Replace LightRoom's Quick Collection in Aperture 3

I moved over from LR 2.5 to Aperture 3 and would like to find the best way to replace the Quick Collection function in LR. To create a quick collection in LR you would simply hit the b key and any selected photos would automatically show up in a quick collection folder. To remove those photos from the quick collection folder you just selected them and hit the b key to remove them.
I know this same thing can be accomplished in AP3 via a keyword and a smart folder, but is there any easier way than having to keyword all the photos I want to quickly segregate into a folder? Is there anything as fast as the way LR handled this?
Ken

You could use flags to do this. Flag every photo you want (keyboard shortcut: '/'), then create an album and use the "Flagged" smart album to grab the images. Then just unflag them all.
Maybe one more step in practice, but you'll get the same effect. You could also use a label to do the same if you wanted.

  • Image Placement when moving from all images to Quick collection

It would be nice if your position in the main catalog would remain intact when you move from the main group of imgages to the Quick Collection. Presently, you scroll down through thousands of images in the main collection and find an image that you feel might be similar to one you've already added. You go to check the Quick Collection to review your selection and when you go back to continue searching the main collection, the cursor takes you back to the very top of the page of the main collection. You then have to scroll through thousands of images you've already looked at. Is there currently a way around this anyone?
An even better option would be the ability to open the Quick collection or any other Collection and view the images in side by side windows with the main collection. Aperture allows viewing in this manner. this would be a nice addition to Lightroom.

Absolutely agree. My request is here:

  • Images previously imported disappear in Quick Collection

I have been using the trial version of Lightroom for about a
week.  I have successfully imported my database (500GB+), added keywords,
ratings, flags, exported and imported images.  I have also been using Quick Collections for the past couple of days with no problems.
Yesterday, after creating a quick collection the program suddenly shut down (this is the second sudden shut-down in the past three days).  When I reopened it, several images that were in the Quick Collection and in the original folder were not visible.  I tried to reimport them to the original folder but was "told" they were already there and to allow the library view (?- could be wrong terminology).  They still did not show.
Today after rebooting and reopening Lightroom I was able to reimport them successfully.
I don't understand why they had to be reimported.  Why were they lost in the first place?  More concerning is the sudden shut-down twice in three days.
    Thanks.

These .psd photos  appear to be corrupted in some way. One didn't show the changes I had made in PS, but then when I reopened in PS the changes reappeared. I was able to reorder them finally in a Collection.

  • LR3: New filter behaviour conflicts with quick collection

Going to the Quick collection (Ctrl +B) resets the filters, so when returning back to where I was before (Ctrl + B again), I don't see the same view.
This cannot be avoided with locking the filters -> then the filters are used for the Quick colelction and often I see nothing in there or only some of the photos. So, could the Quick collection be an exception to the new filter resetting behaviour? (i.e. separate filters for QC? Or no filters for QC?)
    Thanks,
    Vit

    Hi,
The LR Print Module is working as it was designed to work - the Custom Package option will allow you to perform the actions that you require, but not automatically.
    Why not place your request for added funtionality (i.e. add an option to allow automatic population of the Custom Print Package layout) on the Feature Request forum below;

  • How to get photos into Quick Collection?

    I just installed
Lightroom 3 and I have lost
my circle to put photos into Quick Collection. " Set Quick Collection as Target" is grayed out, but no other collection has a white + indicating that it has been designated as a Target Collection. What can I do to restore my circle for Quick  collection? Thanks for your help.

I don't have my LR3 test laptop in front of me, but since your preferences are probably started from scratch when you loaded LR3, right-click one of the images in the grid and select "view options".  Under the "Cell Icons" options there is a box that should be checked called "Quick Collection Markers".  See if that works.
You might have other options like this that you selected in LR2 that didn't make it over to LR3 automatically.

  • Quick Collections has disappeared!

My Quick Collections has disappeared. I must of deleted it somehow. ( I know stupid me but I'm just getting use to lightroom.) I"m speaking about the module/panel selection itself, not the files. IS there a way to get it back?
    Thanks
    Mooney101

If by disappeared you mean you can't see any photos when you you click on the Quick Collection item in the Library. You probably need to turn off the filtering options. Above the Filmstrip in the middle is the word Filters with three flags to the right. As you click on the flags the program filters based onthe flag you assigned to an image.
If you did remove the photos from the Quick collection, immediatley press the CTRL-Z keys to undo what you just did or Command-Z if you use a MAC.
PS You can't delete the Quick Collection listing in the Library Module.

  • I have and existing collection.  How can I merge images in a Quick Collection into the existing one?

I wish to add images to an existing collection.  Currently I want to add images in a Quick Collection into an already named collection.  I am using LR3.  How do I do that?

Select and then right-click the collection that you want the images added into. Select <Set as Target Collection>. A "+" sign appears besides this collection.
Then select your Quick Collection (or whatever images you want to add to this collection) in the Grid Mode. Click Ctrl/Cmd + A to select all images in this collection. Then press letter "B" on your keyboard. That will add all these images to your target selection.

  • Can't 'Create Saved Book' and continue to use Quick Collection to update book?

I was creating a book in LR4.1 using a Quick Collection. After getting pretty far into my book and being content with my progress, I clicked 'Create Saved Book'. Now I found that I couldn't access the Quick Collection I was using to continue updating my book. I could only access one or the other (the saved book at it's current incomplete state OR the Quick Collection with a blank book layout). What did I do wrong??

The saved book is now a new collection, with a book-icon in front. You add more images by adding them (e.g. via drag and drop) to this new collection in library module.
While selected you switch over to book module and can continue to add pages and fill them with the newly added images.
You might run into another bug though, by which you will have lost your entire layout, but the filmstrip still claims the number how often an image was placed into the lost layout.
If you are working on a book be sure to create a backup of your catalog every time you exit LR as this might be your only way to retrieve at least an older status of your book.
Copy-paste text into text boxes in book module has been reported to trigger the bug rather often.
    Good luck,
    Cornelia

  • ANN: Adobe Lightroom 5 - Quick Start Guide free download

I'm pleased to announce the release of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 – Quick Start Guide, which is a FREE 76 page PDF eBook.  It’s designed to help you get started with Lightroom and understand the basics, while avoiding the most frequent problems.
You can download the PDF at: http://www.lightroomqueen.com/free-downloads/quickstart/lr5/
I meet a lot of people on the forums who have ended up in a tangle because they’ve misunderstood the basics, and much as I’d like to meet you, I’d prefer it’s not because you’ve accidentally deleted all of your photos!

  • A Quick Collection problem...

I was just getting used to LR and mistakenly added all (92,000) images to a Quick Collection.  Now when I try to clear it LR locks solid.  Any work arounds?  Thank You.

I agree, it is almost always something simple. Now if I could just figure out what.

  • Missing Quick Collections and Previous Import tabs

I hope I can explain this - I recently moved from PC to MAC.  I reinstalled lightoom and imported all my images from backup. Everything has been working fine.  I just noticed that I dont have the Prevoius Import and Quick Collections folders showing in the panel.
I have Navigator - Folders (where all my images show up) and Collections
I can save to quick collections and show quick collections from the pull down menu. I have looked in all the setting and view options.  What the heck have I done wrong!!

    Smathia,
What you're missing is the "Catalog" section of the left panel. Right click (ctrl-click for mac) into any other section header and check "Catalog".

  • "Quick collection" of Safari bookmarks?

Often times when I'm browsing I want to keep a few websites available. Maybe I want to read an article but don't have time right at the moment, or maybe I'm doing some research and collecting different sites.
At the moment I just keep all of these sites open in tabs in my main window. But this isn't really a good solution. What would be better is to have a sort of "quick collection" of the sites I want to keep active/open during a certain period of time, so I could reference them quickly, read them, or do whatever I'm planning to do with them - instead of having 20+ tabs cluttering my main browsing window.
Anyone have any ideas for a better solution to this problem? I use Zotero for this when I'm using Firefox, but I'm not aware of any Safari alternative.

    Hi
No simple workaround via 3rd party, however, when I am accumulating sites for later reading, I first create a folder in the Bookmarks Manager>Bookmarks Bar. Then, as I come across a site, I simply drag it from the Address Bar, hovering it over the newly created folder. When the tab darkens, let go of the mouse click. The site now has a bookmark inside that folder.
By contrast, if you have a group of tabs you want to save for later viewing, go to the Bookmarks Menu and select "add bookmark for these xxx tabs". Then, you can navigate to wherever you want that folder to reside.

  • Bug - LR3.2 unable to reorder photos in quick collection / survey view

After editing photos in Photoshop CS3, I'm looking at them in Quick Collection and want to reorder them before export. But it doesn't work. Sometimes I can move a photo one place, but not two, sometimes not at all. I have other RAW photos in Quick Collection. I seem to be able to reorder them amongst themselves, but not move them into the Photoshop .psd photos. I sometimes get an error message "cannot complete assertion", sometimes accompanied by crash.
First time I've seen this. Also Photoshop files are now appearing as the first images in quick collection whereas they used to be grouped next to the RAW file I was editing.
    Similar behaviour in Survey View.

These .psd photos  appear to be corrupted in some way. One didn't show the changes I had made in PS, but then when I reopened in PS the changes reappeared. I was able to reorder them finally in a Collection.

  • Bug? - Quick Collections and Flags

    I have found that "Flags" do no stick in "Quick Collection". The process I am using is;
    1. Add a number of photos to the quick collection.
    2. Select quick collection then go through photos and flag photos as selected or rejected.
    3. Select something else in Library like "All Photographs"
    4. Notice that the photos you just flagged are no longer flagged.
I am running Vista 32bit. I have not tried this with other collections.
Are others having this problem with other OS's?
    David.

I would like to see global flags, ratings, labels, etc. I use iView MediaPro right now, and this is how it works, and it works well (admittedly for me). Basically, I would use a collection to narrow down my images to review a "subset." However, once I am done and return to "All Photographs" and then filter by flag status, for example, all of my work is gone. Granted, I can return to the collection to see the "local" flag status, but what if I want to see flag status for all images in my database, not just for a small collection of images?
