Replace fan w/ better heatsink? G4Ti4200 VTD64

I have a G4-Ti4200-VTD64 display board.  I'm in the process of silencing my PC -- just installed quiet Papst case fans (1 in, 2 out, using rubber mounts), Nexus NX-3500 quiet power supply, and Nexus AXP-3200 quiet AMD heat-sink and fan.  Forgot to order the Zalman northbridge/chipset heatsink to replace that fan, which is definitely noisy, but I will.  Once that fan is replaced, the only "stock" fan left in my PC will be the one on the  MSI Ti4200-VTD64 card.
Is it possible to replace the video card fan with a heat sink?  (Something less elaborate and costly than the Zalman or Thermaltake heat-pumps, which look like considerable overkill for this card.)  I'm not overclocking.
Thanks.
Randy.

if u want silent this is pretty new and cool. runs at 19db on low and 23db on high for around 20 bucks and u can get it here: http://www.frozencpu.com/cgi-bin/frozencpu/process.html

  • Getting a replacement fan & heatsink module for my MSI NX6800GT (agp)

    Hi all,
I got a bit of a problem, the fan on my MSI NX6800GT (agp) sounds like a dog, after removing the card and having a look, it appears that the spindle that holds the fan in place has worn out (the fan seems to drop down onto the plastic and thats what is making the noise) . Its buggered basically. Do any of you fine people know of where I can get a decent replacement fan and heatsink?
    All help appreciated
    John

OK, I ordered one of those  nv silencers, I thought about contacting MSI like you guys said but after reading about this product I thought what the hell . . . £20 but worth it.
    http://www.gladiatorcomputers.com/ProductDetail.aspx?StockCode=ACCARTREV4NVS53&Link=SearchResults
It came yesterday, so last night I installed it, fitted well, one small thing on the instructions, there is an "L" shaped metal bracket called a passive heatsink plate, now I know my **** from my elbow but could I work out where this was supposed to go? . . . NO.
Anyway it appears that I dont need this bit, why cant they just say "this bit is optional". Kinda scary fitting stuff like this when youre as green as me.
Anyway, all went well. Thank you all.

  • Radeon 9800 Replacement Fan

Hi, my Radeon 9800 128MB edition just died. I am looking for a replacement. This is for a quicksilver.
3 out of 4 of my PCI slots are filled, so not a whole lot of room. I am worried about just any old fan due to size and maybe incompatible power connectors. Would either of these be good choices? I don't want to spend a lot of money, so am trying to stay under $20.

    Hi-
The screws holding the fan to the heatsink on the 9800 are either #2 Phillips or #1 Phillips. I have two different versions of the 9800 cooler here on my desk, and there is one of each. Anyhow, it is a simple matter of removing three Phillips screws.
The Zalman tutorial that you linked is a bit complicated, as the individual chose to connect to the board, and install a speed controller. Typical installation would be to simply connect the power from the Zalman to a 4 pin Molex connector (like the hard drive power connectors). I have a 9800 with the Zalman 900 CU, and the power connected to the molex power only (off a hard drive power connector) works very well.
BTW, the Zalman (either 700 Cu or 900Cu) is a very good cooler, and works better than the OEM cooler.
No need to complicate things unless you want to.....
If it is in the adjacent slot and blowing directly on the card, seems like it would help at least a little.
It would help at least a little, but the 9800 needs alot of proper cooling. I would advise against a PCI fan only for cooling the 9800. The 9800 is a hot running card, and a properly functioning cooler on the board is an important item to keep the 9800 alive and healthy.
Don't let the fan replacement scare you. It isn't that major of a job. Keeping devices working as they were intended is better than cobbling a "hope it works" solution together.

  • Looking for a better heatsink help....K8N NEO2

Im looking for a better heatsink....any suggestions? I may oc it but for now I wont....it idles at 40-41 and stays at 60 when im gaming 58 if i turn off cool n quiet.....and thats with some ocz ultra5 Thermal compund....ThX

Yes, agree with SAB, zalman 7000 is a good one, however I´ve got 2 very simular K8N Neo2-systems but with 2 different cpu coolers.
One with zalman 7000alcu and one with Thermalright XP-90 and a zalman 92mm fan ( you can use what ever 80/92mm fan you like high speed, low speed, led colored, etc).
Both are equal regarding cooling to my experience, but I prefered the XP-90 because I did not have to remove the backplate ( I think zalman recommends mounting it´s own backplate to get the right distance/pressure between the cooler and cpu ).
With the XP-90 you just switch the retension mechanism which is easy ( even with the MoBo in the case ).

  • Replacement Fan for DV7-6195US

    Greetings All,
I need to order a replaceent fan/heatsink for a DV7-6195US notebook. I can't seem to find the part # or any other info. for this on the usual pages. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
    Thank you in advance.
    --- Gary

    Gary,
    Specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02863098
    Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842278.pdf
The manual only lists fan/heat sink assembly for Intel processors with 2GB discrete graphics system & not for 1GB discrete graphics, which is present in yours.
This is your Laptop's HP part surfer link:http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=LW170UA
In there too, only UMA & 2GB graphics system cooling fan/heat sink assembly part numbers are listed,
Only part for 2GB discrete graphic system is listed- 666391-001 (partsurfer) or 653627-001 (manual) .
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008L30LKW?pc_redir=1408522867&robot_redir=1
But, from this thread - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Cooling-Fan/td-p/3475779 , spare part number for 1GB discrete graphics such as yours is listed as 666390-001.
    http://partsurfer.hp.com/Search.aspx?SearchText=666390-001
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA3DY1S03962
    http://m.ebay.ca/itm?itemId=221496259906
    http://m.ebay.com/itm?itemId=390914163035
Through online stores, I could find that both are compatible with your laptop model - 666390-001 or 666391-001.
    Hope this helps.

  • Dual 1.25 G4 Mirrored Doors Replacement Fan Kit

Where can I get one of the replacement fan kits Apple was offering for the Mirrored Door (Wind Tunnel) computers?

I would like to add the specs of the stock fans, so you can use a comparison page to search for fans, that meet the airflow, but are lower in noise.
    MDD Single CPU:
    60 x 25 =         42,25m3/h    / 38dB(A)
    60 x 10 =         29,24m3/h    / 35dB(A)
    120 x 38 =         180m3/h      / 49dB(A)
    MDD DUAL CPU:
    60 x 25 =         64m3/h    / 47dB(A)
    60 x 10 =     ?
    120 x 38 =     (ca. 110-) 258m3/h variable speed fan     / 53dB(A) (you can include 120x25 fans, too, when you search)
But keep in mind, that manufacturers test are all different and the specs of different manufacturers are not really comparable. Also static pressure plays a role, if a fan has the same airflow, but higher static pressure it will cool better. But that is all theoretical.
Best thing you can do is buy a used fan controller with temperature sensors on Ebay and put it outside the MDD case, route the cables through one of the PCI-Slot-covers or through the air holes. I think temperature is only given for the CPU from the MDD itself (via menumeter or something similar). This is why, if you want to do it accurate, you will have to use a fan controll, because fo the temperature sensors.
Because, putting a fan in, that claims to have the same airflow as the stock fan and will be quieter does not mean, it really hass the same airflow. Your system might be quieter, but hotter.
On the other hand, the fans are chosen by Apple, so that the worst case scenario is taken care of (person loading the CPU 100% and sitting in the direct sun *jokingly*. In other words, it does not need the 250m3/h (devide m3/h by 1,69 to get the american cfm number or use this http://www.elektrosil.com/fileadmin/templates/html/luftdurchsatz.htm )

    Read here: http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/g4_mirrored_drive_doors/noise_reduction/g4_dd r_noise_reduction.html
Back in the days there was a private person working together with ebm-pabst (the manufacturer of one of the stock fans and long time so called industry-leading manufacturer, not today anymore, though, but they still have the reputation), they tried to not only lower the noise by fan choice, but measuring what wavelenghts add up for the subejctive noise impression. (While two fans might be 20dB(A) you might find one quieter, becasue it is a hizzing sound instead of a buzzing sound...).
I find that appraoch very good. One should contact the person that asked pbm-pabst, if they went any further!
All G4s suffer a design flaw, that is, that it pushes a considerable amount of the heat out through the PSU, which is, why you have the loudest fans there and there is no much variety in choosing different fans.

  • G4Ti4200-VTD64 voltage incompatibility with MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR??

    Hello,
I have the MSI G4Ti4200-VTD64 (4X) video card..  I want to upgrade my motherboard to K7N2 Delta-ILSR. Is there any voltage incompatibility?? I heard that new mother boards will support only AGP 1.5V. Is the AGP voltage of K7N2 Delta-ILSR 1.5volts??  Is my video card compatible with this voltage?? I really want to retain my current video card as I am quite satisfied with it and I'm not willing to invest on a new one at the moment. If there is an incompatibility could you suggest another Socket A MB with good performance and SATA RAID support.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Joseph

    Joseph,
All 4X Vid Cards work on all 4X and 8X mobos. All 4X mobos work with all 4X and 8X Vid Cards.

You can order a replacement fan from eBay but you need to first take apart the laptop to find the fan part number to make sure you get the right part. Otherwise you will have to send it in to get it fixed. Those are your two options right now.

  • G5 - ATI X800 XT Noise. Replacement fan?

I have a G5 with a stock ATI Radeon X800 XT video card. Over the last few weeks it has been making a whining sound. I tried to clean it with compressed air but it still makes the noise. I know years ago they made replacement fans like the ATI Silencer5 but I can't find one anywhere since they were discontinued. Any suggestions on how to salvage this card? I like the card and would rather stick with it as opposed to replacing it.
    Thanks.

    Hi-
Not sure, but a bury frame fan might have the right connector:
    http://www.directron.com/ec6010m12s.html
If the fan in the X800XT is of the same size and has the same mounting pattern, replacing the fan may be a good option.
Problem is, graphics cards use very small connectors, which are non-standard for replacement fans (except for Arctic Cooling products).
This is why many opt for cutting wires, or else accept the use of 2 or 3 pin fan to Molex adapters....

  • TS440 Replacement Fan Failure

I tried replacing all of the fans in the my TS440 with after-market ones from Noctura but only the 92mm  fans worked. The replacement 120mm and 80mm fans would not spin up. However, they would spin briefly when I turned the server off and the 80mm fan would work when I plugged it into the header for  front system fan 1. Anyone seen this issue with after-market fans on the TS440? Fan Size; Connector; Factory Fan; Replacement Fan; Result
120mm; Rear system fan connector; AVC DS12025B12H; Noctura NF-S12A PWM; FAIL
92mm; System fan 2 connector; AVC DS09225R12HP235; Noctura NF-A9 PWM; PASS

80mm; Microprocessor fan connector; AVC DS08025T12U; Noctura NF-A8 PWM; FAIL

hey there, just got my TS440 and thinking about replacing all my fans with Noctuas as well since stock is pretty loud.
did you have any luck on getting them to work?

  • Replacement Fan for DV7-1261WM

    Hey guys,
Recently the top fan on my DV7 burnt out, or went out. I've tried searching around the internet for a replacement, but I'm not really confident on some of the websites I've come across.
Heres the fan I'm talking about:
Any ideas on where I can score a replacement fan? Thanks in advance guys!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I believe the part you want is number 488885-001, according to the service guide (below)
You could also try the Intel version....  480481-001.  These can be found on ebay for as little as $5.  The HP parts store seems to suggest that this would also work, they are listed as a part for sale for your model.
The service manual and repair procedures can be found at http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01918142/c01918142.pdf
Unfortunately, it's a fairly complicated process to replace the fan.  If you're not a techie or have experience repairing laptops, you might want to check out a HP authorized repair shop.
