In the get information area, I've boosted the audio to max, with no change on the iPod.

Well the problem seems to be in how iTunes converts video, I download MPEGStreamclip1.0.1.zip from SQUARED 5 installed it and converted the file and I now have audio! It's an extra step, but if you need video and want sound, it's the way to go.

  • No display and no audio with vlc

    Hi,
I can't use vlc for quite a bunch of time (6 month?). When playing a video, DVD or Divx, it won't display no video and no sound is played. A 9 minutes long stream would be red in about 4 or 5 seconds.
I already tried: rm -rf ~/.vlc
    It won't improve anything.
Someone is having the same issue? I didn't found any bug report.
If maybe you don't have any suggestions about how fixing this, maybe you could suggest an equivalent application?
I'm using smplayer which works fine on divx files but it would not work properly for DVD and I don't want to compress all DVDs!! Smplayer simply does not display all subtitles which is quite annoying!!

start vlc with vlc -vv, play your movie and paste the log

The OP is asking about FPGA, not RT.
RT is fine with the Quotient & Remainder.  It'll take a few clock cycles of your processor, but that is nothing in the rates for an RT system.
An FPGA is a different beast since you need to look at how much of your FPGA hardware you are using up.  Bit shifting (which is what the power of 2 actually does) is dirt cheap in an FPGA.  But divisions are really expensive to do.  But since you are dealing with powers of 10, you are kind of stuck.  Hardware (FPGA in this case) works best when dealing with binary (ie powers of 2).
So what device is this one?  How fast do you need these outputs?  It might make sense to pass some of the data up to the RT system and then the RT can pass the results back down to the FPGA for actual output.

  • Cutting and pasting audio tracks?

Im working with mpeg-1 files that have been converted with mpegStreamclip, everythings working great, but i haven't figured out how to cut and paste audio tracks in the timeline. I am trying to copy and use sound extracted from the muxed mpeg. I want to add this ambient sound to run under stills. Any suggestions?

    Hi Susan
    1. Set TimeLine to audio edit = three tracks.
    2. Is there audio on track two or three ? If not. Select clip with needed sound. Advance menu/Extract sound.
    3. Now there is a sound portion under the selected clip. Click anywhere (un-select) and now select
    the audio portion.
    4. Move the Playhead (line witrh yellow triange in top) where You want Your cut in the audio clip.
    5. cmd-T [apple-key + T] = a Cut
    6. Move the portion in under a still (or make a copy first and move that-one)

  • Encore CS3 - Hangs and import problems with menus and avi footage with audio tracks present.

I'm trying to import some footage files in .avi format into Encore CS3 and am having several problems.
In what follows when I say "crash" I mean Encore quits with a standard Windows error. When I say "hang" I mean Encore does not quit but rather becomes an unresponsive process that must be killed manually using Windows Task Manager.
    My System:
    WinXP Pro SP2
2.93 GHz Intel Celeron CPU - single core
    Intel PERL mobo
    3GB 400MHz RAM
    NVidia 7800GS video
I mention these specs however I am not experiencing any hardware
related bugs or issues (like out of memory or video driver crashes
etc) when using any CS3 app.
The footage files (as reported by GSpot) and problems I am seeing. In all cases GSpot reports that I have the appropriate codec installed:
    footage1.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, Dolby AC3 48kHz 192kb/s, 716834 KB
Attempting to import as timeline causes Encore CS3 to hang.
Importing as an Asset allows it to import but when I try to click
on it in the project windown to add it to a new empty timeline,
Encore hangs. It plays fine in Windows Media Player.
    footage2.avi - Dx50 XVid 1.0.3, MPEG-1 Layer 3 48kHz 128kb/s, 718302 KB
Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no audio.

Imports fine as either a timeline or asset but no audio track comes
with it, even though there is an audio track in the footage. It plays
fine in Windows Media Player. Video imports perfectly, just no
audio. I tried converting this one using AVS to both MPEG3 and DivX,
each using MPEG1-Layer3 44kHz 192kb/s audio, and got the same issue
upon importing into Encore CS3. I also loaded it into Camtasia
Studio and it looked fine over there. The audio was present and I
was able to export it as a .WAV file. When I tried looking at the
file in Soundbooth CS3, there was no audio track or, more
accurately, the audio track was a flat line.
By way of comparison these are importing perfectly:

Although this one imported & transcoded correctly, when I went to
build it to a DVD image file I got some strange errors during the
"planning video" stage that prevented the process from completing.
Unfortunately I neglected to write down the error message I recieved
which read like quite nonsensical babble to me, and I have since
deleted the project folder. I remember it was not a memory or
display related error and it included a timestamp where the error
was happening. I played the footage in the preview panel thru the
identified timestamp but it previewed perfectly without even a
jitter in either the video or audio. Took forever to transcode so I
doubt I'll be doing this one again anytime soon.
Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the

Another issue I am having is with the motion menus. I burned a DVD and it does not load correctly in one of my DVD players (a Sony rdr-gx330 recorder/player). It appears to take extra time to recognize the disk, the startup (first-play) menu does not show automatically, and I must press the Main Menu button on the remote control to make it appear. Other than that it seems to play ok in that player. Also tested it in 2 other DVD players (a Panasonic and Zenith) and it worked just fine like it's supposed to in them. Also plays perfectly in my computer's DVD player/burner using Windows Media Player v10. I tried burning to Memorex +RW single-layer single-sided disks at 6, 7, & 8Mbps project settings but got the exact same result every time.
Encore CS3 crashes fairly often during authoring, particularly during imports, and when I go to edit things like calling up a timeline in the timeline panel, dragging footage into an existing timeline, or changing button links in a menu etc.. I have also experienced seemingly random hangs even more often, probably 5 or 6 times as often as a crash. Saving the project after every little change I make, then closing and restarting Encore allows me to make progress albeit at a significantly reduced workflow rate. Accessing Photoshop from Encore appears to be working flawlessly so far aside from the slow load times. Encore hangs sometimes during video transcoding, repeat the process and it works ok. If I try to import a menu from the library after importing my footage files, Encore hangs trying to import it either at the 50% mark or the 99% mark (it varies even with the same exact menu selected from the library). If I import the menu first and the footage after, then no problems. Also trying to render motion menus after importing footage causes Encore to hang, render before footage import and everything works ok. Interestingly enough, previewing my project in Encore's monitor or preview panels works perfectly even in High quality mode -- in fact it operates quite smoothly in comparison to other apps I have tried. Although those footage files that had missing audio tracks on import obviously played silently, I have yet to experience a hang or crash during a preview or when scrubbing through a timeline in the monitor panel.
The last problem I've seen is with the project cache files. It doesn't always get rid of cache files when stuff is deleted from the project. I was working on one project and surprisingly ran out of disk space. When I tracked it down I found that there were some two dozen copies of a footage file I had repeatedly imported and deleted from the project still sitting in the cache folder. The file was an avi about 2GB so it was taking up some 40 GB of disk space for stuff that was no longer in the project. I tried shutting down Encore and manually deleting all the cache files, and that worked for most of them, but there was one 2GB file that kept reappearing in the cache folder even though it was no longer in the project. The XML file in the cache folder still had references to it in there so I can only assume that was the reason it kept showing up. I eventually had to delete and totally recreate the project from scratch to regain my lost disk space. This included having to sit thru a 6 hour long transcoding session which pissed me off to no end.
Encore CS3 appears on the surface to be a very powerful, feature rich, and approachable app with a simple easy to use interface, but it is awfully bugged in just about every area I have explored and still needs lots and lots of work for it to be really useful. Frankly for me it is pretty damn annoying that I have invested so much money in this suite only to find several of the apps in it (Encore & Premiere in particular) behaving this poorly. In my opinion every single app in the suite exhibits lousy performance whenever you must do anything at all involving the disk from the time you click to start it up until the time you click to close it down. Several of them are just as seriously bugged as Encore too, and being a long time Photoshop v5.5 user I expected much more from Adobe. Even Photoshop is two or three times as slow now (e.g. it takes about 20-30 seconds to simply create an empty 500x500 pixel image file and almost a full minute to load a 30x60 pixel single-layer gif). So far I have attempted to create 6 DVDs using Encore and after 3 weeks of effort have only succeeded in getting one of them onto a final disk -- and that one is kinda limping to work correctly in my DVD player. Three of those projects became so corrupted while working on them that I had to delete them completely and recreate them from scratch, only to find that I still couldn't get them to completion for one reason or another. Seriously disappointing.

  • Working with 2 tracks of Audio from a wedding, Groom Mic and Ambient?

    Hi,
I am working on a wedding where the Groom  is at the Alter and he is wearing a Lav. Mic on his jacket.
This is plugged into Channel 2 on the camera.
Channel 1 channel is just ambient.
I brought the footage in as 2 Mono Tracks ao I can separate the channels.
When they were on the timeline, I Unlinked all of the tracks. I then deleted Track 1 off of the timeline (Ambient), I copied and Pasted Audio Track 2 onto Audio Track V1 so both tracks are now the Mic on the Grooms jacket.
His audio was up and down so I had to make razor blade cuts before he spoke everytime to fix his levels. I then went into Audio Gain and, depending on how loud or soft he was, I adjusted the Audio gain volume in the dialog box for everytime he spoke.
Was this the best way to do this?
Is there a better way to separate the channels and do what I just did to get the levels right?
Is there a way to Highlight all of his clips, His clips only, and tell Premiere Pro CS 5.5 to make all his levels at -6?  That would be the best option. Then, if neccessary, I can just go in and tweak a few that still were too loud or soft.
    I come from FCP 7

I copied and Pasted Audio Track 2 onto Audio Track V1 so both tracks are now the Mic on the Grooms jacket.

you did this in order to center the groom's audio)
