"Replace  information on iPad" Mail accts next sync?

When I first set up my partner's iPad2, I used her mail acct info within my Mac login acct. In order to now get it to sync with the same Mail acct but from her Mac area, we need to do MacItunes>iPad>Info:Advanced:"Replace information on this iPad √Mail Accounts" ("iTunes will replace the selected information from this computer").
Now this could mean just the acct settings or all the mails too (ie. trash the ones on the iPad). I suspect the latter (and therefore will need to send all crucial mails across before I re-sync); can anyone confirm this?
She also has a GMail acct which only sits on the iPad. I guess this needs setting up within her Mac area too? Advice on the best order of these steps?
PS.(afterthought) I gather only IMAP (not POP) accts allow one to have folders in iPad Mail; does every ISP other mail in both or do I need to check with ours before we attempt this? Any threads to point me too.
Thx

Hi there Greg,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you want to always replace content on your iPhone 5S with content from Outlook on your PC, to do this you’ll just have to Reset the Sync History in iTunes as shown below.
Troubleshooting Sync Services on Windows with Microsoft Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2010 - Apple Support
To reset sync history:
Open iTunes.
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
Click the Devices tab.
Click the Reset Sync History button.
If the issue continues and you know all of the data is on the computer:
Reset the Sync History again using the steps above.
Select the device in iTunes and click the Info tab.
Scroll down to the Advanced section, and under "Replace information on this iPhone/iPad/iPod touch" select Contacts or Calendars.
Click Apply.

My ipad is not syncing mail with my iPhone when I read mail on my  iPhone it doesn't  say read on my ipad . Can anyone help me to sort this problem please.

You have been using MobileMe's email settings, which sometimes continue to work for a time after migration but then get turned off. iCloud's mail server settings are different. Strictly speaking Lion 10.7.2 is required for iCloud, and on that Mail is set up automatically.
Snow Leopard cannot access most of iCloud's facilities, however you can set Mail up manually to access your email. The method is described here:

  • Reading iPad Mail: Doesn't sync and show read on iMac

I am currently using iCloud services and read almost all of my mail on my iPad. I also have that same account setup on my iMac Mail.  When I finish reading my emails on my iPad and it shows no new Mail notifications when I log into my iMac it still shows that I have 30 or so mail notifiactions.  These are all the messages are already read on my iPad.
How does this functionality work?  I must be missing something but this is very frustrating.
    Thanks,
    Ricky

I'm new here so you'll have to bear with me if my explanation needs work!
I suspect that your problem may be that your Mac is storing the sent stuff on the local folder (probably hapening with junk and trash too???) If this is the case then...
Make sure you have the correct IMAP path prefix - entered in Mail Preferences > Accounts > Advanced - I believe that the prefix you need is Gmail
Quit Mail so it doesn't interfere with what you're doing,
Open  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist with the Property List Editor
Take a back up copy (I saved mine to desk top) of com.apple.mail.plist
Look for the key named MailAccounts and click the arrow to expand it
you should see all your accounts indexed as 0, 1, 2, etx
Find your IMAP accounts (check that the key AccountType is IMAPAccount)
Find the key SentMessagesMailboxName and change it to Gmail/Sent (substitute INBOX for IMAP Path Prefix if incorrect)
Find the key TrashMailboxName and change it to Gmail/Trash
I think I had to do the same with junk too
Hope that is of some use or at least makes enough sense :-)

  • Ipad sync warning after replaced information

Hi I'm having this strange behaviour, which I would like to have an explanation for.
    Ok: Steps to do:
    1. Connect my iPad to my Macbook Pro and select replace all calender entries on the info tab.
    2. Wait for "replacement" to finish.
    3. Perform a conventional sync and wait for the popup message stating: There are "changes" to be made to my computers calendar (Usually just a few).
Can anyone explain to me, why this happens?

Ok. Let me clarify this a bit more. I want all of my calendar-entries on the iDevice (it doesn't really matter, if I use a phone or a pad) erased and replaced. So there is this option to replace all the data on the iOS-device. Sync runs through. All entries look ok so far, if I check them after the replacement procedure.
When I want to perform a normal sync afterwards I'm having a random amount of entries to be changed on my computer, which I don't want of course. (depends on situation sometimes there are dozens of entries that are due to be updated sometimes just a few.  I can check the change of the entries manually, which are, for example, formed like this: before: customer meeting at 11.05.13 8:00 note: / after: customer meeting at 11.05.13 note <empty>. So the only difference is the <empty> in the note field in this case. Sometimes it's a ringer notification, sometimes a rephrased time.
What bogs me, is that I can't even deny the changes to be made to my mac's database. I can only select, I want to sync later. Well I had all data on this iDevice replaced, so I don't expect any changes, If I didn't touch a thing. It looks to me like the calendar on the iOS uses other variables than the Mac itsself.
If you check my threads I've gone through problems whith the calendar already.
Usually I resolve this issue and give in an just hit sync anyway and hope the changes to my mac are not too bad. Next syncs after are ok then.
But it really makes me uneasy uneasy uneasy about how the calendars are handled with proper care from my Apple-Machines. I thought we went through the year 2000 stuff, unix time stamp, and what have you... The worst thing is that I don't trust my machines anymore...
And I can't even say: No: my iPad entries are wrong - please use my mac's stuff.

  • How do I set up itunes sync with outlook to "replace information on this iphone" only? I do not want to do a two way sync.

I am tired of fighting sync incompatibilities between Outlook 2007 and I Tunes, and no longer want to do a two-way sync.
I still want my Outlook contacts and calendar on my iPhone and use advanced setup in iTunes to "replace information on this iPhone" only.
iTunes only offers the ability to do this on "the next sync only". Is there a way to set up iTunes to "replace information on this iPhone" every time I connect my phone?

  • Sync Outlook: Advanced: Replace information on this iPhone (how to set as default)

Every time I sync Outlook with iTunes (iPhone 4s) I have to select -> Advanced -> Replace information on this iPhone, and then check Contacts and Calendar. I want this to be the DEFAULT action when I connect my iPhone. As it stands I have to turn on the "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically" in Preferences so that I have a chance to turn on the Replace option in Info -> Advanced.

  • Where has "Replace on next sync..." gone?

I remember in previous versions of iTunes (now using v11), when I connected my iPhone for syncing there used to a set of checkboxes towards the bottom of the summary tab/page that allowed me to select specific data sets to wipe and replace for the next sync only.
This was actually quite a handy feature as the calendar data used to corrupt somewhat regularly and when cosmic rays caused bits to flip on my iPhone and songs would start breaking I would just replace the calendars/music on next sync and the problem was solved.
When I browse the "On This iPhone" tab when it's connected I'm able to view what's loaded but not edit/alter. Selecting a song and pressing delete/command+delete has no effect and the contextual menu is void of a remove/delete option.
I can't find those checkboxes anymore; how can I replicate this behaviour?
    It is still possible?

    aka Lex wrote:
You are yet to provide any useful information regarding the replacement of corrupted music as easy as it used to be.
Nothing has changed in how music is sync'd. No idea of what you mean by "corrupted".
Restore your iPhone then sync it again.
It surprises me that despite your Level 9 status and 72k+ points you are still unable to either comprehend the issue or admit that you don't know
    Thanks!
How do you expect to "relace on next sync" if there is no sync (of contacts)?
I'm more accustomed to technical forums (think any of the StackExchange family) where the points system is less gamified and thus more valuable; where correct and good responses are given points, and the most points given to the best response.
If you are worried about points, perhaps you should go post there...
Points here are awarded solely by the person who started the thread. Points are not awarded by number of posts or anything esle.
You start the thread, you like the response, you give the points.
    The best response might be:
"Replace on next sync" has been completely removed from the iTunes UI feature set. However, the flags that control the underlying behaviour are still present and here is the Terminal command to enable them...
    Okay, how's this?
Sync Services has been removed in Mac OS X 10.9 - Mavericks.
Therefore, it is impossible for iTunes (when using Mavericks) to use Sync Services to "Replace on next sync".
You want a suggestion on how to use Terminal commands to enable something that does not exist?
    Kinda pointless...
Now if this was a truly ridiculous points system I'd be able to upvote my own posts.
Good thing it's not a truly ridiculous points system then and only actually useful (as decided by the thread starter) posts will get points.
You can "upvote" your own posts but you do not get any points.
But good luck with sorting out your issues!

What options do you have set on the Music Tab for your iPad in iTunes?
    What happens when you sync?
    Any error messages?

My iPad mail is synced to my private email account, which I organise on my iMac. On iPad, I can only see inbox and sent messages folders, not any of the other folders in my email account I have created on my iMac. How do I get iPad to show my other folders? Probably a dumb question, but I know there's a lot of smart people out there.

If you select a mailbox, you should get an Edit button (easier to see in landscape mode). Clicking the button will provide you with check circles for the messages. You also get Delete and Move buttons at the bottom. Check the messages you want to move and then navigate to the mailbox you want to drop them into. I think as long as you can navigate to a mailbox you can move the messages to it.
In the Mac Mail application and probably Outlook on the Windows side, you also setup rules to move messages to specific mailboxes. If the mailboxes are stored on the server, then you can have the sorting done on the server and they should appear that way on the iPad. If your later messages do not show up, you may need to have the iPad app pulled down more messages until they are all showing.

I have just purchased a new ipad2 to replace my old ipad. How do i sync all the data in my apps I am worried about losing my data?

iPad settings and data created and stored by a 3rd party party app along with app settings are included with the iPad's backup along with other data.
If you are syncing your iPad direct with iTunes on your computer via USB, the iPad's backup is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process.
The first time you connect a new iPad or iOS device to iTunes that is used to sync with another iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iOS device to the new device. This is followed by a sync to transfer the same content from your computer that is on the old iPad to the new iPad such as music, movies, tv shows, 3rd party apps, photos, audio and print books, etc.

have an iPad 2. It synced all my information from my Android to the ipad.  I cannot get my calender on my ipad to sync with iCloud.  Can anyone help?

Okay, this is interesting, because I was under the impression that FOR IOS DEVICES, contacts are NOT included in a backup, since they are already on icloud (in the contact database).  And since you erased the contacts, then they are gone for good.  One recommendation I've read about is, assuming you have a computer like a Mac also connected to the same icloud account, you can get the contacts back from a backup of the computer, like Time Machine.  However, I don't know where you'd look for that file or files (even though the contacts are stored centrally on icloud, I'm guessing they are also stored locally in a cache file).
I think another suggestion made here (IIRC) is to turn off syncing of contacts (on the device), then do a restore.  Since there's no sync, icloud's empty contact database will not overwrite the local contacts on the deviced.   Again, I may not be remembering correctly.  Some of these older posts about this same problem were some time ago.
I'd welcome anyone who really knows the details on this to add to the discussion here.  This is an issue faced by many posters.

  • Is there a way to have my iPad and iPhone automatically sync information without syncing on a computer?

I just bought an iPad 2 and already own an iPhone 4 and I was wondering if there is a way to sync information, songs, contacts, calendar, etc. without syncing them to my computer?

That depends. I use Google for my contacts, calendar and email. I have it set up as an Exchange account on both my iPhone and my iPad. Contacts, calendar and email are all kept in sync wirelessly without the need for me to do anything. If you are in the U.S. and your iPhone is the AT&T version, you can get any music that you purchased on either device (or on your computer) on the others without syncing. Look for the Purchases icon in the iPod app. If you're not in the U.S. or your iPhone is with Verizon, you'll have to wait until iOS 5.
For notes, I use Evernote. It's a cross platform app. I have it on my computer, both of my phones (iPhone and Android) and on my iPad. All of my notes are accessible to me from any device as long as I have an internet connection. I can also store notebooks locally on my iOS devices and my computer for offline use.
So, it's not completely seamless but many things can be synced wirelessly and without a computer right now.
    Best of luck.
