  • Shuffle randomly dead, 1 week later, and no refund???

Hi, I have a unique problem. Well, not entirely unique. My shuffle has worked fine, until one day I went to listen and it made no sound. Playing with it a little I noticed a red light, I put it in the usb port of someone else's computer to charge and tried again for a while. Nothing. Later at home I plugged it in and my computer no longer recognizes it, itunes I mean. So I updated itunes and tried, nothing, so I deleted all my ipod software and now I'm reinstalling it and cannot proceed because it does not recognzie my ipod. I leave it in and it says it needs to be formatted? So I clicked format and it does nothing and waits for the ipod, if I start the process over it simply looks and looks for the ipod, "a process that should take up to one minute", for hours and hours.
I am at the end of my rope because even though I bought the product brand new, I did it through an ebay supplier so I am guessing that through some sort of loophole I get no warranty or anything. The tragedy is that I bought this a couple of weeks ago, and have been using it for only one week. And I saved up quite a long time to buy it. Because of this tragedy I will be forced to discourage all of my friends from buying apple products in the future.
Unless hopefully there is something I have not tried than can save my ipod.

Because of this tragedy maybe you should tell your friends not to buy from ebay... If you had bought it from a regular, reputable store you would have been able to return it for a refund.
Did your shuffle come in its original, untampered packaging? If so, it's probably still under warranty. You can call the number in the manual to talk to Apple Support to return it and they'll send you a replacement.
Or use this form to send in your shuffle for a replacement:
    http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle/
Before you go down that route, I would first encourage you to download the latest updater (newer than what was on the CD) and "restore" your shuffle. This solves most problems. The instructions are here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300701
(Make sure you click "restore" not just "update")

  • Replacement iPod FREEZES at least once a day!!!

I got my first MP3 player in 2001 , it was an 128MB RCA lyra , and have been collecting them ever since. When I got my iPod Touch (My 15th mp3 player) I was completely amazed at how futuristic, sleek and sexy the Touch was. It was way WAY better than any player I have ever owned before and my second iPod. I have never been happier with an MP3 player purchase at that point, until now......
About six weeks after I got my Touch the left audio channel started cutting out. So I contacted Apple and they sent me a package to send the Touch back to them in. Very quickly they identified the problem and sent out a different refurbished Touch to me on Friday January 11th. I was very happy with the service I received at this point.
SO I got home that night and loaded my new iPod and left it hooked up to my PC overnight to charge. Got up the next morning, the battery is fully charged and ready to go so I unhooked it from my PC and watched a Nickelback music video and then turned it off and set it on the breadbox in my Kitchen. About 2 hours later I go to use it and the screen is just black and it will not respond to any button presses or touching. It took me about half an hour to figure out holding the home and power button until it resets was my only option, and when it rebooted the battery was in the RED!
I really REALLY hoped this was just some fluke and it would not happen again , but it happened again later that day and again later in the week.I attempted the 5 r's REPEATEDLY with no positive results , SO I contacted APPLE again with this new problem , so they sent me another box to return it in. By the time I requested service this had happened 5 times and by the time DHL picked up the pachage it had happened 8 total times.
Apple receives my replacement Touch and determines that there is nothing wrong with it and that it meets Apple guidelines for quality standards , so they send the same iPod back to me overnight. I get it back the day before yesterday and reload my stuff onto it and tried to listen to it and it has FROZEN 3 more times since then.
Iunderstand if this is something they just DO like the Zunes there there is nothing we can do , BUT the first iPod touch I bought , the one they replaced, had never done this , not even once , in over 2 months before they replaced itfor the audio problem. I have requested service AGAIN last night , but I am sure they will just Reformat it , looks for signs of abuse and say "NAhh theres nothing wrong with it, send it back." I fthey actually took the time to listen to it for a day they would find the problem no doubt.
I don't know what to do, they cant "find" anything wrong with it, although I do question how much time they really invest into looking, so they won't repair of replace it and I refuse to use it like this because I know it can be better than this. I paid FULL retail , why can't I get FULL service warranty???
What am I supposed to do now? The only support Option I have is to request service over and OVER again until they finally do something about it.
Thanks For any Advice you have guys,
    -Cody

  • I have not been able to download previous purchases since the new update.  I keep getting a message that says this computer is associated with an APPLEID and that I can download previous purchases again in 82 days with a different ID??  I only have ONE ID

I keep getting a message that says my computer is associated with an APPLE ID??  That I can download previous purchases again in 82 days with a different ID? I don't understand why it wont allow me to download previous purchases?? I never had this problem before the 10.5 update.  I have emailed their help panel numerious times and they never do anything that remedies the problem??  I only have one computer and one ID I just dont understand what the problem is. I use a 3G connection to download music and sometimes the songs are not completely downloaded too and when I cant redownload them its like a waste of money.. I am so discouraged!!! Has any of you had this problem or know what I can do to fix this problem?? Thanks!!!

    Hi Bander Bunny!
I have a couple of articles that should be able to help you troubleshoot this issue a little further. You may want to try uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes first. This has to be done in a specific manner, and this article can help you do that:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Another option is that you may want to try syncing your iPod nano manually. Here's is an article that pertains to manually managing the content of your iPod nano:
Managing content manually on iPhone, iPad, and iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1535
It's also possible that this issue resides with your iPod nano. Here is a website that will help you troubleshoot the iPod nano:

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

As I wrote Apple will diagnose an Apple product even if it is out of warranty for free. That should be your first step to find out if the problem is the battery or something else.
Once you have Apple telling you a 7 month old battery is defective (if that turns out to be the case)  then it becomes a game of horse trading. You'll need to speak to the tech and when he tells you there is nothing he can do you will need to speak to the tech manager and when she says most likely there is nothing they can do you go to the store manager, etc.  It is unlikely (though possible) that they will give in easily you need to be firm, polite and let on that you're willing to accept a partial reimbursement.
So again the first step is to find out what is wrong.
    good luck

  • I have the ipad3,and I plug my charger in to charge my ipad and it comes up with the charging battery sign charges for a few minuets and then the white apple sign loads up into the screen then my ipad goes dead again,I hope someone can help:)

I have an ipad 3, when I plug my charger in the ipad comes up with the sign to say it is charging and then the apple sign loads up as if the ipad is about to come on,but then the ipad just goes dead again,I've tried holding both buttons down and I have also tried charging it over night but still nothing is working.
    I hope someone could help:)

When you say you tried holding both buttons, did you mean you held both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appeared, ignoring the red slider if that appears?  If so, exactly what happens?
You may need to take the iPad and charger to an Apple store genius bar to be tested by the techicians.

  • Why does my IPod shuffle stop after a few hours playing on shuffle when it should go for days?

Why does my IPod stop playing after a few hours on shuffle when it should play for days?

A few possibilities...  (Each numbered item is a separate thing to check or try.)
    (1) What does the shuffle's light do when you connect it to USB?
    (2) If the docking cable plug is not fully inserted, it may not have a good connection for charging.  Make sure the docking cable plug is fully inserted into the shuffle's headphones jack, as shown in this document
iPod shuffle (4th generation): Not seen in iTunes
    (3) If there are other USB devices connected to your computer at the same time, try disconnecting other devices (including USB hub) so that the shuffle is the only device connected to a direct USB port, to see if that makes a difference (you can leave standard USB keyboard/mouse connected if used).
    (4) If you have a USB power adapter (such as from an iPhone, iPad, or other device), that plugs into the wall outlet, as a test, connect the shuffle's docking cable to the adapter and connect the shuffle.  Does it change from a power adapter?
    (5) Some newer Windows PCs (if you use Windows and not a Mac) may have a "feature" that shuts off full power to the USB port when a connected storage device is no longer mounted by the system.  An iPod is a storage device, and after syncing, iTunes unmounts the iPod's disk (if you are using automatic syncing).  If Windows shuts off full power to the USB port, the battery cannot charge.  To see if this is the problem, does the iPod appear in iTunes when it is connected, even though the battery is not charging?  If it does, select the iPod in iTunes so that you see its Summary screen.  There is an option (checkbox) there for Enable disk use.  If it's not already checked, check that box and Apply.  Enabling disk use keeps the iPod's disk mounted continuously, so Windows will keep the USB port at full power (and the battery will charge).  If the iPod now charges, there may be a way to disable this "energy saver" feature in Control Panels, so that you can turn OFF Enable disk use.  NOTE:  When Enable disk use is turned ON, you need to Eject the iPod in iTunes before physically disconnecting it.

Is your battery dead or alive?
If the battery is dead, we must find out if it is:
    1. Charger problem
    2. Cable problem
    3. Docking port problem
    4. Wall socket problem

  • Shuffle dead (again)

My ipod shuffle is showing no status lights, battery or otherwise.
I think that I left it on by mistake after a run last night. When I saw the switch in the on (shuffle play) position I thought "Well I better plug it in because the battery is surely drained" When I plugged it in to the usb port to charge nothing happened. No orange light, no green light, nothing.
I opened the ipod update utility to see if running it would help but it doesn't recognize it and neither does iTunes.
This is my second shuffle, the last one stopped working after less than a month of use, so this is quite frustrating. Are these things really this delicate or am I just having extremely bad luck here?
If anyone has any ideas on what I could try to revive this shuffle please let me know. I really don't want to exchange it for another one with Apple because I am not sure that the replacement would last any longer than this one did.

    Roger,
Do you protect the Shuffle with a Sport Case when you run? I suspect the Shuffle is quite vulnerable to perspiration leaking in at the USB or headphone connections.
Regarding your problem -- have you tried turning the Shuffle OFF for five (or so) seconds, and then back ON -- that often brings my Shuffle back from the dead.
    Roger

  • My ipod Shuffle is Dead?

I have a Ipod Shuffle since November 25, it worked very well until yesterday, i dont know what happenned, but it wont turn on, and my computer wont recognise it, only sometimes after plugging it several times it starts charging, but it gets very hot (i dont remember it getting that hot before) if i take it off to listen music it wont turn on again, i already left it a lot of time charging and when i try to turn it on it wont work.
So do you think my ipod is dead and i should go to get a new one? or what should i do?, (i already made the 5Rs and nothing works)

Return it to Apple as it sounds faulty.
It is under warranty and they should replace it.
    Ian

  • My Shuffle is dead.

    Hello
Just under 6 months ago, I bought a lovely new iPod Shuffle. (The first generation of course). We bumped along perfectly together, and I didn't know what I would do without it.
Well, now I know what I would do without it. Because it died. Here's the story: Yesterday, I was fast-forwarding to a certain song, repeatedly pressing the fast-forward button. And suddenly, I hear an extraordinarily loud "POP" in my ears, and the machine starts playing a song that is is most definetly not supposed to be playing.
I turned it off and back on again, and a green light turned on for a few seconds, then off for under a second, then green again. It did that about 5 times, and then played normally. "Fishy," I thought. Then it did the "POP" thing again. It was loud enough to damage my hearing, so I shoved the thing in my pocket and blamed it on the battery being to low or something.
Well, that night I charged it fully. This morning I turned it on, and that very same green light blinked... and turned off... and blinked again.. and turned off... And it would not stop! I pressed every single face button, and nothing happened.
It's definetly not the battery, and it's not the "Green-and-amber-lights-of-death". What on earth should I do? Is my iPod dead permanently?
Thank you for reading this whole thing. I hope you can help me.

That sounds very much like a bad track from ITMS; this is a known problem area and can result in your described symptoms.
The quick fix is to remove that offending track from the Shuffle and, after having done so, the rest should play just fine. If this is a typical case you will continue having problems with that track, although it may very well (and also might not) play perfectly fine in iTunes. You can also expect that other tracks from that same album, if downloaded at the same time, will also have similar problems.
You can, if you like, work through ITMS Support to get that track replaced. If that doesn't suit, you can also go through a 'burn to audio CD and then reimport into iTunes' kind of a sequence. Both of these are described in more detail in other threads in these forums, and there might be fixes in addition to those.

  • Replacement Shuffle Still Not Recognized In Windows Or iTunes

    Hello everyone,
I was having the orange/green light issue and my 512MB shuffle was not recognized in Windows or iTunes 7.0.1. I contacted Apple and they replaced my shuffle - after I attempted all documented fixes and running the Shuffle Reset Utility.
I plugged the replacement in and received the message "xxx iPod shuffle cannot be updated. The required disk cannot be found." I found an article on how to remove some temp and application files. I did that and also ran "checkdisk" on my laptop and that error went away. The problem is now the shuffle is not recognized in iTunes or Windows once again. The shuffle did come up for less than 10 seconds as the "F" drive and then disappeared and could not be relocated.
Here is the real rub for me - I plugged the shuffle into my wife's laptop running iTunes 7.0.1 and it works just fine!! Since my laptop is my primary - this is still a major issue for me.
Does anyone have a fix for this? This has to be a Windows disk or driver issue.
Does anyone have a fix for this type of issue? It is obviously a Windows disk or driver issue.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
    Still no joy, see these.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.
    Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod</font color</a>.
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.
iPod does not appear in iTunes.
Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported.
    Strange iPod behavior.
