Replace FC Card and ZFS Pools
I have to replace a Qlogic ISP2200 dual port Fibre Channel card with a new card in a V480 server. I have 2 ZFS Pools that mount via that card. Would I have to export and import the ZFS pools when replacing the card? I've read you have to when moving the pools to a different server.
Naturally the World Wide Number (WWN) would be different on the new FC card and other than changing my SAN switch zone information I'm not sure how ZFS would deal with this situation. The storage itself would not change.
Any ideas are welcome.
Running Solaris 10 (11/06) with kernel patch 125100-07
Thanks,
Chris

Solaris 10 upgrade and zfs pool import
Hello folks,
I am currently running "Solaris 10 5/08 s10x_u5wos_10 X86" on a Sun Thumper box where two drives are mirrored UFS boot volume and the rest is used in ZFS pools. I would like to upgrade my system to "10/08 s10x_u6wos_07b X86" to be able to use ZFS for the boot volume. I've seen documentation that describes how to break the mirror, create new BE and so on. This system is only being used as iSCSI target for windows systems so there is really nothing on the box that i need other then my zfs pools. Could i simply pop the DVD in and perform a clean install and select my current UFS drives as my install location, basically telling Solaris to wipe them clean and create an rpool out of them. Once the installation is complete, would i be able to import my existing zfs pools ?
Thank you very muchSure. As long as you don't write over any of the disks in your ZFS pool you should be fine.

I have a preowned sch 1515 v nexus that I want to activate on my account to replace a moto x that has a cracked screen. It does not have a sim card. can I get a replacement sim card and what size ? or can it be activated without one and work?
bluebdee, Let's get you the SIM card you need for your Galaxy Nexus! As Ann154 mentioned, this phone does use a Micro SIM card and it is available at our corporate stores for no cost. Our Authorized retailers may have the Micro SIMS available, however, there may be a charge for them. Here is a link where you can locate and contact the stores in your area http://bit.ly/3SdsA. What replacement graphics card for Mac Pro1.1
My NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card is producing various screen artifacts and freezing on startup,
but not in safe boot mode. From reading this forum and posts for a couple of days I've concluded
that I need to replace my card and am thinking that the +ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit+
+for Mac Pro (Early 2009 or Early 2008)+ from the Apple site is the one to get.
I should add that I've tried all the usual fixes in case it wasn't a hardware problem. My question is
will the card work with my system (only Apple and Adobe software running OS 10.5.8 and one 20" Dell monitor).
Now I know this question has been asked and answered many times but I seems to work for some
and not for others that's why I ask again mentioning my particular setup in case that has some
importance.
Thanks in anticipation of any advice. How did you get on with your graphics card replacement?
My original Nvidia GeForce 7300GT is on its way out but I'm reluctant to pay nearly £300 for a replacement. Are there any other options available to me? -
I do not have particulars on the controller, but I am sure it's an NI chassis
and NI regular controller that has a serial cable leading back to the PC.
I am making this PXI rack into a debug rack for instrument cards,
so I need to be able to remove power from just the PXI chassis
and then replace the card with another one
or the same one and then turn the power back on and restart a
diagnostic test on the card WITHOUT
having to reboot the PC.
Is there a PCIe bridge setup that would allow me to do this?
Is there software that I need that can accomplish this?Yes
The Chassi is a NI PXI 1045
and the controller is a NI-PXI-8331
Let me re-enumerate my requirements:
Background:
I have a number of NI cards as well as other manufactured cards in the system.
One of these cards in the NI system is considered to be a UUT.
That is, I am using the NI card cage system and other cards in the system to test a CARD
during a manufacturing test of said UUT CARD.
The UUT uses a PLX 9030 for it's PCI interfacing.
This UUT is not designed for hot swap, and I do not bieleve it is plug and play.
Requirement:
1. I need to be able to shut off the chassis and remove the UUT when the test finishes, replace the tested UUT
with a unknown UUT, re-apply power and then test the new UUT WITHOUT having to reboot the PC.
I have tried several things, such as disabling the PCIe busses in the windows control panel, and then removing power
replacing the UUT with the next one, re-applying chassis power and then re-enabling the bus and SOMETIMES it works.
I need a very robust way to do this.
I also bought a CHROMA PXI-52906-E extender card with bus switches on it, so that I can remove power to the UUT
without shutting off the chassis. The card is supposedley designed so that when power is re-applied to the UUT, the necessary
signals to boot the PXI PCI interface is conducted, but I think something else has to be written to the card's PCI registers.
I am by no means an expert in PCI/PXI,
but I seem to have exhausted all of my reserach online in how to meet my requirements.
Perhaps there is a way for the NI8331 controller to capture PCI configuration data to the card's on system boot,
and then "replay it" to my UUT after I re-apply power to the UUT?
Or perhaps PLX makes such a tool?
Any ideas? -
Replacement iPad 4th generation WIFI/3G saying no SIM CARD and unable to restore previous settings
Hi Inez2317,
Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you see a "No SIM" message on your iPad. You can find some troubleshooting steps that can help at this link:
If you see 'No SIM' alert on iPhone - Apple Support
Although the article references the iPhone, most of the steps can help troubleshoot an iPad as well.

Question #1
Hello, I purchase a Radeon 9800 pro 128mb from ebay. I own a mac G4 ( double mirror doors) I am using tiger10.4 I am replacing my old radeon 9800 pro 128mb with one from ebay. I installed the card properly but I am still getting a black screen. why? Monitor works on my powerbook G4 laptop.
QUESTIN #2
Can I upgrade my hard drive to a 2tb with the proper PCI card and cable ?#1, tough to tell, is it using the VGA or DVI output?
#2, yes, if you can find a Mac compatible card. -
Hi all,
So Ive had my iMac 2009 model for a fair few years, and barring getting the hard drive replaced a while part as part of their program, no troubles. Then a month or less ago, I got this weird crash during work. Small cubes of vertical blue lines appeared all over the display and froze everything. The arrow cursor still moved but had to hard reset. Then it would just constantly freeze and the blue cubes appeared again on startup so I could only get in using Safe Mode.
After browsing the web, I heard a backup restore might fix it, which it seemed to, but then it kicked in again. Took it to Apple who could see no hardware issues and the problem didnt occur while I was there because of the restore, it was more intermittent. So I took it home and it happened again.
This time at the Apple Store, they told me it was definitely the graphics card and took it in for repair. Service was great and a few days later I get it back, pay for the repair and come home. All fine and no problem for a couple weeks.
Yesterday it kicks in again! Same problem, cant boot at all outside of Safe Mode, which is erratic, has 5 columns of blue lines across the screen and Mail flickers like ****.
Ive booked it in AGAIN at my local store to check, but my question is does anyone have experience of what this could be, and also if the first repair was wrongly diagnosed and didnt fix the problem, will Apple refund that, or offset it against the actual repair if something else needs replacing?
Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, all the best!
Leonew card or not, I guess only Apple themselve will know, but Apple Authorised Service Centre can only replace with original card. you may consider to get your fan replaced too, as your iMac is getting old now and the fan might be getting weak to cool your system down.
well, this is only a suggestion. I've been an IT technician for years, and I do encountered graphic card keeps failing till we changed the fan, just sharing my experience. -
Hello,
Been using an external SAS/SATA tray connected to a t5220 using a SAS cable as storage for a media library. The weekly scrub cron failed last week with all disks reporting I/O failures:

Have tried rebooting the system and running zpool clear as the zfs link in the console errors suggest. Sometimes the system will reboot fine, other times it requires issuing a break from LOM, because the shutdown command is still trying after more than an hour. The console usually outputs more messages, as the reboot is completing, basically saying the faulted hardware has been restored, and no additional action is required. A scrub is recommended in the console message. When I check the pool status the previously suspended scrub starts back where it left off:

Then after an hour or two all the disks go back into an I/O error state. Before moving the card into the other slot in the riser card format saw each disk in the zfs pool. Not sure why the disks are not seen in format but the zfs pool seems to be available to the OS. The disks in the attached tray were setup for Solaris to see using the Sun StorageTek RAID Manager, they were passed as 2TB raid0 components to Solaris, and format saw them as available 2TB disks. Any suggestions as to how to proceed if the scrub completes with the SAS card in the new I/O slot? Should I force a reconfigure of devices on the next reboot? If the disks fault out again with I/O errors in this slot, the next steps were to try a new SAS card and/or cable. Does that sound reasonable?
Thanks,Was the system online (and the ZFS pool) too when you moved the card? That might explain why the disks are confused. Obviously, this system is experiencing some higher level problem like a bad card or cable because disks generally don't fall over at the same time. I would let the scrub finish, if possible, and shut the system down. Bring the system to single-user mode, and review the zpool import data around the device enumeration. If the device info looks sane, then import the pool. This should re-read the device info. If the device info is still not available during the zpool import scan, then you need to look at a higher level.
Thanks, Cindy -
External USB drives and ZFS?
I have a plan to add a couple of USB drives to my Solaris 10 x86 box and then put them into a zfs pool for some extra storage.
Is this feasible?
Having had no experience using external USB devices I don't know how they present themselves to Solaris and if using them with zfs is possible.I have recently been using a usb interface to a sandisk card. Everything seems to work pretty well. No idea about zfs though, havnt taken that leap yet.
For removable media you can just plug it in (I use the ports on my type7 keyboard) and type rmformat to see if it is recognized by the system. Mounting can be funky depending on the format. However this command seems to work for your average pc formated card.
find the address using rmformat
then
# mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c8t0d0s2:c /home/someuser/somefolder
Here is an example of the rmformat output on my system.
You can see a firewire drive and a usb SD card device.

Still getting KP after replacing gfx card & having Genius Bar tests...
I've been getting kernel panics when waking the computer from sleep since 10.5.5 and rampantly since 10.5.6. Soon after my nVidia 6800 started displaying artifacts and would not boot unless under safe mode (in Leopard) or by removing the GeForce extensions all together (in Tiger).
I took it into an Apple store and the Genius desk pop in a new card and it booted fine so obviously that's the problem. Before I made a decision on replacing the card I wanted them to their thorough hardware check to make sure it was only the card and it came back clean.
Since Apple wanted $440 for a refurbished 6800 (that couldn't be found for a couple weeks) I got one off eBay for $300. Pop it in, looks good, reinstall Leopard, upgrade to 10.5.6 and start restoring my backups.
Everything was going fine until I put the computer to sleep last night and the next morning, once again, it fails to wake from sleep. Computer "breaths" to life, but the display is dark. Hard shutdown and I get my familiar kernel panics (this is copied from an old post of mine):

After sending an obviously frustrated report to Apple I don't know where to go from here. I was dealing with a woman at Apple's customer satisfaction center. When she gets back to me to check in I'm going to relay this news to her. My initial feelings were this was a bug between Leopard and G5 hardware as others were experiencing it.

HT5035 Can you have an iTunes gift card and a credit card on the same iTunes account?
I still have money left on my iTunes gift card, but not enough for a purchase. So I was wondering if I add a credit card to my account, when I make a purchase will it use the rest of the money from my gift card and then charge from my credit card, or would it merely cancel out the gift card and replace it with my credit card?
Yes, it will, unless you make a purchase which can't be done with a gift card, in which case the balance will remain and the entire purchase be charged to the credit card.

MacPro 4,1/5,1 video cards and audio support
I have a MacPro5,1 2010 model and I am considering replacing the standard video card with a newer more powerful one which can support 4K displays. I have however seen a lot of reports of problems with Yosemite 10.10.2 and being unable to send audio via the Mini Displayport or HDMI ports on various replacement video cards.
I was wondering if anyone here had better news to report regarding this issue. If so what configuration is working for you?
Am I also right in thinking that all third-party cards regardless of inherent capabilities would be unable to do Displayport MST, and 4K 60Hz via HDMI in OS X?
PS. I would ideally want to retain the Mac boot screen on such a card. (PC flashed cards do not support this.)The hatter wrote:
Ask MACVIDCARDS
I have already sent them an email and I am awaiting a reply but they will only be able to speak regarding the particular models of card they deal with, there maybe other models they don't handle that have better results - at least with regards to my list of requirements. -
Replacement Graphics Card for Macpro 2008 with HDMI ports
I have a Mac Pro 3,1 (2008) 2 x 2.8 Quad core with ATI Radeon 2600 XT Dual DVI.
I would like to replace this Card with something that has at least 1 HDMI out port that supports audio. I want to be able to use download/ iview features to watch TV shows on my HD LCD TV but sourced by the Macs browser.
The Current card only has DVI ports and does not support any audio so when connected to the TV I get picture, but no sound. Not Ideal !
I see that the cards on the Apple store don't have HDMI out.
looking for lots of ideas and experiences.
TaI see that the cards on the Apple store don't have HDMI out.
The apple 5x70's have 2 mini-displayports and a dual link dvi port. The 5770 requires one aux power cable and the 5870 requires two.
You can get just as good as the name brands but much cheaper priced adapters and cables through monoprice.com. For example, the mini-displayport to HDMI adapter:
Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt® to HDMI® Adapter w/ Audio Support
There are many people who have put a 5770 into a 2008 mac pro. Here's a google search of "5770 in a 2008 mac pro" which shows many discussions of this and even a video.
There's also some discussions on this in these forums as indicated by the More Like This section on the right side of this page. -
I have an eMac which I want to connect to my home wireless network. My router is D-Link - 601 tech. 802.11n. My eMac is wireless ready but does not contain an airport card. Do I need a card and an airport station? What else?
You need the Airport card OR Airport Express but not both. Considering the age of your machine, I recommend Airport Express as you will find other uses for it whenever you replace the eMac.
To set up the AE, you do need OSX 10.4 or higher.
