Replace supervisor VS-S720-10G cisco 6509-E

Hi
I have a doubt, I have a switch core 6509-E with two supervisor. One of them has failed. So I requested for a RMA to change the part, but maybe this new supervisor is gonna have another IOS version, But I know that both supervisor has to have the same version to synch. in this case how can I load the version to the new supervisor without shut down the switch

the problem is that We dont have a memory card to copy the IOS. do you know another options?
Go to your nearest electronics shop and get one.
Take note:
Not all CF brand are supported.  So it would be best to buy two or three different brands and return ones that didn't work.
Support size up to 4 Gbps.
Format the CF using the command "format disk0:" before copying anything into it.

    Hello Abubaker,
It crashed due to a parity error.
     Imprecise Data Parity Error
     Imprecise Data Parity Error
Which in other words means, a temporary error in memory. On single occurence adivice is to monitor the supervisor for re-occurence of such failure again. You can monitor it for 24 - 48 hours and if its a hard failure , the likelyhood of issue coming again is more and you need to replace supervisor. If it does not repeat you can consider this as a one time issue and contnue using it.
Hope this helps and please always rate useful posts.

“VSL-capable interfaces are required to create a VSL port channel. The current modules that support the formation of a VSL port channel are the 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplink ports on the Supervisor Engine 720-10G VSS (VS-S720-10G-3C/XL) and the Cisco 8-Port 10 Gigabit Ethernet Switching Module (WS-X6708-10G-3C/XL). I have at the 6500 with vs-s720-10G. the datasheet say 1024 VRFs each populated with up to 700 routes/VRF for MPLS. MPLS in hardware to enable use of layer 3 VPNs and EoMPLS tunneling. Up to 1024 VRFs with a total of up to 256,000 routes per system.
    I'am configurating 70 VRF with 883 routes with VRF-lite.
will it support this routes number ??

With your VRF-lite deployment you described, are you planning to run any dynamic routing protocols, or are all the routes static?  If you are using dynamic routing for these VRF lite instances, I would probably be worried about the number of IGP instances needed.  However, maybe someone else has run a high number of VRF lite / IGP instances like that and could share their experiences.
Another concern with a 70 VRF deployment using VRF-Lite is the operational overhead, especially if you are running end-to-end VRF-lite.  The Path Isolation Design Guide recommends as a rule of thumb no more than 10-15 VRF's when doing end to end VRF lite.

  • Replacing SYNCHRONIZE in Forms 10G

    Hi everyone,
We had removed SYNCHRONIZE from our Forms when we migrated to 10G but now Oracle asks us to have SYNCHRONIZE in our Forms at appropriate places in the code.
Can anyone suggest the best way to replace SYNCHRONIZE in Forms 10G. I mean can I convert the FMBs to FMTs and then do these changes. Some of our Forms are very complex so doing this manually takes a lot of time.
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance !!!

Whenever you use SYNCHRONIZE built-in in WebForms, each execution of this built-in is a full network trip between the Application Server and the Forms Java client.
excessive use of this built-in will overload network traffic, and most of the time this built-in is used in LOOPs and this is excessive.
Oracle strongly recommends not to use this built-in and if you MUST use it use it carefully.

  • LLQ priority issue after upgrading to Sup32 on Cisco 6509

    Hi,
I have 1x Cisco 6509 with Sup2 and MSFC2 and it is running on IOS (c6k222-jk9sv-mz.122-17d.SXB11).
I have following policy map :
    Policy Map VOIP
        Class IPPHONE
          priority percent 75
and the following command on each interface:
    service-policy output VOIP
those configuration are working fine on SUP2 with MSFC2 but last week I tried to upgrade the SUP2 to SUP32 on the switch and upgrade the IOS to the latest version (s3223-adventerprisek9-mz.122-33.SXJ4)
but when I try to put service-policy output VOIP on each physical interface I am getting the following error:
"Priority command is not supported in output direction for this interface"
and when I try to add service-policy output VOIP on a VLAN interface I am getting following error:
MQC features are not supported in output direction for this interface.
Please let me know if I need to change something after upgrading to SUP32.
    Thanks

    Hi
    Hi
Sup32 uses PFC3B for Hardware forwarding and implemenation of features like qos, acl, netflow etc
PFC QoS does not support these policy map class commands:
    •bandwidth
    •priority
    •queue-limit
    •random-detect
    •set qos-group
    •service-policy

  • Cisco 6509 with Reliability 255/255, txload 238/255, rxload 8/255 interface

    Hi there,
I'm having an issue with my Cisco 6509. One of Internet configured as trunk Interface direct with a HP7500 is showing reliability 255/255, txload 238/255, rxload 8/255.
The Issue is that my Cacti Server show me that only 10% of the link is in use but if you look at txload you can see that almost 100% of the bandwidth is in use..
What can I do in order to figure out what's going on with this Interface.  I'm thing about to put wireshark and configure a port monitor in order to capture the packets.
Is anyone has any tip to do a troubleshoot with this issue??

This pretty much tells you your port channel is pretty full.  How many ports in the channel?

  • 6504E Aggregation Switch (VS-C6504E-S720-10G)

    Hi,
I am in the process of understanding the 6504E in terms of technically feasible option as a Provider Class Aggregation Switch. (specifically looking at VS-C6504E-S720-10G, which is bundled option)
This 6504E switch will aggregate our Provider Edge (PE) routers and then connect to Core routers via uplink ports. Multiple PE routers (each via 1G port) would be aggregated to 6504E. The aggregation switch would then connect to core routers via 10G uplink port.
While short listing the aggregation switch, I come across VS-C6504E-S720-10G which has Catalyst Chassis + Fan Tray+Sup720-10G; IP Base ONLY; NO VSS. Though this looks a better choice for provider class switch .But, I am still not clear if this bundle option can support all the below requirements.
    1. Multiple 1Gig/10Gig for Access/Uplink on aggregation - this is supported.
    2. OIR feature for line card , modules, power supply - this is supported.
Not sure if VS-C6504E-S720-10G support all the below mandatory requirement
    3. Traffic from PE will be MPLS labelled or non-MPLS labelled traffic so Aggregation Switch must have capable to look MPLS header ( i.e Lable, MPLS EXP bit) and IP header ( dscp, src SA, dst SA etc) when configured as Layer 2 port facing to PE - Not sure if VS-C6504E-S720-10G can support it.
    4. Aggregation switch should support link aggregation for N*10G uplink to Core router with various load-balancing method like MPLS label based, src-IP, dst-IP, src-dst-IP, hashing of layer 3 and layer 4 info , L2 S-mac & d-mac etc - - Not sure if VS-C6504E-S720-10G can support it.
    5. QOS on L2 switches for strict priority queue, WRR/SRR Queue to support policing and shaping with WRED with miinimum 8 egress queue per port.
    6. QoS classification based on 802.1P, MPLS EXP, IP DSCP on layer 2 ports for MPLS and non MPLS traffic.
    7. Multicast - IGMP V1/V2/V3, IGMP Snooping, PIM snooping.

    Pradeep,
This is a loaded question. I would suggest you get in touch with the system engineer assigned to your company in order for him to run through all these requirements and validate that this piece of equipment meets them all.

  • Regarding LACP commands on Cisco 6509 to connect server

    Hi All ,
We have to connect two servers to cisco 6509 (sup720 with MFFC R7000)  switches and we have to configure LACP on the 6509 to bundle two ports to get 2 Gbps through put.
Each server has four NIC ports ..out of which two ports will be connected to Switch 1 ( active ) and remaning two ports will be connected to switch 2 ( standby).
We are going to use below commands for LACP on both the switches.Apart from below commands do we need to have any other commands to make LACP to work as soon as we connect the servers.
    Switch 1 :
    set channelprotocol lacp 1
    set port lacp-channel 1/1-2 73
set port lacp-channel 1/1-2 mode active
    Set port vlan 10 1/1-2
    set spantree bpdu-guard 1/1-2 enable
    set port lacp-channel 1/9-10 85
set port lacp-channel 1/9-10 mode active
    Set port vlan 10 1/9-10
    set spantree bpdu-guard 6/9-10 enable
On the MFFC we have so many vlans along with vlan 10
    int Vlan 10
    ip address 10.10.10.2 255.255.255.0
    standby 10 ip address 10.10.10.1
    standby 10 timers 1 3
    standby 10 priority 200
same series of port will be used on Switch 2 to connect servers.
    Servers support LACP protocol only.
diagram is enclosed...If any suggetions on this would be appreciated..
    Thanks ,
    M S K

Interesting I thought all sup 720's were non hybrid and used IOS only .  Guess you learn something everyday. Looks like it should work with what you
have as long as the servers are setup with lacp in a active/standby mode.

  • ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock network port has problems with our Cisco 6509 switch

We purchased a ThinkPad USB 3.0 dock for and X1 carbon and the main issue we are having is the network port does not seem to work with our Cisco 6509 switch. I tried updating the firmware on the dock but it still hasn't fixed the issue. I was wondering if anyone else had run into this problem with any other networks out there.

I'm seeing the same issue with a ThinkPad W520.  When I connect my ethernet cable directly to the laptop, my internet speeds are on par with my service provider of 18 Mbps.  When I move that cable to the dock, I will only see 1.5 Mbps.  I have two displays attached to the dock and I'm running Windows 7.  I've updated the dock firmware and have installed the latest system drivers.  Is there anything else to try?

  • Ciscoview Cisco 6509 VSS power supply LED indicators incorrect

    Hello all
i am experiencing the following problem.
In the Ciscoview, the LED indicators of the power supply of Cisco 6509 VSS are represented incorrectly. All power inputs and fans are okay actually. however, in the ciscoview, there is only 1 green "INPUT OKAY" for each power supply. And "FAN OKAY" LEDS are off on Active chassis.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Check the PS at the back, is there a light?  If there's no light, then you need to RMA the PS as it could be faulty.
If there's a light on the PS, then you need to RMA the switch.

  • Port mirroring on cisco 6509

We have cisco 6509,Cisco IOS Software, s72033_rp Software (s72033_rp-ADVENTERPRISEK9_WAN-M), Version 12.2(33)SXI2a, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2).
I want to know, at a time how many interfaces can be configured as a source interface and at a time how many interfaces can be configured as a destination interface?

The 9100EM does not support port mirroring.
You might want to find a hub and use that to mirror the traffic.
    http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=ethernet+hub&_sacat=See-All-Categories
Be careful though, many of those listed claim to be hubs are not and are in fact switches.

  • Configuring HSRP in Cisco 6509

We have 2 nos Cisco 6509 switches with MSFC II . VLAN's are configured in both the 6509's and now we need to have the HSRP for redudancy.

    Dear Anand,
It is really helpfull info for me also.I am having same set up But my one 6509 again connect to tw0 3725 routers where i am using HSRP.Please fine set up below
    Customer end Router --- > Ethernet1------> 6509-A ---->3725 Router-1 (Standby 3725 Rou-2 )---> Remote Location
    Customer end Router --- > Ethernet2------> 6509-A ---->3725 Router-1 (Standby 3725 Rou-2 ) ---> Remote Location
My Problem is that i need full redundancy between customer router and 3725 routers also.
If i cross connect 3725 Routers on both 6509 then how existing HSRP of 3725 will work.
    TIA
