Replace Bridge CS5 with Bridge CS6?
Hi All (my first post, whoop!),
Having been using Photoshop CS5 with Bridge CS5 happily for sometime, we've now purchased InDesign CS6 which has installed Bridge CS6.
Can I uninstall the now redundant Bridge CS5 without upsetting Photoshop?
I have searched this forum but couldn't find an answer (maybe I missed a thread somewhere).
Thanks for your help,
Matt
p.s. We use Macs.
No, you cannot uninstall Bridge separately. It's simply not possible for technical reasons. Bridge CS6 can use PS CS5, though, and conversely, PS will happily use a newer version of Bridge without much ado, give or take a few specific cases. Check the file associations in Bridge and your system in general.

How to Transfer Colletions from Bridge CS5 to Bridge CS6?
How to Transfer collections from Bridge in CS5 to CS6? I tried to copy my collections to the new Bridge but for some reason I do not see an option. I tried putting on Keywords on my collections so that I can pull them up again but for some reason it won't write keywords anymore? What is the best approach to transfer collections. Thanks. KC
What is the best approach to transfer collections. Thanks. KC
On a Mac both the keyword file and collections are stored in the user library (by default hidden in OSX lion) in the user account.
The path on Mac:
user / library / Application Support / Adobe. Inhere you should see both Bridge CS5 and bridge CS6 if you have upgraded while the older system is still on your system.
In Bridge CS5 you see several folders and files. The keyword file that has all your in CS5 created keywords is called 'Adobe Bridge Keywords.xml' and the folder called Collections should have all your saved collections in it.
You can copy the keyword file to the same location in CS6 and also the content of the collections folder can be copied to the CS6 folder.
After restarting Bridge CS6 they should reflect the correct collections and keywords.
Don't know the path on Windows but it might be similar. -
Adobe browser hangsup. I then get the problem report, but it will not let me send it. THanks for any help. Here is a copy and paste of the report:

You can buy the retail disk at online resellers or the Apple Store for $29. It'll be at version 10.6.3 or .4; you can then update to the latest via Software Update to 10.6.8.
In the meantime, you might want to consider to also contact Adobe; ask about the compatibility and if they want to see the report. -
Different Menus in Bridge CS5 and Bridge CS 5.1
For some reason the Tools menu has options in the CS5 that are not available in CS5.1 of bridge. Why is that? I'm also missing startup scripts that are discussed in the help files? How can I get the menu commands that are in CS5 into CS5.1?
I have attached screen shots of my issues. Bridge CS5 versus Bridge CS5.1
Any help would greatly be appreciated!Dear Omke,
Thanks for the advice but as I said before nothing seem to work :
first: I'm affraid there is no such thing as photoshop CS 5.5 :
"Photoshop users, rest easy—-there are no enhancements or new features in this update for Photoshop whatsoever, so Photoshop will remain at CS5, though there is a free patch so it will be able to connect to mobile apps that may be released in the future but just so ya know—-it is NOT a 5.5-level upgrade like the other CS5 products are getting." quote from the Adobe.com site.
I'm running Photoshop CS5 12.4.0 x 64 : as far as I know the latest photoshop version.
There is always just one version of bridge or photoshop open.
Bridge CS 5.1 came with InDesign 5.5. And InDesign 5.5 only seems to work with Bridge CS 5.1.
I already tried to copy the start up scripts for Bridge via computer (root level, not user account) / library/ application support/ Adobe /Bridge CS5/Startup Scripts but there seems to be nothing in that file so I revealed the hidden files on my Mac but nothing showed up....
Now I notice that you suggest another path : computer (root level, not user account) / library/ application support/ Adobe /Start up Scripts CSxx.
But I don't see any Start up Script file in that location.
So I'm stuck.
I need to switch from Bridge CS5 when working with Photoshop CS 5 to Bridge CS5.1 when working with InDesign CS5.5.
That is not what I paid 749,-€ for !!!
If this was a restaurant dish with a bug in it, I would send it right back to the kitchen and have the restaurant closed for bad hygenic conditions ! -
Photoshop CS5 with Bridge CS6?
I want to use the tool function in Bridge CS6, but it is not showing Photoshop CS5. Can I connect Photoshop CS5 to Bridge CS6 and if yes, how can it do this?
ThanksI just checked and tried to re-install Photoshop CS5, but the CD doesn't actually include Bridge, so I am back to square one.
Any idea how I can link the two together?
Thanks -
Migrate Bridge CS5 Collections to CS6
Is there an easy way to migrate collections from Bridge CS5 to CS6? Or do I need to create them all again?
Any help will be appreciated. So is mine today. I have no idea what's going on. Bridge 6 migrated my custom workspaces, my keyword list and yesterday my collections were visible. Went into 6 today, workspaces are still there and usable as is my entire keyword list I was building in 5 for my scans but hadn't applied yet, but no collections. Only explanation is I'm going nuts.
I'm sure they were there yesterday, because they worked much faster then the collections in 5. I'll keep playing and see if I can duplicate what I saw yesterday.

Can't associate bridge cs5 with nef raw files
I have been trying to get win 7 to associate the bridge CS5 executable with NEF files.
It worked fine for CS4 and yes, i am going to file associations and choosing the bridge.exe for cs5 under x86 programs. It just ignores the choice and won't put it in the recommended program area.
I tried from the exploreer and control panel.
If i double click the bridge.esxe, it opens properly. it's just the auto associations which don't work.
Any suggestions?
thxNo it can't. It is possible to do but the process requires a using a fair bit of code to create a logo/watermark then using a cutom script to write the logo/watermark, the results are not good unless a background to the logo is used. It does take a fair bit of time to do each one though, so it's not something I would persue or spend time developing.
Here's one example, cr2 to jpg and text added, done in Bridge only! -
CS5.1 replaced my CS5 with problems
I have written this a few minutes ago but th forum shows only a blank sheet
Following the advice of a knowledgeable individual, i attempte to consolidate my many actions into a single master folder and to use aliases in the appropriate folders oc CS5 and CS 6, to avoid clutter.
After i finished, WHATEVER it was that I MAY HAVE DONE, i attempted to restart CS5. I was shown a message that some important files were missing and that I must reinstall CS5. I then uninstalled CS5.
I could find only a .dmg file for CS5.1. It was already present on my hard drive. I ran that installer and now I have Photoshop CS5 and a Photoshop CS5.1 folders, along with the appropriate bridge, manager, prefs, folders, etc.
Now both of these apps appear to run fine but there is a problem with prefs. Also, i don't know which of these to delete, and which associated folders. I suppose all that are labeled with CS5 or with CS5.1.
any advice other, than "be very ashamed"?
thanks,
vinceNoel, thianks for responding.
no, i was referring to "action" files.
i had CS4, CS5, and CS6 installed on my imac wirh lion.
these were installed in sequence as they became available. I don't recall copying actions from older versions to newer ones, and just assumed that adobe did this during installation.
i became aware that in each of the folders, for these three versions, that there was a preset folder, each of which contained and actions folder.
The actions were much the same for each version. I asked a fellow member of this forum about this. AS I UNDERSTOOD THE REPLY, he said to create a single folder "anywhere" on the disk, place all the actions into that folder, ( without duplicates), and that once this was done that i could make aliases for all these actions and drag a set of "aliases" into the actions folder present in each versions folder (could anyone follow this sentence?).
I did this. i then attempted to run CS5 and saw "important folders missing. you must reinstall CS5" (to paraphrase).
The rest is error on my part. I own the orig disk for CS5 but somehow forgot that. I found, on my hard disk, a dmg that said CS5.1, didn't notice the ".1" . i installed and now had CS5.1 on my disk, as well as the other 3 versions. i have fixed all that.
Still, i have complete original action files in each of my actions folders for all the versions that i have installed.
It was even more complicated than this long story above.
if you have some advice about where to put actions..... i have proven i will chance most anything.
thanks for your curiosity,
vince

Bridge cs5 camera raw 6.5 to 6.5 and new bridge cs6 preview problem
Hi,
when i actualize camera raw from 6.5 to 6.6 the preview can`t give me right preview after 1 adjustment in camera raw.Image apears like when we open it in camera raw and it last few seconds with the yellow exclamation mark.
Months ago the only solution i found after several instals was to turn back to camera raw 6.5.
Now im trying beta bridge cs6 and problem come back for me again.
I use Nikon D3x with 14 bits ~49MB .nef files in Windows 7 64 bits.
Is any one have same problem? And why only in 6.6 (and new camera raw 7.0) and not in 6.5?
Thanks

The Canon 6D id NOT supported by ACR 6.7.1. It was supported for the very first time in ACR 7.3 whch requires CS6 to run.
Therefore you will never be able to open raw CR2 files from the 6D directly in CS5.
If you do not plan on upgrading, you can download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 (always use the latest version, it's not tied to your version of Photoshop at all), install it like any other application and then run it on each batch of CR2 files to convert them to raw DNG files that you can then open in your version of Photoshop and ACR. -
Bridge CS6 Trial and Bridge CS5
Hello
I have just installed Photoshop CS6 trial with Bridge CS6 and notice that as in Bridge CS5, in Bridge CS6, the previews of thumbnails do NOT show sharpening and NR applied in ACR7, even after purging the cache and setting monitor size preview. Is there any reason why? It means that if I run a slideshow, some of the editing in ACR does not appear in the views.
Surely the monitor size preview jpegs should reflect all work changes made in ACR.

Presently I have installed on my computer (Windows platform) Photosop extended, Dreamweaver, Premiere pro, encore, all of them CS5
Can I upgrade only Photoshop to CS6 with Bridge CS6 ??
Will Bridge CS6 co-exist with Bridge CS5, or will it overwrite Bridge CS5, in which case, what will I do with my other CS5 software?Bridge CS5 and Bridge Cs6 will Coexist on the same machine together.
The CS5 apps will invoke Bridge CS5, and the CS6 apps will know to invoke CS6 bridge.
You can however only have one instance of Bridge running at any given time -
Bridge CS5 won't open at all, crashes immediately
Hi you guys,
I have been using Photoshop CS5 for a number of months now, without any problems. Yesterday, just suddenly, Bridge just bombed out. And I mean it crashes completely, not even a spinning ball or a 'stop responding', it just disappears from the screen. The first time the crash generated an Apple Crash Report, as well as an Adobe one. After that, when I click on the Bridge icon, it bounces, no dot appears on the dock under the icon and after a while the icon stops bouncing and another Apple Crash Report gets generated. It does not generate an Adobe crash report because, I suspect, the program does not go far enough.
I have tried the following:
Option clicked the B Icon - straight to Apple crash report.
Open B in PS, PS works perfectly and stays operational, but B generates an Apple crash report. I also tried mini B, the dock opens with message "waiting for Bridge", and nothing further happens.
Checked permissions in my Library for the following, all well:
Caches/Adobe/Bridge CS5
Application Support/Adobe/Bridge CS5
com.adobe.bridge4.plist file
Verified and repaired permissions in DU, just in case. No luck.
Created a new user account and tried to open B - straight to Apple crash report.
Deleted the PLIST file and the items in Cashes (as suggested in another tread) - straight to Apple crash report.
I have not yet tried a reinstall. I upgraded to CS5 from CS3 and I still have it sitting on my hard drive. In a previous thread I asked what to do with CS3 and the consensus was to leave well alone. Everything worked and I did not need the disk space. In fact, Bridge CS3 still opens without a problem. If a reinstall is necessary, how do I go about it then? Do I
deregister CS3 and CS5 and uninstall and reinstall the whole lot?
deregister and uninstall and reinstall CS5 only?
don't deregister and just reinstall the whole lot without uninstalling it first?
don't deregister and just reinstall CS5 only without uninstalling it first?
And if I have to uninstall, do I have to run one or all of the cleanup utilities of Adobe?
I have also not contacted Adobe help because I have an American copy of Photoshop and live in Europe. That disqualifies me from Adobe support.
Here is my system:
iMac 5 with 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Mac OS X 10.6.6
Adobe CS5 12.0.2
Bridge CS5 4.0.4.2
Thanks in advance!
Jay

Message was edited by: JfromSAHi guys,
Thanks for your time and trouble. Much appreciated.
I haven't been back because my iMac went from bad to worse and in the end I've had a complete system crash. The 2007 iMac G5 I have, is notorius for screen problems. Mine went pop in 2009 after only 18 months of use and was replaced by Apple after a war of words and overwhelming evidence of similar problems for that model on the internet. During that episode the machine was shut down with the power button several times, by me, by the shop and also by the technicians who had to diagnose and repair the computer (I have often wondered why Apple does not have an equivalent of the 'Windows' button, because via that it's easy to shut down a PC blind: Windows button>U>Return . . . the OS shuts down. Not clever of a company who regards themselves as 'Quality' with a self proclaimed capital Q). I suspect my computer picked up some hardware damage with the constant hard shutdowns. I was actually waiting for the next problem, I never really trusted the machine completely. But, as time passed, I got relaxed about it and did not notice the small signs developing like Bridge (and to a lesser extent, Photoshop) actually slowing down more and more the last couple of weeks. Now, in retrospect I can say that, but it was really very subtle. I did, after the screen episode, got into a routine of backing up my system regularly.
After the Bridge problem began, I tried a re-install, a Time Machine restore and eventually started fiddling with Disk Utility, trying to fix the hard drive. To make a long story short, all I get now when I power up the machine is a white screen with a spinning disk under the Apple emblem. I do know that the internal hard drive had issues because that was reported by Disk Utility, I still do not know what the damage is because I still have to take the machine in for repairs.
In the meantime, I am working on another iMac. I have installed all my software from scratch and I'm now trying to restore my old system - my PS actions, ACR actions, all my mails and other documents and my music. The problem I now have is that I had my user account encrypted with File Vault, while backing up with Time Machine. To everyone doing that, please don't - turn File Vault off and then back up. All my carefully backed-up files are now encrypted and can only be accessed with my broken computer! I can NOT restore my system to another computer! With older versions of Mac OS X (and, probably Time Machine), it's possible to use Finder to navigate to the encrypted back-up folder, double-click it and access your data with your master password and restore it by simply dragging and dropping the files on the new computer (but under no circumstances delete or change the back-up files in any way! And applications would, most probably not drag and drop without a problem, but there I stand to be corrected). With OS X 10.6 it is not possible any more to access data via Finder in that way. I know, because I can access my data up to end 2009, the rest is there but not accessible. I have searched everywhere on the internet and as yet, have not found a solution.
The other problem with Apple, I found out, is that in normal operations, it works so well and all is so easy that I don't really read any instructions. There is no need. Everything just happens, it's actually too intuitive. Not once, while setting up File Vault or Time Machine, was I warned that it might be a problem. Now, when I poke around on the internet, there are many posts that warn against that but I did not search for them because I had no clue! I just hope, after the faulty parts on my G5 is replaced, I can get into my back-ups. I shall keep searching and trying to find a solution. If I get one, I shall post here again for those of you with similar problems. I know this is no longer a Bridge or Adobe problem, I just thought I must report back, maybe the knowledge will help someone else.
Cheers,
Jay -

If you do not plan on upgrading, you can download the free, stand-alone Adobe DNG Converter 8.3 (always use the latest version, it's not tied to your version of Photoshop at all), install it like any other application and then run it on each batch of CR2 files to convert them to raw DNG files that you can then open in your version of Photoshop and ACR. -
Closing Bridge CC with Photoshop CC
Why doesn't Bridge CC close with Photoshop CC as Bridge closes with Photoshop CS6? When I close Photoshop CC I now have to also close Bridge CC - just another steip but I'd like it to close automatically with Photoshop CC. Thanks
To explain a bit more because I think you are confusing some things: PS CS6 uses Bridge CS6 and PSCC uses Bridge CC. Bridge is version specific and uses dedicated start up scripts per version.
In CS5 (I believe, can't check myself) there was an option bar with a bridge icon to start Bridge from PS. The command 'Browse in Bridge' in PS file menu has been there as long as I can remember. It either switches to the Bridge application itself or if it was not active already this starts Bridge also.
While you can have multiple versions of Bridge installed on your systems you can have only version active and open at the time. Yet you are able to have both PSCS6 and PSCC open and working as you can with other Adobe apps like LR (e.g. both LR4 and LR5 can open and active at the same time) yet Bridge allows you to have only one version open.
I don't know why this is (can't think of a valid reason other then 'as designed') but it is a fact. You can try your self, have Bridge CC open and try to start BridgeCS6, the focus switches to the already open Bridge CC
MiniBridge is a panel in PS designed for a shortcut to Bridge itself so you don't need to switch between applications to reach your content. However the panel only works when Bridge itself is also active. MInd you, CS6 connects with BridgeCS6 and so on.
It works more or less like the other panels, you can change its size and location (dock it to others or use it floating) like you can with panels like layers, history etc. You can also create your own workspace with or without the MB panel. Like other panels you can select it in the PS menu Window, only it is under the submenu 'extensions'.
Mini Bridge could be a great feature but they screwed it in CS5 and beyond, it is hard to use nowadays (only as a floating panel you can have multiple rows and columns for the thumbs to name an important flaw). If you want to use the combination of LR, Bridge and PS for your own reasons then I would suggest to start with LR and export those files to a particular folder.
Then open Bridge to point it to this folder and take a few moments to let Bridge cache its content. Meanwhile create a collection of those files (select them all, click on the new collection button in the collection panel and name it properly.
Then in PS open MB panel and choose collections and select your newly saved collection name. just my 2 cts btw -
How can you reset your Photoshop version default in Bridge CS5?
After installing Photoshop CS6 , I have decided my workflow is much better in CS5, but cannot get Bridge to acknowledge Photoshop CS5 with keyboard commands [ex. command O] after deinstalling Photoshop CS6.
I assumed this would have been a Preferences option but it is not.
Please tell me this can be done.
Personally, I find CS6 really slow, specifically with keyboard functions. CS5 would allow you to cue several tasks while it's working on present task. CS6 won't even let you close a file [command W] in mid-save...Oops.
Hadn't restarted Bridge CS5 since deinstalling CS6. Now it's opening files in Photoshop CS5.
