Replace CCM 5.1 server

Hi all,
I have a problem with replacing CCM servers and need your help:
As instructions from Cisco, I'd installed the same CCM version on the new server; backup the old server; turn off the old server, connect the new one to the network and then restore the .tar file to the new server. But after 4 times of trying, the process still failed at the CMDB restore step.
Could anyone give me a suggestion on this and some ideas on replacing the CCM servers!
thanks,
hoanghiep

Make sure that you are using the same server name and IP settings as the previous server.
If these are ok, I would gather the backup log files and open a TAC case.
Thank you,
Jon

  • Replacing the primary site server, SCCM 2012 R2

    Hi,
Setup is currently SCCM 2012 R2 with the primary site server on Windows 2008 R2 on a Hyper-V VM with a separate physical SQL server on 2008 R2 (Windows and SQL). I'm not making any changes to the SQL server at this stage.
I want to completely replace the primary site server VM completely with a brand new VM using Windows 2012 R2.
I was looking to run the SCCM setup and using the Expand an existing stand-alone primary into a hierarchy option but it wont let me do that due to "The site code you specified should not be the same as the primary site's site code".
So seems this Expand an existing option isn't the right option for me?
Do I just add the new server in the SCCM console and add all roles and test and then delete the roles from the old server?
    Thanks
EDIT: I have 7 Secondary sites, so I dont want to just start over by doing some sort of backup and restore to the new server unless someone can tell me that wont break my hierarchy.

a backup and recovery is the correct way to do this, but there are a few things you should keep in mind.
Do a backup of your current environment and shut everything down.
install new vm, ensure the configuration is identical, (dns, hostname, etc...); install the same software and pre-requisites,
    do a recovery
check the following links on how to do a backup and restore:

  • Does CCM need separate server?

we just started implementing SRM 4.0 (will go with 5.0 once it's released). we are wondering if we need to put CCM on separate server as SRM server.  do people normally put SRM/CAT on one server and CSE on another or put SRM on one and CAT+CSE on separate one? what's the pros and cons and how to decide?
    Thanks
    Jane

    Hi Jane,
Yes, you can very well install both the components i.e. EBP and SRM on single server.
The installation on single or different server depends upon the load of catalogs to be handled(this is one criteria , there may be others)
pl. read CCM config guide for better insight in installation.

  • How to set Report Location by RAS SDK without configurating CCM in CR Serve

    Dear all
When I use the RAS SDK with CR Server Embedded 2008, I found that when I use the Java code to open a report like below:
    String localRptPath = "rassdk://C:
    oem.rpt";
    reportClientDoc.open(localRptPath,OpenReportOptions._openAsReadOnly);
But I must set the Report Directory from the default value(a specified location after CRSE installation)to " * " in CCM of the RAS Server like below:
Right click the RAS Server -> Choose "Propertites" -> Choose "Parameter" -> Change "Option Type" to "Server" -> set the Report Directory from the default value to " * "
Then I can open the report, otherwise I must put the report under the Default Location of the Report Directory.
So customer need a way which can set the report location directly in RAS SDK and without configurating the Report Direcroty in CCM?
    Thanks in advance.
    David

    Dear all
I encounter some strange situation when editing the "Report Directory":
In my Vmware, there are 2 "ReportDirectoryPath" under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Report Application Server\Instances\bouser.RAS\Server\LocalConnectionMgr
    and
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Report Application Server\Server\LocalConnectionMgr
I can only edit the "ReportDirectoryPath" in the former location and then take effectively in the CCM. And if I modify the "ReportDirectoryPath" in the latter location, it can not take effect.
But in customer machine, customer install CR2008 and CRASE2008, and customer can edit the value in the registry, but after customer uninstall the CR2008 and CRSE2008 then reinstall CRSE2008 only, the registry structure is different, there is not HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Report Application Server\Instances\bouser.RAS\, so customer can only edit the "ReportDirectoryPath" under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Report Application Server\Server\LocalConnectionMgr
    And it can work effectively.
And I can not rebuild this.
So I found that when there are 2 location of the "ReportDirectoryPath", I can only modify it under:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Report Application Server\Instances\bouser.RAS\Server\LocalConnectionMgr
    So my question is:
Why the registry structure is different after reinstall the CRSE2008?
Because customer need the firm registry location to modify it.

  • Ccms agent on server with : FreeBSD, Linux ?

    Hi.
i want to know if it's possible to manage a server with OS :
    - FreeBSD
    - SuSe
    - RedHat
    with SAP ccms agent.
For example : it's possible to install a ccmsping on a server that have a FreeBSD like OS ?
i know that it's possible with ubuntu.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards.

    > For example : it's possible to install a ccmsping on a server that have a FreeBSD like OS ?
With the FreeBSD Linux emulation layer it can be possible but the agent may read data hard coded from /proc filesystem and expecting a Linux output. FreeBSD is (how the name says) a BSD based system whereas Linux is more SVR4 based and has thus other structures.
    Try it!

  • Xserve storage - replace Mac with X-serve?

Currently using a G3 (I know! Iknow!) as a fileserver. This had an external Firewire 120gig Drive attached for graphics dept and La Cie tape drive for backup. Digital photography has meant increasing storage - currently at 750 gig and rising.
Tape drive has just failed - need to consider my options and priotities - your thoughts, please.
Mine are - replace tape drive first?
Replace G3 - we are about to free a G4, and this could be used as replacement fileserver- would end users note any improvement in service? marginal?
Or bite the bullet for an X-serve?
could we still hang our Harddrives off this in a firewire chain or if you go down X-serve route is that a bit short sighted - should you be looking at Apple drive modules instead of external storage?
Any other issues I should consider - price is a consideration so if there is a 'Gold Standard' I should be trying to achieve, is there an optimal upgrade path that would allow me to buy kit one stage at a time?
    Thanks

    Hi BrendanK-
There is nothing wrong with a G3 with drives hanging off as a file server as long as it is doing the job.
Tape can still be a viable backup media. The tapes are small and easy to lock in a safe. The backup process can be slow as you know. I have clients that still rely on tape for "deep storage".
The G4 may show marginal gains processor-wise, but depending on which one you have it may have gig-Ethernet which would speed transfers up significantly.
Even with an XServe the basic I think the basic configuration comes with an 80GB drive with the expectation that data will be stored elsewhere. You can add a couple of drive modules to increase storage but you will have all of your eggs in one basket.
Be aware that you can run the XServer software itself on a variety of platforms. A Mac pro loaded with hard drives may do the trick for you.
Gold Standard to me means a system that meets your needs and 3 backups of data-one locked in a safe at another location, one locked up locally, and one always nearby and ready to go. No matter what you use for a file server, it means nothing if you lose your data.
Hope this helps. You can do this on a tight budget.
    Luck-

  • Replace FE and APP server in SharePoint 2013 farm

    Hello,
We have to replace the front-end web and app server from a SharePoint 2013 farm.  The farm only has 1 FE, 1 APP and 1 SQL server.  As the FE and APP were wrongly patched and have unsupported software installed there's no way of getting all servers
at same version level and to succesfully run the Product Configuration Wizard.  The database server is ok but we have to replace the 2 other servers.
Is there any documented procedure to perform this migration/reinstall?
    Thanks!
    Martin

    for first approach.
1- go to central admin and add all roles you need for the server that will stay
2- log into the server you will remove then run configuration wizard and choose disconnect from farm
you will have now one server, you can clean it up and keep it or later remove it when u have the new one
    3- to add new server

  • I replaced sync data on server, how can i get access to older version of my sync data?

    Hello!
I've a problem. I synced my data from desktop browser and then reinstall browser. After that i pressed Sync now, entered my credentials and i thought that this browser will download my data. But by this deeds i replaced my previous data. How can i restore it?

    Hello Mightymad,
Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support. Sorry, about your loss of data.
Sync isn't intended for the purpose of being a "backup" service while the user re-installs their operation system. It was made to synchronize data between Firefox installations on multiple devices, where not every device is devoid of their Firefox installation and data at the same time.
Unfortunately, if you've overwritten the Sync data your previous version is lost.
I wish we had better news for you, but hopefully this gives you a better idea how Sync works, so you're better prepared next time you go to reinstall.

  • Transparently replace an external mail server?

Is it possible to somehow configure the mail server to automatically connect to another server and download messages from there?
We have a corporate mail server that has severe mailbox size restrictions, and it is impossible to receive mails directly to our own server.
What I would like to do is have my users simply change their mail client IMAP server address to point to my Snow Leopard server and have their already existing username and password automatically used to retrieve the mail from the corporate server.
I don't mind automatically creating accounts on my server, because if the connection to the corporate server works, I know they are valid users.
Is this possible at all? Perhaps with a third-party software? (I looked but couldn't find anything).
(sorry for the double-post, got the wrong group at first)
    Thank you,
    Jerome Tremblay

I am looking at a similar scenario.
My organisation is currently hosting 200+ email accounts on 2 external hosts, across 4+ domains. ie [email protected] is hosted externally by Rackspace and [email protected] is hosted by GoDaddy.
What I would like to do is migrate the email hosting - to our internal 10.6 servers. I have have approx 200 accounts across the two external hosts (4+ domains).
The advantages of this would include ease of automated setup and maintenance, as well as quota management.
Any advice that can be provided I would be forever grateful for. I am comfortable with email server setup and relay configuration, however a task of this magnitude seems quite daunting.

  • Is Orion replacing Apache as Web Server ?? what about mod_plsql ?

From the recent news publications, it seems that Oracle are now
persueing the use of Orion as the Web Server? Is this just for
the J2EE component or the whole suite.
I suppose my main question is; Will Oracle be supporting the
mod_plsql functionality within Orion or will it be running in
    sync with Apache ?
    Thanks
    Jon

From the recent news publications, it seems that Oracle are now
persueing the use of Orion as the Web Server? Is this just for
the J2EE component or the whole suite.
    gday Jon -
We've recently made some major advances in the J2EE with our
work with Orion/Ironflare, but this doesn't mean that all the
other elements of the product are deprecated and cast aside.
We are very focussed on using the existing HTTP server (based on
Apache) as the primary HTTP listening endpoint. Although the
OC4J component has HTTP listening capabilities this is not what
we are pursuing as the primary HTTP server role.
We believe we've got a pretty strong position since OC4J on it's
own can be used for development purposes (since it's so small
and easy to install/use) and it has it's own HTTP listening
    capabilities built in.
For production purposes we encourage the use of Oracle HTTP
Server today and this will be even more so with our next major
release. We are adding a new module to OHS, mod_oc4j which will
communicate directly with OC4J instances using AJP13 (Apache
Java Protocol). The HTTP server will therefore function as the
HTTP listener, the HTTPS access point, the load balancer for
J2EE applications, the single-sign-on router, and also provide
the function points for the other modules such as mod_plsql,
    mod_perl, etc.
I suppose my main question is; Will Oracle be supporting the
mod_plsql functionality within Orion or will it be running in
    sync with Apache ?
    cheers!

  • Can I replace OSX 10.6 Server with OSX 10.7?

I recently bought a new Mac Mini. I didn't read closely and when it arrived it was loaded with OSX 10.6 Server. I'm using this mini in a home environment and really have no need (as far as I know) for the Server version. I would like to just have this Mini function normally. I loaded 10.7 on my MBP this afternoon and tried doing the same on the Mini. I get a message in the App Store saying I have to buy the Server version of 10.7 at $79.
Is there any way I can just install 10.7 non-server version on this Mac Mini?
    Thanks.

you can but dont.  Apple has totally screwed the pooch with this release.  apple has gone windows. Nothing works after the upgrade.  open directory-broken,  softwareupdate-broken, AD plugins for OD- broken, open directory replica- broken.  Stay away from it for as long as possible.
Way to go Apple.  awesome job.
maybe if Apple listened to the enterprise level admins and actually acted on the pain points server software like this would nt be released.  Why is it that when i upgrade my servers that nothing gets migrated over.  I lostevery single one of my settings when the box came back up. Did apple even test the osx 10.7 server upgrade to ensure trouble free upgrades? where there tests done to make sure that when your server(which is in an enterprise most likely) is upgraded that functionality wasnt taken away?  truley disappointed

  • Problem replacing Stratus by FMS4 server.

I’ve installed this application in my server:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/rtmfp_cirrus_app.html
but changing the reg.cgi file for this other version made in php:
    http://active6.com/actionscript/the-adobe-stratus-beta-sample-app-and-phpmysql
All works properly when I use a connection to the stratus server in this way:
    [Bindable] private var connectUrl:String = "rtmfp://p2p.rtmfp.net";
But my intention is to do it without the Stratus server. Then I’ve installed a FMS4 in my own server and I’ve changed the connectUrl string for this other one:
    rtmfp://mydomainname/VideoPhoneLabs/_definst_
I’ve opened completely all the UDP and TCP ports in the router and in the server too, and deactivate the firewall and the result is that when I call the application from any computer in the LAN, all works perfectly, but when I do it from any other client from outside the local network through the internet, the connection is impossible.
Should I configure any parameters in the FMS4?
    Where can the problem be?
Thank you very much for your suggestions.
    Andrés.

First of all thanks for your answer.
I’ll put you an example: I switch on my netbook and connect it to my wifi (the server were the FMS4 runs is connected to the same router) I open any navigator and execute the application by calling its URL (http://mydomainname.com) and all works properly. Now, I take the same notebook and go for a walk and I connect this “micro-computer” to a public wifi or the router of any friend. I follow the same steps with the same computer and now the same application is not able to connect.
All ports are opened and all firewalls deactivated. L
    Any idea?
Is it necessary to configure any parameters in the FMS4 in order to get external calls?
    Thanks again.
    Regards.
    Andrés.

  • Replacing a windows server with a Mac server

    Hi all,
So this is a big company with about 150 employees using PC's (win xp and 7), considering replacing the current Windows server with a Mac server.
Is it possible to give users profiles once they log in like Windows server does? So when the user logs in they get to their own personal stuff? Can Mac server do that?
Can the user also get to the default printer and send prints to it regardless where they log in from inside the company?
And can the home directory to each user NOT be copied anywhere on the local machine where they log in? Meaning that after they log out there will be no traces to their files on that local PC..
    Thanks a lot in advance!!

By some standards, 150 is not "big" but a large small business :-)
Regardless, please plan and test and plan some more, very carefully !
The picture for what you want to do once looked far better with 10.6 server but that had its limitations as well.
With 10.6 server, Apple was using Samba - they are no longer doing so,
but/and the version of Samba they were using only provided NT-Domain level support.
So that would not work with your Win 7 stations either. But could be made to work relatively well with XP workstations. You can no longer buy any new Mac that runs 10.6 server and 10.6 server would be hard to obtain.
Not a great route to go.
Bear in mind that the key problem with Apple's Samba was that Samba changed their licensing,
and there's not a thing in the world Apple could do to implement a current version of Samba without violating their own operating principles and the licensing requirements.
You'll be heading into heavily uncharted territory here. Odds are good that any desired domain-functionality is not going to work for you.
Honestly, Apple appears to have thrown in the towel on directory-level support for Windows,
and the best way to support Windows workstations in that regard is with Windows server and AD.
Basic filesharing works, with some caveats.
If there's no AD involved at all, then have a look at my earlier post,
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206725?start=47
Which worked a-ok for me but your mileage may vary.
Samba new current versions and GPL3 licensing issue:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3206725?start=75&tstart=0
"GPLv3 makes it impossible to provide signed binaries without also providing the signing keys. A few seconds of thought will reveal why Apple is unwilling to provide copies of the keys they use to sign system software. Part of locking down OS X security profile required removing anythign that used GPLv3.
Short version: GPLv3 is specifially desinged to be anti-company, and you are going to see a ever widening schism in the FSS/OSS community between GPL and all the other licenses, and you will be seeing less and less GPL code in commercial OSes and more BSD/Apache/&c code."

  • Replace Snow Leopard Server OS on Mini Server with Snow Leopard non-Server?

I have a Mid-2010 Mini Server which came preinstalled with Snow Leopard Server. I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with attempting to replace the OS-X Server software with OS-X non-Server in order to run Parallels for the Desktop. If this worked, then one should be able to re-install the OS-X Server software as a client using Parallels. Parallels states that it supports OS-X Server as a client, but the real question is whether one can install the OS-X (non-server) on a Mini which came with the OS-X Server software installed.

    Hi
Your problem is going to be finding a Client OS that will actually boot and install on the MacMini:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159
According to MacTracker the build version of OSX Server 10.6.3 shipping with the MacMini Servers is 10D2235. It may work if you have a comparable client that's fully updated to 10.6.4. One way of finding out is to target disk mode an appropriately updated mac to the MacMini Server. If you can, select the System on that unit as the Startup Disk and see if it boots and works successfully with no kernel panics.
