Replace MBP logic board

Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro late 2007 17" model number A1229.
Since a few weeks, my graphics card is bad.
So my Mac doesn't work anymore but it's still a good computer.
I wanna fix my Mac so I can use it again!
Because the graphics card is soldered to the logic board, replacing isn't an option.
So I was wondering to replace the hole logic board.
The problem is, where can I buy it, how much will it cost & in what condition will it be (used, new,..).
If I buy a used one, how can I be sure it will work for a while??
Please give me some sites where I can buy a logic board!

This service is very good and cheap in my eyes.. If you send them your logic board they will send you a fully working one for £89.

HT203254 MBP Logic board failure or GPU failure? Apparently it's simple to test...

I have a 2008 Macbook Pro 15" (2.2Ghz) with NVidia 8600M GT graphics chip. Last month it failed, no longer booting up. The fans start, the LED light comes on, but the keyboard, hard drive and screen fail to come on. After reading article TS2377 I was convinced that the symptoms described match those on my MBP, so I took it to the nearest Apple store. The 'genius' at the 'genius bar' (cringe) took it away then came back and told me that the problem was with the logic board, not the GPU. They diagnosed this by removing the RAM and seeing if the RAM failure beeps sounded. Seeing as there was no sound they diagnosed that the logic board was the source of failure because the RAM test comes before the GPU test in the boot sequence. This test is so simple surely it should be posted under article TS2377???
I must say that I'm completely unconvinced by the diagnosis, but who can argue with a 'genius'? I'd really appreciate it if someone on here could give me a second opinion? Even if they turn out to be right I think I might take out the logic board to see if there's evidence that the GPU has fried the logic board...

There are many comments about the NVIDIA GPU issue and Apple not replacing the GPU. I will say I had good success in getting Apple to replace mine in my Macbook Pro. When my computer suddenly would not fully turn on, I researched the issue to find out the possible reasons and then somewhat dawdled in taking it in. It was 2 weeks past the 4-year GPU warranty window. But I had had problems for some time preceding when it wouldn't fully turn on, such as geo designs appearing on the screen and the screen going dark, and those issues did occur at least a month or more before my warranty ended. I had no idea what those issues meant and simply ignored them until the computer wouldn't fully turn on.
The good folks at The Apple store in Austin initially said no luck; yes it's the GPU but it's two weeks past the warranty. But then they kindly relented because clearly the symptoms I described to them that occurred during the warranty were caused by the faulty GPU. How would I know this was the issue? They replaced the logic board at no cost. I've seen comments here that a Genius said the problem was the logic board, not the GPU, and therefore Apple would not make the repair. I was told by my Genius that the GPU is partof the logic board, and therefore the logic board needed replacing. This was a $526 repair that I was grateful Apple took care of. I would not have made the repair and would have gone out and bought a new non-Apple computer with a warranty.
When I got my computer back, I checked it before I left the Apple store and it was running slow. I ended up paying Apple to replace the hard drive, so ultimately I did pay for an Apple repair. But I'm a happy rather than disappointed Apple customer because of the free GPU repair. Happy, devoted customers has made Apple a great company, and it should be worth it to the company to fix the faulty GPUs that are close to warranty to keep customers and keep them happy.

After replacing the logic board in my Macbook Pro it will no longer connect to the App Store.

I recently had to replace the logic board in my early 11 Macbook Pro (first gen i7). With the release of Yosemite just a few weeks away I am trying to update from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks. I'm afraid if I don't after this update it will become much harder. I always lived by the rule if it ain't broke and for a long time Snow Leopard worked very well for what I needed to do. All my software is current and there are no updates pending. All my Keychain Access System Roots Certificates are good and I have no problems getting into iTunes. I thought it might be something on Apples end but after 36 hours it's still the same problem. When I try to open the App Store I get this:
Any ideas. I don't use the App Store that much but until this I had never had this problem before.

I got my Macbook Pro 17inch (early 2011) back from Apple (they had to replace the logic board) and now my microphone is not working

I got my Macbook Pro 17inch (early 2011) back from Apple (they had to replace the logic board) 3 days ago, I had a terrible experience as the genious who gave me my solid state disk for safekeeping lost my disk's brackets thus I had to wait 2 more hours until they find one after 10 days of waiting for the repair. I noticed some weird sounds, like somehting is moving with the mac 1-2 times, even if I have no mechanical parts other than the fans, but my real issue at the moment is that my microphone is not working. I can see the mic in the System Info however and in Audio Midi Setup. In the Audio Midi Setup I see that the master chanel is turned off and I can't turn in on. Ch 1 and 2 are on full. I also noticed the first seconds after the comp. boots the blue bar goes to the middle in the System Preferences -> Sound -> Input. Any ideas what to do or try? I do not want to go back to the apple store as it is 50 minutes away from here and I need my laptop as a computer science student. Everything else is working perfectly.

You need to call both the store that did the repair and Apple directly, warranty service or Apple care, and report this problem with both of them and get a ticket number of some kind (some kind of verification number) that the unit just came back from major service with this problem and that you want it fixed when you can lose the use of it, which is not right now.
Without doing something like that they could easily say it is damage not covered under the normal warranty.
God knows what the repair center did and did not do to it while it was there.
And depending on when you actually bought it the warranty could run out in the mean time.

Is replacing the logic board going to make my early 2011 Macbook Pro as good as before

I have an early 2011 15" Macbook Pro that just crashed completely days ago. I sent it to the genius bar and was told that I need to replace the logic board and it costs amost $1000. I'm thinking whether changing the logic board actually means that my macbook would be as good as before. I mean I'm not having high expectations but I hope that it would at least lasts for another few years. I've only had this Mac for three years and I'm not sure if its a consistent problem for the early 2011 models regarding the logic board but I sure had mine replaced for at least three times in the first year when I got it. I'm not sure if I should just use that same money to get a brand new laptop, problem is, I'm quite unwilling to switching to a windows system if you understand how it feels.

The first thing I'd look at is your hard drive ... is your free space 10% to 15% or more of the total capacity? If not, that would account for what you're seeing.

When Replacing the Logic Board....

I recently sent my iBook in for a mulittude of repairs, including a problem with the CD R-W/DVD drive not working right. To fix this they replaced the Logic Board, but when doing so the Hard Drive was wiped. I've had my logic board replaced 100s of times on an iBook G3 without that happening. Anyone know why that would have changed this time?

I have a 2009 Mac Air which has been found to have a faultyskin sensor. I was advised that it would be uneconomical to replace the logic board. I would appreciate any comments.

What was the repair cost quoted? Compare amount to the typical selling price of a similar model on eBay. I suspect the repair will cost very close to, if not more, than the selling price. If so consider, selling it for parts and buy a new or refurbished one.

Black screen after they replaced my logic board twice

I have been getting black screens on my mac book about a month or so after i bought it i take it in all the time they say we ran tests nothing is wrong with it then i get it home and i get another black screen finally after a couple months the first time they replaced my logic board / graphics card. It continued to happen so i took it back in they ran tests said they could find nothing wrong i showed them a video of my macbook pro black screening they said they would check the memory they did and said it was loose so they replaced my logic board AGAIN now on the second day of getting my macbook pro back it has black screened AGAIN this was in windows boot camp but when it happens on that side it always happens on the mac side can anyone give me any advice / suggestions on what to do about this please?

Replace the logic board in my iBook with any processor speed?

I need to replace the logic board in my iBook G4, 933 MHz, 14", dual USB. Are the boards with the faster G4 processors interchangeable? I have not opened this machine is some time and the images I have come across in my minimal search this evening seem different for different processors.

Can you replace the keyboard of a MacBook Pro without replacing the logic board?

I had a bit of water damage on my MacBook Pro. I took it to the IT department, and he got the computer to work. The logic board and hard drive were intact. Here's the issues I'm having: the keyboard is next to destroyed. The buttons barely respond, and when they do, it's random letters that type, and they type without me pressing anything. I asked him about replacing the keyboard and what that may cost me. He told me that replacing the keyboard would mean replacing the logic board because they're integrated together, so essentially, that would mean replacing the entire laptop itself. I've been looking on here, and have seen that people offered other uninformed customers to go look for replacement costs for the keyboard, leading me to believe that it is replaceable without replacing the logic board. Can anyone confirm or deny this claim? I would greatly appreciate it. I gave the laptop to the IT department for the weekend. He's going to dry and dry it out over the next few days, so hopefully that works. I don't know what generation macbook this is, but I got it brand new in early October. Look at the illustrated installation directions at same site. You may be able to do it yourself.
Overlooking details: with spillage, things can go wrong that aren't immediately apparent. Just something to keep in mind. No one can tell you if that's the case with yours or not.

MBP Logic Board Failure

I have been using a MacBook Pro since December 2009.
As the trackpad was not working properly and the system was getting hot very quickly, I gave it to the Connectingpoint of Indianapolis for repair.
They have diagnosed of Logic Board failure and asks for $ 750 for replacement of Logic Board.
First I want to know why LB fails.
Then, when it fails what could be done cost effective.

There are literally thousands of components on a modern logic board. They're actually quiet an engineering feat... especially in the modern tightly packed laptop form. I'll look at those and just scratch my head at the idea of someone figuring that out or actually manufacturing it. Anyway... any number of those components can fail over time even with just normal use (hence a warranty). Environment and how the machine is handled can also be a factor. If the logic board fails, there's not really an option other than getting a new one. I guess you might be able to track down a repair place that will repair them at a component level, but I don't really know of any off hand. If you're contacting a place in Indianapolis, I'd imagine you're in the U.S. Why not let Apple take a look at it?

Should I spend $960 to replace the logic board of a 5 year old iMac?

my 5year old iMac cannot power on after a power shut down, and the technician of apple service told me that they checked everything and it's the logic board that needs replacement which will cost $960 ...
Should I proceed to fixed it in this rate? or just leave it and look forward ...?
What's the typical life space of an iMac? Can 5 years be regarded as good enough?

I decided not to replace the logic board.
However, I don't know what to do with the hard drive taken out from the broken iMac which I assume is in good condition. I have another post here to ask help on how to retrieve data from this hard drive although I know the login password for both the OS X and Windows7 installed on that drive ...

Do you think Apple should reward your clumsiness or lack of caution by giving you a logic board for free, or at cost? Come to think of it, shouldn't they just give you a free new computer, and be grateful to you for taking it off their hands?

It is now the end of September and I have been unable to use my Power Mac since early August/Late July.
to recap: I replaced my logic board, but then the machine wouldn't turn on. The power button wouldn't stay illuminated and the screen remained blank but I could hear the whirring of fans and maybe drives.
I brought the tower to the Genius bar where they opened it up and promptly told me my CPU was fried.
Fortunately it was still under warrantee And OWC said send it on back and we'll see what we can do.
Turns out the Newer Technologies 2.0 ghz CPU has been discontinued. The folks at OWC were trying to find out if they could get it rebuilt or just what they could offer me to honor the warrntee on a dicontinued item.
So we agreed to a dual 1.6 CPU that I received in the mail Tuesday and installed last night.
Unfortunately the same thing happened. I hear it try to start but there's no chime and the on/off button only remains illuminated as long as I hold it in.
Could it be a bad logic board?
because the CPU is an aftermarket product, it comes with firmware to be installed. When I replaced the logic board, did it maybe not recognize the CPU? (I'm grabbing at straws here.)
I will probably bring it in to the Genius bar again and have them look at it, but I just thought I would try here first in case anyone might recognize the symptoms.

the heatsink came out first, and then the card with the processor.
The processor chip and card are one assembly called a daughter card.
I just don't know how to go about re-installing it. Is there a temporary fix short of solder?
It's not solder.
The OEM CPU and heat sink have thermal tape that is hard to break when cold.
When hot, the heat sink is easily removed.
Simply reinstall the CPU daughter card, put a bit of thermal compound on the old tape, and fasten the heat sink.
This will work well enough to run the firmware patch.

I couldn't locate a voltmeter that would work at this level.
Any electronics store will have a volt ohm meter; Radioshack, Fry's, etc.
They are inexpensive.

Late 2007 MBP Logic Board Replacement (MA896LL/A)

Hello all,
I have a Late 2007 15" 2.4Ghz MBP (MA896LL/A), and the graphics have just died. I'm considering purchasing a new logic board, and I would like to know where you guys have gone to purchase one. How was your guys' experience with the vendor? How long did your replacement board last? Any suggestions are welcome.
I have done a small amount of research, and I know that there was a 15" 2.6GHz model. The 2.6GHz logic board can fit in my computer, but it looks like it'll be about $100 USD more. Is it worth the upgrade?
