Replace file, link disappears

I have a problem with hyperlinks disappearing. I have a link in a file (call it file1.html) to another file, file2.html. I'm not sure about the design of file2.html and have created a replacement called file3.html. I decide I like file3.html better, so I delete file2.html and rename file3.html as file2.html. But when I click on the link to file2.html in file1.html, it's gone (looking at the source the link has been removed).
Clearly iWeb is doing this automatically when I delete file2.html. How can I stop it from doing this? I have links to file2.html in dozens of files and I don't want to manually redo every link when I replace it (and I will replace others, too).

Unfortunately I can't successfully change it, although as I try to replicate the error something altogether different is now happening. I have a file within which I have text "Maps" which I want to use as link to the file "maps.html". I use the link manager and link it to a file "maps.html". The text changes to "maps.html". I change it back to "Maps" but whan I've finished (and published changes) the link is now to a (nonexistent) file called "maps-34.html". Obviously, the link doesn't work.
I've repeated this error several times. It is happening.

In previous versions of firefox ( 28 and Earlier ) I was able to follow local file links by whitelisting them in the user preferences file as shown here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Links_to_local_pages_do_not_work
This functionality has ceased to work with the update.

You might find a similar bug already posted, but if not, sure, others are going to have the issue.
I guess one question is implementation. What mechanism is replacing capability preferences? If there isn't something that general purpose, what kind of site-level permission could be relevant?
And if the need is not clear, what are the use cases for http:// to file:// access that the developers need to consider? Or is it for file:// to file:// access that's most critical?

File links go missing files in bins

Premiere Pro CS6. I'm working on a fairly complex project with lots and lots of still images and dynamic links to AE CS6. Never had this happen before, but while I'm working on a project with lots of bins and sub-bins, I'll go looking for a file and while the bins are all still there, there are no files in them.
My workaround has been to close PPro and reopen the file and voila! they're there. Nothing changes on the timeline, but I can't access the links to move a file to the timeline.
Bug or feature??? I'd say bug, because it certainly doesn't act as a feature to me!
I'd send a bug report, but they don't really seem to help. I've still got the problem of having to render AE CS6 dynamic links inside PPro, which didn't exist in CS5.5 and have turned in several bug reports, with no response from Adobe. sigh Takes up valuable render time.
The work around is not acceptable as it takes up even more time!

Nope. Nothing in the search box. It's like the database for the bins just disappears randomly. Then when i close the program and reopen it, the file links are back. It's almost like the bins directory(?) loses communications with Premiere (it hasn't happened in AE...yet) so I'm wondering if there's a .dll or some sort of subroutine that directs the bin database.

Yes. When I dynamically linked an AE file to a PPro project in versions CS5 and CS5.5 (and further back as well, when it worked at all!), the render line above the linked project was yellow, showing as not needing a render. In CS6, the behavior is completely different. It shows as needing to render (red). My graphics card is an approved nVidia Quadro, so that's not an issue. In CS6, it's broken. Period. It has disrupted my workflow as I use many compositions from AE in PPro and now have to render a project.
Thanks for the help...or at least looking at the issues. But no resolution here yet.

Multiple File Links

I understand how to make links to files through various means--text, buttons, etc.
But how might I manage a growing catalog of files to be downloaded. For example, each week of a semester a teacher has a new handout for the class. Each week the teacher adds that handout and some study guides to the web site.
After a while, there would be a lot of links to a lot of files. Now I suppose you could just have a new page for each set of files and branch off that way. But that seems kind of hard or too much work. Is there someway to create like a drop down menu to select categories and then files. For example and using a teacher again, a drop down box to pick classes the teacher teaches, you select the class then you get the files. And/or you could have another drop down menu for selecting which year's classes and study guides.
So basically, any good solutions for multiple/many file management?
Also along those lines, I'm guessing with so many files it would be best to have them on a central server with folders that never change or are moved for the sake of iWeb never losing the correct file link? Because I'm also guessing you can't upload linked files to your Mobile Me account so that they are stored there, rather than locally on your computer?

For those files you can drag them onto the iWeb page and resize. Then get converted to a png file that way but can be downloaded for printing as an image file. If the pdf is too large for one page and you want scrolling add it like in this demo page: Scrolling Text Box. With that method all you would need to do is replace the linked to file with the one you want to use. You can place the file any where on the server and link to it. Replacing it with a new file but with the same name will automatically update the website.
When you drag the pdf onto the web page as in the first suggestion iWeb will automatically upload it along with the rest of the site's files. No worry about where to keep it on the HD.

URL link disappears in GIF

I'm trying to put 3 links (Fcaebook, Twitter and Company's homepage) into an animated ecard (GIF). When I save for web is working perfectly, but when I try to paste the GIF into the email body, the links disappear. It's like the whole area where the links are was cut off.

I think you are misunderstanding the process. Links are "meta", meaning they are stored in the underlying HTML code, not the image file itself. Thus merely inserting an image will not produce any working links. You will have to copy&paste the source code of the HTML preview page and include your image. That said, there is a million things that can go wrong like the formatting breaking up or mail servers filtering such stuff for security reasons, so it is considered good practice to also include links as plain text links and have an external HTML page to display e.g. a full e-mail newsletter.

Adobe Muse Site Broken File Links

I posted my sire and it is riddle with broken image file links. The site isn't loading
I was told the broken image files are due to naming the files with "periods" in the file
name. I need to rename each file and replace it in Muse pages. If that is the case
why did the site look fine when I was viewing in Adobe Business Catalyst posting?
I'm super concerned that I may have to rebuild much of the site with new file name
updates to broken image links.
Anyone? Help is appreciated.

Impossible to speculate without the URL for the site, or at minimum an example of the file names in question.
Do you have files named starting with a period? That would be a problem for some hosting providers.

On Finder Freeze/Relaunch All my desktop files & icons disappear

The title sums it up.
When ever my mac decides to go into spinning wheel mode and I have to force quit/relaunch finder, when I relaunch finder every desktop file & icon disappear.
At that point I'm forced to push the shutdown button on the tower and reboot, then all is well until the next time.
And the next time could be a day or a few days or a week. No rhyme or reason why.
Please help me solve this frustrating problem.

Cloud backup plans can slow your Mac down, and if used simultaneously with your Mac's networking, or you have an unreliable internet connection, could be the cause of your freezes. You may be better off seeing if turning off iCloud temporarily helps. This can especially be a problem with non-Apple routers whose firmware may not be up to date. Multitasking with backups can lead to corruption of your backups. Time Machine should only backup to hard drives twice the capacity of the original, otherwise it spends a lot of time trying to discover which archives to eraes to maintain room. Energy Saver can also create problems for backups, as it takes a moment for the Mac to recognize the connection. Use screen saver instead of Energy Saver when backing up. System Preferences lets you control both. Putting hard drives to sleep when backing up is ill advised.

Error 7 occurred at open/create/replace file

Hello,
I have searched the forum and could not find any useful information regarding my problem, so hope you may shed some light. MyVI can create a new csv (text) file by using the time to name the file, so every time the new file will be created with a different name and file path is not a relative path. I can run the VI in both development environment and stand along executable without any problem. But,
One of my colleagues cannot run the executable exe on her machine because Error 7 occurred at Open/Create/Replace File in xxxx.vi Possible reason: LabVIEW: File not found. The file might be in a different location or deleted. Use the command prompt or the file explorer to verify that the path is correct.
My question is why only she cannot run this exe on her machine. I have checked a few different PC in my office and all of them can run this exe without problem, so I am pretty sure the code is fine.
I have already ask her to do,
Run the executable as administrator
Save the new file to other drives (not C: drive)
but she still cannot run the executable. I dont think this is a premission issue, otherwise, LabVIEW would give a different error, Error 8 I believe.
Both her PC and my PC is running Windows 7 professional 64-bit. The only difference I can see is that she is based in US and I am based Australia. Does anyone have any idea? Please help.

I’m not sure but expecting like below,
As you said, your creating file name with Time. Make sure file name is correct and there is no special characters (like, / or : ). If your formatting time to string with “Format Date/Time String.vi” (while creating file name), based on UTC format, string will change.
UTC format specifies if the output string is in Universal Time or in the configured time zone for the computer. If TRUE, date/time string is in Universal Time. The default is FALSE.
Make sure you have access rights to create files into mentioned folder. Try to create new file manually.

I have an application that works on LV60 and when run in LV86 I get the following error:

Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW: Generic file I/O error.

The application does:
New Report.vi
Excel Get Worksheet.vi
Excel Easy Table.vi
Excel Easy Text.vi (4 of them)
Save Report to File.vi

all in a nice chain (errors and report-in/outs) as is typical
For some reason I'm getting this error. I'm using it with Excel 2003 SP3 and the spreadsheet contains macros (and I get a prompt "should I enable macros:" (I answer yes), that I didn't get with LV60 and the older version of Excel). This is probably not the problem? but deserves mention.
The file does exist on the system (and it appears the application is writing to it successfully - though perhaps truncated as the error indicates- i can't tell for sure).
I can open and save the Excel file independently of LV just fine.
Any clues?

Unfortunately, an Error 6 is a catch all category for all sorts of file IO errors that LV doesn't know how to handle. For example, while it doesn't sound like your problem, trying to access a file that resides on a network drive that isn't currently mounted can generate an Error 6.
Have you tried saving the file to a different location?
If you restart your computer and run the VI does it generate the error the very first time you run it?
Can you post your code - or at least a subset of it that demonstrates the problem?
Is Excel open when you are running the code?
Also, as a test try modifying your code so it has a unique name every time you save it.

I have a .vi that was working fine with Labview 7.0. I now have upgraded to Labview Professional 8.0, and I am trying to build a stand alone executable. When I build the executable, build an installer, and then try to install it on another computer then run it......... I get the "Error 7 occurred at Open/Create/Replace File in Open Config Data.vi" error. Any ideas?

I've been using this part of the program for over a year an suddenly this error occures. But not always, mainly at the very beginning of my tests when the file should not be open.
Info: I'm using a realtime PXI-System. Maybe the amount of data can cause the problem? (about 2MB)

Hi Meike,
is the file opened by a different program? Do you try to access it by FTP in parallel to your VI?
You could use basic file functions instead of WriteSpreadsheetFile. That way you could open the file before starting the loop, keep it open all the time and close it once you're finished - with the added benefit of easier error handling…

Multiple file links in a single page: A better way to/efficient way to handle ?

I would like to ask the community how they have handled multiple file links in a single page. Sort of a pseudo database of files.

Depending on what other text you might have, you could use the data list component.
To get the text to have underlines, you will need to edit the repeated item. You can also adjust colors and fonts as well. The default rollover and selected states will probably not be the UI that want, so make sure you change those as well.
Now for the interactivity, select the datalist, and use the interactions panel, choose "On Select", then "Go To Url", the trick is to make sure the "When a specific item is selected" is also set. Here are the basic settings to get your links working:
Add new interactions for each item you want to be functional.

In File Upload the file name disappears once a drop-down option is chosen

There is a pop-up which contains File Upload UI element, an input field and a drop-down list. After specifying the file path, if i choose an option from the drop-down list, the file path disappears. However, the context attribute still holds the file path but at the UI level its not visible to the user. Please let me know what could be done for that.

Thanks a lot for your reply. It was really helpful.
When contacted the framework people, they informed that once a file name is being specified in the client and a roundtrip is performed, in the meantime the file gets uploaded to the server. The file path is reset afterwards, in order to prevent the file from being transferred again and again.

File link not working on Adobe 8.0

Hi,
on Adobe Acrobat 8.0 the File link does not work. For example if I have in the pdf the link: c:\daten\info.doc, I can't open this link. If it is a Weblink then it is working. The customer told me that was working in Adobe6????

the customer uses the Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2 Standard and Acrobat Distiller 8.0 Postscript 3016102. I did print to pdf with adobe.
I have all printscreens on a file, if you need more info!
I did create on customers PC a new Winword document and printed ou as a pdf. Weblinks are working, File UNC File not.
I have all Printscreens on a File, you can have it if you like (but i need Filelink or eMailadress?)
