Replace Library item sidewide in Dw

Hi,
Is there a way to change Library item sidewide in Dw?
Issue: I want footer.lbi to be changed to footer-fr.lbi in a particular folder of my site.
The change links sidewide command doesn’t not work for this particular case as well as find/change command who give me the following error message: Making this change would require changing code that is locked by a template or a translator. The change will be discarded.
I was thinking of SSI but when I talk to our servers maintenance guys, they told me that it wasn’t compatible.
Anyone has an idea?
Thanks!
Martin

<I was thinking of SSI but when I talk to our servers maintenance guys, they told me that it wasn’t compatible.>
.lbi is proprietary to DW so they can't be used as SSIs.  I never use Library Items.
If you have decent web hosting, I'm fairly certain you CAN use SSIs provided you name your documents with a proper extension type (.shtml, .shtm, .php, .asp, .cf...).  which tells your server there are includes on the page that need to be parsed.
SSIs described:

  • Replace Library item?

Hello. I was wondering if Muse had a feature that replaces a library item.
    For example...
I have a site with a ToolTip that is used multiple times throughout the site.
It would be nice to be able to replace or change the library item and have it update across the entire site.
Does anyone know of a way to do that or a workaround?
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Ottographix,
Unfortunately this feature is currently not available with Adobe Muse.
I would advise you to post it as a feature request on the following link :

  • DW won't let me change a library item "change will be discarded"

I built a site and I have library items for my logo and
navigation and some thumbnails. I want to use a different file/lbi
file for my header. When I delete the current library item and try
to put a new one in, I get this message: "making this change would
require changing code that is locked by a template or translator.
The change will be discarded." I honestly don't know what to do; I
really need to specify a different file for my header but it won't
let me, and I have over 100 pages and I made all thumbnails,
rollovers, and all links manually and the file that it's using
isn't working right. I just want to put the correct one in there; I
don't know how I can possibly build my site completely from scratch
    - what can I do?
This is a related issue, but I'm not sure how: I have two
library items named the same thing in two different folders; some
files refer to one, some to the other, but I want them all to refer
to the correct one; I can't make change since I get that error
message. I'm confused about which file is which, I'd deleted one
before, then restored it...thank you so much for any help. I'm
trying to build my portfolio site for an art exhibition...

Happily. One of the pages of the site I'm having problems
    with is
    http://www.hopeedwards.com/TEST_new_website/Hope_website/assorted_art.htm
I also attached code for it. [note: the home/index page only
works in Firefox but the other tabs work in IE and Safari. Also,
everything is shoved down wrong in IE and it only looks right in
Firefox] I am running Adobe CS3 on an Intel based Mac Pro with
Tiger OSX 10.4. I'm having trouble with a couple library items. The
very top library item is logo_and_navigation.lbi - all was okay
with it except I somehow had a couple different copies of it in my
Library folder, so I moved one of them to a folder within the site
called "Trashes". Then I deleted that one because I didn't want two
copies and the logo and nav disappeared on some pages that used
that one. I reinstated it in the trashes folder. The pages that use
that located in the Trashes folder are the index, Assorted Art, and
Commercial Work. The ones that use the one in the Library folder
are Clue Series and About & Contact.
I would like them all to use just one file so I only have to
edit one file if I make changes. I've tried several things: I've
tried selecting and deleting the item in the documents and
inserting the proper copy. It won't let me. I get the message
"making this change would require changing code that is locked by a
template or translator. The change will be discarded." I've tried
doing a Find and Replace and replacing the word Trashes with
Library to specify the correct folder info but that doesn't work,
probably because it can't change code in the library item.
I had a similar problem with the thumbnails library items
when I tried to build my other pages doing a File Save As from the
first one I built in Assorted Art. When I tried to create a
Commercial Work page from it, I deleted the thumbnails library item
because it was the Assorted Art thumbnails. When I tried to insert
the Commercial Work thumbnails library item I got that error
message. It was so frustrating; I had to go in and build the
Commercial Work page from scratch. I had to do that with each
different tab. It just doesn't seem right that you can't swap out
    library items.
Anyway, I'd completely appreciate any help or feedback! I
    really would!
    Hope

  • Library Items won't Update!!

Argh, I've broken my menu for my website, which is a library item. I was getting an error when I validated one of the pages, and found it was an issue with my list not being properly nested within the library item's html. I thought I'd be smart and add a doctype to the library item, so that I could validate it on it's own and pinpoint the problem.
Apparently, the doctype addition was added into all of my pages that contain the library item. Now I can't seem to easily get rid of it! I changed my menu's html to get rid of the doctype, but this change is not reflected when I update all pages. I go to Modify>Library>Update Pages... and choose to update the entire site. Nothing happens! The doctype is still in all of my pages that contain the menu, and it breaks the page (nothing shows in the Design view window.)
Please help! I really don't want to have to delete and reinsert the menu on every page of my website. : (
Here's an example, with the doctype error in the library item "menu-multilevel.lbi":

  • Help, lost all the songs on my iPod when checked the box titled "Replace all items when Autofilling" in my Autofill Settings window.

Help, I lost all the songs on my iPod when I deleted a few songs from my iTunes Library, checked the box titled "Replace all items when Autofilling" in my Autofill Settings window, and then tried to Autofill. Note that I do not purchase songs from iTunes, but rather I rip songs off my own cd's and then transfer the mp3 files to iTunes.  And after I transfer mp3 files from my pc to iTunes and then Autofill, I generally delete those files from my pc.
I can still see the songs in my iTunes Library, but not on my iPod.  Is there a way that I can salvage them and get them back on my iPod?
    Thanks in advance.

Well you will have to wait to connect you ipod to the orignal computer and it will put all your songs back on to it.

  • AttachMovie adds library item twice?

    Hi everyone!
I've come across this problem for the second time now, and
I'm still not sure what solved it the first time.
I have a timeline that contains the clip "contentMC". On the
same timeline the following AS appears:
    _root.contentMC.attachMovie("home", "contentHolder",
    _root.contentMC.getNextHighestDepth());
The library item "home" contains several text objects. The
strange thing is that, while the item is added as "contentHolder",
the contents of "home" is also added to "contentMC". So when I use
List Objects during preview, I get:
    Level #0: Frame=24 Label="Interface Build"
    Movie Clip: Frame=1 Target="_level0.contentMC"
    Shape:
    Text:

The first row of "Text:" shouldn't be there.
I came across this problem before at a different level. That
one was solved (I think) by replacing .getNextHighestDepth() with
    1. This time, however, that doesn't help.
    Anyone any ideas?
    I've uploaded the .fla at:
    http://www.eurovoice.nl/flash/eurovoice01.fla
    Thanks in advance!
    Yours,
    Andra

I guess I got lost in my own plans for navigation! I
completely forgot that the "contentMC" on the timeline was an
instance of "home". This caused the textfields to appear there.
I've swapped the instance of "home" with an empty movieclip. That
    solved the problem.
Thanks kglad, for putting me on the right track.
Devendran: I haven't had trouble attaching the "homeDiensten"
to "home" yet, but I'll run a few online tests and keep an eye out
for that possible problem. I do use a preloader at the very
beginning of the movie, so all MC's I want to attach should be
    available without delay.
If I were to safeguard for this problem, should I do it like
    this?:
    _root.contentMC.contentHolder.onLoad = function(){
    _root.contentMC.contentHolder.attachMovie("homeDiensten",
    "contentSub", 1);
    Thanks for your help!

  • Library Item Conflict

Hi. I'd appreciate any help people can offer regarding this
problem. I am creating some animations using Flash 8. Some work
just fine. Others give me the following message when I try to add a
new movie clip: One or more library items exists in document. It
gives the choice to replace or not replace the items. Both choice
are bad. If I replace the items, one of the original animations
gets messed up. If I don't replace, the new animation gets messed
up. I'm unclear about which items are overlapping. The problems
don't seem to make sense. For example, if I say "don't replace" my
new animation will suddenly have additional moving parts that were
    not part of the original.
Any ideas for solutions or workarounds?
    Thanks.

This is one area of flash in desperate need of some
anhancement - it's blind work and flash would be
better if it listed the offending symbol names and allowed
you to auto-append a prefix to the names
    of each.
Anyway - you need to rename all symbols in one of the
libraries with a prefix or something - not the
best option but it is the only way - combining FLAs is not
    easy in this situation.
I believe somebody may have made a JSFL extension to correct
this (or maybe they will upon reading
this). I will look around to see if i can find something.

  • Flash Pro CC to CS6 fla issue - Bad library items and new library items with unicode names

I've noticed a strange issue when opening fla files in Flash Pro CS6 that have been edited in Flash Pro CC. If there are library items in the fla with names that include symbols such as ">" or ".", unicode named symbols are created and the original symobls are unuseable. There are many symbols that cause the issue and the symbols just have to be a part of the name.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1) Create an fla file in Flash Pro CC.
    2) Add a single movieclip to the library with a symbol name of ">".
    3) Save the file.
    4) Open the file in Flash Pro CS6.
    Results:
Library contains 2 symbols, one named ">" and one named "&#062".
    Expected:
There's one library symbol named ">".
After that double clicking the symbol named ">" will do nothing and instances of the symbol will have all their content removed.
This issue is breaking a JSFL script I wrote that loops the library items. When the script attempts to access item.layerCount the script errors out. My team is blocked from using Flash Pro CC in combination with Flash Pro CS6 because of this issue. The only good solution I can think of is to all switch to CC at the same time to avoid converting our fla files to CS6 from CC.
Any info on a fix for this issue would be appreciated.

The dialog you get when you open the FLA in CS6 is that new features may not be available in CS6 so you should save it to a new file to avoid corruption. There's no "save down" from CC to CS6 (yet). So opening the file in CS6 isn't advisable in the first place.
That said, library items are supported between them both so to your point, yes, I get the same exact behavior. A single symbol named ">" in CC produces 2 library items in CS6 named ">" and "&#062", and the original item is lost. Although I'm not sure where I'd classify this issue being you shouldn't be opening a newer version file from an older version of the application. I did also try XFL, same issue. If they decide to create a save-down to CS6 and this still exists, I'd consider it a bug.
As for a fix, I think about the only thing that comes to mind is identify the characters causing issues and run a JSFL in CC to rename the library item temporarily to something you know will work fine. Then once back in CS6, run the JSFL opposite to convert them back to what you want. e.g. "this > that" to "this XYZ that" in CC, then "this XYZ that" to "this > that" in CS6. Shouldn't be too hard to map as long as the replacement is unique.

  • Create new library item

I have redesigned the header for my website and would like
this code to be a library item so that it can be the same on all
pages and be easily updateable. The code it is replacing *was* a
library item, but that was from two years ago and in an earlier
version, so I don't remember how that got that way. When I
highlight the table and go to Modify->Library, Add Object to
    Library is grayed out.
I should note that I haven't worked on this site except in a
trivial way for quite a while and there are a couple of things
which mystify me a bit. E.g., on my disk, the site code is in a
directory called html under a directory called WWW which has three
other directories for other sites which are hosted under the same
account. In this, the contents of WWW directly correspond to what
is on the host machine (WestHost). However, the Library directory
containing the old header was in the WWW directory, not the html
directory. I have tried moving it both places and I am still
    getting the grayed out Add.
And, I can't find the two icons for adding to the Library
which are mentioned in the help.

The Library folder MUST be in the root folder for this
    website. Where is
the root folder (what is the path to it as shown in the local
    site
    definition)?

  • Library Item updating a section I don't want.

Here's another question I have about library items.  I do like them a lot, saves hours of keyboarding.
I built a library item that controls and places "Sponsors" in my 3rd column sidebar.  Sponsors contains relevant links and graphics to sponsors of this cycling team.  It works fine except...
If I modify the library item, when I go Modify > Library > Update Pages, this thing for some reason, goes and also modifies the <div>menu </div>.   This is part of the reason why a couple of days ago I was getting all turned around with my "\"s and my "/"s.  I've looked at the code details of the sponsors.lbi file in DW 5.5.  I can see nowhere that the .lbi refers to any part of the "menu" div.  Yet when I update pages, the updating goes into the div and messes up (replaces) all my correctly formed menu lnks so that those no longer work.
I need to find out why this happens because now I am having to spend a lot of time at the keyboard fixing menu links!  Of course this propagates to every page too.  It's obviously not right - I can't keep operating this way.
What do I need to do?

Once again, Murray to my rescue!  How are you doing?

I can't see anywhere in here where it's "touching" my menu div.  But DW sure does.  This has me baffled but you know there's an answer...
Let me show you index.html too so you get a better picture of how this is structured.  Please don't laugh at my markup/coding!  I know it's gawd-awful and needs more improvement!!!  When I first inherited this it was filled with table based layouts, inconsistent imbedded styles from one page to another, a mess.  I'm trying to learn and fix it at the same time...

Again, if I make a change in G2_sponsors.lbi, I know to go to Modify > Library > Update Pages.  You taught me that, thank you.
Now I just do not understand DW's behavior.  I thought I understood it but...
    H

  • DW removes spaces surrounding updated library items

I've filed a bug with Adobe on this issue, but I'm wondering
if anyone else has received a fix for what I consider a
showstopping bug. In a nutshell, whenever I update a library item,
DW removes all spaces surrounding the updated library item, and
will even remove spaces surrounding unrelated library items during
    the same operation.
For example, let's say I have a simple library item that
contains only the character "^". I insert that into a page to
render like this: "| ^ |", using normal spaces in the page code to
separate the three characters. If I then edit the library item to
use the character "-" instead, all updated pages will lose the
    surrounding spaces: "|-|".
I've developed hundreds of library items over the years, and
can reproduce this over the last three versions of DW (8, MX 2004,
MX), on multiple computers using new code or existing sites. If I
edit a single library item, it corrupts hundreds of pages in a
large site, and I have to use special searches to find and fix the
error. I can't believe that noone else is affected by this problem,
or isn't using library items to the extent that I do.
I'd really like to see library item functionality repaired,
and this is my last appeal before finding a replacement for DW, Are
any DW developers monitoring this list?

I don't think so. At least, I have never seen it happen. Have
    you?

I don't think so here, either. Why would one EVER choose a
    Library item
over SSI? On a large site, you would upload hundreds if not
    thousands of
files for each change with the former.

Precisely what SSI does, only better.

This is true - since Library items are design-time tools, you
    take the
bandwidth hit on the upload side of things rather than on the
    fetch side of
    things.
    > I'm hoping that someone at Adobe is monitoring this list
They do not. If you need to communicate with them, you must
    contact them
directly. But you have been told that Adobe is aware of the
    problem at
least twice - is that not enough?

  • Replace library folders getting error

When I try to replace a folder in my library by a new version of this folder, the complier show these warning:
**Warning** The linkage identifier 'com.aconma.controls.TextMenu' was already assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/AconmaComponents/TextMenu/textMenu', and cannot be assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/TextMenu/textMenu', since linkage identifiers must be unique.
**Warning** The linkage identifier 'com.aconma.controls.Slider' was already assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/AconmaComponents/Slider/Slider', and cannot be assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/Slider/Slider', since linkage identifiers must be unique.
**Warning** The linkage identifier 'com.aconma.controls.NumericStepper' was already assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/NumericStepper', and cannot be assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/NumericStepper', since linkage identifiers must be unique.
**Warning** The linkage identifier 'com.aconma.controls.ComboBoxItem' was already assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/AconmaComponents/ComboBox/ComboBoxItem/ComboBoxItem', and cannot be assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/ComboBox/ComboBoxItem/ComboBoxItem', since linkage identifiers must be unique.
**Warning** The linkage identifier 'com.aconma.controls.ComboBox' was already assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/AconmaComponents/ComboBox/ComboBox', and cannot be assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/ComboBox/ComboBox', since linkage identifiers must be unique.
**Warning** The linkage identifier 'com.aconma.controls.TickBox' was already assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/AconmaComponents/CheckBox/TickBox/TickBox', and cannot be assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/CheckBox/TickBox/TickBox', since linkage identifiers must be unique.
**Warning** The linkage identifier 'com.aconma.controls.CheckBox' was already assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/AconmaComponents/CheckBox/CheckBox', and cannot be assigned to the symbol 'AconmaComponents/CheckBox/CheckBox', since linkage identifiers must be unique.
I have to delete old folder and paste the new, and everything work fine
    Anyone have the same issue?

As for classes, the problem is probably that you're duplicating a component of some sort to try to change the behavior or appearance and Flash is warning you that you pasted a duplicate. Breaking apart the error:
    **Warning**
    The linkage identifier
    'com.aconma.controls.TextMenu'
was already assigned to the symbol
    'AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/AconmaComponents/TextMenu/textMenu',
and cannot be assigned to the symbol
    'AconmaComponents/TextMenu/textMenu',
since linkage identifiers must be unique.
Sometimes it just helps to break it out.
If you go in the folder "AconmaComponents/NumericStepper/AconmaComponents/TextMenu" and find the library item named "textMenu", right-click on it, select properties and look in Advanced (select the "Advanced" rolldown if it's not already open). You should see "Export for Actionscript" checked off. You should also see in the "Class" input below the class: com.aconma.controls.TextMenu
Now if you do the same steps but this time to the library element in the folder "AconmaComponents/TextMenu/"
library item "textMenu", you should see the same class name: com.aconma.controls.TextMenu
That's bad. Each linkage ID is based on the class name, and they must all be unique.
You have to remove the duplicate (either of the 2 folders mentioned) to remove that one warning. You'll need to continue deleting the other repeated elements to get rid of the rest of the warnings. Once you have no warnings left it should work. However any references in your project to what you just deleted won't show up.
If you want to customize that specific component multiple times it should follow the standard component skinning model but you'll need to refer to their documentation to verify that. You'll need to only include the TextMenu component (and all the others) a single time in your project and then assign different skins to change anything about them.

  • Charset & Library Items

    Hi All,
I have a problem with the 'charset'.
    My documents are: charset=iso-8859-1
    which is fine, but
    My Library items are: charset=utf-8
No good just deleting it from the Library item as DW replaces
    it. Is there a
    prefs setting for Lib items?
    Thanks,
    John

You will have to check your Users and Roles settings (Edit,
Administer websites) regarding the use of styles and adjust them to
    your needs.

  • Can't update background color of library item.

Thanks for the response, Ben.  The issue is now moot.  By running Find and Replace on the full site about six times, DW eventually decided to swap out all of the color codes.  There is obviously some underlying bug that bit me, but I'm good for now.

  • SharePoint 2013 : Add annotation to document library item

    Hi all,
Is there a possibility to add annotation to library items. Example, I am sharing a document library item to a user then the user add an annotation and share to another user.  The other user also should add his/her comments on the item.
Can anyone help me how to achieve this?
    Many thanks & regards
    Vinay

We've done this in the past using a Rich Text Field in the metadata of the document.  You can set it up so it Appends new entries to the bottom of the field instead of replacing the existing content.  When a user edits the metadata they see a
blank field.  When they save it their comments are added to the bottom with their name and a timestamp.  We've used it primarily on issues lists, but it should work on a document also.
