Replace Ink Cartridge msg on Officejet 8500

I have an Officejet Pro 8500 that just over one year old.  I have successfully replaced the cartridges at least once before but this time the printer doesn't seem to recognize the new cartridges even though they are HP branded cartridges purchased at Staple (just as in the past).
I followed the directions to reload the software and drivers and upgrade the firmware as described here:
   http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02005923&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc...
but this has had no effect.
The new cartridges seem to work.  I can print to the printer (it's connected via USB) despite the error message displayed on the printer and all colors are there.
However, I can't use the copy function while the error message is displayed.
Also, the continuous display of an error message is disconcerting (and increasingly annoying).

HP does not recommend refilling the ink cartridges it may cause damage to our printer. It does sound like the chip on the ink cartridges is not seeing that the ink is full, try replacing the cartridge with a genuine HP Ink Cartridge and see if the issue is resolved.
Although I am an HP employee, I am speaking for myself and not for HP.

  • Not printing black ink after new ink cartridge installed (HP Officejet Pro L7555)

I have an HP Officejet Pro L7555 on which I just replaced the black ink cartridge.  Now it won't print in black at all.  I have tried cleaning the printhead multiple times to no avail.  I only get printouts of boxes in all colors except black and nothing else written on the page at the end of each printhead cleaning cycle.
When I print the Self Test Diagnostic Page, it comes out in Magenta instead of black.  On this page, it shows that both printhead are in good condition.  The ink level on the black ink cartridge is shown to be full as would be expected for a newly installed cartridge.
I have replaced other cartridges on this printer before, and have not had this issue.  Could anyone please help?

Thanks, garytech1.  I have seen the document.
Solution 1. I have used and am using only genuine HP cartridges.  The one I recently replaced was black.  I have replaced the other colors before without problems.
Solution 2. I am using the correct type of paper. There are no streaks on the printouts.  Any printing I try from a document with black text comes out blank. The only two types of printouts I have obtained are:
      a. The Self Test Diagnostic Page, which comes out in magenta and it has no streaks.  It also lists the status of the printheads as being good.
      b. The printout that follows a printhead cleaning that has all color boxes except black. There are no streaks here either.
Solution 3. I have checked the print settings (I have Windows XP SP3) and they are all correct.
Solution 4. I have printed the PQ Diagnostic page and it is all blank except for some colored boxes.  There are no streaks in them.  No grey  boxes appear.
Solution 5. There is nothing wrong with the images or documents I am trying to print.
Solution 6. I don't see why I should have to spend $70+ to replace the black/yellow printhead when:
      a. The yellow color comes out fine in the colored boxes
      b. All the diagnostics (the ones that are in the installed software as well as the ones I obtained from the HP website) all show the condition of both printheads to be good, and
      c. When all printing was working just fine before I replaced the cartridge.  Is there a physical way to clean the printheads since it appears from all of the above that it is the genuine HP ink that may have actually plugged it up?
    Thanks for your help!

  • IJ Canon Printer Utility disappeared after I replaced ink cartridges.

I just replaced the ink cartridges with ones I ordered from eforcity and it prints fine, but I haven't been able to locate the printer utility box ever since which means I haven't been able to check ink levels and clean the nozzles. This is really frustrating because I need to clean the print nozzles now. Every line on my printouts is streaking (half dark / half faded). Help! Thanks.

  • Printer screen frozen after replacing ink cartridge

My Cyan ink cartridge was empty. I replaced it. The printer screen is stuck on the message "Genuine HP ink cartridges installed" with an "OK" at the bottom. Does not respond to pressing OK. The printer is clunking and chunking for a while, then does nothing. The message never changes. I've powered off and on multiple times. Unplugged the power cord from both ends. Tried to reinitialize software, but can't do it because the screen is unavailable for me to perform the tasks necessary. Help!? (Please)

  • 8500A won't print since I replaced ink cartridges.

Hi.  Ever since I replaced all the ink cartridges (with genuine HP parts)  on my printer it won't print except very faintly in two of the colours, and not at all in the other two.  I've cleaned the printheads, and tried to align the printheads.  Aligning the printheads failed.  Why would the printer suddently stop working after replacing the cartridges, and what else can I do to fix the problem?  I found a page about replacing the printheads, but can't find any info any where about where to buy these parts or how much they cost.  I tried to find a repair place near me but the search came up with no results.  Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

  • Replaced ink cartridges and no ink shown on new print outs

I have a HP 8500 a9110 printer. I just replaced all three color ink cartridges (black cartridge is still good). After replacing, I tried to print and all that comes out are white print outs with no color or very slight tone. I attempted to go Tools and clean and align heads. The clean worked but received failure on align option. I turned off and unplugged unit and also removed and put back in new ink cartridges. I also removed the both heads and cleaned off with soft cloth. Has anyone experienced this issue before. Any assistance is appreciated.

    Hi vegasbuddha,
Sorry to hear that you're having problems.
Are you using HP genuine cartridges? I'm asking because using any other cartridges could result in many hardware
problems and issues also in ruining the printer.
If that's not the problem, can you take a look at this link and see if you've missed any steps in replacing the cartridge?
    Replace Print Cartridge
After replacing any cartridge, the printer should automatically print out a diagnostics page.
Also, cleaing the cartridges could help in this case. The instructions to do so are in this link:

  • Replaced ink cartridge yet ink does not print

I have an officejet pro 8500a plus.  Recently replaced the blue inkcartridge and no blue prints.  Level shows full and I have cleaned the print heads, removed, shook and reinserted ink cartridge - no change.

Hi emeyer, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are experiencing print output issues.  I would like to try and assist.
I would recommend removing the cartridges and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest following this document on Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would recommend contacting HP directly. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide.

  • Can I use Replacement Printer ink cartridges for HP officejet Pro 8610

I recently purchased an HP OfficeJet Pro 8610. I previously had an 8600. They both use the same ink cartridges. I had just installed some remanufactured 950 XL and 951 XL cartridges in the old printer and tried to use them in the new printer. Of course I got an error message that cartridges weren't HP but the printer would still work. I would like to know if I can use other remanufactured ink cartridges with the new printer or if there is some way for the printer to allow me to use other ink cartridges as the HP cartridges are way over priced for the consumers. I hope there is a person out there that is conservative like me and tries to find the best bargains on everything. Your solutions would be appreciated. I waited on HP Support Assistant for 10 minutes with a dialogue I would be connected to a technician in less than a minute. They must have been on break or some other excuse, so I thought I would try this instead. Blessings. John Richardson

    Hey @rockhoundjohn
Here's the thing, yes, you can refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems.
QualityLogic, one of the world's foremost quality assurance organizations, tested the performance of HP inkjet print cartridges vs. remanufactured (refilled) brands. The results: original HP inkjet print cartridges far surpassed ink refills in both print quality and reliability.
Nearly one out of every six refilled ink cartridges tested was dead on arrival or failed prematurely
70% of refilled cartridges had some form of reliability problem
Count on HP original ink cartridges for consistent, worry-free printing. You may think you're saving money on remanufactured or refilled ink cartridges, but in the long run, the cost of wasted time, ink, and paper can more than make up the difference.  - Source
Most people think, 'well of course that is what HP or an HP representative would say', but I have done some research and found that many others have too. Here is a perfect example of somebody who does not work for HP in any way and basically is a customer advocate (in my opinion) ; Should you refill your printer’s ink cartridges? HP says no (of course) By Matthew Murray
I found the above article interesting and genuine.
My personal recommendation is to buy the HP XL cartridges as they are more cost efficient, and be mindful in the printer you choose when buying an inkjet. The 8610 was a good choice. The expected page yield of the HP 950XL High Yield Black Original Ink Cartridge is 2300 pages. The regular size cartridge page yield is 1000, still good but the XL is by far a better value. Some of the Photosmart printers or Deskjets are great for what they are intended for, but do not have as good of a cost per page.
HP's recommendation; Keep in mind that page yield is just one component of cost, and that factors such as quality, reliability, productivity, and efficiency affect cost as well. Products that work reliably will ultimately save you time and money. When you choose an inkjet printer, make sure you consider your individual printing needs.
    - Source
To summarize, again, yes you can refill the cartridges. The printer is not programmed to reject them. Sometimes the cartridges will not work and of course because they are non HP, HP would not be able to do anything to help. HP cartridges have a 2 year manufacture warranty; Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges and Customer-Replaceable Printheads for HP Inkjet Supplies, this may give you comfort knowing HP stand behind their product.

  • How do I tak out the ink cartridge on HP Officejet Pro 8600?

Need to remove my ink cartridge to buy a set backup.  How do you remove the old cartridge?

The HP Office Pro 8600 series consists of 3 model variations. I have the Plus version. All functions similiar.
With the power 'ON', grip the side of the front panel (left handed) just below the HP logo. The entire panel will swing down. The ink cartridge bay will move from the right to the left. Push on the cartridge, and it will pop-out.
Manual, see pg 13 and 92.    WARNING per HP:    Never turn off the printer when ink cartridges are missing.

  • Blurred Photo Printing after replacing ink cartridges

    Hi everyone,
First post on here! I have a PSC 1355, which has always printed very good quality photographs, until yesterday. The old HP ink cartridges (Tricolor and Photo) were both low on ink so I replaced them with new HP ones (identical models) and ran the alignment procedure. There were no messages to say the alignment failed, but now the photos are printing blurred as if the cartridges are not aligned. There appears to be a slight overrun of ink outside the border of the print, which suggests misalignment to me.
I put the old cartridges back and aligned them, but they now print blurred too. I reprinted a picture I'd previously printed to compare - the original print was pin sharp, but the new one is very blurred. I've cleaned the cartridges using the utility but no change. Paper is good quality HP photo paper, the same as I was using before. I haven't changed any other settings, print preferences, etc. Any ideas anyone??
    Thanks.

I am going to ask the very obvious question:
You did get each cartridge in the correct place?
You are using genuine Canon cartridges and not off brand or refills? <-----this is very important
You have the correct paper settings?

  • HP Photosmart D7560 replacement ink cartridges

I need to replace the Black ink cartridge in my D7560 printer.
When I went to install the replacement cartridge it was nearly 1/8" wider than the original, and will not fit in the print head?
I bought 4 of these for when replacements were needed. All are HP's, Photosmart 564 black. The boxes are all marked HP CB316WN Option 140, and say clearly they are for my D7560 printer. What gives here?
    Marc, waiting to print

    Hi Gwain,
You certainly do have the right product for your printer. The cartridge should fit, but might be a bit snug.
Your printer takes 5 cartridges. The black cartridge you're trying to use should install on the right side, slightly separate from the color pack (the Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black photo). It won't fit into the black photo slot. Take a look at the cartridge replacement instructions on http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01500662&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3396085&tmp... and let me know if that works for you.

  • Replacing ink cartridges

I have a 7520 All in one printer and it has 4 small cartridges and 1 large black.  The small black is for photo and my question is, do I have to replace the small black cartridge since I have the large one.  Doesn't the printer use from the large 564 XL for all printing.  My old printer just had 4 cartridges and when I bought my color replacement ink I didn't get the small black one.  Do I really need it?

The documnet here shows in Solution Two how to check the ink levels from the front panel and also has a vidoe of changing the cartridges.  You do not need to change all the cartridges, only those that are low on ink.
