  • How can I create a black and white image similar to what I see in the "Replace Color" tool?

Hi all, I'm just wondering how I can create a black and white image similar to what I see in the preview window of the "Replace Color" tool. See attached screenshot for clarification -- I need the grass to be black while the soil is white or vice versa. Any tips?

One way is to use Select>Color Range
Make a new Color Fill Layer>White
    (Layer>New Fill Layer>Solid Color)
Put a new color fill layer below>black
Just invert the layer mask on the top fill layer for the opposite effect.

  • Missing "Replace Color" tool in CS3

I'm using CS3 (Windows) and I'm missing the "Replace Color" tool.
Every other tools seem to be available (I think).  See a screen capture of my tool-bar below.
Could I have inadvertently deleted/removed my Replace Color tool?
Is there a way to restore my Replace Color tool?

See the rubber stamp tool in the lower right of the bitmap tools? Click on the small triangle in the lower-right corner to bring up the pop-up menu. It's in there, along with the red-eye removal tool. Any time there's a small triangle, that means there are multiple tools in one square.

  • Replace color with transparency?

    Hello,
Using the Replace Color Tool, I can't find transparancy as the new color. Am I doing something wrong? If not, would there be another way to replace a color with transparancy in Fireworks? I have Fireworks 8 (and I love it).
    Thanks,
    Frank

Great question. I have to admit, I've never used the Replace Color Tool—I didn't even know it was there.
Initially, I thought you might have been referring to the Find panel, which is useful for replacing colors with vector objects. It, too, lacks support for transparency. There is a trick you can do to force the transparent (or "None") swatch to appear: In the hex code input of the Color Picker, add a "0" to the end of the 6-digit hex code. The problem is, this won't actually work to replace the color with transparency; once you try to apply it, the color reverts to its previous value.
If you're working with bitmaps, your best bet might be to use a bitmap selection tool or command, and then once the color is selected, just use the Delete key to remove it. If working with vector objects, remember that you can always select multiple objects and then use the Properties inspector to adjust the fill or stroke color of all the selected objects at once. Also, using Symbols can allow you to edit just a single object and have it affect multiple instances.

  • Replace Color(s)

I couldn't figure out how to use the Replace Color function
    in
Photoshop, so I checked out Fireworks and was pleased to see
    it's user
friendly in the extreme. The only problem is it doesn't work!
First, I opened an image with a .png extension. (It only
    works on .png
images, right?) Then I clicked Window > Find and Replace,
    opening the
little dialog box. The settings are "Search Document," "Find
    Color" and
    "Fills & Strokes."
There are two colored squares - Find: and Change to:. I used
    the
eyedropper to set the color of Find to the color I want to
    replace (a
light gray). Then I clicked Change to and set it at yellow.
    Then I click
    "Replace All," but nothing happens.
This is the first time I've used Fireworks, by the way. I've
    owned
Studio MX for a long time but never got around to playing
    with Fireworks
because I already had Photoshop. Thanks.

The Replace Color tool works as Linda describes, and can be
    used on
pngs, gifs, jpegs, etc. I do not think FW MX had the actual
    tool
(although it's been a long time since I used MX so I could be
    wrong).
I've never found it to work all that well or predictably
    especially with
grey, but that could just be me.
However, what you described was the Find and Replace Color
    panel. This
panel no longer exists in later versions such as FW8 and
    probably MX
2004. Its functionality was built into the main Find and
    Replace dialog box.
At any rate, this feature only works for vectors, fonts and
    paths.
Sampling a color from a flattened bitmap (PNG or otherwise)
    will have no
    effect on the image.

  • Replace Color Command Saturation Algorithm

For the Replace Color Command (not the Replace Color Tool), the meaning of the Saturation slider is clear only when the slider value is negative (reducing saturation). In that case the slider reading is the percent by which the (H-L) gap is to be reduced, where H and L are the highest and lowest RGB channel values. A reading of -100 means the gap is to be completely closed. Whatever the percentage closure, it is effected by decreasing H and increasing L in equal increments proportional to the slider setting.
When the saturation slider is set to a positive number (increasing saturation), however, the meaning is not easily unearthed. The incremental changes in H and L, although still equal and opposite in algebraic sign, are now a non-linear function of the slider and the initial H and L values, but I have not been able to nail it.
BTW, The middle RGB channel plays no role in either case. With H and L set, it is adjusted to keep hue constant.
Any help out there? Gernot? Anybody?

Bump---with apologies. First time ever (honest). Apart from staving off the post's oblivion, I want to verify just where in the ladder a bump jumps.

Press and hold on the red eye removal tool and you'll find it
    hidden
    underneath.

  • Replacing Colors with Sample Color

I know I must be missing something fairly obvious, but I can not seem to find out how to do this simple thing:
I have scanned our baseball teams calendar schedule which has the days colored-coded; red for home games and white for away games. Also, they certain special home dates colored in a light blue. I want to replace all the light blue days with the same red that is already in use on the rest of the schedule.
I can find no way to use the red as the sample color, or transpose the RGB values shown into corresponding Hue, Saturation and Lightness values used in the Replace Color tool.
I do this every year and in the past I kept a old copy of Paintshop for this single task, but have finally deleted it and want to figure out how to do this simple task using my Photoshop 7.0.

Each calendar day (Blue or Red) also has the Date & time & opposing team in whit letters outlined by black. I do not want to fill the entire square with the color, I only want to replace the blue portions within the calendar square with red.

  • Replace color by giving target and replace RGB code

    Greetings,
Is there a way to replace a color where I supply the target RGB code (let's say 237, 32,36) and the final color that I want to replace (let's say 255, 0,0)?
I tried the replace color tool but when I do a color droplet I cannot get all the sections where that color is.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Basic Color Replacement Tool Questions

Using the color replacement tool in CS5:
    1. How can I use this tool while applying it to a new layer, so if I do not like it, I can discard it?
    2. What does the option to Sample Continuous mean?
    3. Is this new tool as effective as using the Image > Replace Color feature? Is it just another way to do the same thing, or does it have a particular use?
    thanks in advance.

    1.
layer via copy (cmd-J) and there you go, you have a new layer to play with
    2.
    from CS5 help....
Continuous Samples colors continuously as you drag.
Once Replaces the targeted color only in areas containing the color that you first click
Background Swatch Replaces only areas containing the current background color
    3.
they're two different tools that point to similar results..
    hope this helps..

  • Replacing color question

Using CS5 and Image > Adjustment > Replace Color
I am trying to change the color of the top of the wall, I select it and adjust the Hue, however it is leaving behind part of the blue that was there before. If I add the blue to my selection or adjust the fuzziness too much, it starts changing the color of the window. What is the best way to get rid of the left over color without changing the color of the window?
    Thank you.

make a loose selection around the wall with the lasso tool (to exclude the window) and then choose select > color range
on another point the quick selection tool would make a good job of this selection.

  • Replace Color question

I have an image taken from off the Net that I need to edit and change some colors.
In the Replace Color dialog I can select the "source color"  but I can't specify the "destination color" except by dragging the Hue slider.
I'd like to be able to specify the "destination color" I want in more detail, like selecting it from a pallette, inputting RGB/HSB values etc.
    How could I do that?

Choose Image > Image Adjustments > Hue/Saturation or press Ctrl + U keys. Drag the Hue slider to -150, Saturation slider to +2 and Lightness to -4.
If you want to limit the color correction only to the blue gradient, first select the the pointing hand (On Image Adjustment tool) at the bottom of the Hue/Saturation window and click with it once on the blue gradient.
If you want to sample the values from the green gradient to help you choose the values in the Hue/Saturation sliders, first open the Info panel and change its readout to HSB color, then after opening the Hue/Saturation window and clicking with the On Image Adjustment tool to limit the color range for the correction, disable the On Image Adjustment tool by clicking on its button again. Then move the mouse cursor over the the left edge of the green gradient on the image, and check the values in the Info panel. Then change the values in the Hue/Saturation window and also keep the mouse cursor on the left edge of the blue gradient on the image until the hue value of the blue gradient in the Info panel matches the hue value of the green gradient. Then repeat the same for the Lightness and Saturation.
I don't know if this is possible on Macs but on Windows any input box in the programs has virtual slider capability by clicking in the input box and using the up and down arrow keys on the keyboard. You can take advantage of this when using the Hue/Saturation window and sampling colors from the image by keeping your mouse cursor stationary on the image to sample values as reflected in the Info panel while using the up and down arrows of the keyboard to change the values of the Hue/Saturation sliders.
For more details about using the Hue/Saturation controls read the manual: http://helpx.adobe.com/content/help/en/photoshop/using/adjusting-image-color-tone.html#adj ust_hue_and_saturation

  • Replace colors on multiply layer with predefined color

    Hello,
This is my first time here and I've tried to find an answer to my question but haven't been able to. Maybe someone can help me whith this.
    My process:
    I scann my artwork (linedrawing)
I color my artwork with multiply mode on different layers (as i'm sure many do)
Now what I haven't been able to figure out is how to replace the color on this multiply layer with a predefined color from my colorswatch.
I've found tutorials on how you can change colour  around by using hue/saturation and stuff like that but I have a predefined colorpalette. So I just want to replace a certain color blue I always work with, for a specific color green from my palette.
I've used the replace brush tool but the colors that appear are a blend of the first color and the second color I use.
So my solution so far has been to set up a new layer and color again. I'm hoping there is an easier way.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
    Kind regards,
    Lineke from Amsterdam

You could have a Color Fill layer for each color selected from your Swatches, with the blending mode set to Multiply, and the layer mask filled with black. Then, paint on the mask with white to do your coloring.

  • Rid pattern on background, replace color?

Hi. Using PS CS4 on XP.
I have a background with a pattern on it (dark brown flowery lines). I wanted to know if there is a good way to get rid of it. I heard I should use replace color. I was trying that out, but part of the pattern is still faint. I was wondering if there is another option or a combination of options I should be doing. Do I need to trace the whole path with the pen tool of the pattern?
I am going to attach an image before I made any changes.
By the way, is Adobe Forums REAL slow for anyone? Every time I go on here, it takes at least 5 minutes to load.
    Thanks for any help.

    Seems fast enough here...
Is this background interspersed heavily with the rest of an image?
In other words, what are you trying to retain?  The texture but not the pattern?
To "rid" an image of a pattern one only need substitute a smooth color, which would more involve isolating the main subject (and any other parts you want to keep) from the background, then filling with a solid color through one of the various means.  There are many ways of making and refining selections to isolate subjects from backgrounds.
I guess to answer your question properly, we need to know more about the entire image and your intent.

  • Can't replace color in PSE 9

I am trying to replace one color with another in a photo in PSE 9. Following the instructions in the on-line help does not work. Here is what I do.
    1) Select the eye dropper and click in the image to set the foreground color to the replacement color.
    2) Right click on the brush tool and choose the color replacement tool. Set the options to Mode=Color, Limits=Discontiguous, Tolerance=25%, Anti-alias=On.
    3) Left click on the color in the photo that I want to replace.
    4) Hold down the left mouse button and drag over the area containing the color I want to replace. Nothing happens when I do this.
In the photos in the Replace Colors in an Image help topic it appears that at some point in the process the cursor should change to include an eye dropper. I assume this is the cursor I should see before I left click to select the color I wish to replace, however, at no time does the cursor ever contain an eye dropper.
Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks.

How are you trying to save? Works for me.
    Edit à Contact Book
    Add New
Enter details e.g. Name and email address
    Click OK and close
Then click Edit à Contact Book and your new name should be in the list.
