Replace SUP1A with SUP2 - Best method to copy configs

I need to replace a couple of SUP1As with SUP2s and could use some advice on the best method to proceed. From what I have read here and elsewhere, it seems the best method is to stage a SUP2 in a spare chassis and apply the configs beforehand. Then, the migration would simply consist of swapping SUPs. I would like to know if this is the best course of action. Also, as to copy configs, would it be preferable to copy the configs to a flash card in my test SUP2 and then just insert that flash card into my new production SUP2. Or, is it better just to use the actual SUP2 I built in the lab. Is there a difference?
Your help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I plan on using a spare chassis, but would really like to know if it is possible to go the flash card route in lieu of tftp. With TFTP I would need an ethernet connection; further, I would be transferring config to bootflash and, thus, have to swap card for card. Is it possible to build SUP2 in lab with new config, copy config to disk0: (flash card) and then just send that flash card to campus site where they can insert into new SUP2 and copy from disk0: to bootflash?
Thanks again!

  • Best method to copy slide audio to new project ?

    Captivate v5.5
I have a project made up of multiple slides.
Each slide has its own audio.
I need to update the project (resize and update slide images) but the audio does not need to be changed.
Rather than record the narration for each slide again, I am planning to copy  the audio of each slide from the old project (export) to the new project (import). Audio of slide 1 of old project gets attached to slide 1 of new project etc.
Any suggestions as to the best way to do this bearing in mind I have multiple slides each with their own audio and I need to ensure I attach the right audio file to the new version of the slide it was copied from.
    Thanks in advance,
    Noel

    Hi Noel,
Can only explain what would be my method in that case. All audio clips will be found in the library, but they have a not very descriptive name. I would identify them and change the name (if they have to go to the same slide number, just put the slide number in it). Then in the new project I would open the old as an external Library (File, import, external library) and drag the audio clips to the proper slides. External libraries are so little known, but I use them all the time (have a set of often used assets in separate project files that I only use as external libraries)

PS just did see the official answer from the staff, but please, rename your clips there as well or you will not be able to identify them. In the original file you can look for the clip in the Library from each slide

  • Best method for copying database

I am building a new production database and was mulling over the 'best' (read: easiest) way to move / copy the database onto the new production server. I have exports and full RMAN backups from the production database. TIA.

    Hi ,
Use the full automated procedure procedure called 'Clone Database' via Enterprise Manager.
Here is the overview of this tool:
Clone Database uses RMAN to duplicate a database from:
-- An open database in ARCHIVELOG mode, or
-- An open database in NOARCHIVELOG mode (restart required), or
-- A saved working directory from previous cloning
Clone Database performs the following operations:
-- Backup each database file and store it in a working directory
-- Transfer each backup file from source to destination host
-- Restore each backup file to existing destination Oracle Home
-- Recover the cloned database with saved archived log files
-- Open the cloned database with resetlogsRegards,

  • Best way to copy files to server via UNIX?

    Hi there!
I need to write a script for my clients to copy files to a server. What is the best method to copy a lot files to a server? I want this all handled through a UNIX tunnel.
    Thank you!

    spraguga wrote:
Sorry about all this as I am very unfamiliar with ssh keys. I was trying to do this in the terminal maybe I should be doing it via ARD. Currently all Clients have ARD access and SSH access active in System Preferences/Sharing. Evey client machine is authenticated with the same admin account that I use with ARD.
So should I be doing the following:
Run this on every Client machines via ARD UNIX command to create the key:
    ssh-keygen -t dsa -f ~/.ssh/id_dsa -N ''
And then run this on every Client machines via ARD UNIX command to update the servers authorized_key file:
    cat ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub | ssh user@host 'cat - >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys'
Is that it, am I missing anything?
I'm not familiar with ARD so I can't comment on that part. I can tell you that there is no need to create the keys on the clients. You can create all the keys for all the clients on a single machine - your machine. Instead of naming them "id_dsa", use something like "~/Documents/client_ssh_keys/client1". Write a script to go through and build them all in one swell foop. Then you can copy them all to the server's authorized_keys file.
You will have to copy the client1 and client1.pub files into .ssh/id_dsa and .ssh/id_dsa.pub on each client machine. It would also be a good idea to update the .ssh/known_hosts file on each client machine with the entry for the server. You can get this from your own known_hosts file. As long as you are on the client, copy your own public key into authorized_keys.
At this point, you can log in to every client machine and do so in a script, without a password. Each client can log in to the server without a password and run scripts.
Also what if the machine is logged in by another Client. Then this will not work, correct? Can I set it up so anyone who is logged into any Client machine can ssh in to the server. Would I just change the id_dsa location to root or top level of the server and client startup volumes?
SSH is an independent communication channel. No one needs to be logged in on any machine.
You can use the "-i" option on SSH to use a specific set of keys for communicating with a server. Sharing keys like that would be a significant security hole. You would definitely want to use a passphrase in that case.

  • Best method to seamlessly swap someone's face in a group photo with their face in another photo?

A band hired me to do a photoshoot of them and it was my first time shooting a band professionally so I was and still am quite nervous about the photos turning out well, especially since they're a well known group and the pictures will be published in a magazine and spread around a lot and attributed to me.  The issue I'm posting here about is that all of the best shots I got of the group are good except for one member who will either be making a weird expression or has their eyes closed.  I took a lot of photos but I didn't really get any where each member of the group looks good in the same photo; they each look good throughout the set of photos, just not all at once in one photo.  What I'd like to do is replace that member's face in the otherwise good photo with her face from another photo from the shoot where her eyes aren't closed or she has a better expression...but I feel like I'm playing with fire by doing this since I really don't want it to be obvious that I photoshopped it in any way, either to the band or anyone who views the photos later on.
I'm decent with Photoshop but I'd still like to know what the best method of doing this would be so that it looks as natural/unaltered as possible.  Any suggestions?
Also, the photos I'd be switching the faces in were mostly shot from the same angle and with the same lighting and exposure but a few were shot from slightly different angles or the exposure is slightly different, which makes it more difficult.  If, for example, due to flash settings the photo I'm trying to paste a face into (let's call it Photo A) is slightly brighter than the photo I'm trying to copy the face from (Photo B), what's the best way to merge/adjust the two so that the brightness levels in Photo A and the layer from Photo B are as similar as possible?
    (I'm using PS CS6)

Ideally, if you have several shots from the same place, with that band member's head in a similar angle, you could do something like this:
    1.  Choose the Polygonal lasso tool.
    2.  Set it to feather a few pixels.
    3.  Select around the facial features in the image with the good face.
    4.  Paste the good face on the otherwise good background and move it into position over the bad face.
    5.  Set it to be partially transparent to help you align it.  Use Edit - Free Transform to rotate or scale it if it's off a little.
    6.  Make it fully opaque, and use Curves, etc. to perfectly match the exposure, if it's off a little.
Clearly you can do this with the mouth, eyes, whole face, etc.

MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi:
Ussually I have to rebuild in AI the company logo (I use to work for industries) to include in FCP edit.
    - If you have CS2, open Photoshop and create a new file using the right preset (i.e. DV PAL) using transparent background. That creates a PSD empty file with all attributes you need (pixels dimensions and aspect ratio) to use later in FCP.
    - Select your work (i.e. the final logo) in the AI canvas and copy it.
    - Paste it in the empty PSD file as "vextor information" (I don't remember right now the exact words!). That way you can resize it in the PSD file without loosing quality.
    - The better ir deciding the size NOW in Photoshop, or create sveral version in different sizes. Yuo'll get better quality id you make the resizings in Photoshop rather that doing a scale in FCP timeline.
    - Once your logo is in the right dimension into the PSD file, save a copy and flatten all layers keeping the transparent background. If you don't need the layers during editing in FCP, you better have all layers flattened.
    - Import that file in FCP.
That's my workflow, but probably you'll find different flavors here!

  • I lost my Hard disk and had to replace it, how can I get another copy of lion OS, P.S. I bought my macbook pro with preinstalled Lion OS

I lost my Hard disk and had to replace it with a new one, how can I get another copy of lion OS, as the guy at the serive center installed 10.6 for me.
P.S. I bought my macbook pro with preinstalled Lion OS

If you have a way to wipe 10.6.8 off, you can then reboot your machine (with no OS) and since your system came preinstalled with Lion, Internet Recovery should occur which will boot to Apple's servers into a Recovery HD for you to redownload and install Lion.
To be safe I would first make a clone of the current installation using Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper!. This way you have a way to recover.

  • Best method for timestamping? (for later use with perl script)

What is the best method that I can use to timestamp events in Linux for later use with perl script?
I am performing some energy measurements.. where I am running several tasks separated by 20 secs in between. Before I start any execution of tasks, I always place initial delay for me to start the script and start the measurement device.
My problem is that I don't know how long is that first delay exactly. So to solve this, I thought I could use date commands to time stamp all tasks.. or at least to timestamp first dela.
Here is example of what I am doing:
    1st delay
    task 1
    20s
    task 2
    20s
    task 3..... etc
What would be the best to use?

    logger.
It posts messages straight to the system log.  You can see the message, in all its glory using tools like journalctl.  You will see the message, the date, time, host name, user name, and the PID of logger when it ran.

  • Best method for keyframing with 3d camera 1 shot....

Hi I have a project I am working on and basically I am finding the key framing a little frustrating because I cant get the camera to do what I want. Ususally I have no problem in FCP but with Motion it doesnt seem as easy. Bascially what I have done is put up 7 of the same clip all in 3d spread down. What I want the camera to do is zoom close to one. Pause while you read what is on the clip then pan and zoom to the next one. The method I am doing is I hit the record button. Start the zoom to the first object then move timeline to where I want the camera to stop the zoom. I hit the record button again..wait a few frames and then hit it again so I can zoom to the next object. What seems to hahppen is the camera just starts moving to the other object and wont pause for those frames. I would like to know the best method for making this possible. Thanks

    hi,
edit them all! Just select them all and choose linear from the control pop up.
if that doesnt work, maybe you could try setting keyframes manually, like you would in FCP. You dont turn on the red button at all, but add keframes for the parameters you want to animate in the Inspector window.
Sometimes I find I have to add two keyframes a frame apart to give that definite stop. This also allows me to play with the timing of the pauses. So set a keyframe where the camera starts to move and one where it stops. Then a frame on set another keyframe without changing the values, then go to the next point you want the camera to move and set another keyframe.... and so on.

  • Best method for networking with ubuntu linux

    Hi,
I'm setting up an ubuntu linux fileserver, and I was wondering what the best method for filesharing with my mac is. I'm currently running osx 10.4.11, though I may be upgrading to 10.5 soon. I'll be running SMB networking for a couple of other computers, but I'd prefer something a bit more robust that can handle file permissions etc.

Mac OS X supports NSF out of the box. Configuration isn't documented.
I recall Apple got rid of net info manager in Leopard, so the configuration will be different. Perhaps more unix like.
Mac OS X support the Unix Network File System (NFS). However, it leaves out
    the GUI.
This page show you how to use NetInfo Manager:
    http://mactechnotes.blogspot.com/2005/09/mac-os-x-as-nfs-server.html#c1168221713 40271068
NFS Manager can both setup NFS shares and connect to NFS shares.
    http://www.bresink.com/osx/NFSManager.html
Once you figure out how NFS Manager configures the NFS shares, you can
use Applications > Utilities > NetInfo Manager to create more shares.
You will either have to coordinate Unix Userid number and Unix Group Id number or use the mapall option on the share.
To find out your Mac OS X userid and group id do:
    applications > utilities > terminal
    ls -ln
    ls -l
    # lists the NFS share on your mac
    showmount -e localhost
#list NFS shares on a remote host
    showmount -e remote-ip-address
Once you see what NFS Manager does, you will be able to use NetInfo Manager to manage a connection. In Mac OS 10.4 you can configure the /etc/exports control file. See man exports for the details. Before that you had to have the data in NetInfo manager. When Mac OS X came out, many common Unix control files were not present. Instead the data had to be in NetInfo manager. Over time Apple has added more and more standard Unix control files.
    ======
You do know about the need to match userids & groupids.
    # display uid and gid
    ls -ln
    sudo find / -user short-user-name -exec ls '-l' {} \;
    # on Mac OS X
you will need to go into NetInfo Manager and select user and find your short-user-name. Change uid and guid.
    #on Linux look in
    /etc/passwd
    /etc/group
    # with care...
    # change 1000:20 to your values for uid:gid
    sudo find / -user short-user-name -exec chown 1000:20 {} \;
The manual for Tenon MachTen UNIX (which Apple checked when doing Mac OS
    X) says that one should crate the file /etc/exports, which will cause
portmap, mountd and nsfd to launch at startup via the /etc/rc file. The
file must not contain any blank lines or comments, and each line has the
    syntax
    directory -option[, option] hostlist
where 'directory is the pathname of the directory that can be exported,
and 'hostlist' is a space separated list of hostnames that can access the
    directory. For example
    /usr -ro foo bar
    /etc
    /Applications
    /User/gladys gladys
The client the uses a command like
    /sbin/mount -t type [-rw] -o [options] server:directory mount_point
where 'type' is 'nfs', 'server' the name of the server, 'directory' the
server directory mounted, and 'mount_point' the client mount point. See
    'man mount' for details.
I haven't tried the above, but it would be nice to know if it works on Mac OS X.
    Hans Aberg
This will give you some hints on NFS. Post back your questions.

  • Can Entity Bean with Home Business Method replace Stateless Session Bean?

Since Entity Bean can have business methods in the Home Interface, can we use Entity Bean with Home Business Methods to replace Stateless Session Bean?
I am assuming we can get better performance by doing this since the overhead of creating Component Object can be avoided as compared to stateless session beans.

Requires-new makes the container start a new transaction. Only use that flag
at the point that you are certain that a NEW transaction should BEGIN. I
suggest you use Required as your default for all methods in the application,
and only change that to anything else when you are certain that you should.

  • [MBP - 2008, 4,1] Best way to replace HDD with SSD

Looking to upgrade my 2008 Macbook pro with a new SDD.
What is the best way to install a SDD while still saving the data from my HDD?  I've heard it's possible to clone the hard drive, place the info on the SDD, and then boot with it.  I've tried my best googling it, but I can't seem to figure out how I would connect my SSD to my computer while the HDD is still installed?  I don't have an external drive with SATA connections.
If I do have to do a clean boot with the SDD (After saving important documents on an external drive), would I need my OSX disks?  It's been a long 4 years with this computer and don't think there is any chance of recovering the OSX boot disks.  Is there a way to download these necessary to do a clean boot?
Thanks for helping a misguided student trying to speed up his laptop!

You have two basic options. First is simply replace the HDD with the SSD. Second is to remove the optical drive, move the HDD to the space where the optical drive was (you need a mounting kit for this) and install the SSD where the HDD was installed.
Visit OWC to see the various options they have that includes the special mounting kit, SSD, and installation tutorials.
If you go with the first option then you will need an external notebook drive enclosure in which to put the HDD when you replace it with the SSD.
As for cloning that is done as follows:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Be sure you prep the SSD properly:
    Drive Preparation
    1.  Boot from your old HDD. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your SSD (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
I would also recommend upgrading your OS to Snow Leopard. You will need at least 1 GB of installed RAM for Snow Leopard.

  • What's the best method for a nav menu with image rollover for all visitors?

    Hi.
    First, thanks for reading this.
What's the best method for a nav menu with image rollovers for all visitors, including PDAs? I've used JavaScript rollovers for years because the majority of my customers' visitors use some version of IE (past 7.0) but I'm building a new site that has to display properly for the widest range of visitors imaginable. (I also know that I need to use a more modern method for everyone and this is my excuse to start).
Finally, using images is critical. I apologize ahead of time to anyone I offend, but I have never seen a nav menu without images that doesn't look just plain terrible.
    Thanks.

If you want the best menus possible for Dreamweaver look no further than Project Seven:
    http://projectseven.com/
They have all kinds of menus and other extensions available for purchase.  Easy to use and they work as advertised.  I personally use Pop Menu Magic and Tab Panel magic myself.  I could go on and on, but I guarantee that if others respond they will echo the same sentiment for Project Seven.

  • HT1229 what is the best method for using a iphoto with an external hard drive for greater capacity?

what is the best method for using a iphoto with an external hard drive for greater capacity?

Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive
