Replace footage and keep grading in place?

Hi all
I'm working on a production with a less than ideal post work flow. Its a tv show with lots of fx shots and I'm being delivered the project in chunks. So I'm doing scene change detects and obvioulsy working without an EDL. So I had to do the first session with some shots being incomplete. Now I have a revised "chunk", same length, etc, but with finished FX shots. I'm trying to figure out if there is a proper way to just replace the clip. It has the same scene changes, so I was goign to try and trick speedgrade by replacing the source footage with the new one and naming the file the same way, but it seems there must be a better way. Is there?

Hi,
You can replace the existing clip with drag&drop:
- Open reels browser (Timeline-Reels)
- Browse to new clip
- Drag&Drop new clip onto clip in reels browser
This should replace the source clip and keep SCD settings.

I have already authored my project and set up all the existing Chapter playlists on Time line A. however, i noticed a mistake and had to re edit the timeline as it has been imported from premiere as one continuous file. I wish to re import it as timeline B, with all the same chapter numbers and names and keep all the exisisting chapter playlists and links, but when i go to delete Timeline A it says that it will delete all existing Playlists. Is there any way around this? Please help otherwise i will have to set them ll up again!!

I think the problem is that the .avi file contains audio, and the .m2v is an elementary video stream.
Can you get an .avi of the replacement asset? Your other choice would be to mux the elementary audio and video streams into a single .mpg program stream.
I normally wouldn't recommend muxing the elementary streams. My choice would be to redo the timeline/playlists using the elementary streams no matter how long it took.

After Effects "Import", "Replace footage" and similar commands not working

From today my "Import" and "Replace footage" commands are no longer working properly. I can perform one of these commands once and then they no longer work until I restart AE. Both the menu items and the contextual menu in the project window behave the same. It is hugely frustrating.
I started having the problem after opening a project from a colleague who has been experiencing the same thing.
I am working on a mid 2014 Macbook Pro with 16GB of RAM with Os X Yosemite 10.10.2. My AE is on CC 2014 and is fully up to date.
Any ideas?

I have the same problem with exact the same setup. Also in Photoshop i can`t open files.
I also reinstalled everything and i get the same problems again.

Replacing image and keeping existing action in Flash CS5.5

I'm updating an existing Flash swf file that was created using CS5.5. The only thing I have to do is replace the image used. When I import the new image it changes the action used with the existing image. How can I import the image I want to use AND keep the existing action that was used? Every time apps are updated they get moved. How do we permanently keep each in place?

Update through iTunes. It's safer anyway and takes less time (at least with the 2.1)

Replace Footage with Current Effects and Attributes Applied to New Clip

I made a mock-up commercial with comp videos from a website and now need to replace them with the paid versions of the clips. Is there an easy way to replace the footage and keep all the attributes and effects I put on the comps? I tried the replace function but fcp told me "Insufficient content for edit."

Tom's right there, you can't replace a ten-seconds clip with an eightsecond clip.
But also look up the paste attributes function. This allows you to keep all of your attributes while replacing just the media.

*Clip attributes are all the parameter settings applied to a clip—for example, motion parameter settings, audio and video filters and their parameter settings, speed parameter settings, and so on. Copying and pasting selected clip attributes is a quick way to add nearly any attribute to other clips in an edited sequence. You can copy motion paths, frame cropping, and animated filter effects from one video clip to another.*
*Suppose you have just applied three filters and a speed setting to one clip, and you decide that you want exactly the same effects to be applied to several other clips in the sequence. Instead of re-creating each setting clip by clip, you can simply copy the first clip, select the other clips, and paste only the specific settings you want into all of them simultaneously.*
*When you copy a clip from the Timeline, you also copy all of its attributes. Instead of pasting duplicates of the clip you copied with all of its attributes, you can:*

Conform from edl, replace mov with color graded dpx seq

Hi all,
I successfully import the edl from FCP to PPro with the correct in and out points for each clip.
The source files of that FCP edit are .mov, but now, I need to replace all the .mov in my bin with color graded .dpx sequence.
I tried both right click > replace footage, and right click > link media to try linking it to .dpx, but I can only link it to a single .dpx file instead of a dpx sequence.
Is is possible to do that on PPro?

Replacing footage with image sequence

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew how to replace footage with an image sequence. It seems like when I choose replace footage and navigate to my image sequence there is nothing I am able to check off for image sequence. So basically if I have an image sequence in my timeline, I can only replace it with a movie which defeats the purpose of using an image sequence. Thanks in advance!

You need to have a single directory filled with one or more supported still images which are named with a number a the end for the 'Image Sequence' checkbox to be un-grayed out in the 'Import', 'Replace Footage' or 'Locate Files' dialog. From the screenshot above, it looks like you've met all those criteria and that the checkbox is not even there, as opposed to being present but dim. On windows 8 (which it looks like you're on) that checkbox would be in between the 'File Name' label and the bottom of the file list area. The fact that you're not there makes me think your on an older version before we had all the relevant features. I'd have to check to remember just when that would have been, but I know that as of CS6 the 'Image Sequence' dialog was definitely there for the Locate Files and Import dialogs, so it's reasonable that it was an option in the replace footage dialog too. It may be something system specific which is not allowing all the UI to draw in correctly when using OS dialogs. In that case, Kevin's suggestion might still be viable since the Link & Locate workflow uses its own Premiere UI instead of OS dialogs.

Replacing Footage in Merged Clips cs6

Is there any way to replace footage of merged clips in cs6?

When I right click on a merged clip in the Project window, Replace Footage and Replace With Clip are grayed out, unavailable. Are you guys able to do this with a merged clip? Maybe it's a setting I've missed.
When I right click on a merged clip in the Source Monitor, Replace Footage and Replace With Clip are not in the menu.
If I right click on a merged clip in an open sequence, I have the option of Replace With Clip from the source monitor, but that's not what I need to do.

Is there a way to replace a Power Point slide in Captivate and keep the CC notes?

I have a lot of Power Point slides in my Captivate project. The Power Point presentation is on a Share Point, so it is impractical to "link" the Captivate project with the Power Point presentation. Now and then we need to make changes to the Power Point slides and then replace the old slide in Captivate with the new slide. We have a lot of CC notes and TTS attached to each slide, so I lose all of that when I replace the slide. Is there a way to keep the synchronized CC and TTS notes in place, and just replace the acutal slide?

1 - simplest way:
drag the sound file on to the audio well in the Inspector > document > document tab
music can only start on the first slide and will play untill the music ends, you can only have one music file in the presentation
2 - more control
drag the sound file on to any slide, add the images on to the same slide and use Builds to reveal each image in turn

I have verified the sharing folder and also the remote access but it not let me turn it off.
Also I have add a password to my computer and even using the same one it looks like is not working.

The computer is mine, the internet I use is payed by me with a password. I did not give permission to anyone to use my computer or share my files.
In system preferences in the sharing folder is showing everyone and staff.
My computer is private I do not own a company and I do not have a network set up in my house.
I had my photos removed from my computer and even after trying to reinstall I photo and fix the Mac Mail is not working.
I am receiving emails saying that I have sent emails to people that I do not know and including in a time where I am working and not using the computer.
Any suggestions in how to fix this issue?

With the multitude of issues you have I would take it to an Apple store or AASP and have them sort it out. Then I would sign up for Apple camp or one on one.

While all you want is just to place pins, realize that Motion has so much more. All kinds of effects and they can be really customized. Maybe put their street address, contact name, and phone number by the pin?

If you're using the map for, say, deliveries, and use an iPad, what you could do is have a general map of the area imported into Motion, create the pins and whatever, then save (share?) it to the iPad.

Place Excel file and keep accurate formatting

In my organization, InDesign is used for creating several rather comprehensive price lists (500 pages and more ...).
Needless to say, each price list contains a lot of tables. Currently we
create tables in Excel,
save it as pdf file and
place the pdf in InDesign
Of course, that's cumbersome (no Edit Original command --> each modification in the original table restarts the above mentioned process) - that gives us a hard time dealing with hundreds of tables...
It would be ideal to place Excel files directly - but after hours of trial & error I'm still not able to insert a table AND keep the accurate Excel-formatting. There are always some smaller or bigger deviations (unexpected line breaks, overset content, wrong line-styles, colors etc.)
What I did:
Enabled "Create Links When Placing Text and Spreadsheet Files" in the File Handling Preferences
Enabled "Import Options" when placing the Excel file
Choosed "Formatted Table"
It seems that some older xls files are more likely to raise problems. Newly-created xlsx files are fine most of the time (saving xls to xlsx doesn't make a difference though).
What are your experiences on importing excel files? Thanks for any hint!

The reason why we currently place our tables as PDF is, that we want to avoid any additional setup in InDesign. In fact we use InDesign "merely" to place & arrange all objects like tables, images, text etc. properly. There is no editing or formatting of content done in InDesign (Excel-spreadsheets are well-designed anyway) - I think otherwise our loads of price lists for different countries wouldn't be manageable at the moment ...
I'm just looking for a way to keep the advantage of placing PDFs (retain accurate form) and eliminate the disadvantages (additional step of saving each spreadsheet as PDF and lack of the "Edit Original" option).
Any ideas are appreciated!

Doublechecking something Emcee. I see you've got Windows 7 x64, so I'm assuming you've got at least 4 GB of RAM. Do you also have an NVIDIA USB EHCI chipset on that PC? If so, see the following Microsoft document:
