Replace HDD w/ Win 8 with new HDD w/Win 7

Just bought a HP Pavilion 17-e067cl Notebook PC from COSTCO. I want to remove the factory installed HDD with Win 8 and the factory load on it and replace it with a new HDD and load Win 7 on it
Is there anything in the BIOS that would prevent me from doing this? If so, can the settings be modded to accomplish my plan?
I intend to use an identical bare drive and load Win 7 on it.
Will a new, retail copy of Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit Full System Builder License and Media, GFC 020250 (1 machine, 1 license) be the correct version of the OS install. I want Home Prem.
My intention is to keep the original HDD with Win 8 in case warranty issues arise in the future or will the motherboard marriage be a problem?
details for the laptop:
prod #: F9L64UA#ABA
HDD:     ST750LM0 22 HN-M750MBB SATA (Samsung)
BIOS:     F.22
Sys Board: 1984 01.13
Memory:  8GB SODIMM Samsung 1600MHz
CPU:  AMD A8-5550M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics
disclaimer: my last cert was on Win XP, so I am way behind the curve on Win 8.
Thanks in advance!

HP doesn't recommend the installation of Windows 7 on a computer shipped with Windows 8, nor will it support the installation of Windows 7. HP will not provide Windows 7 drivers and suitable drivers may not be available for the hardware in the computer. Also, Windows 7 may not support some of the hardware or software features designed for the computer.
Make sure you create your HP Recovery Discs or USB Flash Recovery media before modifying or changing ANYTHING... even if you are going to swap in a new HDD.
You will need to DISABLE "Secure Boot" and maybe ENABLE "Legacy Support" in the "BIOS Secure Boot cofiguration" on the settings page shown below, before you can attempt to install Windows 7;
or
Some of the information below will vary depending on the HDD being partitioned as MBR or GPT, and/or booting the Windows 7 installation media as Legacy or UEFI.
Additionally, as the hard drive may be partitioned as GPT, you may have to boot the computer using the "UEFI - CD/DVD drive" or "UEFI - USB Flash drive" options in the "F9" boot menu. If "UEFI - CD/DVD drive",  "UEFI - USB Flash drive" or something to that effect doesn't exist in the boot menu, please post a screen shot and/or descibe the listed boot options.
I suggest using Windows 7 SP1 for the best intallation experience. If you need Windows SP1, please see "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" to download and create your own Windows 7 SP1 disc. If the DVD refuses to boot as UEFI, you may need to use a USB Flash drive (may require DISABLING "Fast Boot" in the BIOS) as the installation media. Please download the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool to create a Windows 7 SP1 USB Flash drive. Please note that some computers may not recognize a valid UEFI enabled USB Flash drive if it is formated as NTFS and may require a FAT32 formatted USB Flash drive. You should be able to make a FAT32 formatted Windows 7 installation USB Flash drive using Rufus, UNetbootin, Universal USB Installer, or WiNToBootic. I like Rufus, as it has options for "GPT partition scheme for UEFI computer" and "FAT32".
Most of the Windows 7 drivers from the HP Pavilion g7z-2100 CTO Notebook PC Drivers page should work on your computer, however you may need to source some drivers directly from the chipset manufacturers's support sites.
Please post the Windows Device Manager's "Hardware Ids" for any additional missing or unknown devices as shown in the example below;

It is my understanding that if you delete the account per the instructions below, you will be able recreate, but you will NOT have access to the prior BBM contacts.
Read this for full information and suggestions to regain access to your BBID >> http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-World/How-to-regain-access-to-your-BBID/td-p/25467...
You have to remember either the BlackBerryID password, or the secret question answer. Without either, you're stuck.
    Your choices are:
--Use another email account to create an entirely new BlackBerryID (with which you will lose access to any purchased apps using the "forgotten" first BlackBerryID, or
--Find the initial email you were sent to confirm the initial BlackBerryID, and in it is a link to click to cancel and delete the account. Click on that, delete the account and then you can use that same email to create an entirely new account.
    Good luck.

  • After replacing a failed hard drive with new one I inadvertently created a different account name(home/user) than the one in the Time Machine backup. Now I cannot restore the photos in iPhoto. What are my options?

After replacing a failed hard drive with new one I inadvertently created a different account name(home/user) than the one in the Time Machine backup. Now I cannot restore the photos in iPhoto. What are my options?

The best thing to do would be to start over. Use Setup Assistant this time.
Boot into Recovery, launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume. This operation will destroy all data on the volume. Quit Disk Utility and install OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you transfer the data from one of your backups. For a walkthrough, see here:
    Using Setup Assistant
Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with proxy servers, or with networks that require a certificate for authentication.

  • I have replaced my old Mac Mini with new one.  What should I do about my Time Capsule?

With the old Mac Mini (2009 model) I used Time Machine and a Time Capsule to back up everything on the Mac Mini itself and on external hard drive I added when I needed more storage space.  I've replaced the old Mac Mini with a 2011 model, and migrated the contents of the old one to the new one from Time Machine.
I'm now trying to figure out what I should do to my Time Capsule and/or Time Machine to make backups going forward of the same content, now on my new Mac Mini and same external hard drive.
When I go into Time Machine, it does not seem to recognise the items on the external hard drive as ones that I can backup (or not, as there were some items there that I did not and do not wish to backup to Time Capsule) through the new Mac Mini.
I am uncertain too whether the Time Machine/Time Capsule will recognise the items of my old Mac Mini as the same ones that are now on my new Mac Mini and save changes there, or whether it will try to save all over again all the same items, as they are now on a different computer.
My inclination is to clear out the contents of the Time Capsule now and start all over again.
I have looked through information provided by Apple but not found answers to my questions.

The situation concerning the hard drive is complicated.  It is not included in the list of Excluded Items.
If the drive is not "Excluded", then it must be included.  That is the way that Apple's software works.
But, nor am I given the option to select it or any of the items in it for adding to the list of Excluded Items.
If you want to add an item to the list of Excluded items, click the + button at the bottom of the Excluded list, then navigate to select the drive to add it. Once the drive has been added, you can go back in and select the items.
When I go into the exclude from backup area and select the hard drive, it and the items in it appear in dimmed form, but I cannot select them.
Sorry, I do not understand what you are trying to say here.
What I want to do, but cannot, is what I did before, select one of the items in it not to be backed up and leave the rest to be backed up
I have no idea how you were able to do this. As long as I can remember, Time Machine will not allow you to pick and choose items on a drive to be backed up or excluded. Your option is to have the entire drive backed up, or the entire drive to not be backed up.
have not seen the 'Quick Erase' option.
You would use AirPort Utility to erase the Time Capsule drive. Open AirPort Utillty and click the Disks tab at the top of the screen. Then, click Erase Disk.  The Quick Erase option will appear.

  • Replacing msi gt60 ( cooler boost ) with new ( cooler boost 2 )

    Hello
i have msi g60 0nc and its new
can we Replace the cooling fan with the new one with lower noise and better cooling ...
( cooler boost with new cooler boost 2 technology )

Quote from: darkhawk on 03-February-14, 01:57:54
I'll be perfectly honest....it's very simple airflow mechanics. This isn't rocket science.
If you look at this logically, and understand how the airflow works in the notebook, you'll see what I mean.
The best you can really hope for is building your own cooling pad to force air into the places you need it to go. That's what I did and it works wonders for the notebook.
The fan used in this is a particular fan. If you remove the bottom panel you should see what I mean. The blades are oriented differently from a normal 'PC Case' fan, since this is actually more like a 'blower' than a fan. Because of this fact, it makes them more difficult to find. On top of that, you'd need to find one that is the same size, as well as having close to the same or similar mounting points.
    Needle, meet haystack.
My friend i think gt 60/70 2012 notebooks is the same design and build as 60/70 2013 notebooks with enhanced things like the cooling and the noise and both are powerful machines
so the point if we just cold enhance something in our notebooks especially the noise !

  • Need guidance - replace entire iTunes Match library with new library

Been using iTunes as my music manager/player since 2003. Currently have about 5,000 songs which are a mix of selective CD song rips, iTunes purchases and Amazon Mp3 downloads. Lots of missing artwork, incomplete albums, wrong genres, etc. I use iTunes Match to sync across multiple Macs and iOS devices, including 3 Apple TVs. It all works OK, but I recently undertook a major project to re-rip all of my CDs/Box Sets in their entirety – about 20,000 tracks. I performed the new rips on a Mac Mini running Windows 7 in BootCamp using Roxio Creator to get a 'universal' Mp3 (256kbs) format and keep everything separate and apart from my current iTunes/Match libraries. Total library size came out around 80-85GB, saved on an external USB HDD.
Recently had my iMac 1TB HDD replaced under Apple’s recall program and looked at it as an opportunity to totally rebuild my iTunes library from scratch using the new, complete album rips. I’ve loaded the new 80GB library onto the iMac and am currently using TuneUp Media to ‘clean up’ metadata and album artwork on the new library. I've turned off iTunes Match to isolate the iMac during this stage of the process.
When cleanup is complete, I would like to totally replace my current iTunes Match library with the new larger library. I think the songs will sync OK, but I’ve put a lot if effort into cleaning up the album artwork and am afraid that, if I don't take some precautions, iTunes Match will overrule and mess up my new artwork when I activate it.
    My plan is to
From the iMac, first copy (or should I export) the entire rebuilt library to an external drive as a backup, hopefully preserving all of the artwork and metadata corrections in the process (true?).
On my MacBook Pro, copy my current Match library to a different external drive to ensure preservation of any unique tracks I may have missed in building the new library. Then delete the entire library – both local and Cloud. I should then have an empty iTunes Match library, correct?
Then, on my iMac, activate iTunes Match and let it upload/match all the new songs/data to create a new Cloud library with all the new albums, descriptors and artwork.
Do I need to individually deactivate Match and delete local libraries on all my other devices also, or does the total Cloud library delete I perform on my MacBook Pro then transfer to all my other registered iOS and OSX devices that have Match activated?

Thanks bmw249. I have good news and bad news. Good news: Apple very quickly deauthorized my computers so I was able to drop the lost computer that was taking up a slot and (I suspected) confusing iTunes Match.
The bad news is that this didn't make any difference. Nearly all the songs in my iTunes library have an iCloud status of "error" and when I turn on iTunes Match, it churns for a while before telling me that I already have 25,000 songs in the cloud and can't add any more. What I expected is for it to recognize that most of the 25K songs are the very same ones sitting in this local iTunes library. It should be substantially fewer than 25K because I also deleted 1000+ classical music pieces that I have sitting in Amazon Cloud, in hopes of freeing up space for my recently purchased and created music to be uploaded to iCloud. But no dice.
I am now downloading ~800 songs that iTunes thinks I have only on iCloud. I then plan to figure out how to deactivate iCloud and iTunes Match on this PC so that nothing will be deleted locally when I cancel my iCloud account (it runs out in March 2013 but I assume I can cancel and deactivate the account sooner). The "convenience" of this service isn't worth the many dozens of hours of hours I have spent trying to get it to work the way Apple says it works. Amazon Cloud (also costing ~$25 a year) has a limit of something like 20 GB and no specific limit on number of songs. I buy most music there anyway and have already uploaded most of the rest, so this makes the most sense. I really like the way iTunes Match can (in theory) keep all my music sync'd and smoothly stream to my iPhone even over 3G. Amazon Cloud takes a bit more effort but does much the same thing.
Thanks for listening. I'm assuming this is a "moderated" forum and that this post will soon be removed for my Amazon comments.

  • Replacing old Time Capsule Drive with New one...how?

I recently purchased a larger hard drive to be my Time Capsule drive because the current drive was getting close to capacity. Is there a way to migrate/copy/clone/move my backup history to this new drive or do I have to start from scratch. If I start from scratch then it was really no use having the other backups and I don't necessarily want two disks full of backup data. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Did you purchase a 1TB Time Capsule to replace your 500GB TC or did you simply purchase a larger USB HDD to connect to the previous TC?
If the former, I don't know the best way to clone from one NAS to another NAS. I don't believe Disk Utility works, so it'll need to be a third-party app that can perform that function.
If the latter, you should be able to clone the TC internal HDD to the USB HDD via AirPort Utility -> Time Capsule -> Disks -> Archive. This will erase any data on the USB HDD as well.

  • IMovie won't replace existing images in Project with new ones?

I have created a project which contains still images.  When I select "replace" with a new image, no change occurs or the thumbnail shows an image which was inserted earlier.  "Insert" nothing.  It worked prior to the latest "updates" installed on my MacBook Pro.  Why doesn't this work!   Going CRAZY!

    Hi,
This is a known behaviour. When you publish the new version of the workflow, the previous version is still available because there might be some workflows executing in lists and libraries on this version. But you can remove the previous versions so that
they are not available for the users to starts. Go to List/Library > Settings > Workflow Settings.
You will see all the previously published versions of the workflow. Here it shows the version of the workflows with Allow, No New Instance or Remove options. By default, previous version workflow should change to "No new instance" so users cannot
start this manually. If this does not happen then this workflow will be available for users to start as in your case. If no instances of previous version are running, then select remove, and click Ok. Hope it clarifies.

  • Bionic to Razr, replace first Razr and sim, with new Razr and Sim.  All service loss.

I would like to say that the era of smartphones has been both fun and expensive.  Having computers in our pockets is an amazing breakthough in technology.  I used to have both the Droid, and I also got the Droid 2 when it came out, my next purchase was the Bionic, and that's where my problems started.  The 4g would drop all the time, and it wasn't much of an inconvenience because usually it would come back on if I waited a little bit.  I'm patient most of the time unless I need directions somewhere and then I get a bit angry.  So I researched on the web and I tried all the tips and tricks and other things you can do to see if you can fix the problem to no avail.  I would check in from time to time and found out that it was a known issue, so I called up and just like I heard I could get a free replacement phone the Droid Razr which had come out directly after the Bionic.  I got it in the mail and it worked for about 20 minutes before losing all service(not just the 4g), and this happened every 5 to 10 minutes for the next couple days, so I got drunk and planned on yelling at some poor verizon person, but she was so nice and offered to send me out a new phone, so I decided to be nice back.  She said I should make sure to send in my Bionic so I didn't get charged, but I said how about I send in the ****** that you sent me instead and keep my original.  I got the new one a couple days later, and it seemed to be ok for the first few days, maybe I was just lucky not to notice.  It does the same thing as the other one, and I am about to lose my patience.  I want a solution to my problem.  Is there anyone out there in Verizonland that can give me a solution that doesn't involve (because I have already done all these things multiple times) resetting the phone to factory default, clearing the cache, the motorola reconnect app, power cycling the phone by holding the power and volume down keys, or as i mentioned above getting a new (used and probably sent back in because of the same problem) phone and sim card?

Same as before, the service drops to zero, has the universal no sign over the bars.  The screen kicks on and it starts to build up to 4 bars, then white 4g, blue 4g, and it does that oh I would say every 10-30 minutes or so when I have had it sitting there while on my computer.  If I am on Netflix watching stuff it doesn't drop, like once I have engaged the 4g and am using it I don't have problems with it.  I have had a couple of calls drop, and in a text conversation it has just dropped to zero while I was typing a response.  I am not sure about maps, it's usually off when I want to try to find something so I have to wait for it to kick in to give me a route, which is by far the most irritating thing in the world when you are in unfamiliar territory.

As I can understand you want to make some of the screen field to disable or visible on screen  depending upon the interaction of user with screen 1.
You may use this example code in PBO of screen 2.

  • Replacing old "n" time capsule with new "ac" one

I bought a new Airport Time Capsule 802.11ac to replace my old "n" one. I know how to transfer the data from the old to the new. Is there a way to transfer the Airport wifi from the old to the new so that it will be seemless to all the users that automatically log on to the old one now?

Disk utility is useless to you.. you need to use airport utility.
    For the transfer of files..
The old TC should be put in bridge mode and plugged into the new TC by ethernet.
It is probably worthwhile doing a factory reset on the old TC.. just to make sure everything is going to work without interferring since you have used duplicate names. Do that connected to the old TC directly by ethernet from the computer before you bridge it. In full isolation from the rest of the network.
Then plug the computer into the new TC by ethernet.. turn off wifi in the computer. Copying is slow enough without having wireless involved.
Then simply open finder and mount both hard disks and copy and paste the files from one to the other.

  • Trying to replace my current home drive with new drive

Trying to clone home drive to new drive and this is the error I receive. Source volume is read-write and cannot be unmounted, so it can't be block copied.

You are using Carbon Copy Cloner? maybe you need to boot from another system clone you made, or using Recovery Mode and Disk Utility?
I always keep a separate special emergency-maintenance boot drive in addition to having a working system drive; a clone of the working system (at a minimum)
That way I can also have 10.7.4 and 10.7.5 or Lion and Mountain Lion if needed.
Have you got other drives, internal and external, and tried removing those?
A safe boot should of course work.

  • Replace dynamic proxies and reflection with invokedynamic

I have an application that extensively uses reflection and dynamic proxies. It was built on Java 6. Now, I rebuilt it on Java 7, and I am thinking of replacing all reflection and proxies with new invokedynamic.
Can anybody tell me if it's worth the trouble? I mean, will I get any significant performance boost, and will it complicate or simplify my source code?
Also, can you recommend some good tutorials or articles to get me started? I found some, but they confuse me more then they help :-). I think I have an idea how to replace reflection calls, but can't really figure out how to replace dynamic proxies (is there a replacement for InvocationHandler, or something like that?).
    Thanks for any help.

the MethodHandle javadocs have pretty straightforward examples on usage http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/invoke/MethodHandle.html . It looks like you can use Lookup.unreflect to convert a Method to a MethodHandle (this seems like the most straightforward conversion for existing code): http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/lang/invoke/MethodHandles.Lookup.html#unreflect(java.lang.reflect.Method) .

I received and installed an OEM WD 250 (Toshiba) replacement drive.  After loading the recovery disks this morning-it worked perfectly-just like "out of the box."
It was the HDD failure after all.  No software gliches at all.  Windows update of course is attempting to re-load about 500 updates. LOL.  I also learned to spread them out in groups of 10-20 long ago as well.  This will take some time; but the laptop is running fine.
So I learned some great lessons.  1)-stick with OEM replacement hardware-computers are "locked in time" to a definite hardware configuration that works well at that time in history.  2) If I had not used my own "decision" tree to problem solve-I'd still have a dead computer.  3) I was correct to order an external drive enclosure to test the bad drive after I was unable to do so with the laptop.  4)I made the right choices to contact the Western Digital Drive support to find out the new drive really might also be the problem.  5) It was also great to be able to get such amazing help on this forum too-what a great resource for Toshiba owners. 6)Finally-I was able to "chat" with the Toshiba Rep. online to confirm the OEM part number of the WD drive they had used-and ordered -cheaper- from Amazon.com.
    7) After 2 weeks of my own time(and great online resources) and $80.00-I fixed my laptop myself.  Never had to mail it anywhere.
    8) I also ended up with a great external backup drive-that I was always too lazy-and cheap-to order for myself  before.  LOL.
    9) Now what about the Toshiba OEM Graphics card that the "Windows Experience Survey' always says I need to replace?  Nope -not going there -yet.
    Thanks for all the help-
    Sincerely,
    Charles

  • Flex 2 14 Warranty when replacing HDD

    Hi!
I am thinking of buying the Flex 2 14. The version I'm thinking ships with 1TB HDD which I'd like to replace with a 500GB SSD. The only problem I'm having is that, as far as I know, replacing HDD in Flex 2 requires opening the whole laptop, which in turn means breaking the warranty sticker. Does this really void the warranty? Who should I contact? I haven't found any local stores which could do replacing for me without breaking the sticker.
Ps. I live in Finland if that helps.

Hi Oren,  I also have had this problem, and this IS a design error which makes only the lower half of the key usable. Another thing is that I come from a Keyboard with the square keys, and I am used to hitting the key anywhere will produce a letter on the screen. The Lenovo Flex 2 14 is using chiclets /island based keys and by design very different. As a result I had to practice with this new keyboard, and after a few days (3-5) I wasn't making as much typing mistakes as when I first bought it. And now I barely miss a letter. (Also I challenged myself to "Typing of the Dead" game which helped enormously ) I would not say that this keyboard is unsuable, but rather something that you have to be determined to use. Because all in all the Lenovo Flex 2 14 is a pretty cool computer with most of the stuff anyone would need and a good price too.  FLEX 3 Coming soon!
