Replace dc jack on g71-340us laptop

I'm trying to repair/replace the dc jack on my g71-340us laptop, but cannot get the keyboard off to get to the motherboard.  I'm anxious about forcingthe connection at the bottom center of the keyboard cover.  Any hints on removing the cover and keyboard?

Hi,
The procedure to remove the keyboard is detailed starting on Page 60 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.

  • No sound after Windows 10 free upgrade from WIN7 on G71-340US laptop with IDT CODEC.

After free upgrade from WIN7 to WIN10 my laptop no longer has any sound (with internal or external speakers). I have tried uninstalling IDT driver and allowing Windows 10 to reinstall the driver through scan for HW changes - still no sound. I would appreciate any guidance or fixes for this problem. Thank you.

I am happy to report I now have sound on my G71-340US laptop. After further trial and error troubleshooting I found that there is an app called IDT PC Audio (aka IDT HD Sound) installed on my laptop by HP (OEM) I think. While I'm not exactly sure what this app's function is it appears it is related to activating IDT HD Codec drivers functionality. Somehow I decided to look in Task Manager - Startup and saw this IDT PC Audio listed. I clicked on disable and then a minute later clicked on enable. After I did that, as simple as it appears, I now was able to hear sound both on internal and external speakers. This is the first time I heard any sound since upgrading to WIN10. I have checked it several times by re-booting my laptop and each and every time I now have sound. I'll continue to test this through the week and see if it continues to be OK. Meanwhile, I thought I would share this potential fix (or workaround) with all concerned. Perhaps others will find this useful and provide me your feedback. Keeping my fingers crossed! PS. BTW, if anyone out there knows what IDT PC Audio is by all means share your knowledge. I am curious why this app doesn't appear more often in the forum posts and how it may relate to the WIN10 upgrade. Sorry, but I don't recall what prompted me to look at Task Manager - Startup but I'm glad I did. It's great to hear sound again!

  • HP G71-340us With Several Power Issues

My wife's HP G71-340us developed a problem with the power "brick" that came with the computer.  The part that plugs directly into the side of the notebook cracked open, exposing the wires inside the cord.  The cord itself began to fail, only supplying power to the notebook on an intermittent basis.
Finally, after struggling with that power adapter for quite awhile, it had finally failed, completely, so I ordered a replacement.  The replacement arrived today - uncovering a new layer of problems.  Problems that I'm not sure how to troubleshoot.
    The details:
AC cord plugged into the wall and connected to the power adapter "brick", the adapter then plugged into the side of the notebook:  the light where the adapter plugs into the notebook comes on, solid blue.  Great!
The "charging" light on the front of the notebook blinks - 1 short blink, 1 long blink.
    The battery does not charge
When turning on the computer, it boots to Windows, only to lose power and turn off after a minute (or less).
To try to troubleshoot, I removed the battery and tried turning on the computer under AC power - it will not even turn on.
I then put the battery back into the computer - it boots to Windows, then loses power.
It is obvious to me that somehow, the computer is not getting the power it needs.  But, what confuses me is that the light by the area the adapter plugs into the notebook turns on steady blue, giving me the impression that it is, indeed, getting power.
That is where I am at... and I am at a loss.  If you need more information, or clarification, I'd be happy to give you what you need.  If you have any ideas as to what is wrong, or how to continue, I'd be grateful to hear your recommendation!

Something cracked the power jack on the AC adapter open...it was not in the passive voice just "cracked". It takes some accident or event, When that happened and you kept using it you fried the motherboard. The pwer The laptop needs the motherboard replaced. I could try to sugarcoat, but that would not be honest. The power jack inside the laptop is not bad, it is the internal charging circuitry of the motherboard. So the light turns blue but nothing happens from there to the battery and to the motherboard itself.

  • Graphics card upgrade for HP G71-340US

Hello, I have a HP G71-340US running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with a Intel GMA4500MHD. I know that this graphic card has a very low performance rate, so is there any alternate graphics available for me to purchase to put it in this system. With the discrete card, I will be able to multitask without any gridlocks. Thank you very much.

I would think it is wise to purchase a new laptop. My parent owns a G71-340us and the model is pretty old. HP will charge a lot of money just to replace the motherboard. You could spend a little more money for a new laptop with better specification. Plus, count the time and money that they have to dismantle the system, take all the parts out, and reinsert it again. If you still want to look for the part, there is a link for parts in the HP website. http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?type=PROD&SearchText=VM114UA

  • On G71-340US: very low volume when using DVD player, but OK when using Windows Media Player.

Just purchased new laptop G71-340US.  Volume (at full tilt) is decent when using Windows Media Player, but when using DVD player, volume is so low I can't really hear volume on a movie unless room is completely quiet, and I am right in front of laptop. Any suggestions, or is it really this bad?

I don't have the answer, but I certainly agree. The G71-340us is severly under powered in the audio department. You would think with the extra room in the 17in. chasis they could have put a sound system with a lot more power. Other than that it's a great machine.

  • Replacing dc jack on Gateway NV52

I am in Korea and impatient so I am allowing a Korean repair store to attempt to replace my broken dc jack(99% sure it is the dc jack. I dropped the laptop. it worked fine. i tried to charge it, the computer didn't know it was being charged. the dc jack has a rattle. the ac adapter works fine. multimeter confirmed)  The question is: can you just put any jack into any computer? the plan is to replace the jack AND the adapter. I know the jack is near the motherboard. i have no idea what a motherboard is but it's gotta be important. Also, running power through something not designed for my laptop sounds like it might cause it to explode. My korean friends say this repair is possible I want to believe them but I can wait for a new dc jack if it means my laptop will definetely work properly and not explode. Help? if the answer is wait for the right part can anyone tell me where to get one shipped internationally. Thanks.

    Hi
    Welcome To Lenovo Community
You can fix or wire the DC in jack on the base cover of the laptop
Normally DC jack has a plastic molding which holds it with the base cover
If that molding is broken and DC in jack is gone inside . you can use some adhesive to rejoin the molding
But ensure the adhesive does not fall on any electronic parts of main board
Please refer HMM user guide  for assembling and dis-assembling of the notebook

  • Can I use HP Director software (WinXP) on my HP G62-340US laptop (Win7) with HP PSC 1510xi?

Can I use the HP Director software from my WinXP Desktop (HP Pavilion 325c) on my HP G62-340US Laptop (Win7, 64-bit)?
If so, will the XP software version run on my Win7 64-bit system?
I really liked the HP Director's functions when I used it on my desktop.
Maybe... Can I just use my Backup or Restore discs from my Desktop to install the HP Director software suite onto my Laptop?

I found my answer!  HP Director was replaced by HP Solution Center - which I installed and it works.  I do, however, prefer the interface on the HP Director than that of the Solution Center.

Took apart Macbook pro 13 to remove broken headphone tip in the jack. Had to remove battery to get to the headphone jack. Now the laptop won't start. The power button is just not responding. Battery indicator showed charge of 3 dots initially but now only the last dot is blinking. The power cable used to light up green initially but now the green light is gone. I have tried SMC reset, which didn't work. What are my options?

  • Hello. Trying to replace broken screen on daughter's laptop. Laptop is an HP DV6T-7000 Quad

Hello. Trying to replace broken screen on daughter's laptop. Laptop is an HP DV6T-7000 Quad (bought in July, has the 3rd gen I-7 proc. and 610 graphics card). OEM screen is an LG LP156WH3(TL)(AC) according to the sticker on the back, which is a 1366 x 768 glossy. Would like to upgrade to the optional 1900 x 1080 full hd matte, which internet research leads me to think is model # LP156WF4(SL)(B3). Can anyone verify the part # and if it is just a screen swap-no new cables required? Thanks! Sid

  • Replacment headphone jack

Where can i get a replacment headphone jack and will it come with the little ribbon cable

There are online stores like this one
    http://www.rapidrepair.com/shop/photo-ipod-parts.html
You can also buy a broken iPod on eBay and swap the part. Note: The headphone jack parts on the 4th gen color display and 4th gen b/w display ipods (the socket that connects the two halves of the case) are different. So you need to get one off a 4th gen color display model (aka iPod photo), if that's the type you have.
Most iPods are broken because of the hard drive, not the headphone jack.
