Replace processor in MacBook Pro 13"?

Is there any way that Apple can replace the processor in my MacBook Pro 13"? (summer 2010 model)
also, about how much will it cost?

Apple will not replace the processor, with a newer one, in your older product. The best you can do is to sell your old computer, and buy a new one. The bad news, the day after Apple announces a new product, the value of the older product drop by a third.

I recently had to replace my 2009 Macbook Pro's hard drive.  I had the apple store upgrade the OS to Mountain Lion while it was in being repaired.  I want to restore all of my old data and files.  If I perform a restore from Time Machine, with a date prior to having the hard drive replaced, will it revert back to the old OS?

No, it won't revert to the prior OS X but you you may have third party apps installed that were compatible with Lion that may not be compatible with Mountain Lion.

  • How to upgrade Core 2 Duo to I5 processor in MacBook Pro 13.3 inch?

I’ve MacBook Pro laptop purchased December 2010 so I need to be upgrade I5 instead of Core 2 Duo so please suggest me any possible way to upgrade.
    Thanks in Advance.

The best suggestion I can give you is sell the old one and purchase a new.
The processors are soldered into laptops hence they can not be replaced.
Can you please explain to why you think you need to do this?

  • How big a internal hard drive can I replace in my macbook pro 160/sd. I had a 750 in but it died. Can I put a 1TB?

I have a MacBook Pro 13.3 inch from 2010. It came with 160/SD. I replaced it 3 years ago with a 750GB Seagate which just died per Apple genius. BUt, need to replace it now. Can I replace with a 1TB or only another 750GB?

it will hold even a 12.5mm thick 1.5TB HD
most 1TB drives are 9.5mm thick
It will NOT however hold a 15.2mm HD.
      Typical bare 2.5" hard drives. 7mm left (250-500gig), 9.5mm right (500gig-1TB), and 15.2mm 4 platter drive at back (2TB)

I purchased - downloaded and installed Lightroom 5 on my old Macbook Pro in June, 2014.  I have since replaced that computer with a new Macbook Pro.  I uninstalled Lightroom from that computer.  I would like to download Lightroom 5 onto my new computer, but none of the codes I have are working.  How can I download it without having to re-purchase it?

  • Which new Macbook to replace my 2008 Macbook Pro?

I am about to buy a new replacement for my 5 year old 15" Macbook Pro which I have sworn by, but is slowly letting go.
I would like someones opinion: should I replace it with the new 13 inch Macbook Air, or 13 inch Macbook Pro?
I would use it mostly for day to day work and fun, but also professionally for basic Photoshopping, Webdesign, and less frequently heavier programs such as AutoCAD, Sketchup and rendering software, as well as Final Cut.
I dont mind having the fastest and best of all to do this, but the system should be capable of running these apps smoothly.
My current system does fine, so will use it as a reference point with the following specs:
15" Macbook Pro Spring 2008 (yes, neither my keyboard nor trackpad work = lots of cables!)
    Mac Os 10.5.8
2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    6 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
Thanks so much for advice, it would be greatly appreciated!

I would recommend a 15" MBP for your needs.
Although the your applications may run adequately on the 13" MBA or 13" MBP, the lack of dedicated video GPU and dual-core vs quad-core may limit the useable life of your next MacBook.

  • Replacing HD on MacBook Pro

I own a MacBook Pro with a 250 GB 5400 RPM HD. Am I able to replace it with a HGST Travelstar 7K1000 2.5-Inch 1TB 7200 RPM SATA III 32MB Cache Internal Hard Drive 0J22423?  I don't know a whole lot on replacing hard drives and I didn't know if I needed to stay with a 1TB 5400 RPM vs. 1TB 7200 RPM. If I am replacing my HD I want to put in the best that I can. Thank you, I am hoping someone who is more knowledgable about this will help me out ! Thanks everyone :)

I have five of the HGST Travelstar 7K1000's that I use for cloning my internal SSD. They are fine drives.
Here's a video about how to install the drive in your model -> http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/macbookpro_13_unibody_mid10_hd/.
Do you have backups so that you can restore your current data onto the new drive? If not, I would recommend buying a USB enclosure (also available at OWC) and put your new drive in the enclosure. Then use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone your old drive to your new. Then install the new drive in your machine and boot from it.
A piece of cake. Easy as pie.

  • Does Apple retailers offer service to upgrade processors for Macbook pro?

For instance, my macbook pro is running on an i5 processor and im looking to upgrade to i7. Does apple offer service to upgrade for you ? I'm just curious, I'm also wondering if people had even upgrade their processors themselves.

The processor in a MacBook Pro is soldered to the main board and is not replaceable.

  • Replace keyboard for Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I need a new keyboard for my Macbook Pro 15" with back lighting. It works fine, but I dropped my cigarette and it burned the "esc" key. Again the esc key works, but I have to push it hard, so I think I think that I need to replace the keyboard.
Is this something that can be fixed if I go to the Apple Store, or if not what are my options?
    Thanks,
    Johnny

    Hi my ginger,
    I found a keyboard on E-Bay:

This looks like it will fix my problem. Do you know if this is the right one? here is a image of my system - https://www.dropbox.com/s/if0xnx0u3suruj9/Screen%20Shot%202015-02-05%20at%204.26 .03%20PM.png?dl=0
Well Hopefully I can get somebody at the Apple store to replace it.
    Thanks!

  • Replaced HDD, now MacBook Pro won't power on.

Just bought a new HDD, Seagate Momentus 750Gb (link below). Installed it in my MacBook Pro, replacing the old 160Gb drive (also a Seagate Momentus, older version though) and when I tried to boot my laptop back up it won't even power on. I don't hear anything starting up, and the status light on the front doesn't turn on either. Putting the old drive back in and booting up it works perfectly fine, just like it did before swapping drives. The drive is supposed to be compatible with my laptop (MacBook Pro 3,1 Late 2007 15"). The drive is not partitioned or formatted, but this should not affect the laptop from powering up. I have no other computer to try the drive in to see if it is DOA but even if it were it again should not affect the laptop from powering up. Any advice on what could be causing the problem or something that I may have overlooked would be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Chris

    Hi c,
Your options, as I see them:
    1. Contact Seagate tech/warranty support and see what they have to say.
    2. Get an external enclosure to try the HD in.
    3. Find another MBP to try the HD in.

  • New Processor in MacBook Pro

What is the difference between the processor that comes in the new MacBook Pro (2.66....) and the procssor in my 2008 Macbook (2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo)?

In reply to rkaufmann87, the i7 processor in the Macbook pro is a duo core process with hyper threading, not a quad core i7 like you find in the desktop mac.
    Please see here:
    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=43560
The Macbook pro i7 is still very fast compared to the old Duo core. Mainly due to Hyper threading, Turbo boost and onboard memory control. There are lots of comparisons between the two on the web as well.
However, there is only a small amount of performance difference between the i5 and i7 in the macbook pro range, so you pay for which one suits you best.
May I suggest that you only upgrade to 6Gb of RAM first and see it that is sufficient for you need. As there are hardly any price difference if you but 1 or 2 4Gb stick. You can always buy another stick later on for the same or cheaper price if you needed.
The money saved can go towards a SSD hard drive. you will see much more improvement when you pair up a 6Gb RAM with SSD hard drive than 8Gb memory with the fastest mechanical hard drive you can buy.
Also if you do run out of memory with 6Gb system, you will not notice any performance drop if you have a SSD because the hard driver act like addition RAM in that situation. So if you have SSD the read and write speed can be unto 100 times faster the any mechanical hard drive.
Just some suggestions for you to think over.
P.S. +1 to Apple Care for a piece of mind.
